Sandra Lynn Beck Hoff
Sandra Lynn Beck Hoff, 54, died Friday, Sept. 29, 2000, at her home in Bridgeport, Ohio. Born Sept. 30, 1945, in Somerset, Pa., she was the daughter of Roy D. and Roberta K. (Murphy) Beck. Mrs. Hoff was a member of First United Methodist Church in Bridgeport. In addition to her parents, who live in Kent, survivors include her husband, the Rev. James A. Hoff; sons, Roy Allen (Patricia) of Wheeling, W.Va., and Joseph Paul (Lynn) of Weirton, W.Va.; four grandchildren; brother, Larry Lee (Jeanne) Beck of Kent; and sister, Connie Sue Adams of Akron. A grandson, Jacob Andrew Hoff, died previously. Calling hours will be held from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at Wilson Funeral Home, 920 National Road, Brookside. Mary E. "Peg" Schnittke
Mary E. "Peg" Schnittke, 81, of East School Street, Kent, died Wednesday, Sept. 27, 2000, at Cuyahoga Falls General Hospital.Born Feb. 26, 1919 in Youngstown, she was the daughter of James W. and Mary Edna (Stewart) Morgan. Mrs. Schnittke was a reading specialist with the Strongsville school district for 21 years. Survivors include her sons, James M. of Kent and Glenn A. of Nashville, Tenn.; daughters, Susan L. Schnittke of Strongsville and Gayle S. Brun of Kent; eight grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and sisters, Janice Garver of Kent and Sarah Thrall of Bethesda, Md. Her husband, Glenn A., died previously. There will be no calling hours. Services will be held at the convenience of the family. Arrangements are being handled by Bissler & Sons Funeral Home in Kent. Pauline Mary Mlynar
Pauline Mary Mlynar, 76, of North Benton and formerly of Rootstown, died Sunday, Oct. 1, 2000, following a long illness. Born Nov. 12, 1923 in Akron, she was the daughter of John and Pauline (Kusnir) Rabbets. She had lived in the North Benton area for the past six years. Prior to that she had lived in Akron and Rootstown. Survivors include sons, Michael of British Columbia, Canada, David of Rootstown and Alan of Englewood, Colo.; daughter Judy (Denny) Hall of Edinburg; five grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and a brother, John (Faye) Rabbets of Alabama. Her husband, Michael, died in 1975. A sister, Agnes Pribich, also died previously. Graveside services will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday at Grandview Memorial Park in Ravenna. Burial will be in Grandview Memorial Park. Arrangements were handled by Wood-Kortright Funeral Home, Ravenna Chapel.

Nick A.J. Toumazos
Nick A.J. Toumazos, 74, of Newton Falls, died Sunday, Oct. 1, 2000, at Forum Health Trumbull Memorial Hospital in Warren. Born May 3, 1926 in Warren, he was a son of James and Angele (Cussey) Toumazos. Mr. Toumazos was a carpenter. He retired from M&M Construction, Warren. He was a member of Carpenters Local Union No. 171 of Youngstown. A U.S. Army veteran, he served in Italy during World War II. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, being outdoors with nature, gardening and traveling in the U.S. and overseas. Survivors include his wife, Yolande (Keberle); son Dimitri of Florida; stepsons, Larry of Ohio and Jim of Florida; five grandchildren; brother, Roger of Ohio; and sister, Jeannette Tetonis of Ohio. His brothers, Albert and Steve, died previously. Calling hours will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. today and from 10:30 a.m. until services at 11:30 a.m. Wednesday at Borowski Memorial Home in Newton Falls, with the Rev. Dennis Michelis officiating. Burial will be in Pine Knoll Cemetery.

Robert G. Davis
Robert G. Davis, 72, died Sunday, Oct. 1, 2000 in Kent. Born in North Lima, he was the son of Daniel and Maude Davis. He graduated from North Lima High School in 1947 and earned a bachelor's degree in 1951 from Ohio State University. Mr. Davis retired from Firestone Tire & Rubber Co. in 1980 after 28 years of service. He worked six years as methods and procedures analyst until 1978, when he became senior accountant of Firestone's new products development department. He previously worked as a junior public accountant at Ernst and Ernst in Youngstown. In 1952, he went to work for Firestone Steel Products of Akron and served in various accounting capacities. He was a member of Akron Baptist Temple. Survivors include his wife, Barbara (Reeves) of Kent; daughter Laurie Ann of Hartville; stepdaughter Deborah Lewis of Rittman; stepson, Joe Lewis (Jackie); and three step-grandchildren. His parents and brother, William, died previously. Calling hours will be held from 10 a.m. to noon and 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at the Redmon Funeral Home, S.R. 91, Stow, where services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, with the Rev. Patricia M. Clark
GARRETTSVILLE - Patricia M. Clark, 68, died Sunday, Oct. 1, 2000, at Semper Care Hospital in Akron following a long illness. Born April 9, 1932, in Hiram, she was the daughter of James and Pearl (Seger) Tate. Mrs. Clark was a lifelong resident of the Hiram-Garrettsville area. She was an avid NASCAR, Indians and Browns fan. Survivors include her husband, Donald, whom she married Aug. 27, 1950; sons, Dean of Hendersonville, Tenn. and Robert (Pamela) of Streetsboro; daughter, Christine Smith of Streetsboro; one grandchild; mother, Pearl Tate of West Palm Beach, Fla.; and cousins, including Diane (Paul) Gano of Newton Falls and Judy (Bill) Ruffing of Garrettsville. Betty Jane Wagoner
Former Kent resident Betty Jane Wagoner, 82, of Georgetown, Texas, died Friday, Sept. 29, 2000. Born Nov. 7, 1918, she was the daughter of Edward and Ada Dush of Newark, Ohio. She graduated from Newark High School in 1935 and from Newark Business College in 1936. She moved to Kent after graduation and married Kent native William J. Wagoner, son of Merle E. and Alva Wagoner, in 1943. The couple lived in Kent for about 10 years before moving to Chambersburg, Pa. They moved to Houston in 1961, where Mr. Wagoner worked for NASA and contributed to the effort to put a man on the moon. They retired to Chambersburg in 1980 and returned to Texas in 1966. Mrs. Wagoner was a homemaker. Survivors include her husband, Bill; and daughter, Marsha Wagoner McGuire. Graveside services will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday in Wilson Cemetery outside Newark. Arrangements were made by Criss-Kirkpatrick Funeral Home in Newark.

Elizabeth Louise Potter
GARRETTSVILLE - Elizabeth Louise Potter, 64, died Sunday, Oct. 1, 2000, at Akron City Hospital, Akron, following a brief illness. Born April 3, 1936 in Rapid City, S.D., she was a daughter of George and Alma (Dohrman) Potthoff. She lived in Nelson for 40 years before moving to Garrettsville four years ago. Mrs. Potter was the administrative assistant of the Art Department at Hiram College, and was the proprietor of Potter's Photography for five years. She enjoyed antiques, painting, arts and crafts and sewing. She also enjoyed crossword puzzles and spending time with family, especially her grandchildren. Survivors include her husband, Forrest, whom she married July 12, 1956; son, Victor of Richmond, Va.; daughters, Cindy Termini of Valley View, Mary Potter of Atlanta, Ga., Helen Ward of Dayton and Eileen Hoffman of Lakewood; seven grandchildren; brothers, Kenneth of Jersey City, N.J., Howard, Don, Frank and Marvin, all of Rapid City, S.D.; and sisters, Gladys Olson of Grand Junction, Colo., and Fern Cobler of Rapid City, S.D. Charles J. Sprague
BRIMFIELD - Charles J. Sprague, 85, of Tallmadge Road, died Monday, Oct. 2, 2000 at Country Place Nursing Home in Cuyahoga Falls. Born Sept. 12, 1915 in Brimfield, he was the son of Charles J. and Christina (Herberich) Sprague. He was a life resident of Brimfield. Mr. Sprague was the Brimfield Township road surperintendent for 10 years. He was affiliated with the Brimfield Volunteer Fire Department for 20 years, was the Brimfield Township clerk for 20 years and a township trustee forfour years. He retired in 1984. Survivors include his sons, Charles J. "Chick" (Joanne), Roy (Bea), and Bob, all of Brimfield; daughters Cathy Steele of Ravenna and Christina Heldreth of Mogadore; 13 grandchildren; 22 great- grandchildren; and sister, Esther Foster of Spencer, Ohio. His wife, Betty Ann (Ransford) died in 1986. Calling hours will be held from 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at Bissler & Sons Funeral Home in Kent, where services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, with the Rev. Dr. Daniel Griggs officiating. William J. Murray Sr.
William J. Murray Sr., 68, of Kent died Thursday, Nov. 2, 2000, at his home following a long illness. Born May 8, 1932 in Scranton, Pa., he lived most of his life in the Kent area. Mr. Murray retired from Viskase in Aurora. He was a U.S. Army veteran, having served in the Korean War. Survivors include his wife of 18 years, Rosella (Saunders); son, William J. Jr., of Streetsboro; daughters, Terry (Ray) Hartwig of Shalersville and Lori (Richard) Mobley of Morgantown, W.Va.; four grandchildren; and a sister, Frances (John) Benzeleski of Scranton, Pa. His first wife, Shirley, died in 1981. There will be no services. Arrangements were made by the Wood-Kortright Funeral Home, Kent Chapel. Memorials may be made to the American Heart Association.

Michael L. Goodrich
FREEDOM - Michael Lee Goodrich, 2, died Sunday, Oct. 29, 2000, at the Hattie Larlham Foundation in Shalersville Township. Born July 24, 1998 in Cleveland, he was the son of Michael and Bernice (Herr) Goodrich. Survivors include his parents; sisters, Angela and Ashley, both at home; two half-sisters, Jessica and Shannon of Windham; and grandparents, Anne Herr of Hiram Rapids and Luetta Goodrich of Rootstown. His brother, Matthew, and grandparents, Howard Herr and Howard Goodrich, died previously. Graveside services were held at Maple Grove Cemetery in Ravenna, with the Rev. Phillip Miller officiating. Alberta Bovastro
Alberta Bovastro, 85, mother of two Ravenna residents, died Sunday, Nov. 5, 2000 in Pascagoula, Miss. Mrs. Bovastro was born July 28, 1915 in New Orleans, Louisiana. She was a frequent visitor to Ravenna for the past 40 years. Survivors include Ruth (Preston) Burroughs and Paulette Luttrell, both of Ravenna; and 10 grandchildren in the Ravenna area. Funeral will be Saturday at St. Peter the Apostle Catholic Church in Pascagoula.

Alexander Henry Munro Jr.
Alexander Henry Munro Jr., 74, of Sun City Center, Fla., and formerly employed in Windham, died of cancer Friday, Nov. 3, 2000, at Manatee Memorial Hospital in Bradenton, Fla. Born in Clearfield, Pa., he was the son of Alexander H. and Margaret Munro. He attended Clearfield Public Schools, then served in the U.S. Navy during World War II aboard the USS Bremerton. Following graduation from Penn State, class of 1950, he was a production coordinator for Dresser Industries in Windham. An avid golfer, he was a member of the Penn State Golf Team and a tournament player throughout Central Pennsylvania, Northeastern Ohio, South Carolina and Florida. He resided in Sun City Center for 13 years. Survivors include his wife of 52 years, Mary Louise; a son, Alexander H. III; daughter-in-law Judith; three grandchildren; sister, Mariel (Robert) Penoyer of Dallastown, Pa. A son, Jeffrey Scott Munro died previously. Services will be held Wednesday with family committal service at 10 a.m. at the Chapel of Peace in Mansion Memorial Park, Ellenton, Fla. Harry W. Smith
Harry W. Smith, 77, of Braceville, died Wednesday, Nov. 1, 2000, at Herman Hospital Medical Center in Houston, Texas, as a result of injuries from an automobile accident. Born Oct. 21, 1923, in Zanesville, he was the son of Warren M. and Grace A. (Brunson) Smith. Mr. Smith was a veteran of the U.S. Marine Corps, serving in World War II and Korea. Mr. Smith retired from Container Corporation of America in 1985. He was a member of the Windham united Methodist Church, where he was very active. He was a member of the Cross Trailer Square Dance Club. He also was a wood carver and an avid golfer. Survivors include his wife, Rosemary J. (Buder), whom he married June 26, 1948; sons, Gary W. of Salt Lake City, Utah, and Steven W. of Braceville; daughters, Mrs. Terry (Bonnie) Nye of Salem, Ohio and Mrs. Joseph (Sandra) Kovacs of Braceville; five grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; sisters, Mary White of Clearwater, Fla., and Mrs. Davie (Mildren) Kirby of Manteo, N.C. Calling hours will be held from 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday at the James Funeral Home, 8 E. Broad St., Newton Falls. Funeral services will be held at the Windham United Methodist Church at 11 a.m. Friday. Burial will be at Braceville Cemetery.

Anna Mareta Rathburn
Anna Mareta Rathburn, 77, died Monday at the Longmeadow Care Center of Ravenna. Born March 9, 1923, in Fredricksburg, Ohio, she was the daughter of Charles Ezra and Ella Mabel (Snure) Cramer. She lived in Ravenna since 1954. Mrs. Rathburn was formerly the night manager at the East Park Restaurant in Ravenna. Surviving are a son, Pierce Rathburn of Ravenna; daughters, Becky A. Battig of Wooster and Sarah L. Richards of Atwater; two granddaughters; two great-grandchildren; and a sister, Juanita "Skip" Campbell of Wooster. Her husband, Pierce E. Rathburn and a son, Charles E. Rathburn died previously. Calling hours are from 10 to 11 a.m. Wednesday at the Wood-Kortright Funeral Home, Ravenna Chapel (www.legacy.com). L. Chuck Blair
FREEDOM - L. Chuck Blair, 75, died Sunday, Nov. 5, 2000 at his residence after a long illness. Born Dec. 12, 1924, in Clarksburg, W.Va., he was the son of Burton Blair. He moved to Ohio in 1962. Mr. Blair had been employed as a die setter at Chrysler Corp. in Twinsburg for 25 years until he retired in 1986. He was a Portage County deputy sheriff for nine years, a bus driver for Kent schools and a driver for the Amish. He started Blair's Moving Co. while living in Michigan and also served as chief of police in Harrison County after returning from his military service. A U.S. Army veteran of World War II, he served in the 87th Infantry and fought in the Battle of the Bulge. Survivors include his wife, Jannette (Thomas), whom he married July 23, 1982; son, Larry (Donna) of Anmore, W.Va.; daughter, Teere Blair of Ravenna; stepsons, Patrick Fagen of Florida, Bryan Fagen, Keith Fagen, both of Freedom; stepdaughter, Connie Fagen of Brecksville; three grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; five brothers; and four sisters. Glenn J. Earnest
DEERFIELD - Glenn J. Earnest, 82, died Saturday, Nov. 4, 2000, at Robinson Memorial Hospital in Ravenna. Born Sept. 16, 1918 in Deerfield, he was the son of Arthur and Mary E. (Davis) Earnest. Mr. Earnest retired in 1983 from Transue and Williams Steel Forging Co. in Alliance, where he had been a forklift operator. He was a member of Deerfield United Methodist Church and a former member of the Deerfield Ruritan Club. He retired from the Deerfield Volunteer Fire Department and was one of its original members. Survivors include his wife, Lucille M. (Notman), to whom he was married 60 years, sons, Jim R. (Paulette), William "Chuck" (Barbie), and Terry L., all of Deerfield; daughter, Connie (James) Negley of Deerfield, 11 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; brother, William M. (Lenora) Ernest of Sebring; and sister, Delores M. Reese of Newton Falls. Fred Stuckey
Fred Stuckey, 100, of Canal Fulton, died Saturday, Nov. 4, 2000, at Chapel Hill Community in Canal Fulton. Born Sept. 3, 1900, in Paris, he was the son of Levi and Minnie (Mock) Stuckey. Mr. Stuckey was a member of United Church of Christ. He was a graduate of Louisville High School and 1925 graduate of Heidelberg College. He taught at Alliance High School for 38 years, retiring in 1962. Survivors include his daughters, Beatrice (Lee) Henry of Mansfield, Lois Hunter of Pittsburgh and Grace (Bill) Brinker of Kent; eight grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren. His first wife, Irene (Brickner); second wife Carolyn (Broeter); and brothers, Melvin and Virgl, died previously. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Chapel of Mount Union Cemetery with the Rev. Marcus Buehrer officiating. Edna Dodson, 90
Edna Mae Dodson, 90, of Kent died Friday, Nov. 10, 2000, at her home. Born March 1, 1910, in Akron, she was the daughter of Harry and Elizabeth Smith. Mrs. Dodson worked as a riveter for Twin Coach Co. during World War II, and was a grinder at Lamb Electric. She retired from Kent State University where she worked as a receptionist for 29 years. She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church. She enjoyed traveling, bowling, playing cards and bingo. Survivors include son, Donald of Kent; daughters, Marjorie Myers of Rootstown, Elsie Deacon of Kent and Emma Setlock of Brady Lake; nine grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren. Her husband, Cloyd, sons, Eddie and Charles, two grandchildren and sisters, Inez Bracher and Elsie Steinel all died previously. Helen Puffer, 82
Helen S. Puffer, 82, of Ravenna, died Wednesday, Nov. 8, 2000, at St. Lukes Medical Center in Solon of natural causes. Born Sept. 14, 1918, in Alliance, she was the daughter of Antony and Mary (Euska) Triansin. She lived in Ravenna for most of her life. Mrs. Puffer retired in 1983 from her job as an inspector with the Colonial Rubber Co. She was a member of the Seventh Day Adventist Church in Ravenna. Survivers include her son, Kenneth M. Puffer Jr. of Chagrin Falls; daughters, Nancy (Austin) Laughlin of North Carolina and Linda (Fred) Greer of Baton Rouge, La.; two grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. Her husband, Kenneth M., died in 1984. Her brothers, Pete and Nick Triansin and a sister, Millie Davis all died previously. Calling hours will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday at Shorts Funeral Home, Ravenna where services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday with Rev. Dan Thompson officiating.
