Helen Illemsky
Helen Illemsky, 82, died Friday, Feb. 27, 1998. She was born in Hungary, and worked as a chef in the Akron area. There will be no funeral service or calling hours; cremation has taken place. (Kucko-Anthony-Kertesz, 724-1281.)

Sophia Isenbarger
Sophia Isenbarger, 87, died March 4, 1998, at Evergreen Care Center in Medina. She was born in Cambridge, was formerly of Akron, and had been a Medina County resident for four years. She was a homemaker and housewife. She is survived by son, Larry (Nancy) Isenbarger of Medina; stepdaughter, Ruth Stoll of Florida; sister, Betty Churlik of Sharon, Pa.; five grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Wilbur F. (Bill). Services at 10 a.m. Saturday, March 7, 1998, in the chapel adjacent to the office of Greenlawn Cemetery, 2580 Romig Rd., Akron. Robert D. James
TALLMADGE -- Robert D. James, 79, died March 7, 1998. Mr. James retired in 1980 as a tool and die maker with the Akron Tool & Die Co. He was born in Akron and lived in Tallmadge since 1958. He was a member of the First Congregational Church of Tallmadge, and was an Army Air Corps veteran, serving in the CBI Theater from 1943 to 1946. Mr. James spent many happy hours in his workshop after his retirement, and enjoyed the recreation of square dancing for 36 years with the Silvertown Square Dance Club. He is survived by his wife, Doris L.; daughter and son-in-law, Sheila and Allen Burris of Richmond, Va.; son and daughter-in-law, Donald and Mineko James of Brimfield; grandchildren, Jessica and Elliott Burris. A memorial service will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at the Hennessy-Bagnoli Funeral Home, 339 Southwest Ave., with Rev. C. Edward Carter officiating. Friends will be received immediately following the service. Carl H. Johnson
Carl H. Johnson, 87 years, of Cuyahoga Falls, died March 1, 1998, at Sumner on Merriman. Born in Greensburg, Pa., Carl was a resident of the Akron area for 50 years. He received a mechanical engineering degree from Carnegie Institute of Technology in Pittsburgh. Carl retired in 1975 as assistant to the vice-president of Tire Engineering at General Tire, where he had worked for 43 years. He was a member of the Tadmor Temple and past president of the Tire & Rim Association. He was active in the First Congregational Church of Akron and had served as senior deacon. Carl was a devoted, good-natured and hard-working husband, father and friend. Preceded in death by his wife of 56 years, Edna, he will be sadly missed by son, Eric Johnson of Norton; daughter, Kathy Johnson of Akron; sister, Louise Cindric of Houston, Texas; sister-in-law, Louise Bolling of Greensburg, Pa.; and five nieces and nephews in Virginia and Houston. A memorial service will be Thursday, 2 p.m. at the First Congregational Church of Akron, 292 E. Market St., Rev. Dwight Mexcur and Rev. Dianne Shirey officiating. Friends may call at the Hummel Funeral Home, 500 East Exchange Street, on Wednesday from 5 to 8 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the First Congregational Church Outreach Program. Norma J. Johnson
Norma J. Johnson, 72, of Brandywine Valley, state Route 39 (east of Sugar Creek), died Sunday, March 1, 1998. Born Aug. 30, 1925, she was the daughter of Jasper Crile and Mildred Russell Johnson. Norma had a remarkable career, beginning with drafting at NASA, teaching home economics, mathematics, and English throughout Tuscarawas County, farming, raising sheep to produce specialty wools, spinning and weaving, broom-making and a wide collection of community service activities. She was the fifth generation of Johnsons to farm the land in Brandywine Valley. In 1989, Norma donated 63 acres of Sunny Slopes Farm to the Tuscarawas County Soil & Water Conservation District to establish the Norma Johnson Conservation Center. Among her many accomplishments and honors, in 1992 she received the Tuscarawas County Historical Society prestigious Zeisberger-Heckewelder award. Norma was a member of the Ragersville Historical Society, Tuscarawas County Historical Society, Brandywine Grange, Mid-States Wool Growers Association, Midwest National Wildlife Federation, Ohio Nut Growers Association, Midwest Weavers Association, Canton Weavers and Spinners, Ohio Arts and Crafts Guild, Tuscarawas County Genealogical Society, Inc., and the National Organization for Women. She is survived by her daughter, Susan Covey of Columbus; and stepson, Ronnie Casebeer of Dover. She leaves behind a host of friends. A memorial service celebrating a full life will be held at the Brandywine Grange, old Route 39, 3 1/2 miles west of Dover, on Saturday, March 14, at 2 p.m. Memorials may be sent to the Norma Johnson Conservation Center Fund (a non-profit) care of any branch of the National City Bank throughout Ohio. Alberta ``Bobbie'' Jolliffe
Alberta ``Bobbie'' Jolliffe, 63, passed away Tuesday, March 10, 1998, in Akron. She was born in Akron on July 28, 1934. She was preceded in death by her husband Robert C. Jolliffe; and brother-in-law, Glenn Jackson. She is survived by her children, Robert Lamar Jolliffe of Akron; Louise Marie Jolliffe of Akron, John (Debbie) Jolliffe of Texas, and Sharon Ann (Rick) Moyer of Akron; brother, Jim (Linda) Scalia of Akron; sisters, Doris (Ralph) Schuler, Iris (Jerry) Strebler, and Joan Jackson, all of Akron; four grandchildren, a host of nieces and nephews, and many Blues friends. Services will be held at 8 p.m. Friday, March 13, 1998, at the ADAMS MASON MEMORIAL CHAPEL (791 E. Market St.), where friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. Rev. G. Rod Taylor will conduct services. Donald ``Jonsey'' Jones, 70, died Friday, February 27, 1998. George Jones Sr.
George Jones Sr., 76, passed away March 1, 1998, at Middlebury Manor Nursing Home, after a long illness. Born in Midway, Ala., he had lived in this community since 1947. He was employed by Babcock & Wilcox Co. as a welder for 38 years, retiring in 1986. He is survived by his wife, Ruth; sons, George (Sharon) Jones Jr. and Willie (Doris) Jones; daughter, Frances Jones, all of Akron; grandchildren, Lovie, Richard, Tracy, Tammy, Lawrence, and Anthony; 14 great-grandchildren; mother-in-law, Lillie M. Flinn; daughter-in-law, Diane Jones Petterson, both of Akron; many other relatives and friends. Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday at Stewart & Calhoun Funeral Home, Elder Michael Martin officiating. Interment at Mount Peace Cemetery. Jessie H. Jones
Jessie H. Jones, 65, passed away March 4, 1998, at Akron General Medical Center. Born in Lake Providence, La., he had lived in this community 46 years. He had been employed at Rockwell International as an iron pourer for 20 years, retiring in 1982. Preceded in death by parents, Jim and Helen Jones, he is survived by beloved wife, Beverly; daughters, Deborah Jones, Mary Starks, all of Akron; sons, Reginald Jones of Akron, Michael Jones of Marion; brother, John Wesley Wilson of Ashbury, N.Y.; cousins, Rose and Tommy Thompson; nine grandchildren, five great-grandchildren; sister in-law, Ruby Wilson; special friends, Albert Jackson, Valerie Truitt Miller; a host of cousins, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Luella H. ``Tean'' Jones
Luella H. ``Tean'' Jones, 81, went to join her beloved husband, Martin B. Jones, on March 3, 1998. Born in Central City, Ky., on Sept. 6, 1916, to John and Luella Harper, she moved to the Akron area in 1939. She was a former member of the Calvary Baptist Church. Preceded in death by her husband, and daughters, Anna J. Palmer and Wanda L. McKinley, she is survived by her sons, Barnes (Ruth) Jones of Mogadore and Bobby T. (Carol) Jones of Akron; sisters, Hattie Stewart of Canton, Hallie Fleck of Mercer, Pa., and Irene Vincent of Central City, Ky.; 18 grandchildren, 28 great-grandchildren, three great-great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be Friday, March 6, 1998, at 10 a.m., at Schermesser Funeral Home, Akron Chapel, 1446 S. Main St. Calling hours will be Thursday, 7 to 9 p.m. Interment at Crown Hill Cemetery. HUDSON -- Jane Jordan, 65, passed away March 12, 1998. She was a teacher in Hudson at the Evamere Elementary School, retiring after her husband's death in 1986. She was a graduate of Miami (Ohio) University. She was preceded in death by her husband, Ted L. Jordan. She is survived by her sons and daughters-in-law, Ted Scott (Tina) of Austintown, Ohio, Jeffrey (Lauren) of Sparta, N. J., and Gregory (Joanne) of Lenexa, Kan.; grandchildren, Corinne and Erica of Sparta, N. J., Andrew of Lenexa, Kan., and Alexa and Kendall of Austintown; sister, Susan McBrinn of Connecticut. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that memorials be made to any Hospice organization. Services will be held Monday, March 16, at 10:30 a.m., at the First Congregational Church of Hudson, 47 Aurora St., Hudson. Burial at Markillie Cemetery. Scott Michael Joyner
Scott Michael Joyner, 6, of Springfield Township, died March 3, 1998, after a courageous battle with cancer. He was born in Akron on Jan. 16, 1992. He is survived by parents, Jim and Ellen of Springfield Township; grandparents, James and Diane Joyner of Green, Rob and Kathleen Ebenhack of Green; great-grandfather, Burt Joyner; uncles and aunts, Ron and Michelle Joyner, Jeff and Christy Joyner; and many other relatives and friends. A special thanks to the support staff, doctors and nurses at Children's Hospital Medical Center of Akron. Calling hours will be Thursday, 7 to 9 p.m., at the Schermesser Funeral Home, 600 E.
