Charles F. ``Chick'' Campbell
Charles F. ``Chick'' Campbell, 92, entered by grace into the loving arms of Jesus on Thursday, April 9, 1998. Mr. Campbell was born in Marietta, Ohio, on June 2, 1905. He was a resident of the Akron area all of his adult life. He retired in 1970 from General Tire & Rubber Company as a repair inspector for nearly 45 years. His memberships include General Tire Retirees Club; Sportsman's Hunting and Fishing Club, where he served as their secretary; Golden Age Eagle -- F.O.E. No. 555, with a 75-year membership. Preceded in death by his wife, Vurdis; daughter, Joann Shepherd; and brother, Bert; he is survived by daughter, Charlene Wolfe; grandchildren, Todd (Kathy) Wolfe, Troy Wolfe, Donna (John) Westren, Karen (Brock) Baughman; six great-grandchildren; also survived by other family members and friends. Funeral services will be Tuesday, 11 a.m., at the Hennessy-Bagnoli Funeral Home, 339 Southwest Ave., Tallmadge, Ohio, Rev. Joseph B. Serbin officiating. Interment at Hillside Memorial Gardens. Susan M. Carlson
Susan Marie Carlson, 48, passed away March 28 at Ohio State University Hospital. Born in Toledo, she and her husband, James, who was a native of Akron, were residents of Echoing Hills Residential Center in Warsaw, Ohio. She is survived by her husband, James Earl of Warsaw; parents, Edward and Eleanor Davis of Pinehurst, N. C.; sisters, Betsy Ann (Paul) Zazow, Mary Lou (Dudley) Cliff; and brother, Charles (Darlene) Davis. A graveside service will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, April 4, at Mt. Peace Cemetery in Akron. A memorial service will be at 3 p.m. April 4 at Echoing Hills Residential Center in Warsaw. E. LaVeta Carson
E. LaVeta Carson, age 88, of North Canton died Saturday evening at Aultman Hospital. She is survived by her son, R. Clayton of Canton; granddaughters, Christine and Douglas McCray of Bolivar, Colleen Carson of Durham, N.C.; grandsons, Scott Carson of North Canton, Stuart Carson of Charlotte, N.C.; great-grandchildren, Sean, Elyse, Trevor and Coral Beth Carson. Preceded in death by her husband, Wayne H. in 1989 and son, W. Stanton Carson in 1987. Private Funeral Services will be held Wednesday at Karlo & Sons Funeral Home. Burial will be in Mt. Dorothy E. Carten
Dorothy E. Carten, 77, passed away March 31, 1998. She is survived by her children, Elaine French, Deborah Beresford, and John Carten; four grandchildren, two great-grandchildren; and brother, Roger Lewis. Mary Dolly Casto, 77, of Cuyahoga Falls, passed away Sunday, April 12, 1998, at Traditions at Bath Road Nursing Home. John W. Cavileer (Jack Cavalier)
John W. Cavileer (Jack Cavalier), 77, died Wednesday, April 1 [1998]. Jack was a lifelong Akron resident, a 1938 Central High School graduate, and was a World War II veteran. He owned Cavalier Dodge from 1955 to 1965 and Cavalier Oldsmobile from 1966 until his retirement in 1993. Mr. Cavileer was a respected member of St. Sebastian and St. Anthony parishes. Jack is survived by loving wife, Connie; brother, Curt (Tine) of Albubquerque, N.M.; sister, Ethel (Dick) Myers of Naples, Fla.; seven proud children, Jackie (Jim) Postma of Atlanta, Ga., John F. (Kathy), Tony, Janina (Jeff) Postma, John J. (Mary), Jamie (Mary), and Jonna, all of Akron. Jack was also the proud grandfather of 18 grandchildren, Jay, Jamie (Karla), Danny (Jenifer), Jeff, Kelly and Rob Postma, Jonas, Jared, Johnny, Natalie, Richard, Joshua, Andy, Maria, Jamie, Marlea, Gina, and Olivia Cavileer; two great-grandchildren, Julie and ``to be announced'' Postma. NEWCOMERSTOWN -- Raymond C. Chadwell, 80, died Monday, March 30, 1998, in Dennison, Ohio. He was a former employee of U. S. Steel in Canton. He is survived by wife, B. Ann Lisak Chadwell of Newcomerstown; grandson, Gregory L. Chadwell of Honolulu; sister, Alice Marlatt of Newcomerstown; brother, Roy E. and wife, Garnet Chadwell, of Louisville; brother, Ronald B. and wife, Mona Chadwell, of Cuyahoga Falls; several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by parents, Bert B. and Hazel Forsythe Chadwell of Newcomerstown; son, Gregory Chadwell of Newcomerstown. Barney O. Chaney
WADSWORTH -- Barney O. Chaney, 82, died Sunday, March 29, 1998, at Brennfield Nursing Center. Mr. Chaney is survived by wife, Agatha (nee Runfola); sons, David of Creston, William of Wadsworth, Vincent of Barberton; five grandchildren, one great-granddaughter; brothers, Bob of Conneaut, Dale of Seville; sisters, Fern Weber of Lodi and Betty of Florida. Carl Chapman, 82, passed away April 4, 1998. Born in Morgantown W. Va., he had retired from SEMCO Division of McNeil Corp. with 15 years services. He is survived by former wife of 34 years Caroline S., son, David (JoAnn) Chapman; daughters, Marbara Ann Boyes and Bonnie Lynn (John P.) Salyer, all of Akron; nine grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren. Ethel Chermak
Ethel Chermak, 82, died Wednesday, April 1, 1998. She was born in Akron and had been employed by the M. O'Neil Co. for many years. She was a member of Guardian Angels Catholic Church, German American Club, Sons of Herman, Guardian Angels Seniors Club, Copley Golden Agers, and loved Gad-About Tours. Mrs. Chermak is survived by son and daughter-in-law, Alois and Katherine of Copley; daughters, Ethel Lois Chermak of California, Linda Marie Matyasi of Copley; sister, Helen (Clair) Herman of Copley; sister-in-law, Agetha Waicukewith of Akron; nine grandchildren, five great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. Emily Elizabeth Clark (Fuchs)
Emily Elizabeth Clark (Fuchs), the precious infant daughter of Robert and Julie Clark, was born March 26, 1998, and passed away April 2, 1998. Even though she was only with us a short time, we loved her so much. Emily will be remembered by her parents and family as a beautiful, perfect little girl, full of spirit. She will always be with us in our hearts. The family wishes to thank the doctors and nurses at Children's Hospital Neo-Natal Unit for their caring and diligent treatment of our little angel. In addition to her parents, Emily is survived by grandparents, Jerry and Rudella Clark, Ronald Fuchs and Patricia Cosgrove, David and Mary Saffles; great-grandparents, George and Tina Schueller, Frank and Betty Fuchs, Genevieve Clark, Maudie Hill, John and Nancy Saffles; aunts and uncles, Tammy and Jose Etchebarne, Michael Fuchs, Jennifer Saffles, David Saffles; and many other caring relatives. Clifford Merle Cook
Clifford Merle Cook, 93, passed away March 31, 1998, at Woodside Village in Mt. Gilead, Ohio. He was born Sept. 10, 1904, in Central City, Pa. He was a longtime resident of Akron. He retired from the Goodyear Tire & Rubber Co. He was preceded in death by his sisters, Blanche Shaffer and Frances Nosel; and brother, Quinten Fay. He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Mary Elizabeth Aleshire Cook; daughters, Wanda (David Sr.) Landis of Galion, Ohio, and Sandra Cook of Geneva, Ohio; grandchildren, David Jr., Tammy, Heather, Jennifer, Nicole, and Clifford Landis. There will be a memorial service held at 10 a.m. Saturday, April 4, 1998, at Greenlawn Memorial Park's Ivy Chapel (2580 Romig Rd. in Akron; 745-4515). Dorothy Coon (McClure)
Dorothy Coon (McClure), of Green, went home to be with the Lord on April 8, 1998, after a lengthy battle with cancer. Dorothy will be remembered as a loving and compassionate person who gave of herself unselfishly to all who knew and loved her. The joy of her life was being a good wife and mother. She was a lifetime member of the Akron Baptist Temple, where she taught Sunday School for many years. Preceded in death last October by Walter, her husband of 55 years; sister, Bonnie; and brother, Charles, she is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Gary and Marilyn of Texas; daughter and son-in-law, Joyce and Donald Marino of Minnesota; son and daughter-in-law, Walter III and Joyce of Green; granddaughters, Janet, Melissa and Stephanie; grandson, Brian; brother and sister-in-law, Clay and Winona McClure; sister and brother-in-law, Betty and Richard Bause; many loving nieces and nephews. Grace Skinner Coons
Grace Skinner Coons, 87, of Port Charlotte, Fla., died Monday, March 30, 1998, at Mariner Healthcare of Port Charlotte, Fla. She was born Nov. 23, 1910, in Belmont County, Ohio, and moved to Port Charlotte in 1974 from Akron. She retired from First National Bank of Akron. She was a member of Port Charlotte United Methodist Church, United Methodist Women of Port Charlotte, Genealogical Society of Port Charlotte, Business and Professional Women's Club of Akron, American Institute of Banking of Akron, First Families of Ohio, Daughters of American Revolution, and Daughters of American Colonists of Punta Gorda. She is survived by son, John T. Skinner of Akron; daughter, Martha Borocki of Bonita Springs, Fla.; five grandchildren, six great-grandchildren. A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, April 4, in the Old Stone Chapel in Greenlawn Memorial Park, where friends may call one hour before service time. Dr. Jack Dearth will officiate. Martha Cramer, 81, of Seminole, died Sunday, April 5, 1998, at Palm Garden of Largo Nursing Home. She came here in 1978 from her native Akron. She was a homemaker. Survivors include her husband of 60 years, Richard B.; son, Robert, Uniontown; daughters, Cheryl Neilsen of North Canton and Jean Lallathin of Seminole; seven grandchildren, and six great-grandchildren. MEDINA -- Lindsay A. Cuddy, 20, of Johnson City, Tenn., died unexpectedly Saturday, April 11, 1998, at Johnson City Medical Center from injuries incurred in an automobile accident. Iva Mae Cultrona, 89, passed away Thursday, April 2, 1998. She was born in Newark, Ohio the daughter of Burch A. and Alma (Mindigo) Fenner. Mrs. Cultrona was a member of Riverside Alliance Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, James Cultrona. Survivors include son and daughter in law, Jim and Dolores; daughter and son-in-law, Carol and Francis Rick all of Akron; sister, Marie Ries and brother and sister-in-law, Charles and Betty Fenner all of Phoenix, Ariz.; six grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren, one great-great-granddaughter. Rosie Lee Cunningham
Rosie Lee Cunningham, 97, departed this life March 27, 1998. Born in Marengo County, Ala., she had lived in the Akron community for the past 24 years. She was a member of Antioch Baptist Church, where she was a deaconess. Preceded in death by brothers, Frank, Tom, Jack, Charlie Jr., Tony, and Walter Kimbrough; sisters, Emmaline Roper and Etta Autery, she is survived by son, Cecil D. (Hattie Lee) Cunningham of Akron; sister, D. A. C. Jackson of Cahokia, Ill.; six grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren, 13 great-great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Olga Curtis (nee Eleftheriades)
Olga Curtis (nee Eleftheriades), 72, went to be with the Lord on April 7, 1998. She was born in Russia, and was a resident of Tallmadge for 30 years. She was affiliated with the First Congregational Church of Tallmadge, and retired after over 10 years of service for the Chapel Hill Brown Derby. She is survived by daughters, Rita Tsesmeloglou of Cuyahoga Falls and Sally Curtis of Cleveland; son and daughter-in-law, Harry and Tammy Curtis of Stow; sisters, Despina Sioniakides, Sophia Evmorfidis, Parthenopi Tsourouflis; brother, Eleftherios Elftheriades; three grandchildren. Funeral services will be Saturday at 11 a.m. at the Hennessy-Bagnoli Funeral Home, 339 Southwest Ave., Tallmadge, with Pastor John Hionides officiating. Interment at Chesnut Hill Cemetery. SOUTH CAROLINA -- Harold E. Custer, 80, passed away April 4, 1998, at a Charleston, S. C., hospital. Born in Steubenville, Ohio, he lived in the Akron area until 1991, then moved to Summerville, S. C. Mr. Custer was a retired painter and a member of Local Union 841 in Akron. He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Norma of Summerville, S. C.; daughter and son-in-law, Brenda and Jerry Clark of Moncks Corner, S. C.; daughters, Beverly Blackert of Akron, Shirley Webb of Stittsville, Ontario, Canada; brother, Charles of Carrollton; and nine grandchildren. Services were held in South Carolina.
