Clarence F. Ebie
Clarence F. Ebie, 82, of Howard, Ohio, died Thursday afternoon at Knox Community Hospital from an extended illness. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Karlo & Sons Funeral Home, with Rev. Greg Ebie officiating. Burial will be at Sunset Hills Memory Gardens. Friends may call 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association, 1327 Market Ave., North Canton, 44714. William Joseph Ebner
William Joseph Ebner, 79, died March 31, 1998. A graduate of North High School, he was in the C.C.C., and was a veteran of the U. S. Army. After the service, he worked for the Goodyear Tire & Rubber Co., and then started and operated the Ebner Heating and Air Conditioning Co. for 45 years. He opened 13 Phillips gas stations and operated them for 10 years, where he pioneered in starting convenience stores in gas stations. He loved his antique cars and enjoyed cooking. The son of Joseph and Grace Ebner, he was preceded in death by brothers, Thomas and Ralph Ebner, and is survived by wife of 39 years, Bonnie J.; sisters-in-law; many nieces and nephews; and good, good friend, Regina Ashley. A private memorial celebration of the life of William Joseph Ebner will be held. There are no calling hours. George Cowan Fenker
DURHAM, N. C. -- George Cowan Fenker, 72, of 3007 Pickett Rd., Durham, N. C., died Sunday at his home. A native of Cleveland, he was the son of the late Arthur N. and Ruth Rappold Fenker. In 1958, he graduated from Fenn College (now Cleveland State University) and began his engineering career. He was president and chairman of the board of Woodruff and Associates, president of the Municipal Engineering Association of Northeast Ohio, and was a member of the board of the Northeast Ohio Regional Sewer District. Mr. Fenker was the city engineer for many cities in Ohio, including Pepper Pike, Parma Heights and Lyndhurst. Mr. Fenker also worked for C T Consultants. Of his many engineering accomplishments, he took great pride in his involvement in the engineering of Blossom Music Center, the summer home of the Cleveland Orchestra, and Sea World in Geauga County. Surviving are son, Waldo E. Fenker Enschede of the Netherlands; daughters, Marcia F. Curtis of Durham and Rebecca A. Rounds of San Jose, Calif.; and brother, John Fenker of Naples, Fla. A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at Eno River Unitarian Universalist Fellowship, with the Rev. Dr. Arvid Straube and the Rev. Arlene Lukas officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association, 300 Silver Cedar Ct., Chapel Hill, N. C. 27514. Pat Finkle
Pat Finkle, 84, died April 7. A lifelong resident of Akron, Pat was a manager at Clarkins. He was an avid bowler, fisherman, golfer, and award-winning cross-stitcher. After retirement, Pat and Marie, his loving wife of 60 years, spent winters residing in Panama City Beach, Fla., enjoying shelling and visiting with family and friends. They traveled extensively. Pat was a member of Trinity U.C.C. and Masonic Lodge 83. Pat leaves wife, Marie; and sister, Sara Schultz. Pat, who loved children, leaves daughters, Marjorie Chevrier and Susan Radbourne; granddaughters, Lisa Mansfield, Rachele Kappler, Amy and Julie Petrarca; and three great-grandsons. A memorial service to celebrate Pat's life and love will be held at his home, Sumner on Merriman, on Monday, April 13, at 11 a.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to TNC c/o Trinity U.C.C., 915 N. Farrel ``Fred'' J. Finnerty
NORTHFIELD/WADSWORTH -- Farrel ```Fred'' J. Finnerty, 67, died unexpectedly Monday, April 6, 1998, at Wadsworth-Rittman Hospital. Born in Cleveland, Mr. Finnerty was residing in Northfield. He was a U. S. Army veteran, serving during the Korean Conflict, and was a horse trainer at Northfield Park for over 25 years. Mr. Finnerty is survived by son and daughter-in-law, Fredrick and Kelly of Wadsworth Township; daughter and son-in-law, Eileen and Ron Chaffin of Creston; four grandchildren, and two sisters. Helen A. (Koble) Fodor
Helen A. (Koble) Fodor, 77, died Wednesday, April 1, 1998, at Akron General Medical Center. She was born in Lackawanna, N.Y., and had been an Akron resident most of her life. She was the first female secretary hired by the Akron Fire Department and was later employed by the IRS in the Collections Department for over 19 years, retiring in 1982. She was a member of Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Church and the Ladies Guild. Helen belonged to the legion of women who are devoted wives, mothers and grandmothers. Mrs. Fodor was preceded in death by her husband, Andrew, in 1992 and her sister, Margaret Engle, and is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Thomas and Karen of Scarborough, Maine; daughters and son-in-law, Mary Ellen and Stephen Gardner of Rochester, N.Y., and Christine Fodor of Akron; grandchildren, Lynn Marie Gardner, Veronica Ellen Fodor and Drew Thomas Fodor; brother, Julius Koble of Agora, Calif. Funeral service will be held Monday, 10 a.m. at the Kucko-Anthony-Kertesz Funeral Home and 10:30 a.m. at Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Church, Rev. Fr. Robert Clancy officiating. Interment at Holy Cross Cemetery. The family will receive friends Sunday, 3 to 6 p.m. at the funeral home, where a rosary service will be held Sunday at 5:30 p.m. Donations may be made to Sacred Heart Church. Dora Jean Forsythe
Dora Jean Forsythe, 77, passed away April 12, 1998. Born in Uhrichsville, Ohio, she was a housewife, and a member of the Springfield Church of the Brethren. Survivors include her son, Edward K. Forsythe of Windham; daughters, Patricia Ann Cowger of Brimfield, Carolyn May Shiflett of Newton Falls, and Debra Jean Forsythe of Akron; 11 grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren; brothers, Donald, Frank, and James Mills, all of Akron; sisters, Marguerite St. Aubin of Maryland, Geraldine Mills of Akron, and Shirley Dugan of Tallmadge. Richard William Foss, 88, passed away April 8, 1998. Born in Akron, he retired from the B. F. Goodrich Co. after 43 years of service as a foreman. He is survived by loving wife of 65 years, Frances; sons, Richard G. (Beverly) Foss and John (Anita) Foss; grandchildren, Brian (Connie) Foss, Deborah (Ken) Richards, Kristeena Foss, Jennifer (Eric) Heller, and Michael Foss; great-grandchildren, Kelsey, Sarah, and Brian; and sister, Marian Smith of Wadsworth. Colonia Foster, 97, passed away April 3, 1998 at Akron City Hospital. Born in Union Springs, AL. she had lived in this community 23 years. She was a member of Antioch Baptist Church. She is survived by brother, Charles McGhee; sister, Ruby Brazil, both of Akron; stepdaughter, Alice Dean Foster, Los Angeles, CA.; a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Guy W. (Bill) Foster
Guy W. (Bill) Foster, 54, of Akron, went home peacefully to be with the Lord on April 6, 1998, at Akron City Hospital. He was born Jan. 29, 1944, the son of Guy and Dorothy Foster. Survivors include his loving wife of 31 years, Carol J.; daughters, Dottie J., Lori A., and Billie J.; stepfather, Wilford Kysor; brother and sister-in-law, Bruce and Sherry; sister and brother-in-law, Dixie and Willis Eagon; mother-in-law and father-in-law, Dorothy and Walter Kurtz; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Loren and Karen Kurtz; very special nieces and nephews; extra-special neighbors and friends, especially Kevan, Renee Price, Tiffany and Kyle--Grandpa Bill's adopted grandkids. Bill will be sadly missed by everyone who knew and loved him. He was preceded in death by his parents. Friends may call Wednesday from 6 to 8 p.m. at the FARLEY FUNERAL HOME, 131 N. Canton Rd. Steven Joseph Francis
DELTONA -- Steven Joseph Francis, 83, of Bakersfield Avenue, a rubber worker for B. F. Goodrich in Akron for 39 years before his retirement, died Tuesday, March 31, 1998, at Via Bella Assisted Living Facility in Sanford. Mr. Francis was born in Akron and came to Deltona in 1978 from Cuyahoga Falls. Survivors include son, Stephen C.; daughter, Dolores Szymanski; five grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren. Harriet M. Franklin (Cardarelli)
Harriet M. Franklin (Cardarelli), 88, of Akron, passed away peacefully at the Village at St. Edward. A lifelong Akron resident, she was a graduate of Sacred Heart Academy, and was a lifetime member of Annunciation Catholic Church, where she belonged to the Altar and Rosary Society. Helen E. Freudeman, 98, died April 4, 1998. Mrs. Freudeman was born in Barberton and was a life resident of the Akron area. She was a member of First Grace United Church of Christ and was a charter member of the Altar Circle of the Church. The widow of Walter O. Freudeman; she is survived by her daughter, Elizabeth Hecht of Reynoldsburg, Ohio; sons, Walter E. of Crystal River, Fla. and Charles L. of Akron; 9 grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Services will be held 1 p.m. TUESDAY at First Grace United Church of Christ, with Rev. Jeffrey Powell Rider officiating. Interment at Mt. Peace Cemetery. Anna Fuchs, 92, of Akron, passed away April 12, 1998. Born in Austria-Hungary, she was a resident of Akron for 77 years. She was a member of the German-American Ladies Auxiliary and the Sisters of Herman Bertha Lodge. She was preceded in death by her husband of 37 years, John Fuchs, in 1962; and her sons-in-law, Bill Deckard and John Poor. She is survived by daughter, Mrs. Rose Ann Deckard; grandchildren, Vickie Ward, Linda (Tom) Gerber, Karen Bonnell, Bill (Denise) Deckard, and Susan Deckard; great-grandchildren, Andrea, Joshua, Kyle, Kevin, Brian, Michael, Christa, Aaron, and Benjamin.
