Walter Caprez
Walter Caprez, 86, of Akron, died Tuesday, May 12, 1998. Mr. Caprez was born Zurich, Switzerland, on Oct. 27, 1911, and came to the Akron area 84 years ago. He was a member of St. Anthony's Catholic Church, Third Order of St. Francis, and Akron Swiss Society, and graduated from St. Charles College in Baltimore, Md. He retired in 1975 from Carpenter's Local 639 and was a carpenter for 30 years. Preceded in death by his brother, Joseph Caprez; and sister, Mary Bailey, he is survived by his beloved wife, Catherine; daughters, Theresa Caprez, Monica (John) Casto, Maria (Rodney) Page, and Regina (Gregory) York; sons, Michael (Cynthia), Gabriel (Terri), Raphael (Jane), and Daniel (Patricia); 17 grandchildren; brothers, John (Lee) and Anthony (Mary Lou). Rector R. Carper
NORTON -- Rector R. Carper, 87, passed away May 5, 1998. Rector was born in Little Lefthand, W. Va., on June 8, 1910. He worked for B. F. Goodrich in their mold department for 27 years. He was preceded in death by Oval Bitting Carper; stepdaughter, Sarah Porr; three brothers and four sisters. He is survived by his wife of 35 years, Velda (Wayne) Carper; stepdaughters, Dianna and Kay Wayne of Norton; stepson, Larry Bitting of Wellington, Ohio; brother, Floyd Carper of West Virginia; sisters, Kathleen of West Virginia, Ethel of North Carolina; and several grandchildren and great-grandchildren. William J. Cassidy
William J. Cassidy, 65, of Medina, went home to be with the Lord on May 3, 1998. Born Dec. 6, 1932, in Cleveland, he was a Medina County resident since 1974. He was a member of St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church, an avid boater, and loved hunting and fishing. He belonged to the Moose Club and the Eagles, and loved football. He graduated from St. Ignatius High School and Mount Union College, and played in the first charity game for St. Ignatius High School. Mr. Cassidy was a salesman for Ryan Homes, and a U. S. Army veteran. He is survived by wife, Carolyn (Mooney); sons, Patrick (Mary) Cassidy, Timothy (Tina) Cassidy, John (Elizabeth) Cassidy, all of Medina, and Michael (Ann Marie) Cassidy of Sharon Center; daughters, Carolyn (Andrew) Arehart and Kathleen Cassidy, both of Medina; brother, Edward (Sharon) Cassidy of University Heights; grandchildren, Jane, Andrew, and William John (Jack). Jack Chandler
Jack Chandler, 66, of Beaver, Ohio, died May 5, 1998, at his residence. He was born Aug. 15, 1931, in Beaver, Ohio, to George Estil and Lydia (Osborn) Chandler. He was employed as an electrician for Conrail, and served in the U. S. Army. Preceded in death by brother, Hargas Roscoe McKenzie, he is survived by his wife of 47 years (married May 13, 1950), Lenora (West) Chandler; sons, James (Dolly) Chandler of Beaver, Ed (Lana) Chandler of West Union, Wayne (Judy) Chandler of Beaver, and Mike (Diane) Chandler of Flowery Branch, Ga.; brother, Jerry Chandler of Jackson; sister, Anna Lee Newman of McArthur; eight grandchildren, and one great-grandchild. Richard Chasar
BARBERTON -- Richard Chasar, 65, loving husband, friend, and lover, passed away May 3, 1998. Mr. Chasar was a Kent State graduate, real estate broker, high-school teacher, and a machine tool rep. He served in the U. S. Army during the Korean War. He was a member of St. Augustine Catholic Church and the Loyal Moose Lodge 759. Mrs. Chasar was Hungarian and his wife, Catherine, was Croatian. They enjoyed sharing one another's heritage with each other. He dearly loved his children and grandchildren. He is survived by loving wife of 20 years, Catherine; sons and daughters, Eileen (Chris) Hauer, Renee (Robert) Wojcinski, Cathy P. Breen, Rachel Ann (Dan) Clark, and James P. Ross L. Chastain
Ross L. Chastain, 95, died April 29, 1998. Born in Blairsville, Ga., he had been a resident of Uniontown for the past 22 years. He worked for the Firestone Tire and Rubber Co. for 20 years and helped open a factory for them in England in 1929. He retired in 1973 as national sales manager for EIS Automotive Co. in Middletown, Conn. Mr. Chastain was a member of Dooley Lodge No. 667 F.&A.M. in Blairsville, Ga., the Tadmor Shrine for 50 years, and the First Baptist Church of Akron. He had a great interest in genealogy and after five years of research, wrote a book on the history of the Benjamin Nelson Chastain family. He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Audrey; daughter and son-in-law, Linda and Thomas Gies of New Philadelphia; son and daughter-in-law, Edward Ross Chastain and Mary Ellen Woods of Williamsburg, Mass.; grandson, Eli Edward Gies; and granddaughters, Elizabeth and Elyse; brother, C. A. Chastain of Uniontown; and many nieces and nephews. Service will be held 11 A.M. TODAY at the Billow FALLS Chapel, corner of Twenty-third and Falls Ave., with Rev. T. John ``Pudge'' Cirullo
TALLMADGE -- John ``Pudge'' Cirullo, 79, passed away May 8, 1998, at his home, surrounded by his loving family. Born in Clarksburg, W. Va., he lived in the Tallmadge area for the past 40 years. Mr. Cirullo served in the 504th Airborne Division of the U. S. Army during World War II, and was a member of Iron Worker's Local 17 for 50 years. BARBERTON -- Ruby A. Clement (Mason), 82, died May 8, 1998. She was born in Monterey, Tenn., and was a life resident of Barberton. Ruby had worked in the restaurant business all of her life and was known for her culinary talents by many. Preceded in death by husband, Worley Mason, she is survived by son, James (Adele) Mason of Clinton; daughter, Cheryl (Richard) Ozmore of Barberton; five grandchildren, five great-grandchildren; brothers, Raymond of Barberton, Aurthur of Norton, Edgar of Alabama; sisters, Beulah Trout of Maryland, Emma J. William H. Clepper Sr.
William Henry Clepper Sr. (Tootsie) departed this life May 18, 1998, after a short illness. He was born March 31, 1928, in Monohalia, W. Va. He lived and worked in the Akron area for 50 years. He served in the U. S. Navy as a Steward Mate 1st Class, honorably discharged in 1948. He worked at Goodyear Tire & Rubber Co. for 38 1/2 years before retiring in 1990. He was preceded in death by his loving parents Pashion and Vance Oney, and John Williams; son, Eugene Clepper. He is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 51 years, Clara Clepper; sons, William (Sandra) Clepper Jr., John (Dreama) Clepper; daughters, Virginia (Robert) Clepper, Brenda (Lundy) Robinson, Eileen (Watson) Singleton, Alice (Grady) Rice; 11 grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren; special friend of 40 years, George Hammett; goddaughter, Annie Robinson. Vynita ``Von'' Cogar, formerly of Akron/Cleveland, passed away May 10, 1998, at her home in Hudson, Fla. Flora L. Fouts Cognion, 86, of West Lafayette, died Sunday, May 10, 1998. She was born July 22, 1911, in Pennsville, Morgan County, Ohio, to the late William F. and Letitia L. Fouts. She was a graduate of Jefferson High School, Dresden, Ohio, was a housewife and short order cook for restaurants in Coshocton County. Her memberships included Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church in Wills Creek, St. Francis DeSales Catholic Church in Newcomerstown, and Rosary and Altar societies of the church. Preceded in death by two infant children; brothers, Herbert Fouts, Charles Fouts and Henry Fouts; and sister, Georgia Ruth McConnell; she is survived by her husband, Walter V. Cognion (whom she married July 27, 1932 in Dresden); sons, Leonard A. (Darlene) Cognion of Roscoe, Donald W. (Barbara) Cognion of Coshocton, and William F. (Darlene) Cognion of West Lafayette; daughters, Dorothy A. Miller of West Lafayette, Sara V. Grewell of Newcomerstown, and Mrs. Allan (Ann L.) Pastor William Edward Cole
Pastor William Edward Cole, 70, of Bunnell, Fla., formerly of Hartville and Alliance, passed away unexpectedly May 11. Born Feb. 9, 1928, in New Baltimore, Ohio, to the late James and Sarah Cole, he was a resident of Florida for the past 20 years. He pastored at Grace Brethren Church of Palm Beach and managed a Gospel book shop in Daytona Beach. Pastor Bill was also active in migrant missionary ministries. He was a veteran of the Korean Conflict. He is survived by his wife, Joan of Bunnell, Fla.; daughter and son-in-law, Dawn and Jack Howard of Eagle Lake, Fla.; sons and daughters-in-law, Pastor Gary and Grace Cole of Gainesville, Ga., Jonathan and Laura Cole of Tallmadge, David and Tammy Cole of Phoenix, Ariz.; brother, Charles Cole of Cleveland; 15 grandchildren, and one great-grandchild. Carl ``Bud'' Combs, entered the gates of Heaven on May 7, 1998, after a courageous battle with cancer. He will be missed by his friend and companion, Delores ``Dee'' Starchvick; children, Nancy (Mark) Coulis, Walter (Nancy), Diana (John) King, Max (Martha), Glenn, Larry, and Lester. He was the loving grandfather of 13, great-grandfather of one; dear brother of Clyde (Mary), Adrian, Eldred (Pauline), Edward (Peg), Mildred McLaughlin, Sharon Rose Thatcher, and Kathleen Moga; loving uncle and friend. Jaunita Coney, 68, passed away at Hospice Care Center, May 16, 1998. She was born June 7, 1929 in Tennessee, the daughter of Jack & Gladys Ault. Jaunita retired from E.J. Hamad Restaurant after being employed for 28 years. She is preceded in death by her parents; son, James Walker; and brother, Billie Ault. She is survived by her daughters and sons-in-law, Carolyn and Jack Martin, Hilda and Daniel Wagle, and Geraldine and Steve Koerber; son and daughter-in-law, Billie and Denise Walker; stepfather, Adam Skibiski; daughter-in-law, Pattie Walker; 23 grandchildren, and several great-grandchildren. Steve Conobre
Steve Conobre, 73, died Saturday, May 2, 1998. He was born in Akron. He retired as a general manager of MargoLincoln-Mercury and had worked for Don Joseph Chrysler-Plymoth. He was a veteran of the Navy serving in WWII on the USS Intrepid. Mr. Conobre is survived by his loving wife of 48 years, Mitzi; daughters and sons-in-law, Paula and Tom Seibel, Pookie and Bruce Barnes; beloved granddaughters, Nichole and Brittany Barnes; sister, Zora Heller; sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Anne and Wally Hrkman; and several nieces and nephews. CUYAHOGA FALLS -- Leo H. Conroy, 79, died May 7, 1998. Mr. Conroy was born in Akron and had resided in Cuyahoga Falls the past 23 years, moving there from Akron. He retired in 1981 as a machinist for the Mechanical Mold & Machine Co., was a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church, and was a veteran of World War II, serving with the U. S. Navy. He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Ruth; daughter and son-in-law, Patricia and Robert Rottler of Southington, Conn.; son, Thomas E. of Portland, Ore.; daughter, Eileen Conroy and her husband, Michael McHugh, of Arvada, Colo.; son, Paul of Cuyahoga Falls; grandchildren, Jennifer, Kevin, and Laura Rottler, and John, Caitlin, and Anna McHugh. Rev. Charles M. Cradlebaugh
Rev. Charles M. Cradlebaugh, 60, of Akron, went home to be with the Lord on Friday, May 8, 1998, at Akron General Hospital. He was born June 2, 1937, in Summit County, the son of Guy M. and Stella M. (Ritz) Cradlebaugh. Rev. Cradlebaugh was retired from the City of Akron Water Treatment Department with 37 years of service, and served as pastor of the North Arlington Church of God. He was a member of the AFSCME 1360, and also served as secretary-treasurer. Kathryn M. ``Kay'' Craig, 94, passed away April 30, 1998. Born in Osceola Mills, Pa., she resided in Akron most of her life, moving to Port Charlotte, Fla., in 1971 after retiring, and returning to Akron in 1987. Mrs. Craig was employed as a nurse with the Akron Health Department, and attended St. Matthews, St. Vincent, and St. Hilary Catholic churches. Preceded in death by husbands, Jerry Polm and William Craig; brothers, Raymond, Joseph, and Vincent; and parents, Frank and Jessie Scovern; she is survived by relatives and close friends who loved her, Gladys Scovern, Raymond and Linda Scovern, James and Jill Scovern, Mary and Tom McLaughlin, Barbara and John Jacobson, Patsy Templeton, Betty Ann Miller, Sue and Tom Thomas, and Elsie Mendez. Ralph F. Crown
Ralph F. Crown, 89, passed away May 8, 1998, at Akron General Medical Center. Retired from B. F. Goodrich, Mr. Crown had lived in Florida for 26 years before returning to Wadsworth in 1996. He was an active member of the Lockwood United Methodist Church. A member of the Portage Lakes Lodge 752, he was a 32nd Degree Mason with a 50-year membership in the Scottish Rite. Funeral services will be held Saturday, May 16, 1998, 12 p.m., at Antioch Baptist Church, 670 Wooster Ave., Dr. J. Wayman Butts officiating, and where the family will receive friends from 11 a.m. until time of service. Interment at Mt. Peace Cemetery. Joe O. Curry
Joe O. Curry, 74, passed away May 5, 1998, at Akron City Hospital, after a long illness. Born in Talladega, Ala., he lived in this community 55 years. He was employed as a real estate broker for J. Ostell Curry, last working in 1992. He was a member of Bethel Baptist Church, serving as a deacon, Mt. Calvary Lodge 76, the National Association of Realtors, and the National Association of Realtists. Mr. Curry is survived by wife, Velma Alice Thomas Curry; sons, Frank (Nina) Curry, Jay (Christine) Curry, both of Akron; daughter, Margaret (Edward) Pruitt of San Diego, Calif.; five grandchildren, five great-grandchildren; brother, Frank Curry of Talladega, Ala.; a host of other relatives and friends. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at Greater Bethel Baptist Church, with Reverend Darrel Isaiah officiating and Reverend G. A. Humphrey Sr. eulogizing.
