Katherine Iffland
Katherine Iffland, 99, passed away May 3, 1998, after a short illness. Born in Hungary, she emigrated to the United States in the early 1900s, became a naturalized American citizen, and resided in the Akron area for 80 years. She was a member of First Grace United Church of Christ. Preceded in death by husband, Henry, in 1977; son, Henry and his wife, Margaret; and daughter-in-law, Peggy (Adam) Iffland, she is survived by son, Philip; four grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren. Lucille Julia Johnson
CUYAHOGA FALLS -- Lucille Julia Johnson, 92, died May 4, 1998. Mrs. Johnson was born in Barnesville, Ohio, and had resided in Cuyahoga Falls the past 21 years, moving there from north Akron. She had formerly worked for the M. O'Neil Co., and was a member of North Hill United Methodist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, Walter, and is survived by her sons and daughters-in-law, Donald E. and Kathleen of Cuyahoga Falls, Howard and Sylvia of Akron, David and Yvonne of East Canton; 11 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren; and sisters, Martha Laney of Annapolis, Md., and Carolyn Merrill of Barnesville, Ohio. Wallace Berry Jones
Wallace Berry Jones, 76, went home to be with the Lord on May 10, 1998, at Akron General Medical Center, after a long illness. Born in Macon, Ga., he had lived in this community for 45 years. He was employed by B. F. Goodrich for 40 years, retiring in 1984, and was a member of St. John C.M.E. Church. He is survived by wife, Josephine; sons, Wallace B. (Betty) Jones Jr. of Akron and Wendell Jones of Chicago, Ill.; sister, Aria B. (Alex) Johnson of Shaker Heights, Ohio; five grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Funeral services will be held Friday, May 15, 1998, at 1 p.m., at St. John C.M.E. Church, Rev. Arthur Green officiating. Interment at Glendale Cemetery. Elizabeth Josefczyk
Elizabeth Josefczyk, 87, of Tallmadge, passed away Thursday, May 7, 1998, at Akron City Hospital. Formerly of St. Clairsville, Mrs. Josefczyk was born in Hungary on March 15, 1911. She was a member of St. Matthew's Catholic Church. Preceded in death by her parents, Steve Nagy Sr. and Rose Kolozsi; husband, John Josefczyk; and brothers, Steve Jr. and Joe Nagy, Elizabeth is survived by her sister, Margaret Aleva of Tallmadge; and several nieces and nephews. Friends were received at the Beck Funeral Home, 204 W. Main St., St. Clairsville, Monday from 10 a.m. until time of service at 11 a.m. Fr. Thomas Graven officiated. John L. Karasek
John L. Karasek, 81, died May 8, 1998. Born in Cleveland, he had been a resident of Hinckley for most of his life, where he was a farmer. He was a member of Bethel Lutheran Church. Preceded in death by brother, James Karasek; and sister, Rose Karasek, he is survived by his wife of 58 years, Katherine; sister, Emily Schanz of Florida; brother, Joseph Karasek of Parma Heights; sister-in-law, Eva Guerra of Copley Township; five nieces, and five nephews. Services will be held at 7 p.m. SUNDAY at the Billow FAIRLAWN Chapel, 85 N. Miller Rd., with Rev. Richard R. Gordon officiating. Paul Henry (Hank) Kemmery Jr.
CUYAHOGA FALLS -- Paul Henry (Hank) Kemmery Jr., 45, passed away suddenly May 3, 1998, after a brief illness. He was preceded in death by his parents, Paul H. Kemmery and Grace E. Kemmery Brookover, and is survived by his sisters, Victoria (Bill) Donovan of Albany, Ga., and Jennifer (Steve) Podnar of Clinton; brother, Ken Brookover of Ravenna; many nieces and nephews, and his many friends at Acme 10. A memorial service will be at 4 p.m. Wednesday, May 6, 1998, at the Chapel in North Canton, 715 Whittier Ave. N.W., off Portage Street (494-3419). Marietta M. Kennedy
Marietta M. Kennedy, 76, of W. Jefferson, died Saturday at Madison County Hospital, London, Ohio. Survivors include daughters, Ann Matthews of Sebastian, Fla., and Linda Ball of West Jefferson; sons, Robert (Mary Jo) Kennedy of Gobles, Mich., and Jeffrey (Sharon) Kennedy of Columbus; grandchildren, Kelly Webb and Cara (David) Stone, Matt (Tina) Ball and Melissa Ball, Lora and Joseph Kennedy; and 10 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by husband, Charles Roy Kennedy. Funeral service will be 3 p.m. Wednesday at the Rader-McDonald Funeral Home, 57 S. Center St., West Jefferson, Ohio. Bertha Kipp
Bertha Kipp, 98 years, of Akron, went home to be with the Lord May 11, 1998. Bertha was a life resident of Akron and a member of St. Bernard Church. Preceded in death by husband, Arthur J. Kipp, in 1971, and daughter, Eleanor Buehrle, in 1982, she is survived by daughter, Ruth Roberts of Akron; son and daughter-in-law, Dick and Beverly Kipp of Cuyhoga Falls; nine grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren. Mass of Christian Burial will be held Thursday, 11 a.m. at St. Bernard Church. Interment at Holy Cross Cemetery. No visitation. Harry Earl Klontz
Harry Earl Klontz, 100, passed into the presence of the Lord on May 12, 1998, at Altercare Retirement Center in Canton. Mr. Klontz was born in Jamestown, Ohio, on Dec. 18, 1897, to Edwin and Minnie Klontz. He was a graduate of Ross Township High School, attended Ohio Northern College, and taught school in various one-room schoolhouses throughout the area. He was married to Edith A. Staley in 1919; they moved to Akron, where they resided most of their lives, celebrating 69 years of marriage together. A veteran of World War I, he was active in Post 209 Drum & Bugle Corps. He was employed at Goodyear Tire & Rubber Co. Mr. Klontz became a member of the Goodyear Squadron in 1925. He left Goodyear and joined the City of Akron Fire Department in July 1931, retiring as captain in 1963. For many years he had been the oldest living Fire Department retiree, and the only firefighter to reach the age of 100. Mr. Klontz was a charter member of First United Presbyterian Church in Akron, active as an elder, trustee, treasurer, Sunday School teacher, and member of the Session. He was also a member of the Gideons, distributing Bibles to various organizations. He belonged to the Akron Masonic Lodge 83, F&AM. He was preceded in death by wife, Edith, in 1988, and will be sadly missed by sons, Everett of Lafayette, Ind., Kenneth (Betty) of Wadsworth; daughters, Arlene (Elmer) Ealy of Uniontown and Beverly (Jim) Dial of Akron; brother, Woodrow (Betty) Klontz of Heath; sister, Mary Dickman of Portland, Ore.; nephew, Paul (Helen) Klontz; 14 grandchildren, 26 great-grandchildren, and five great-great-grandchildren. Friends may call at the Hopkins Lawver Funeral Home, 547 Canton Rd., Friday, May 15, 1998, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m., where Masonic services will be conducted by Akron Masonic Lodge 83. Emma Matilda (Powell) Kohlhepp
Emma Matilda (Powell) Kohlhepp, 83, passed away May 16, 1998. Emma was born in Adrian, Pa. on May 31, 1914. She was a member of the Cottage Grove E.C. Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, John and brother, William Powell, and is survived by her daughters, Patricia Hill (William Allen) and Virginia ``Peachy'' (Peter) Cernava; foster-daughter, Hazel Hess; sisters, Dorothy Fike, Peg Archibald, and Nancy Pinchot; grandchildren, James Hill, Stephen, Michael, and Belinda Cernava; great-grandchildren, Andy Cernava and Paige Hill. Mildred Komar (nee Franta), 82, of Richfield, was the loving mother of Frances Jane, Carol, and James (Stacy); grandmother of Michelle, Anthony, and Holly; beloved sister of Helen Zaucha of Michigan and John of Arkansas. Darles B. Kreakie (Sarge), 69, died May 8, 1998, after a lengthy illness. Mr. Kreakie served with the U. S. Marine Corps for over 22 years, and was a member of Ralph Huff Post 1062 and Eagles 1027. Surviving are his wife, Peggy; daughter, Darla Hoebeke of Anaheim, Calif.; sister, Wilda Volchko of Brunswick; and brother, Terry of Kent. William W. Krieg
BARBERTON -- William W. Krieg, 71, died May 13, 1998. Surviving are daughters, Shirley Laughbaum of Sterling and Yvonne Tobar of Bakersfield, Calif.; sister, Florence Miller of St. Louis, Mo.; and three grandchildren. His wife, Mary, died in 1972. Ann L. Kuharski, 81, died Thursday, May 7, 1998. She was born in Creekside Fulton Run, Pa., and was a waitress at Tailor Hotel, retiring in 1960. She was a member of Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses, Akron Central and Goodyear Heights Congregations. Miss Kuharski is survived by brother, John (Helen) Kuharski of Tulsa, Okla.; cousin, Mary Shemsky of Cleveland; nieces, Janice and Karen of Oklahoma; and many relatives in California and Pennsylvania. Funeral service will be held TODAY, 1 p.m. at the Kucko-Anthony-Kertesz Funeral Home, 95 W. Waterloo Rd., where the family will receive friends one hour prior to service. Andrew William Kulick
BARBERTON -- Andrew William Kulick, 88, died May 6, 1998, at his residence. He was born in Kipling, Ohio, and was a resident of Barberton since 1943. He was employed with the PPG Chemical Co. with 33 years service, retiring 24 years ago as a pipefitter's assistant. He was a member of SS. Cyril & Methodius Catholic Church, Barberton Eagles, Knights of Columbus 4028, Holy Name Society, and Magic City Democratic Club. He was a former Barberton Precinct committeeman, and was a pro-life advocate of the unborn. He is survived by wife, Angeline; sons, Dr. Andrew M. of Los Angeles, Calif., Dr. John of Rockford, Minn., William of Jacksonville, Fla., Raymond of Van Nuys, Calif., and Anthony of Leucadia, Calif.; daughters, Martha Kulick of Lorain, Mary Kulick of Pompano Beach, Fla., and Theresa Kulick of Akron; seven grandchildren; brothers, Paul and Mike, both of Akron; sisters, Katherine Tolbert of Cambridge, Ohio, and Ann Turnbull of Akron.
