Carol L. Adams
Carol L. Adams, 61, of Akron, died May 29, 1998, after a long battle with cancer. A native of Guernsey County, she had been an area resident most of her life. She retired from Bank One after many years service. She was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, its Altar and Rosary Society, and was a volunteer at Interval Brotherhood Home, Akron General Hospital, and Barberton Hospital. Preceded in death by her father, Loren Basford; and son, Doug, she is survived by husband, Bayard W. of Akron; son, Chuck Adams of Orlando, Fla.; grandson, Charlie; mother, Wilma Basford Cobb of Wadsworth; sister, Betty Basford of Marshallville; sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Pat and Keith Coultrap of Phoenix, Ariz.; many nieces and nephews. Friends may call Monday, 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m., at the Schlup-Pucak Funeral Chapel, Kenmore Boulevard at Eighth Street. Michael W. (Mickey) Adams
Michael W. (Mickey) Adams, 62, of Akron, died suddenly May 14. Mr. Adams was a lifelong resident of Akron, and a veteran of the Korean Conflict. He was employed at Acme Click Warehouse for 10 years, retiring in 1993. Previously, Mickey had spent 20 years at Kohn's Beverage. He was a member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church and the Jednota Club. His survivors include wife, Johinne B.; daughter, Valerie J. Pope; sons, Dan Kenna, Michael A. (Carolyn) Adams II, Matthew A. (Jane) Adams; mother, Mary Adams; sisters, Joanne Corall and Marian Marzick; seven grandchildren, one great-grandchild, and many, many friends. There will be no calling hours. A memorial mass will be held at 7 p.m. SATURDAY, May 23, 1998, at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church. Hazel B. Anderson
ARIZONA -- Hazel B. Anderson, born January 20, 1902, died May 15, 1998. Born in Akron, she resided in Arizona for 30 years. She was founder and part-owner of Westpoint Market, and a charter member of Sun City Country Club. She was preceded in death by husband, Harry Anderson; brother, Kenneth Sheffler; daughter, Beverly; grandson, Jack Anderson Jr.; and granddaughter, Tracey Porter. She is survived by sons, Jack and Harry, five grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild. Funeral service will Tuesday handled by the Lundberg Funeral Home in Youngtown, Ariz.

Annie S. Appel
Annie S. Appel passed away May 18, 1998. Services will be held 10 a.m. Friday, May 22, 1998 at the ADAMS MASON MEMORIAL CHAPEL (791 E. Market St.), where friends may call 7-9 p.m. TODAY. Rev. Clarence K. Arnold, 87, passed away at his residence May 20, 1998. He was retired from Goodyear Tire & Rubber Co. after 44 years of service. He was preceded in death by his son, Kenneth Clarence Arnold. Survivors include his wife of 69 years, Frances; daughters and son-in-law, Nancy Petit, Frances H. Arnold, Susan and David Richards; sons and daughters-in-law, Richard and Ann Arnold, William and Kathleen Arnold, Carleen Arnold; 15 grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren, several nieces and nephews. Elijah Vickers Bartee ``Booty Green,'' 45, passed away May 26, 1998, at Akron General Medical Center. Born in Barberton, he had lived in the Akron area. He is survived by sons, Michael Jones, Daniel and Anthony Mayfield; daughter, Chandler Hall; three grandchildren; mother, Louise Vickers; 10 brothers, 12 sisters, a host of other relatives and friends. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, June 2, 1998, at Stewart & Calhoun Funeral Home Chapel, with Rev. Earl Morrow officiating. Interment at Lakewood Cemetery. Louis Bartee
Louis Bartee, 73, departed from this earthly life May 18, 1998, at Rahway Hospital in Rahway, N. J. He was a member of the Rahway and Linden, N. J., communities for 30 years, and formerly lived in the Akron and Barberton area. He was a member of the Jersey Rod & Gun Club. Mr. Bartee is survived by sons, John Louis Scott of Linden, N. J., and Lewis John Ingol of Atlanta, Ga.; daughter, Florance Keys of Barberton; brother, Hendle Bartee of Rahway, N. J.; sisters, Rosie Holly and Morjarie Dunning, both of Akron; special friend and companion, Savannah Scott of Rahway, N.J.; 14 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Forrest C. Bartram
Forrest C. Bartram, 77, passed away at his home in Cocoa, Fla., on May 12, 1998, after a long illness. He was formerly a resident of Akron and Mogadore, and was retired from Goodyear Tire & Rubber Co. He is survived by his wife, Ida of Cocoa, Fla.; daughters, Linda (Carl) Glasgow of New Johnsonville, Tenn., and Margie (Bob) LeMaster of Dickson, Tenn.; sons, Bill (Donna) of Ft. Worth, Texas, and Gary (Janet) of Tallmadge; nine grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren. The funeral was held Friday, May 15, 1998, in Cocoa, Fla.

Frank Joseph Basile
Frank Joseph Basile, surrounded by his loving family, was received into the open arms of the Lord on May 14, 1998, after a long illness. Frank will be remembered by many, never knowing any strangers. He was always extending his hand and his smile to all those who entered his days, especially children. He liked to leave everyone with a laugh. A patriarch, Frank's family was always his number one priority, the reason he worked so many jobs for so many years. Displaying a strong work ethic, his career began at the young age of eight. He could be found peddling papers on the corner of Main and Market, close to his elementary and high school, St. Vincent's. After graduation, he went to work at Seiberling Tire for 34 years, which was interrupted only by a tour of duty with the Army during World War II. After his retirement, Frank started his own lawncare business, which he operated for another 10 years. His church was his second family. He was a long-time member of St. Augustine's and was currently a parishioner at St. Paul's, where he had been an usher for 20 years. A strong role model for his family, Frank will always be a part of them: wife of 26 years, Edna (Zumpano); son, Lou (Alice) Basile, and grandchildren, Maria (Kevin) Winski and great-grandson, Kevin; Michael (Tracy) Basile, Jeanine (Alan) Garry, and Andrea Basile; daughters, Mary (Bruce) Rice and grandchildren, Donald and Dorothy; Paulette (Stan) U-Rycki and grandchildren, Charity, Mia (Adrian) Spracklen, Trini, Zump, and Dan; Linda (Frank) Pichichero and grandchildren, Danielle, Michael, Paul and Nicholas; son, Ron (Joanne) Zumpano and grandchildren, Nicole, Joseph and Michele. He was preceded in death by devoted wife of 29 years, Irene (Severtis) Basile. Emma C. (Harrington) Bauer
Emma C. (Harrington) Bauer, 90, formerly of South Lincoln Street, Kent, died Friday, May 29, 1998, at Knox Community Hospital in Mount Vernon. She was born Sept. 25, 1907, in Akron, to Samuel and Emma (Ley) Harrington. She was a member of St. Patrick's Church. Survivors include her daughter, Marilyn (Donald) Testa of Fredericktown; grandchildren, Terry Testa of Lake George, Colo., Vincent Testa of Marengo, Michelle Krummen of Cincinnati, Michael Testa of Fredericktown, and Melanne of Fredericktown; five great-grandchildren; and sister, Marie Stonemetz of Stow. She was preceded in death by her husband, Herman R. Bauer, on April 13, 1993; and by brother, Edward Harrington. Calling hours will be held 7 to 9 p.m. Monday at the Bissler & Sons Funeral Home. Alta M. Blankenship
Alta M. Blankenhip, 79, of Akron, went home to be with the Lord May 28, 1998. Born in Huntingdon, Tenn., she lived in the Akron area most of her life. She retired from the M. O'Neil Company after 37 years service, was a lifetime member of the Akron Baptist Temple, and a member of the Order of the Eastern Star. Preceded in death by husband, Finis David; sisters, Leola and Cola; and brother, Luke; she is survived by son, Tim Blankenship of Akron; daughter, Anna Howard of Chicago, Ill.; grandsons, Chad, Lane, and Heath Howard; also survived by special friends, Judy Riffle and Khan. She will be missed by many loving relatives and friends. Calling hours will be Friday, 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m., and Saturday, 10 to 11 a.m., at Schermesser Funeral Home, 1446 S. Raymond A. Bolden
Raymond A. Bolden, 89, passed away May 28, 1998. Born in Finzel, Md., he lived in the Akron area most of his life, and served as a medic in the U.S. Army during World War II. Mr. Bolden was employed as a barber for 38 years, retiring in 1973. He was a member of Oak Hill Presbyterian Church, and had been singing in church choirs since he was 16 years old. Preceded in death by his parents, Albert and Rebecca Bolden; and brothers, Dallas, Lester, and Leonard; he is survived by his wife of 59 years, Gertrude; son and daughter-in-law, Gary and Sue of Jackson Township; daughter and son-in-law, Jill and James Sheffield of Lancaster, Ohio; seven grandchildren; one great-grandchild; brother, Charles of Wooster; and sister, June Millhoff of Florida. Funeral services will be Monday, 2 p.m., at the Hopkins Lawver Funeral Home,547 Canton Rd., Akron, with Pastors David Frees and Cathleen Arble officiating. Services will conclude at the funeral home, with private burial at Hillside Memorial Park. Bettie L. Boltz
Bettie L. Boltz, 76, of Pompano Beach, Fla., went to be the Lord on May 21, 1998. She was a 1939 graduate of Cuyahoga Falls High School. She had been employed by Goodyear. She was a member of Bath United Church of Christ and its choir, and the First Presbyterian Church of Pompano Beach and its Sanctuary Guild, choir and bell choir, and often accompained her family on the piano. She was a devoted and loving wife, mother, grandmother, aunt, sister, cousin, and friend, and took great joy in family events and gatherings. She served as a volunteer at Seiberling Rehab Center in Akron and at the North Broward Auxiliary Hospital in Pompano Beach. Preceded in death by her parents, J. B. and Lucile Leonard; and husband, Stanley, she is survived by children, Bonnie of Pompano Beach, Roger (Yvonne) of Dallas, Texas; sister, Mary McCurdy of Silver Lake; brother-in-law, John (Dorothy) of Polondo West, Fla.; sister-in-law, Fern Greenamyer of Silver Lake; grandchildren, Aimee (Greg) Wasinski of Bedford, Ohio, Monique of Euclid, Ohio, and Jamin Rhodes of Dallas, Texas; and many beloved nieces, nephews, and cousins. Cremation has taken place and a memorial service will be held June 6 at 1 p.m. at the chapel at Rose Hill Burial Park. Memorials may be made to the A.S.P. Regina Baremore Bonstedt
Regina Baremore ``Jerrie'' Bonstedt, 72, of Akron, died May 7 at Hospice of Visiting Nurse. Preceded in death by sister, Helen Henry, she is survived by her husband, William S. Bonstedt; and sister, Mary (David) Enochs of Franklin, Ohio. A memorial service will be held at 1:30 p.m. MONDAY, MAY 18, at the Episcopal Church of Our Saviour, with Fr. Michael Dudley officiating. Paul Book
Paul Book, 63, passed away May 20, 1998. He was born Oct. 23, 1934, in Sciotoville, Ohio. Mr. Book served with the U. S. Marine Corps during the Korean War. He was a lifetime member of D.A.V. and a member of the V.F.W. Post 1089. He also loved to garden and was an avid fan of the Dallas Cowboys. He was preceded in death by his mother, father, four sisters, and three brothers. He is survived by his devoted wife, Jane; son, Randy; grandchildren, Chad and Sarah; son, Gary; grandchildren, Ryan and Robert; brothers, James Book of Wadsworth and Thomas Book of Kentucky. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, May 23, at Cox Funeral Home, 7984 Ridge Rd. (state Route 94). Visitation will be Friday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home. Lawrence W. Brooks
UNIONTOWN -- Lawrence W. Brooks, 57, went home to be with the Lord on May 29, 1998, after a short illness. Born in Brilliant, Ohio, Mr. Brooks lived most of his life in the Akron area, and was employed as an engineer with the Goodyear Tire & Rubber Co. in the Tire Technology Division for 34 years. He was a member of Grace United Church of Christ, where he served as treasurer, deacon, and Sunday School teacher, and was a member of the Goodyear 25-Year Club and Ohio Genealogy Society. Preceded in death by his father, Raymond, in 1986, he is survived by his wife of 30 years, Karen (Westfall); son, Steven and fiancee, Amy Graber, of Uniontown; daughter and son-in-law, Kathryn and Clinton Young Jr. of Negley, Ohio; granddaughter, Rebecca Young of Negley, Ohio; mother, Wilma Brooks of Brilliant, Ohio; sister and brother-in-law, Elaine and Malcolm Fellows of Brilliant, Ohio; and several nieces and nephews. Maryellen Brown
Mrs. Maryellen Brown, age 83, of Lansing, Mich. died at Sparrow Hospital, Lansing, on Saturday, May 16, 1998 of pneumonia. She was born July 31, 1915 in Milton, Pa., a daughter of Azariah and Leota (Cooley) Koontz. She resided in the Canfield, Austintown, and Lake Milton area from 1965 to 1973. She was a homemaker. She served as a Lieutenant in the U.S. Army Nurses Corp. during World War II in the European Theatre. She wrote the manual for nursing surgical procedures for the 41st Evacuation Hospital Unit where she was chief nurse during her military service. She was a member of Lake Milton Presbyterian Church. Survivors include husband, John W. Brown, Jr., whom she married Oct. 25, 1946; children, Gregory T. Brown of Austintown, Ohio and Mrs. Ruth Burke of Mogadore, Ohio; sisters, Mrs. Ruth Macara of Provincetown, Mass., Mrs. Edith Horsch of Fullerton, Calif. and Mrs. Neata Bartley of Export, Pa.; brothers, Paul Koontz of Greensburg, Pa., John F. Koontz of Saltsburg, Pa. and Richard M. Koontz of New Alexandria Pa.; and three grandchildren. She was predeceased by six brothers, David, Glenn, Bertrand, James, Malcolm, and Horace Koontz. Infant Seth Thompson Brown, infant son of Richard Allen (Ilka) Brown, went home to be with the Lord on May 16, 1998. Lilburn O. Burchett, 77, passed away May 18, 1998, after a long illness. Mr. Burchett lived in the Akron area most of his life, and was stationed in Iceland during World War II, serving in the U. S. Army Artillery. He was employed in machine repair all of his life. He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Betty; daughter, Jacqueline J. Nowels of Akron; son and daughter-in-law, Charles A. and Bonnie Burchett of Suffield; three grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren. Lee K. Burkett, 88, passed away in Pinellas Park, Fla., on Sunday, May 17, 1998. He was born in Punxsutawney, Pa., and was a general foreman for substation construction at Ohio Edison for 40 years, retiring in 1974, when he moved to Florida. He was survived by sons, James and Gerald; daughter, Donna McEwan; brother, Ray; sisters, Ethel Gray and Dorothy Neal; five grandchildren, five great-grandchildren. Funeral services Wednesday, 10:30 a.m., at Blount Curry and Roel Memorial Park Chapel in St. Petersburg.

Melvin R. Burton Sr.
Melvin R. Burton Sr. departed from this earthly life on May 15, 1998, at St. Thomas Medical Center. He was a beloved member of the Akron community all his life, where he was well known for his talents as a barber for over 30 years, working as Nesbitt Barber Shop.
