Glenna Rosalie ``Rose'' Field (nee Stemple)
CORTLAND -- Mrs. Glenna Rosalie ``Rose'' Field (nee Stemple), 77, of Cortland, Ohio died Friday, May 15, 1998 at her residence, following an extended illness. She was born May 18, 1920 in Preston County, W. Va., daughter of the late Ernest Stemple and the late Dovie Robinson. A Trumbull County resident most of her life, she was a homemaker and a well-known seamstress, especially sewing/quilting. She was preceded in death on June 18, 1988 by her husband, Norman J. Field, whom she had married August 21, 1937. Survivors include three daughters, Mrs. Jack (Margaret) Hilditch of Stow, Ohio, Mrs. Arlene Buckner of Niles, Ohio, and Mrs. Charles (Debbie) Hetrick, with whom she made her home; eight grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren and one great-great-granddaughter; one brother, James Stemple of Morgantown, W. Va. Memorial service Monday, May 18, 1998, 8 p.m. at Robert H. Roberts-Clark Memorial Home, 180 Garfield Dr. N.E., Warren. John E. Filson
STOW -- John E. Filson, 72, died May 15, 1998. Born in Oil City, Pa., he had lived in Stow since 1961, retired as an accountant from B.F.Goodrich in 1984 with 33 years service and was an Army Air Corps veteran of World War II. Mr. Filson was a member of Petrolia, Pennsylvania Lodge 363 F&AM, A.A.S.R.-Valley of Coudersport, Pennsylvania, Tadmor Temple Shrine and Yusef Khan Grotto. He is survived by wife, Nancy; daughters, Rebecca Filson of Liberty, Ohio, Paula Filson of Monroeville, Pa.; son, Stephen of Stow and his special friend, Robin Hayden; grandchildren, Danyelle, Taylor and Katelyn; twin sister and brother-in-law, Jean and William Ross of Oil City, Pa.; sister and brother-in-law, Rhea and William Clouse of San Antonio, Tex.; several nieces and nephews; and his dog, Charlie. Timothy D. Finnin
Timothy D. Finnin, 84 years, passed away May 14, 1998. Mr. Finnin was born in Butler, Pa., and had been a Canton resident since 1950. He served in World War II and his memberships included, D.A.V., Commanders Club, AARP, and Croatian Club 514. He was a former iron worker and foundry employee, retiring from United Engineering in 1976. Preceded in death by his brother, William, he leaves his wife, Mary (Vencel); son and daughter-in-law, Tim and Melinda; granddaughters, April and Amber of Uniontown; sisters, Helen Dettling and Dorothy Akins, both of Akron; nieces and nephews. There will be no calling hours. Cremation has taken place. A memorial mass for Mr. Finnin will take place Monday, 9:30 a.m. at St. Paul's Catholic Church, 1459 Superior Ave. N.E., CANTON, OHIO 44705. Kevin H. Frease
Kevin H. Frease, 37, of Columbia, S. C., formerly of Akron, died May 18, 1998, at the Richland Memorial Cancer Center in Columbia. Kevin was a graduate of Firestone High School, attended the University of Kentucky, and was a graduate of Akron University, where he received his B.A. and M.B.A. He worked in Columbia, S. C., for Policy Management Systems Corp. Kevin was a member of Woodland United Methodist Church and served as chairman of the board of trustees. He is survived by parents, Hal and Connie Frease of Akron; sister and brother-in-law, Kelley and David Bolas of Medina; nieces, Kathryn Elizabeth and Mary-Margaret Ann Bolas; aunts and uncles, Peggy and Jim Frease of Johnson City, Tenn., Margaret and Ed Francis of Anaheim, Calif., Phyllis Mazzota of Canton; and many cousins. Kenny L. Freeman
Kenny L. Freeman, 39, died unexpectedly May 17,1998. Born in Akron, he had been a life resident of the area. He was employed by the Albrecht Grocery Co. An avid fisherman, he was a loving father, brother, uncle, and a friend to everyone. He is survived by his son, Kenneth James-Paul; daughter, Katie Lee-Marie; special friend, Vickie Huston; brothers, Paul and Jimmy; sisters, Roxanna and Diann; nieces, Charlotte, Marie, Mijee, and Tracey; and nephew, Al. A memorial service will be held 6:30 P.M. FRIDAY at the Billow FALLS Chapel, corner of 23rd and Falls Ave., with Mr. Wyatt Patterson officiating. Paul J. Gadosik Jr.
NORTON -- Paul Joseph Gadosik Jr., 84, died May 20, 1998, at Intensiva Hospital of Akron in Barberton. He was born in Barberton and was a life resident of the Barberton-Norton area. He was employed with the former Seiberling Tire & Rubber Co. with 25 years of service, and was also employed with the Norton School System with 10 years service, retiring 19 years ago. He was a member of St. Andrew the Apostle Catholic Church in Norton, a member of the Knights of Columbus 1617, Holy Name Society, and Woodmen of the World. He was preceded in death by son, Thomas, and is survived by wife, Delores; son, Paul III of Doylestown; daughter, Nancy (Ronald) West of Wadsworth; daughter-in-law, Debbie Gadosik of Doylestown; seven grandchildren and four great-grandchildren; and brother, Andrew of Parma. LAKE TOWNSHIP -- Charles L. Gallagher, 59, passed away May 15, 1998, after a long illness. Born in Akron, Mr. Gallagher lived most of his life in Stark County and was a member of Marlboro Christian Church where he was a deacon. He was an avid golfer and enjoyed the Cleveland Indians. He was a loving husband, son, father, and grandfather and will be sadly missed. Preceded in death by his father, Joseph, he is survived by his wife of 39 years, Sandy; sons and daughters-in-law, Paul (Patty) Gallagher of England, and David (Beth) Gallagher of Canton; daughters and sons-in-law, Laura (John) Marchand of Akron and Tracy (Bruce) Vetter of Manchester; grandchildren, Dana, Kara, and Adam Gallagher, all of England, April and Drew Marchand of Akron, Kelly, Jessica, Chelsea, and Amy Vetter of Manchester, and Sean and Megan Gallagher of Canton; and mother, Harriett Gallagher of Akron. Rella Jean (Edwards) Gandee
Rella Jean (Edwards) Gandee, 66, went to be with the Lord at 5:20 p.m. May 20, 1998, after a short battle with cancer. She was born April 9, 1932, in Akron, and lived most of her life in the area, recently moving back from Tennessee. In Tennessee, Mrs. Gandee had retired from Dr. Robert C. Diezd'Aux's office after many years service. Rella also was a graduate of the old South High School and the Howard Nichols School of Nursing, and was an LPN. She is survived by her husband of 47 years, Bradley R.; daughters, Lydia J. (Mike) Gaskins of Akron, Bonnie Jean Gandee of Jacksonville, Fla., and Mary Lee Gandee of Cuyahoga Falls; grandchildren, Gabriel, Nina, Eric, and Bradley Gaskins; sister-in-law, Barbara Lea Kahoun; several nieces and nephews; special cousins, Warren and Lois (Smith) Sager and family; special friends, George and Norma (Hicks) Gajos, Fabian and Bea (Wall) Schadle; and a host of other friends and loved ones. Mrs. Frances V. Gary passed on to her heavenly home on May 25, 1998, at Hospice Care Facility. Audrey E. Gearhart
Audrey E. Gearhart, 90, of Akron, died Thursday evening at Cuyahoga Falls Hospital. Born May 22, 1908, in Ritchie County, W. Va., daughter of the late Minor and Rebecca Ingram McVay, she was a member of Trinity United Church of Christ. She is survived by husband, Andrew C.; and son, Jerry D. Gearhart, both of Akron. She was preceded in death by brothers and one sister. Funeral services at 11 a.m. Saturday at Cawley & Peoples Funeral Home, 408 Front St., Marietta, Ohio, with burial at East Lawn Memorial Park. Rocco Gennett
Rocco Gennett, 83, of Canton, passed away at Mercy Medical Center after an apparent heart attack. Rocco was a lifelong resident of Canton. He was a member of Our Lady of Peace Catholic Church. He was a retired employee of the Timken Co., where he was employed for 43 years. He served in the CCC Camp in California. He was a former Canton City horseshoe champ and a longtime McKinley sports fan. His parents were the late Joseph and Anna Gennett. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his loving wife, Gabriela, who passed away Nov. 11, 1987; brothers, Ben Gennett, Joe DePello, and Tony DePello; sisters, Rae Meffie, Minnie Piccari, Rose Cerretta, and Angeline Volpe. He is survived by daughters and sons-in-law, Mary Susan and Frank Maragas of Canton, and Carol and Eugene Puglia of Akron; sisters and brothers-in-law, Theresa Hutton, Annie and Palmer LaRocco, Laura and Raymond Smith, and Jeanette Herdlicka, all of Canton; sisters-in-law, Linda D'Aurora of Canton, and Elve and Louie Bonaparte; grandchildren and their spouses, John and Lori Puglia, Anthony Puglia, Rocco Maragas, and Susan and Bill Hagey; great-grandchildren, Jonathan and Sammie Puglia. Edward Carl Gifford Jr.
Edward Carl Gifford Jr., born Oct. 25, 1927, died May 19, 1998. Ed was a graduate of St. Vincent High School, Class of 1946. He served in the United States Air Corps in France from 1951 to 1955. He attended the University of Akron. From 1966 to the present, he was a member of the Professional Artist League of New York, Whiskey Painters of America, and the Akron Society of Artists. Preceded in death by his mother and father, Eva (Dettling) and Edward Carl Gifford Sr.; and sister, Mary Durkee, he is survived by his wife, Odette M. Gifford (Rudelli), originally of Nancy, France; son, Edward C. Gifford, III; daughter-in-law, Cheryl Gifford; grandchildren, James Edward Gifford and John Edward Gifford, all of Hartville; brother and sister-in-law, Jim and Pat Gifford of Akron; nieces and nephews, and many grand-nieces and -nephews. Helen M. Giudici
Helen M. Giudici, 75, of 6211 First Ave., Kent, died at 12:30 p.m. Thursday, May 28, at Akron City Hospital. She was born Oct. 4, 1922, in Youngstown, to Louis and Helen Peck Lengyel. She graduated from Youngstown State University in 1974 with a degree in nursing, and had worked as a registered nurse at Park Vista Retirement Community in Youngstown. She was a member of Our Lady of Hungary in Youngstown, Mahoning Valley Campfire Girls for 25 years, and Republic-Avon Neighborhood Reunion Committee. She moved from Youngstown to California in 1977; then moved to Kent in 1996. She was preceded in death by her parents, by brother, Louis Lengyel; and on Jan. 27, 1997, by husband, Ermet Giudici, whom she married May 29, 1945. She is survived by son, Allen Giudici of Austintown; daughters, Mrs. Judy Gibson of Kent, Mrs. Linda Crim of Winter Park, Fla., Mrs. Ellen Sue Morris of Apple Valley, Calif.; sister, Mrs. Violet Esker of Austintown; nine grandchildren, two great-grandchildren. Stella M. Glass
Stella M. Glass, 88, who resided with her daughter, Sandra Bowers, at 1007 E. Bogart Rd., Sandusky, died Monday morning, May 11, 1998, at the Firelands Community Hospital, following a brief illness. She was born March 24, 1910, in Irwin, Ohio, and was employed by the M. O'Neil Co., Goodyear Aircraft Co., and Dr. M. Bianco, all in Akron. She moved to Sandusky after her retirement in 1971, and was a member of the People's Church in Sandusky. She is survived by daughter, Sandra (Steffenhagen) Bowers of Sandusky; son, William I. Schwartz of Tucson, Ariz.; three grandchildren, three great-grandchildren; sisters, Lois E. Schaffer of Marshallville and Margaret P. Ayers of Stow; nieces, nephews, and other relatives. She was preceded in death by her parents, Charles and Martha (Mansfield) Jenkins; granddaughter, Tamara Britt; sister, Edna E. Purvis; and brothers, Walter M. and Charles N. Jenkins. Muriel Agnes Casey Goddard
CALIFORNIA -- Muriel Agnes Casey Goddard, 84, died Friday, May 8, in Santa Cruz, Calif. A native of Akron, Mrs. Goddard had lived in the Florida and Chicago areas, moving to Santa Cruz two years ago to live near her family. Mrs. Goddard was a devoted wife and mother. She enjoyed reading, current events, and politics. She volunteered many hours working at school, hospital, and church events. She is survived by her daughter-in-law, Jane Goddard; and grandchildren, Patrick and Megan Goddard, all of Aptos, Calif. She was preceded in death by her husband, Frank C. Goddard, a former photographer for the Akron Beacon Journal and General Tire, in 1964; and sons, Dr. Terrence P. Goddard in 1989 and Timothy M. Goddard in 1994. Services were private.

Richard L. Goldsmith
Richard L. Goldsmith, 82, died May 14, 1998. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Edna; and his brother, Robert. He is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Dick and Linda Goldsmith; grandchildren, Dr. Jennifer Nash (Jason), Jill and Rick of Fairlawn; daughter, Diane Goldsmith of San Antonio, Texas; son and daughter-in-law, Dennis and Tina Goldsmith; grandchildren, Aaron, Meagan, and Emily of Canton, Mich.; and daughter and son-in-law, Dede and Steve Moreck; grandchildren, Keith and Kristin of Eugene, Ore. Dick was president of the J. Koch Co., a quality men's clothing store, and operated it with his brother, Robert, until it was sold in 1972. Born in Akron, he attended Akron University, and worked as a warehouse foreman at B. F. Goodrich before graduating from Kent State University in 1938. He served in the Army Air Corps in World War II. After the war, he worked at Koch's and became an active member of Rotary, the Akron Merchants Association, Akron City Club, and the Silver Lake Country Club. While he could not reconcile himself to life's injustices, he did enjoy life to the fullest as an avid golfer and poker and bridge player, and truly appreciated being around his friends and family. There will be no calling hours or open services. He directs you to enjoy and appreciate your life. Ethel A. Goodall (Ely)
CUYAHOGA FALLS -- Ethel A. Goodall (Ely), 96, died May 29, 1998. Mrs. Goodall was born in Kemper County, Miss., had resided in Cuyahoga Falls since 1992, and was a longtime resident of Akron. She retired in 1964 as an inspector for the B. F. Goodrich Co. with 35 years service. She was preceded in death by her husbands, Henry Ely and Elmer Goodall, and is survived by her daughter, Margaret E. Ely of Akron; brother, Warren Evans of Mississippi; sister, Eunice Scheffler of Minnesota; several nieces and nephews, including Faye Blair of Akron. Jane M. Green, 81 years, of Akron, died May 17, 1998 at her residence after a short illness. Born in Akron, she was an area resident most of her life. Jane was a graduate of St. Vincent High School, a former member of St. Vincent Church and presently a member of St. Matthews Church. She and her late husband, F. G. (Joe) Green were former owners of Maca Swim Park in Tallmadge. Survivors include her daughters and their spouses, Lynne and John Loewing of Shakopee, Minn., Nancy Hiner of Portage Lakes, Valerie Taylor of Greenville, S.C., and Mary Ellen and Tim Neitz of Cuyahoga Falls; sister, Mary Murty of Akron; 10 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. Ira E. Griner
WADSWORTH -- Ira E. Griner, 70, died Friday, May 29, 1998, at his residence, after a lengthy illness. Mr. Griner was born in Wadsworth, where he was a lifelong resident. He was a U. S. veteran, serving during World War II and previously in the Merchant Marines. He was employed in the maintenance department at PCA, retiring in 1990 with 42 years service. He was a member of American Legion Post 170, Wadsworth Moose 2070, and Wadsworth Eagles 2117. Mr. Griner is survived by sons, Daniel and Larry; daughters and sons-in-law, Pamela and Joseph Cohn, Lisa and Kenny McCaman, all of Wadsworth; six grandchildren, three great-grandchildren; mother, Freida Griner of Wadsworth; sister, Gerry Morgan of Barberton. A memorial service for James W. Grow, 86, of Florida, formerly of Mogadore, who passed away March 7, 1998, will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, May 23, 1998, at Springfield Church of the Brethren, 3500 Albrecht Ave., Akron.

Mildred ``Peg'' Gump
Mildred Gump, 89, passed away Saturday, May 16, 1998. She was born in Richwood, W. Va., but had lived most of her life in Akron. She attended Central High School and the University of Akron and was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Akron. Mrs. Gump had at one time been a bookkeeper for Buckeye Ford. She was preceded in death by her husband, Roy; sisters, Verina and Ruth; brother, George. She is survived by sons and daughters-in-law, Brian and Sue of Tallmadge, Gary and Jeanne of Cuyahoga Falls; sister, Evelyn Ryerson of Wayne, N.J.; grandchildren, Kevin, Gregg, Rick, Valeria and Midge. Private funeral service will be held in the Chapel at Crown Hill Cemetery at the convenience of the family. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to First United Methodist Church of Akron, 263 E. Patricia Ann Guzzetta
Patricia Ann Guzzetta, 69, died May 13 at her home in Las Cruces, N. M. She was a member of First Congregational Church of Akron and Las Cruces First Church of the Nazarene. She attended the University of Akron and volunteered at Akron City Hospital, and also volunteered at Memorial Medical Center in Las Cruces. She was a member of the Women's Faculty Committee of the University of Akron and also New Mexico State University. She is survived by husband, Dr. Dominic J. Guzzetta; daughter, Becky Dougherty of Denver, Colo.; sons, David Hunsicker of Douthan, Ala., and Britt Cherry of Akron; daughter, Mindy Miller of Denver, Colo.; eight grandchildren; and sister, Betty Lou Bostick of Mercer Island, Wash. Services will be held at 1 p.m. TUESDAY at the Billow FAIRLAWN Chapel, 85 N. Miller Rd., with Rev. Dwight E. Mexcur officiating. Interment at Rose Hill Burial Park. Friends may call at the funeral home one hour before the service.
