Buell M. Davidson
Buell M. Davidson, 91, of Richfield, died June 9, 1998, in Aurora. He was the beloved husband of the late Marie (nee Delaney) for 63 years. They lived most of their lives in Richfield, where they both were very active in the Richfield United Church of Christ. Buell was a respected builder of custom homes. He was Richfield Village's first council president and a 37-year charter member of the Richfield Fire Department. He was also a charter member of the Bath-Richfield Kiwanis Club. He was the dear father of Jean (Robert, deceased) Lauster of Largo, Fla., Mary Anne (Hugh) Groth of Richfield, Joanne of Bainbridge, and James (Venny) of Bainbridge; grandfather of Debbie Lauster (deceased), Shirley Lauster, Polly (Michael) Wheeler, Ted (Maria) Groth, Sally (John) Gill, Jeff Groth, and Buell, Sam, and Ben Davidson; great-grandfather of four; brother of Harold (Marian), Roberta (Lewis) Fuller, and the following deceased: Francis (Ruth), William (Josephine), Samuel (Ann), Donald (Wilma), and Mary (Carneal) Smith. Helen DeCheco
Helen DeCheco, 75, of Firestone Park, died June 8, 1998. Mrs. DeCheco was a lifelong Akron resident who graduated from Garfield High School. She formerly worked at the Rempel Toy Co., and retired with 20 years service in 1988 from the Fred Arbogast Co. Preceded in death by her husband, Thomas J.; and her brother, Michael Oleniak, she leaves her sons and daughters-in-law, John T. (Jack) and Shirley DeCheco, Thomas O. (Todd), and Jackie DeCheco; grandchildren, Nathan and Max; sisters, Ann Oleniak, Mary Valatka, Rose Mayer, and Pauline Kalbus. There will be no calling hours. Private inurnment at Holy Cross Cemetery. The family suggests memorials to the Chapel Hill Christian School (South Campus) or the Visiting Nurse Hospice Program. Mario G. DelPozzo
Mario G. DelPozzo died of cancer at age 76. He was born in Gallitzin, Pa. He was preceded in death by parents, Nicolas and Anna; brother, David. He is survived by wife, Pauline; sons and daughters-in-law, David and Ann, Ron and Corina; daughters and sons-in-law, Diane and Michael Huskisson, Regina and John Lindeman; stepchildren, Carolyn and Kathy Stefano, Linda (Richard) Seymour; grandchildren, Matt, Cherie, Michael, Brittney, Michael Brandon, Brianna, Troy, Derek; great-grandson, Justin. He served in the Lighter Than Air Group in the Navy during World War II. He worked at Goodyear Aerospace for 42 years, and was the past president of the Cuyahoga Falls Senior Travel Club. His local club affiliations were Castel di Sangro and the Goodyear Retirees. Mario found joy for the past 10 years volunteering for the Akron-Canton Food Bank and delivering for Mobile Meals. He always kept busy, and loved to travel. Mass of the Christian Burial will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church. Interment at Northlawn Memorial Park. Calling hours will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Hennessy-Bagnoli Funeral Home, 936 N. Main St., Akron, with a 7:30 p.m. wake service. Marjorie B. Demboski
Marjorie B. Demboski, 73, passed away June 6, 1998 at Summit Villa Nursing Home. She was born August 11, 1924, the daughter of Valentine and Barbara Torok. She is survived by her daughters and sons-in-law, Barbara and Jeffrey Jordan, and Patricia and Jeffrey Unger; sons and daughters-in-law, Thomas and Robin Demboski, and Daniel and Jennifer Demboski; and nine grandchildren. John J. Deskovich, Sr.
John J. Deskovich, Sr., 82, died Saturday, June 13, 1998. A native of Nanty Glow, Pa., Mr. Deskovich had worked as an electrician in the coal mines and later for the Akron Beacon Journal, where he retired after 25 years of service. He belonged to St. John the Baptist parish. His survivors include wife of 63 years, Ann (nee Morris); daughters, Sophie Phillips and Carol (Ron) Krosnick, both of Akron; sons, John Jr. (Sandy) of Green and Robert (Mary) of Akron; brother, Joe Deskovich of Chicago; nine grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren. Sara A. (Sisco) Dillworth
UNIONTOWN -- Sara A. (Sisco) Dillworth, 64, passed away June 12, 1998. Born in Akron, she was a life resident of the area. Mrs. Dillworth was employed as a cafeteria worker for the Springfield School District for 20 years, retiring in 1995, and also worked for Boebinger/Realty One. She was a member of Brown Street Church of Christ. Preceded in death by her parents, Edward and Thelma Sisco; and sister, Jane Brown, she is survived by her husband, Reginald ``Dink''; sons and daughters-in-law, Lee and Margie of Uniontown, Craig and Cindy of Baltimore, Md.; daughter and son-in-law, Regina and Paul Mesko of Uniontown; and granddaughters, Kelly, Stacey, and Melissa Mesko, and Nichole, Brooke, and Leah Dillworth. CUYAHOGA FALLS -- Lois F. Dixon, 69, beloved wife for 47 years of Robert, passed away Tuesday, June 9, 1998. She was born Feb. 6, 1929, in Akron, the daughter of William and Doris (Reed) Shaw. Mrs. Dixon enjoyed the 10 years she spent in Avon sales. Besides her husband, Robert, she is survived by sons and daughters-in-law, Dennis and Bonnie of Akron, David and Lorene of Arizona; grandsons, Steven and Daniel; sisters, Doris (Tom) Phelps of Akron, Helen Garstenslager of Cuyahoga Falls; brothers, William (Beatrice) Shaw of Medina; and a host of other relatives and friends. A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at Northminster Presbyterian Church USA, 104 W. Portage Trail Ext., Akron, with Pastor Joseph W. Atkins Jr. officiating. William (Billy) Dobbins
William (Billy) Dobbins, 67, of Akron, died June 3, 1998. Billy was a life long Akron resident. He devoted his life to service to others by volunteering for local causes including Civic Theater, Akron University Marching Band, Soap Box Derby, March of Dimes, St. Bernard's Catholic Church and Hunger Center, and most recently, Childrens Hospital ``Kids Are Number 1 Run.'' His caring concern will be sadly missed by all who knew him. Preceded in death by his parents, William and Sarah, Billy leaves his cousins and a host of friends in the downtown community, including Jack Deem. Mass of Christian Burial will be 10 a.m. Monday at St. Bernard's Catholic Church, where friends may call from 9 a.m. until service time. Interment at Rose Hill Burial Park. Idalee M. Doyle
Idalee M. Doyle, 76, of Tallmadge, went to be with the Lord Friday, June 12, 1998, at Cuyahoga Falls General. She was born Feb. 7, 1922, in Logansport, Ind., the daughter of Roman and Thelma Hoover. Survivors include her daughter and son-in-law, Nancy and Gary Grissett; sons and daughter-in-law, Howard and Jane Sayre, and Tom (Kris Swistak) Doyle; sisters, Dorothy Klingelheber, Juanita Kirkbridge, Marilyn Matics, Wilma Jean Toney, and Betty Brown; brothers, Eldon Hoover, Wilbur ``June'' Hoover, Donald Hoover, Ronald Hoover; six grandchildren, 10 great-grandchldren; several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husbnad, Thomas Doyle and by brothers, Charles and James Hoover. Friends may call Tuesday from 5 to 8 p.m. at FARLEY FUNERAL HOME, 131 N. George Nick Dragich
George Nick Dragich, 71, of Mantua, died Tuesday, June 2, 1998. Survived by his wife, Marilyn Rae Schuman (married since 1954), and beloved by the Schuman families, he is also survived by sons, George Nick Dragich of Mantua, Michael Carl of Ft. Myers, Fla.; sisters, Elizabeth Metela and Stella Sharp, both of Pittsburgh, Pa., Cathy Liss of Florida, Martha Ann Rains of Austintown; brothers, Melvin of Northfield, Peter and Alexander of South Carolina, Martin of Mantua; grandchild, David William Gadomski. He was preceded in death by brothers, Michael and Louis. Carla Jean Dugger
Carla Jean Dugger, 41, of Akron, died June 1, 1998. Mrs. Dugger was born in Akron, and was a lifelong area resident who graduated from Manchester High School. For the past eight years she had been employed as a relief inspector at the Empire Corp. She is survived by her husband, Michael; daughter, Roseanne at home; sons, Michael Jr. of Akron, Derrick at home; father, William Rowh of Barberton; sisters, Linda of Kentucky, Jackie of Georgia, and Debbie of California. Calling hours Friday, 1 to 4 p.m., and Saturday from 10 to 11 a.m., at the Dunn-Quigley, Ciriello & Carr Funeral Home, 811 Grant St., Akron, where Rev. Oliver ``Ollie'' Durrant
Oliver Durrant, 80, died Tuesday, June 2, at the VNS Hospice of Fairlawn. Mr. Durrant was a mechanical engineer at the Babcock & Wilcox Co. for 42 years. He was born in Chicago, graduated from Morgan Park High School in 1935, and graduated from the University of Illinois with a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering in 1939. From 1943 to 1946, he served in the U. S. Naval Reserve as an engineering officer on the U.S.S. Bearss. He was part of the Allied Occupation Forces in Japan immediately after the surrender in August 1945. Mr. Durrant was listed as inventor on numerous patents, and did pioneering work in mechanical engineering on the first nuclear submarines. He also helped design the nuclear propulsion system for the N.S. Savannah. He was past president of the Greater Akron Metropolitan Ministries and an active volunteer for Habitat for Humanity. Oliver Durrant enjoyed golf, tennis, travel, and listening to the Cleveland Orchestra at Blossom Music Center. Mr. Durrant was a faithful member of the Bath United Church of Christ and served in numerous capacities. He was voted Bath Church Man of the Year in 1988. He leaves behind his wife, Shirley, of 48 years; son, Gary Durrant in Anniston, Ala.; daughter, Lynda Lemmon, son-in-law, Wesley Lemmon, and grandson, Jonathan Lemmon of Bath; son, Mark Durrant, daughter-in-law, Leslie Durrant, and granddaughters, Allegra, Diana, and Rachel of Cadillac, Mich.; and daughter, Martha Simonsen, son-in-law, Dale Simonsen, and granddaughters, Starr and Sara Simonsen of Lahaina, Hawaii. A memorial service will be held at Bath United Church of Christ, 3980 W. Andy Joseph Dyak
Andy Joseph Dyak, 76, went home to be with the Lord on Sunday evening, June 7, 1998. Mr. Dyak was a supervisor in accounting at the Firestone Tire & Rubber Co., retiring after 40 years service. He taught Sunday School, was a trustee, past deacon, and past chairman of the board at Highview Avenue Baptist Church. He was also treasurer and member of the board for Camp Patmos of Kelly's Island, past treasurer and vice chairman for Youth for Christ, and founder and head of Baptist Men's Fellowship. He is survived by his loving wife of 47 years, Betty; brother, Joseph (Irene) Dyak of Columbus; sister, Helen (Arnold) File of Arizona; brother-in-law, Dr. James (Esther) Gabhart of Indiana; and numerous nieces and nephews who loved him dearly. Services will be held at 1 p.m. Friday, June 12, at Highview Avenue Baptist Church, 1822 Highview Ave., where friends may call one hour prior to service time, Rev.
