Patricia Ann Gardner
MEDINA -- Patricia Ann Gardner, 61, passed away June 5, 1998. She was a member of the First Christian Church and enjoyed participating in the Medina Special Olympics. She worked in the Assembly Dept. of the Medina County Sheltered Workshop. She is survived by her mother, Geraldine Gardner Schreiber of Medina; sisters, Ruth Hawker of Medina and Jeraldine Hinkel of Rittman; brother, William Gardner of Lodi; many nieces and nephews. Service will be 10 a.m. Monday at the First Christian Church, 222 S. Broadway St., Medina. The family will receive friends Sunday, 2 to 4 p.m. at the Waite & Son Funeral Homes, Medina Chapel, 765 N. Vivian Favors Garl
Vivian Favors Garl, 80, of 360 E. Summit St., Kent, died Saturday, June 6, 1998 at her home in Kent. She was born May 12, 1918 in Kent to Harry and Agnes (Drake) Favors. She was an interior decorator and ceramic artist with Custom Curtains in Cuyahoga Falls. She was a life member of Christ Episcopal Church of Kent, and past member of the choir, past president of AARP, founding member of Child Guidance Club of Kent, and an avid bridge player. Survivors include her daughters, Suzanne (Fred) White of Kent, Paulette Kordinak of Kent, Elizabeth (Robert) Goldthwaite of Kent; seven grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and sister, Mary Sowinski of Port Charlotte, Fla. She was preceded in death by her sisters, Louise Darrah, and Vesta McElroy. Calling hours will be held 7 to 9 p.m., Tuesday at the Bissler & Sons Funeral Home in Kent. Robert ``Bob'' H. Garske
Robert ``Bob'' H. Garske, 54, of Akron, died of a sudden illness just before midnight Thursday, June 4, 1998. Born in Akron on Jan. 31, 1944, Bob had served in the U. S. Navy and had just recently retired from the Akron Fire Department, where he served as a fireman and paramedic. He will be sadly missed by his children, Richard (Beth), Craig (Shannon), Michelle, Sarah, and Amanda; mother, Madalyn Garske Yacknow; sisters, Patricia Jarvis, Pauline (Andy) Tokie, and Eileen (Pat) Smith; brother, Bernard (Shelley) Garske; grandchildren, Jeff, Carlin, Sydney; many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father, Herbert Garske. Jack L. Gelvin, 72, passed away June 7, 1998, at Cleveland Hospital. Preceded in death by wife, Dolly, he was the loving father of Joyce and Vicky; grandfather of Justin and Ian; loving brother of Robert and Jerry; and is survived by many other loving family members. Mr. Ronald Kenneth Gillespie, 41, of Columbus, passed away Monday, June 8, 1998. Mr. Gillespie was a native of Canton, and was of the Protestant faith. Surviving are his mother and stepfather, Wilma and Hubert Ingram of Ringgold, Ga.; father, Harold Gillespie of Omaha, Neb.; children, Ronald Gillespie, II, Ted, Jesse, Jennie, and Maggie Gillespie, all of Barberton; maternal grandmother, Jessie Hambrick of Webster Springs, W. Fred J. Gilmore Sr.
Fred J. Gilmore Sr., 68, passed away Monday, June 8, 1998. He was born Oct. 23, 1929, in Elkins, W. Va., the son of John and Summa (Murphy) Gilmore. Fred served his country in the Navy from 1951 to 1955, and then moved to the Akron area. He retired as a supervisor for Dairy Mart. Preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Harold and Jack; and sister, Barbara, he is survived by his wife, Ruth; children, Dave (Gail) Gilmore, Patricia (Gary) Eaton, Rebecca (Henry) Pemberton, Sandra Gilmore, all of Akron, Fred (Gretchen) Gilmore Jr. of Suffield, Ohio, Brian (Leslie) Gilmore of Akron; sister-in-law, Maxine Gilmore of Elkins, W. Adele I. Glaze, 89, passed away June 5, 1998. Born in Clymer, Pa., she had been an Akron area resident for 34 years, and later resided in Ossian, In. Adele was involved with china painting for many years. She was preceded in death by her grandson, Joseph Lee Dies; her sisters, Beulah Barr, Georgia Averill, and Maxine Renfrew. Adele, a beloved mother and grandmother is survived by her daughter, Mardy (Joe) Dies of Ossian, In.; grandchildren, Gregg and Kelley Dies; great-grandchildren, Greg, Jessica, and Josey Dies, and Chelsea Walker; four nieces; and one nephew. Verna Ann Gombar
Verna Ann Gombar, 85, went to be with her Lord June 3, 1998. Born in Barberton, she had been a Uniontown resident for 14 years before moving to Phoenix. Mrs. Gombar was a homemaker, and bank teller, and a member of Holy Spirit Church in Uniontown. Preceded in death by her husband of 58 years, Alexander, in 1991, she is survived by her daughter, Barbara Alexandria Gombar of Stow; and son, Joseph Raymond, and daughter-in-law, Jo Ann Gombar of Phoenix; grandchildren, Jennifer Haines, Ann Ulsh, and Joseph Gombar; and four great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her brother, Joseph Gozdan of Canal Fulton, and sister Helen Fatsko of California. The family will receive friends Monday, 6 to 8 p.m. at Hecker Funeral Home in Uniontown. Mary E. Goodrich
CALIFORNIA -- Mary E. Goodrich, 88, died May 31, 1998. Mrs. Goodrich worked in the laundry at Akron City Hospital for 14 1/2 years. She lived over 30 years in Akron and moved to California in 1962. She was born in Meyersdale, Pa. She is survived by daughter, LaDema Telfer of California; sons, Clyde T. Goodrich of Tennessee, Ronald L. Goodrich of Akron; sisters, Betty Benson of Florida, Martha Radak of Akron, and Eleanor Brandt of Florida; brother, John Stott of Hartville; and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren. George V. Grable
George V. Grable, 77, passed away June 13, 1998. Born in Springfield Twp., Ohio, Mr. Grable lived in Akron all of his life. He was employed with Goodyear Aerospace for 45 years, was a member of the Goodyear 25-Year Club and received the Spirit Award in 1983. Mr. Grable attended the Springfield Baptist Church, was affiliated with the Akron Baptist Temple and visited the Hartville Flea Market, regardless of weather. He is survived by his wife, Arlene; daughter, Jeannette (Fred) Baker of Port St. Lucie, Fla.; stepson, Charles R. (Mary) Baker of the Philippines; stepdaughter, Joyce (Larry) Dick of Kent; granddaughters, Bonnie (Kevin) Musser of Rockford, Ill., Tammy (Frank) Minear of Marietta, Ga., and Aimee (David) Nielsen of Groton, Conn.; great-grandchildren, Scott, Shelbie and Colby Minear; stepgrandchildren, Barbara (David) Craig of Norman, Okla., Ronald (Shari) Dick of Boston Heights, Ohio, Judy (David) Vidmar of Aurora, Jeffery Dick of Kent, and Cathy ``Sweetie'' Baker of the Philippines; sister, Lona Flowers of Lakemore; brothers, Dr. Bennis Grable of Lodi, and Glenn (Isabel) Grable of Medina; nieces, Joyce (Collie) Poole, and Leigh Ann Hundley; nephew, Charles Hundley. L. P. Grant
L. P. Grant, affectionately known as ``Sweet P,'' departed this life Friday, June 5, 1998, after a brief illness. L. P. was born July 5, 1939, in Hayneville, Ala., to the union of Jimmie and the late Rosie Mae Grant. In 1947, the family relocated to Akron, where L. P. became a member of the Mount Lebanon Baptist Church. L. P. attended the Akron Public School system and graduated in 1958 from Buchtel High. After high school, L .P. met the love of his life, Sylvia J. Mitchell. They were married Nov. 30, 1963, and to their 35-year union were born four children, Darryl Eugene, Cheryl, Tonya Marie, and Ronda Mae. L. P. was employed by the Chrysler Corp. at the Twinsburg Stamping Plant for 32 years, where he was actively involved with the union, serving both as chief union steward, and two terms as vice president of U.A.W. Local 122. L.P. had recently retired from Chrysler on Oct. 31, 1997, and became a founding member of ``For Members Only,'' a retirement social club. An avid lover of sports, L. P. spent many hours with his close friends, fishing, bowling, and hunting. L. P. enjoyed traveling, and he and Sylvia were blessed to visit many areas of this country and abroad. L. P. believed in enjoying life to its fullest. L. P. was preceded in death by his mother, Rosie Mae Grant; and sister-in-law, Jacqueline Murray. A devoted husband and father, L. P. leaves, to cherish his memory, his wife, Sylvia; son, Darryl (Derian Renea); daughters, Cheryl, Tonya, and Ronda, all of Akron; grandchildren, Dawayne, Darryl, Dawon, Dominique, Darrica, Darnetra, Deontae, Denea, Diamond, and Doran. Also mourning his loss are his father, Jimmie (Agnes) of Fairlawn; sisters, Vera (Phillip) Carson of Akron, Beatrice (David) Lewis of Copley, Emma (Louis) Purifoy and JoAnn Grant, both of Mareno Valley, Calif.; brothers, Jimmie Jr., Willie, Charles (Cynthia), Arthur (Vicki), all of Akron, and Timothy (Sandra) of Columbus; father-in-law, Monnie Williams of Akron; brother-in-law, Rev. Willard Mitchell Jr. of North Miami Beach, Fla.; sisters-in-law, Marie (Artis) Price of Stow, Joyce Mitchell of Ravenna, and Phyllis Pittman of Commerce, Ga.; as well as a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Anne C. Gredick
Anne C. Gredick, 84 1/2, of Akron, spirtually departed this life while dying at home, God love her and keep her, on the morning of June 12, 1998. Anne was employed by Akron Public School Food Service as the administrative manager for 27 years, retiring in 1978. She was a member of the Firestone Park Baptist Church and will always be known as a good and loyal person with simple tastes. She is survived by her loving son, William A. Gredick of Akron; brother, John Csora of Cuyahoga Falls; and many nieces and nephews. Graveside services will be Tuesday, June 16, 1998, at 11 a.m., at Lakewood Cemetery, with Rev. Lillie Mae Greer
Lillie Mae Greer, 94, of Akron, died June 7, 1998, at Whetstone Care Center in Columbus. She lived in Akron from 1929 to 1996. She was a devoted second-grade teacher at Smith School for 37 years. She was a member of Westminster Presbyterian Church, founder of the Ohio University Akron Women's Association, and a member of Alpha Sigma Alpha. Preceded in death by her sister, Mame Seif; and brother, Arthur H. Greer, she is survived by sister, Cora Pauline Greer; nieces and great-nieces, Peggy Greer Stone, Sue Greer, Lynn Greer, Allison Stone, Becky Stone, Wendy Greer, Barb Seif, Shireen Moore, Denise Seif, and Renee King; nephews and great-nephews, William J. Greer, J. Richard Greer, Brian Stone, and William J. Greer Jr.; many wonderful and devoted friends who were her family too. It was Lil's wishes that there be no services. Interment at Magnolia Cemetery in Maryville, Tenn. Mary E. Guenther, 88, passed away June 3, 1998. She was born in Akron, and was retired from the purchasing department of Sears, Roebuck and Co. She was a member of St. Paul's Episcopal Church in Akron, and of the Falls Chapter 245, O.E.S. Mrs. Guenther was preceded in death by her husband, Clarence Otto Guenther; son, Michael Thomas; and brother, William S. Parry. She is survived by daughter, Patricia Pifer, and many nieces and nephews. Nellie A. Gump, 94 formerly of Kentway, died Friday, June 5, 1998 at IHS of Atlanta at Shorcham in Atlanta, Ga. She was born April 22, 1904 in Glenig Center, Canada to John Francis and Margaret (Fogarty) Meagher. She was a past president of Infant Jesus of Prague Guild, Catholic Daughters of America, Grandmothers Club of Portage County, Blue Star Mothers, Womens Auxiliary of V.F.W., and past president of Auxiliary No. 3383 in Akron. Survivors include her sons, Gerald W. of Kent, John R. of Kent; daughters, Dr. Bernadette A. Griggy of Topeka, Ka., Loretta Fisher of Kent, Ida Morson of Kennesaw, Ga., Karen Roach of Ft. Worth, Tx.; 33 grandchildren; 52 great-grandchildren; and nine great great-grandchildren; and sister, Della Nivens of Elyria. She was preceded in death by her husband, Gaylord W. Gump in 1984; and by brothers, Thomas John, James, Andrew, and Joseph; sisters, Agnes O'Hara, Mary Rodgers, Margaret Meagher, Lauretta Steedman, Hannah Keller; three grandchildren; and one great grandchild.
