Francis Moger
Francis "Frank" Moger, 70, of Braceville Township, died Sunday, March 18, 2001, at St. Joseph Health Center in Warren after a long illness.
Born May 19, 1930, in Newton Falls, he was the son of Thomas and Mary (Csapo) Moger. He had lived in Newton Falls for 45 years before moving to Braceville Township.
Mr. Moger was a sales engineer with Taylor-Winfield in Warren until he retired.
He was a member of the Mahoning Valley Astronomy Club in Braceville and the Warren Amateur Ham Radio Operators. His radio call letters were W8KAK.
Survivors include his son, Steven of Lake Milton; daughters, Sally Warner of Newton Falls, Susan Moger of Leavittsburg and Sandra Byrnes of Niles; 11 grandchildren; and brother, John of Newton Falls. His wife, Dorothy Merie (Leggett), whom he had married Dec. 14, 1955, died May 25, 1984.
Calling hours will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Borowski Memorial Home in Newton Falls, where services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday. Burial will be in Newton Township Cemetery in Newton Falls.
Memorials may be made to St. Joseph Cancer Care Center, 667 Eastland Ave. SE, Warren, 44483.

Bridget "Bea" Kiwala
Former Newton Falls resident Bridget G. "Bea" Kiwala, 86, died Saturday, March 17, 2001 at Park Village Health Center in Dover.
Born April 8, 1914 in Brownsville, Pa., she was the daughter of Joseph and Mary (Stephanic) Sieradzki. She had lived in Republic, Pa. before moving to Newton Falls in 1942.
Mrs. Kiwala was a sales associate at Falls Variety Center.
She was a member of St. Mary's Church in Newton Falls and the Madonna Club. She enjoyed gardening.
Survivors include her daughter, Sheryl (Larry) Arnold of New Philadelphia; brothers, Edward Sieradzki of Allison, Pa. and Frank (Frances) Sieradzki of Wallington, N.J.; and sister, Victoria Kozil of Strongsville. Her husband, Walter W., whom she married Jan. 27, 1937, died Feb. 23, 1994. Her brothers, Walter and John Sieradzki, died previously.
Calling hours will be held from 6 to 8 tonight and 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Borowski Memorial Funeral Home in Newton Falls. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday at St. Mary's Church in Newton Falls. Burial will be in Newton Township Cemetery in Newton Falls.

Harold Eugene Oblinger
Former Ravenna resident Harold Eugene Oblinger, 76, of Sandusky, died Monday, April 16, 2001 in Sandusky.
Arrangements will be announced by Shorts Funeral Home, Ravenna Chapel.

Harold H. Ingram
Harold H. Ingram, 80, of 2119 Akron Ave., Newton Falls, died Monday, April 16, 2001, at St. Joseph Health Care Center in Warren.
Arrangements will be announced by Borowski Funeral Home in Newton Falls.

Mary A. Easterday
Mary A. Easterday, 84, died Sunday, April 15, 2001.
Born in Akron, she was the daughter of Bruce and Catherine (Lampe) Easterday. She was a life resident of Akron.
She retired from the Goodyear Tire and Rubber Co. with 37 years of service.
Survivors include her brothers, Robert of Akron, and John (Linda) of Kinsman; sisters, Helen C. and Irene (Don) Midic, both of Akron. Her brother, James; and sisters, Margaret Miller and Mildred McGregor, died previously.
Services were held this morning at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Akron. Burial was in Holy Cross Cemetery in Akron. Dunn-Quigley, Ciriello & Carr Funeral Home handled arrangements.
Memorials may be made to the church.

Pearl E. Neal
Pearl E. Neal, 79, of Archwood Place, Cuyahoga Falls, died Monday, April 16, 2001 at Hospice Care Center in Copley.
Born Aug. 3, 1921 in Sawyerwood, Ohio, she was the daughter of Floyd and Orpha (Banks) Neal. She was a former Kent resident.
Mrs. Neal was a secretary and assistant to her husband, Dr. Ross F. Neal at the Kent Baptist Temple. She was a member of the Chapel of Prayer Baptist Church, then moved to Kent Baptist Church and in recent years, was a member of the Northampton Baptist Church.
She enjoyed visiting members of the church and in the hospital with her husband. Other church activities included playing the piano and organ, directing the youth choir, and teaching the Ladies Thursday Morning Bible Class.
Survivors include her husband, Dr. Ross F. Neal; three grandchildren, Gary Jr., Cynthia and Shelley; five great-grandchildren; brother, Robert Neal of Stuart, Fla.; and sisters, Winona McClure of Hudson and Gloria Dunn of Lenore, N.C. Her son, Gary Sr.; sister, Thelma Ayers; and brother, Francis "Corky" Neal, died previously.
Calling hours will be held from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday at Bissler & Sons Funeral Home in Kent, where services will be held at 1 p.m. Friday, with the Rev. Franklin Lorenz officiating. Burial will be in Restland Cemetery in Brimfield.
Memorials may be made to Northampton Baptist Church, 333 W. Steels Corner Road, Cuyahoga Falls, 44221 or Hospice Care Center, 3358 Ridgewood Drive, Akron, 44333.

Gladys V. Cowell
Gladys V. Cowell, 80, of Ravenna, died Monday, April 16, 2001, at the Cleveland Clinic.
Born March 10, 1921, in Avella, Pa., she was the daughter of Arthur and Ola (Kelly) Brooks. She had lived in Ravenna most of her life.
Mrs. Cowell worked in the housekeeping department of Robinson Memorial Hospital in Ravenna until her retirement. She previously worked as a cook at Jane Francis Nursing Home.
She was a member of the Family of Jesus Fellowship Church in Ravenna.
Survivors include her daughter, Terrie of Ravenna; brothers, J. Raymond Brooks of Allison, Pa. and Floyd N. Brooks of Washington, Pa.; and sister, Minerva Moten of Washington, Pa. Her husband, Thayer D., died in 1990. Her son, Doug, died in 1992. Her brothers, Alvin "Bud" and Kenneth Brooks, and sister, Verna Harris, died previously.
Calling hours will be held from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday at Shorts Funeral Home, Ravenna Chapel. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at First Congregational Church in Ravenna, with the Rev. Sam Goebel and the Rev. Jeffrey Frantz officiating. Burial will be in Maple Grove Cemetery in Ravenna.

Nicholas J. Mendiola
Nicholas J. Mendiola, 81, of Ravenna, died Monday, April 16, 2001 at his home.
Born Nov. 15, 1919, in Ravenna, he was the son of Guy and Lucretia (Lapicarella) Mendiola. He was a lifelong Ravenna resident.
Mr. Mendiola retired in 1984 from Frank Chervan Inc. (Darwal), where he was a cost accountant. He was on the board of directors at Frank Chervan Inc
He was a member of Immaculate Conception Church in Ravenna, past Grand Knight of the Knights of Columbus and past president of the Parents Club at Immaculate Conception. He was an avid ping pong player.
He was a World War II veteran of the U.S. Army, attaining the rank of master sergeant.
Survivors include his wife, Carita (Wilson), to whom he was married 54 years; son, Jim (Sherry) of Aurora; daughters, Joyce (Randy) Hedrick, Betty (Tommy) Thompson and Janet, all of Ravenna, Sue (Steven) Fosnight of Kent and Karen (Dan) Stein of Akron; six grandchildren; one great-grandchild; brothers, John and Joseph, both of Ravenna; sisters, Mary Rock and Nellie Kentris, both of Ravenna; and daughter-in-law, Bonnie Mendiola of Florida. His son, Lawrence, died in 1993. A sister, Cecelia, died in 1992.
Calling hours will be held from 6 to 9 tonight and 9 to 10 a.m. Wednesday at the Shorts Funeral Home Ravenna Chapel. Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Immaculate Conception Church in Ravenna, with Msgr. Robert Sabatino officiating. Burial will be in St. Mary Cemetery in Ravenna.
Memorials may be made to Portage Area Senior Services, Inc., 1046 Lake St., Kent, 44240 or Immaculate Conception Church.

Johnny "Jack" D. Kling
RANDOLPH - Johnny "Jack" D. Kling, 67, died Saturday, April 14, 2001.
Born Feb. 14, 1934, in Akron, he was the son of Roy and Lou Kling. He had lived in Akron before moving to Randolph five years ago.
Mr. Kling retired from Goodyear Tire and Rubber Co. in Akron in 1993 after 41 years of service.
He was a life member of Cuyahoga Falls Eagles Aerie No. 2207, Ravenna Eagles Aerie No. 2164 and American Legion Post No. 281. He was a U.S. Navy veteran.
He was an avid bowler and enjoyed camping at Cherokee Park.
Survivors include his wife, Kathryn, to whom he was married 40 years; son, Johnny (Pat) Jr.; daughter, Teresa (Bob) Gay; eight grandchildren; and one great-grandchild. His brothers, Donald and Carl, died previously.
Calling hours will be held from 5 to 9 p.m. today and from 9:30 a.m. until services at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Newcomer-Farley Funeral Home in Akron, with the Rev. Rod Taylor officiating. Burial will be in Hillside Memorial Park in Akron. Military honors will be provided by Appleman Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 3294 and American Legion Post No. 281.
Memorials can be made to the American Diabetic Association or the American Cancer Society.

Alva R. Philpot
Alva R. Philpot, 83, of Corona, Calif., a former Portage area resident, died Sunday, April 1, 2001, at Life Care of Corona.
Born Feb. 27, 1918, in Adrain, Pa., she had lived in Corona for four years and in Norco, Calif. for 15 years.
Mrs. Philpot worked at Kent State University for five years before retiring.
She volunteered for Corona/Norco YMCA-BMX where she worked the snack bar. She also volunteered for the Norco Chamber of Commerce.
She was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star in Aurora, and was a past worthy matron of the James A. Garfield Chapter.
Survivors include her daughters, Frances Swope of Portland, Ore., Janice Fear of Ravenna, and Madeline Marquez of Upland, Calif.; 13 grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.
Cremation has taken place. No services will be held.

Mason Scott Myers
Mason Scott Myers, infant son of Matthew and Deana (Thompson) Myers of Ravenna, died Sunday, April 15, 2001, at Akron General Medical Center.
Besides his parents, survivors include a brother, Matthew; sister, Kylee; grandparents, Cody and Nancy Myers and Don and Judy Thompson, all of Ravenna; great-grandparents, Naaman and Pearl Myers of Ravenna, Joyce Liston of Ravenna and Irene Smith of Cincinnati; and great-great-grandmother, Bernice Templeton of Kent.
Private services will be held for the family.
Arrangements are being handled by the Wood-Kortright Funeral Home, Ravenna Chapel.
Memorials can be made to the Precious Parents Support Group, c/o Children's Hospital Medical Center of Akron, One Perkins Square, Akron, 44308.

Gladys Cowell, 80, of Ravenna, died Monday, April 16, 2001, at the Cleveland Clinic.

Joy J. Woodson, 83
Joy J. Woodson, 83, of Kent died Saturday, April 15, at Robinson Memorial Hospital in Ravenna.
Born Aug. 7, 1917, in Franklin, N.J., she was the daughter of Alan and Helen (Dillistin) Johnson. She lived in Bethel Park, Pa., before moving to Kent in 1963.
Mrs. Woodson was an associate professor of Library Science at Kent State University.
She was formerly active in the American Association of University Women.
Survivors include her sons, James C. Woodson III, of Lakewood, Colo., Alan J. Woodson of Urbana, Blair T. Woodson of Ravenna; daughters, Margaret W. Watts of Streetsboro, and Helen W. Maxey of Atlanta, Ga.; eight grandchildren; and a brother, Alan D. Johnson of Lynn, N.C.
Her husband, James Clay Woodson, died in 1991,
There will be no calling hours. Private services for the family will be held at a later date. The Wood-Kortright Funeral Home, Kent Chapel, is handling the arrangements.

Bernice Warshaw, 87
Bernice Warshaw, 87, of Cleveland Heights died Thursday April 12, 2001, at Hillcrest Hospital in Mayfield Heights following an extended illness.
Born February 19, 1914, in Cleveland, she was the daughter of Joseph and Blanche (Axlerod) Zipkin.
Mrs. Warshaw was retired from the Cuyahoga County Welfare Department where she was a clerk.
Survivors include her son, Elliot (Gail) Warshaw of Cleveland Heights; one grandson; and two great-grandsons.
Graveside funeral services are at 2 p.m. today at Workmen's Circle Cemetery in Parma. Arrangements are being made by Green's Funeral Home in Mantua.

George F. Cales, 72
MANTUA ­ George F. Cales, 72, died Saturday, April 14, 2001, at his home following a brief illness with cancer.
Born Aug. 26, 1928, in Crown Hill, W. Va., he was the son of George and Molly (Perry) Cales. He lived in the Mantua area for the past 38 years.
Mr. Cales was employed at L.T.V. Steel in Cleveland for 32 years as a ruffer and a roller, retiring in 1984.
He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II. He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars post 04833 in Florida. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and playing poker.
Survivors include his wife of 47 years, Idell (Smith) at home; sons Jeff (Sherry) and Mark (Terry) Cales, both of Mantua, John (Mary Lou) Daniels of Shalersville, Bobby Daniels of Charleston, W.Va. Melvin (June) Daniels of Sacramento, Calif.,Mike (Mary) Daniels of Milton, Florida; daughters, Rebecca Cales of Mantua and Lynn (Lochia) Kidd of Charleston, W. Va.; 23 grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren. His son, Dirk Cales, died in 1984. Two sisters and five brothers also died previously.
Calling hours will be held from 2 to 4 p.m. and from 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at Green's Funeral Home in Mantua where services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday with Rev. Earnest Surgener officiating. Burial will be held in Hillside Cemetery in Mantua with military honors.

Jack D. McNaughton, 58
Jack D. McNaughton, 58, of Hudson Park Drive, Hudson, died Friday, April 13, 3001, at his home.
Born Dec. 14, 1942 in Cleveland, he was the son of Earl Jack McNaughton and Doris Davenport.
Mr. McNaughton was the executive vice president for Precision Machined Products Association, which he joined in 1992. He was formerly executive vice president of the Steel Founders' Society of America in Des Plaines, Ill. and had been chief operating officer of the American Hotel & Motel Association in Washington, D.C. He received his bachelor of science in metallurgy from Case Institute of Technology and a masters of business administration from Western Reserve University. He also served as the vice president of the Undergraduate Alumni Association at Case Western Reserve. He also had been elected to leadership positions in the Institute for Organizational Management of the U.S. Chamber of Commerce, the Cleveland Society of Association Executives, the Chicago Society of Association Executives and the American Executive Status from the American Society of Association Executives.
Survivors include his wife, Denise A. (Stack); sons, David of Cincinnati and Daniel of Hudson; stepbrothers, Dennis (Peggy) Meacham of Columbus and Edward (Diane) Meacham of Brady Lake; stepsisters, Mariam Meacham Gillen of Kent and Jean (Edward) Dwyer of Maryland. His parents; stepfather Edward T. Meacham; and stepsister, Marcia Perry, died previously.
Calling hours will be held from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at the Bissler & Sons Funeral Home in Kent. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Christ Church Episcopal of Hudson with the Rev. Stephen Smith officiating. Burial will be in Standing Rock Cemetery in Kent.

Harry Otto "Corky" Bryan
ROOTSTOWN - Harry Otto "Corky" Bryan, 49, died Saturday, April 14, 2001, at Wade Park Veterans Hospital in Cleveland.
Born Aug. 10, 1951 in Ravenna, he was the son of Harrison and Marguerite (Drago) Bryan. He lived in Ravenna before moving to Rootstown 15 years ago.
Mr. Bryan was the former owner and operator of the Suspension Shop in Ravenna for 20 years. He had been employed by the Portage County Water Resources Department for the last two months.
He was a lifetime member of the Ravenna Veterans of Foreign Wars, Ravenna Eagles, Ravenna Elks, Ravenna Moose Lodge and the Ravenna Italian-American Society.
He was an avid bowler, played bocce and had played on the Ravenna Elks softball team.
Survivors include his daughter, Jaime of Ravenna; one grandchild; sister, Judy Harper of Streetsboro; and special friend, Barbara Wilkinson of Nashville, Tenn. A brother, Ronald Bryan, died previously.
Calling hours will be held from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Wood-Kortright Funeral Home, Ravenna Chapel, where services will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday. Burial will be in Maple Grove Cemetery in Ravenna.
