Robert F. Harris Sr.
WINDHAM - Robert F. Harris Sr., 66, died Thursday, Feb. 22, 2001, at Portage County Nursing Home in Shalersville.
Born Feb. 5, 1935, in Binghamton, N.Y., he was the son of Clarence and Margaret (Barry) Harris. He had lived in Windham since 1972.
Mr. Harris was a table operator with Filmco in Aurora.
He was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War, serving with the 187th Airborne.
He was a member of Grace Episcopal Church in Ravenna.
Survivors include his wife, Martha (Stephens), to whom he was married 42 years; sons, Robert Jr. of Death Valley, Calif., Kenneth of Las Vegas, Nev., and Thomas of Newton Falls; daughters, Rocky Harris of Windham and Jeanette Trimmer of Aurora; 10 grandchildren; brothers, C.W. of Florida, Kenneth of Brimfield, and Fredrick and John, both of Binghamton, N.Y.; and sisters, Florence Bishop of Binghamton and Mary Jane Donneley of Chicago. His son, Steven, died in 1994.
Cremation has taken place. There will be no calling hours. A memorial service will be held at a later date. The Rev. Carol Evans will offficiate. Arrangements are being handled by Shorts Funeral Home, Ravenna Chapel.

Barton J. Hyer
Barton J. Hyer, 51, of Ravenna Township ,died Wednesday, Feb. 21, 2001, at home.
Born Sept. 5, 1949 in Cleveland, he was the son of Frank and Helen (Guminey) Hyer. A life resident of Ravenna, he was a 1967 graduate of Ravenna High School.
Mr. Hyer was a machinist with RB&W in Kent.
He was a member of New Milford Baptist Church in Rootstown.
He was a U.S. Army veteran of the Vietnam War.
Survivors include his mother, Helen Taylor of Rootstown; brother, Ray (Pam) Hyer of Akron; and sisters, Barbara (James) Thompson of Rootstown, Ann (Chet) Leavengood of Ravenna, Donna (Lou) Wojcinski of Akron and Cathy (Wayne) Schomer of Cortland. His father died in 1987.
There will be no calling hours. A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. Monday at New Milford Baptist Church in Rootstown, with the Rev. Rick Reynolds officiating. Burial will be in Homeland Cemetery in Rootstown. Arrangements are being handled by Shorts Funeral Home in Ravenna.
Memorials may be made to the church.

Maxine D. Carrothers
AURORA - Maxine D. Carrothers, 72, died Saturday, Feb. 17, 2001.
She was born Jan. 3, 1929.
Survivors include her husband, John D.; sons, Larry (Elsa) Ager of Streetsboro and Timothy (Georgette) Ager of Northfield; daughters, Debbie (Joel) Hladky of Oakwood, Cathy (Ron) Wojtkiewicz of Garfield Heights and Becky (Les) Pettit of Bedford; eight grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; brothers, Ronald (Doreen) Kohler of Orangeburg, S.C. and Robert (Donna) Kohler of Midvale, Ohio; and sister, Albertha Rufus of Carrolton, Ohio.
A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Crown Hill Memorial Park Chapel, 8592 Darrow Road, Twinsburg.

Roy A. Richardson
HIRAM - Roy A. Richardson, 86, died Friday, Feb. 16, 2001, at Southeast Ohio Regional Medical Center in Cambridge, following a long illness.
Born Jan. 28, 1915, in Charleston, W.Va., he was the son of Levi and Minnie (Young) Richardson. Formerly of Cleveland, he had been a Hiram area resident since 1986.
Mr. Richardson retired from the Cleveland Fabricating Company, where he was an assembly worker. He also was a retired clergyman, having preached at churches in West Virginia, Ohio and Pennsylvania for many years.
He was a member of The House of Prayer Church in Garrettsville.
Survivors include his sons, Buddy (Barbara) of Cambridge, Okey (Angie) and David (Juanita), both of West Virginia, and Larry (Carol) of Pennsylvania; daughters, Doris (Bill) Burdette of Nevada and Dora (Jesse) Ward of Hiram; 18 grandchildren; several great-grandchildren and great-great grandchildren. His wife, Hester, died in 1998. His daughter, Wanda, and son, Hanford, died previously.
Visitation will be held from 11 a.m. until services at noon Thursday at The House of Prayer Church, 9874 Silica Sand Road in Garrettsville. The Rev. Ray Johnson will officiate. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery in Hiram. Arrangements are being made by Green's Funeral Home in Mantua.

Gene Borckardt
Gene Borckardt, 70, of Medina, a former Garrettsville resident, died Sunday, Feb. 18, 2001, at his home after a long illness.
Born Feb. 26, 1930, in Lakewood, he was the son of Carl and Winfred (Bowser) Borckardt.
Mr. Borckardt was a graphic artist.
He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War.
Survivors include his daughters, Connie A. and Karen Y., both of Pensacola, Fla.; sister, the Rev. Peggy Borckardt; and Jerry Wyrich, his friend and companion. His wife, Frances, whom he married Oct. 28, 1950, died July 10, 1993.
Visitation will be held from 1:45 to 2:30 p.m. Wednesday at the Mallory-DeHaven-Carlson Funeral Home in Garrettsville, followed by graveside services at 3 p.m. at Park Cemetery in Garrettsville, with the Rev. Vern L. Bok officiating.

Jill L. Dove
Jill L. Dove, 41, of Ravenna, died of natural causes Sunday, Feb. 18, 2001 at Robinson Memorial Hospital in Ravenna.
Born Jan. 6, 1960 in Bedford, she was the daughter of Russell and Virginia (Thomas) Boose. A former Kent resident, she had lived in Ravenna for 12 years.
Mrs. Dove was a floral cashier at the Ravenna Giant Eagle.
She was a member of the United Food and Commercial Workers Local 880.
She was involved with the Ravenna Hot Stove Baseball League. She enjoyed spending time with her children and making crafts.
Survivors include her husband, Mark, to whom she was married 16 years; son, Matthew and daughter, Molly, both at home; mother, Virginia Boose of Twinsburg; brothers, Russell (Gerry) Boose of Akron, Rolland (Debbie) Boose of Aurora and Rodger (Sherry) Boose of Mt. Eden, Ky.; and sister, Barbara (Tom) Vaji of Kent. A son, Timothy, died previously.
Calling hours will be held from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Shorts Funeral Home, Ravenna Chapel, where services will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, with the Rev. Robert Prichard officiating Burial will be in Crown Hill Cemetery in Twinsburg.

Robert L. Jordan
Robert L. Jordan, 70, of Alliance, died Sunday, Feb. 18, 2001 at St. Elizabeth Hospital in Youngstown after a long illness.
Mr. Jordan was a retired school teacher and basketball coach in the Marlington and East Canton areas. He was the assistant coach of the East Canton High School girls basketball team and the softball and volleyball coach at Mount Union College in Alliance, where he also taught golf.
He was a member and former elder of Minerva First Presbyterian Church. A U.S. Army veteran, he was a member of American Legion Post No. 166 of Alliance.
Survivors include his wife, Ardella (Brown), whom he married Aug. 8, 1954; sons, R. Jerry of Louisville, Richard (Nancy) of Burlington, Vt., and Daniel (Heather) of Trenton, Ohio; daughter, Joy L. Yacklin of Minerva; six grandchildren; brothers, William (Carolyn) of Minerva and James of Louisville; and sisters, Norma (Donald) Moser of Louisville and Sandy (David) Sutton of Minerva.
Calling hours will be held from 6 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at Gotschall-Hutchison Funeral Home, 206 E. Lincolway, Minerva and from 10 a.m. until services at 11 a.m. Thursday at Minerva First Presbyterian Church. Burial with full military honors will be in Sunset Hills Memory Gardens in North Canton.
Memorials may be made to Minerva First Presbyterian Church Elevator Fund.

David Lynn Smith
Former Ravenna resident David Lynn Smith, 69, of California, died Thursday, Feb. 1, 2001 at his home.
Born Aug. 28, 1931, in Wayland, he was the son of Boyd and Mina Smith. He had lived in Ravenna prior to moving to California in 1952.
Mr. Smith was a plumber for 33 years before his retirement.
He was a member of the San Fernando Valley Model T Club and Canoga Park Elks. He had been a Mason since 1964. He enjoyed outdoors, fishing, camping and antique cars.
Survivors include his wife, Violet, to whom he was married 49 years; son, B.G.; one grandchild; brother, Joseph of Charlestown; and sister, Beryl Jean of Pico Rivera, Calif. His son, Donald, and three sisters died previously.
There will be no local services. Arrangements were made by Forest Lawn Mortuary in Hollywood Hills, Calif. Burial was in Forest Lawn Memorial Park in Hollywood Hills.

Carolyn A. Stanford, 56
RANDOLPH - Carolyn A. Stanford, 56, died Sunday, Feb. 18, 2001, at her home following a lengthy illness.
Born Sept. 26, 1944, in Ravenna, she was the daughter of Harold C. and Elizabeth (Horak) Huth.
Mrs. Stanford was a homemaker.
She loved painting and crocheting.
Survivors include her husband, Paul; her mother; brothers, Harold G. of Randolph, Fred of Rootstown, Ron (Michele) of Palm Beach, Fla. and Denny (Angela) of Randolph; brother-in-law, Bruce (Shirley) Stanford of Randolph; sisters, Christine (Larry) Schwinn and Karen Huth, both of Randolph. Her father died previously.
Calling hours will be held from 6 to 9 p.m. on Tuesday at the Wood-Kortright Funeral Home Ravenna Chapel. Services will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday at the Hillside Cemetery Chapel in Randolph. Burial will be in Hillside Cemetery.
Memorials may be made to the Animal Protective League.

Clifton C. Mims Sr.
Clifton C. Mims Sr., 61, of Ravenna, died Monday, Feb. 12, 2001, at Robinson Memorial Hospital in Ravenna after a long illness.
Born Aug. 13, 1939 in Verbena, Ala., he was a son of Joe H. Courtney and Inez (Clark) Mims. He was a 1958 graduate of Ravenna High School.
Mr. Mims was employed by the Ravenna Arsenal as an ammunition handler for 11 years, retiring in 1993 because of ill health.
He was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force.
He enjoyed fishing and hunting. He centered his life around his children and grandchildren.
Surviviors include his wife Carol, to whom he was married 37 years; son, Clifton Jr., of Ravenna; daughters, Adrian, Carolyn (Curtis) Nelson and Elizabeth (Cid) Primm, all of Akron; eight grandchildren; mother, Inez; brothers, Amos (Kathy), and John, both of Ravenna, and Ernest (Darlene) of Fairlawn; sister, Arris Mims of Alabama; and mother-in-law, Rosie McCall.
Visitation will be held from noon until services at 1 p.m. Friday at Pilgrim Rest Baptist Church in Ravenna, with the Rev. Isaiah Moss officiating. Burial will be in Grandview Memorial Park in Ravenna. Procession will form and condolences may be sent to 331 Ravenna Ave., Ravenna.

William E. Seachrist
William E. Seachrist, 70, who was president of Kent Industries from 1966 to 1982, died Monday, Feb. 12, 2001, at his home in Lancaster, Pa., after a four-month battle with brain cancer.
Born Jan. 31, 1931, he was reared in Millersville, Pa., and had lived in the Twin Lakes area for 35 years before moving to Lancaster in 1996.
Mr. Seachristhad served as board chairman of AdvenTek Corp. since 1988. He was president of the company from 1982 until 1988. He also was a former chairman and chief executive officer of Prodex Inc.
Prior to becoming president of the Portage Plastics division of Kent Industries and Kent Molded Plastics Inc., he was vice president and general manager of Cleveland Powder Metal Co. from 1961 to 1966. He also was city manager of Ridgeway, Pa. from 1958 to 1961.
A 1952 graduate of Franklin & Marshall College in Lancaster, Pa., he served on the Franklin & Marshall board of trustees from 1972 to 1998, retiring following four years as board president. He recently established the William E. and Marjorie Seachrist Endowment in Entrepreneurial Studies to provide opportunities for students to learn about entrepreneurship. He also was a 1958 graduate of the Wharton School, University of Pennsylvania.
He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy, serving from 1953 to 1957 and attaining the rank of lieutenant. He also served in the Naval Reserve.
He was a member of American Academy of Political and Social Sciences, New York Academy of Sciences, Society for Plastic Engineers, International City Managers Association, Hamilton Club, Phi Sigma Kappa, Mu Upsilon Sigma, Free and Accepted Masons and St. John's Episcopal Church. While living in Kent, he was a member and director of the Kent Chamber of Commerce, chairman of the Kent-Twin Lakes United Fund Drive and a member of the Kent Rotary Club and Christ Episcopal Church of Kent.
Survivors include his wife, Marjorie L. (Raab), whom he married in 1953 and to whom condolences may be sent at 405 Winding Way, Lancaster, Pa.; sons, Frederick E. (Lori) of Cuyahoga Falls, David W. (Martha) of Nashville, Tenn. and Eric R. (Darcie) of Stow; daughters, Sibyl (Dale) Freeman and Marjorie S. (Alan) Walsh, both of Lancaster, Pa.; and six grandchildren. His brother, Jay Robert, died previously.
No local services are scheduled. Fred F. Groff, Inc. Funeral Services of Lancaster, Pa. is handling arrangements.

Elizabeth F. (Libby) Jura
Elizabeth F. (Libby) Jura, 83, of 433 Warren Road, Newton Falls died Friday, Feb. 9. 2001, at Laurie Ann Nursing Home in Newton Falls of congestive heart failure. She had been ill for a long time.
Born Jan. 2, 1918, in Coatesville, Pa., she was the daughter of John and Sophie (Hanczar) Pastilong. Formerly of Pennsylvania, she lived in the Newton Falls area since 1943.
Mrs. Jura was a bar maid for many years, working for Circle Bar & VFW Post 3332, both of Newton Falls. Prior to becoming a bar maid, she was employed at the Ravenna Arsenal and did catering for various organizations and serviced vending machines for automatic vendors.
Mrs. Jura was a long-time member of St. Mary's Church in Newton Falls and was charter member of Madonna Club and past president of Altar & Rosary Society. She was a member of the cemetery association of the church, treasurer for Polish
Women's Alliance, and belonged to the Women's Relief Corps; past president of American Legion Auxiliary 236, and served as treasurer of American Legion Auxiliary Co. for two years. She volunteered for Trumbull County Meals on Wheels Program and was a charter member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary 3332. She was a past president of
Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary District 8 where she was secretary, conductress, and V.I.P. women of the year. She was the secretary for Senior Citizen Group 4051, past president of Blue Star Mothers Chapter 75, a Gold Star Mother and she served one year as Department of Ohio Blue Star Mothers where she was also treasurer and financial secretary. In 1997 she was elected as the Department of Ohio President of the Blue Star Mothers. She also belonged to the Democratic Club and the Relief Corps. She placed a wreath at the tomb of the unknown soldier along with President Clinton.
She was a graduated St. James Parochial School and she attended Kent State University.
Survivors include sons Joseph C. of Santa Anna, Calif., Robert J. of Sanibel Island, Fla., William A. (Andy) of Montaque, Calif., Donald E. of Newton Falls, 13 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. Her husband, Joseph Jura, whom she married Feb. 20, 1936, died in April, 1963. A son, Frederick, died in 1978 and seven brothers and four sisters died previously.
Calling hours will be 5 to 7 p.m. Monday at Borowski Funeral Home in Newton Falls where the Blue Star Mothers will hold a service at 4:30 p.m. Services will be at 10:00 a.m. Tuesday with Rev. David Merzweiler officiating. Burial will be in St. Joseph Cemetery in Newton Falls.

Anna M. West
HIRAM ­ Anna M. West, 94, died Saturday Feb. 10, 2001, at Altercare Nursing Home in Ravenna after a brief illness.
Born Nov. 15, 1906, in Wimber, Pa., she was the daughter of Joseph and Suzanna (Hudak) Hydock.
She was a homemaker. She also had worked at Davis Laundry and Cleaning.
Survivors include her son, Harold Jack (Janet) of Hiram; two grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; brothers, Paul Hydock of New Kensington, Pa., and Steve Hydock of Charleston, W.Va.; sister, Verna Hansen of Los Angeles, Calif. Her husband, Harold W., died Oct. 2, 1990. Her brothers, Andrew, Jack and Joseph; and sisters Marie, Sue, and Helen, died previously.
Calling hours will be held from 1 p.m. until services at 2:30 p.m. Monday at Mallory-DeHaven-Carlson Funeral Home in Garrettsville. Burial will be at 12:30 p.m. Wednesday in Greenwood Cemetery in Wheeling W.Va.

Harold Woodrow Aliff
GARRETTSVILLE ­ Harold Woodrow Aliff, 70, died Saturday Feb. 10, 2001, at the Cleveland Clinic after a brief illness ,
Born March 30, 1930, in Mayberry, W.Va., he was the son of Arnold Woodrow and Mossie Danford (Nicewander) Aliff. He lived in Garrettsville for 23 years, moving from Bedford Heights.
Mr. Aliff worked at Anchor Fasteners in Bedford Heights for 18 years, and for AMAC Enterprises in Cleveland for nine years, retiring in 1987.
He was a member of the Windham American Legion 671, the Garrettsville Eagles, and "The 10 or More" motorcycle club. He played Santa Claus for many area organizations and many functions.
He was a Marine Corps Veteran of the Korean War.
He loved the time he spent with family and friends. He was a father to many and a friend to all he met.
Survivors include his wife, Lucy (Vinson) whom he married on Nov. 24, 1952; his son Harold Woodrow II of Cleveland; daughters, Denise Adel Watkins of Bainbridge, Beauta Ann DeGenero of Garrettsville, Cynthia Annette Aliff of Garrettsville, Catherine Junette Kester of Garrettsville; eight grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; brothers, Arnold Elwood of Bluefield, W.Va. and James Russell of Bland, Va.; sisters, Jaquita Quesenberry of Hillsville, Va., Charlene Sedor of Tucson, Ariz., Naomi Sproles of Tucson, and Verlinda Nutter of Rising Sun, Md. His sisters, Alva Slagle, and Theda Hodges, died previously.
There will be no calling hours. Private military burial services will be held at a later date.
Mallory-DeHaven-Carlson Funeral Home in Garrettsville is handling the arrangements.

John J. Montoni
Services will be held Monday for John J. Montoni, 95, of Boydell Road, Kent, who died Friday, Feb. 9, 2001, at Robinson Memorial Hospital in Ravenna.
Born Oct. 11, 1905 in Kent, he was the son of Marion and Lena (DeBarnardi) Montoni.
Mr. Montoni owned and operated Montoni's Pizza, Kent's original pizza shop.
He was a member of St. Patrick Church of Kent, Knights of Columbus Council No. 1411, Christopher Columbus Society, Ravenna Moose Lodge, and Kent Veterans of Foreign Wars.
Survivors include his daughters, Dolores (James) Orcutt of Kent and Claudia (George) Pittinger of Kent; eleven grandchildren; 24 great- grandchildren; one great-great grandson; brothers, William of Kent and Joseph of Kent; sisters, Rose Montemaggiore of Kent, Helen Swiderski of Kent, Armenia Glod of Kent, Edith Miller of Kent and Theresa Goodhart of Kent; and special friend, Ruth McGowan of Kent. His wife, Vincentine (Giovangnoli), died in 1980. His brothers, Frank and Lawrence, and sisters, Lena Ubri, Mary Sullivan, Irene Giovangnoli, Anna Montoni and Thelma Smith, also died previously.
Calling hours will be held from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. today at Bissler & Sons Funeral Home in Kent, where Knights of Columbus services will be held at 6:45 p.m. today. Services will be held at 10 a.m. Monday at St. Patrick Church in Kent, with the Rev. Tom Kraszewski officiating. Burial will be in Standing Rock Cemetery in Kent.
Memorials may be made to St. Patrick School Building Fund, 127 Portage Street, Kent, 44240 or the Brimfield Fire and EMS, 1333 Tallmadge Road, Brimfield, 44240.
