Ruth E. Neubert
Ruth E. Neubert, 85, of Akron, died Saturday, Jan. 13, 2001, at the Kensington Care Center in in Aurora.
Born Dec. 29, 1915, in Akron, she was a daughter of Earl and Mary (Squires) Denman. She had lived in Akron all her life.
Mrs. Neubert was a homemaker.
She was a member of First Christian Church of Kent.
Surviving are sons, Terry (Louise) of Kent and Kim (Janet) of Akron; daughter, Janet (Robert) Davis of Tallmadge; eight grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. Her husband, Charles W., died previously.
Visitation will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, followed by services at 11:30 a.m. at First Christian Church of Kent. The Rev. Daniel Griggs will officiate. Burial will be in Crown Hill Cemetery in Twinsburg. Hennessy-Bagnoli Funeral Home in Tallmadge is handlingarrangements.

Bradley T. "Butch" Robinson
Bradley T. "Butch" Robinson died Saturday, Jan. 13, 2001, at a Cleveland area hospital after a brief illness.
Born in Cleveland, he was a son of Gloria Wright and Alfred Robinson. He had lived in Ravenna for 36 years.
Survivors include his son, Bradley Jr. (Sandra) of Ravenna; stepdaughter, Pam Robinson of Cleveland; mother, Gloria (Fred) Wright; father, Alfred of Florida; brothers, Darrell (Sandra), Nolan (Michelle) and Gerard; sisters, Marquetus, DaLayn (Ben) Matlock, Valerie, Verinda Daniels, and Alanda. His wife, Gloria (Green), and sister, Deborah, died previously.
Visitation will be held from noon until services at 1 p.m. Wednesday at New Mt. Calvary Baptist Church in Ravenna. The Rev. William Stevens will officiate. Burial will be in Maple Grove Cemetery in Ravenna. Procession will form and condolences may be sent to 3897 Blake St. Stewart and Calhoun Funeral Home in Akron is handling arrangements.

Ruth J. Smith
Ruth J. Smith, 76, of Austintown, died Tuesday, Jan. 9, 2001, at St. Elizabeth Hospital in Youngstown.
Born Nov. 19, 1924, in Akron, she was the daughter of Clarence and Edith (Gifford) Salmon.
Mrs. Smith was a homemaker.
She attended Grace Lutheran Church.
Survivors include daughters, Cari Culp of Mineral Ridge and Marilyn Bolton of Titusville, Fla.; 11 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; brother, Joseph White of Cape Canaveral, Fla.; and sister, Lita Trocchio of Ravenna.
There will be no calling hours. Memorial services will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday at Grace Lutheran Church. Lane Funeral Home Austintown Chapel is handling arrangements.
Memorials may be made to Grace Lutheran Church.

William D. "Cowboy" Edwards
STREETSBORO ­ William D. "Cowboy" Edwards, 78, died Saturday, Jan. 13, 2001, at Maple Wood Care Centre in Streetsboro.
Born June 18, 1922, in Bedford, he was the son of Abraham and Irene (McKinley) Edwards. He has lived in Ravenna before moving to Streetsboro.
Mr. Edwards was a truck driver.
A U.S. Marine Corps veteran of World War II, he was a lifetime member of Veterans of Foreign Wars. He also was a member of the American Legion and the Disabled American Veterans.
Survivors include his son, William II; daughter Kathryn; three grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; brother, Frank ; and companion Kay Taylor.
Private family services will be held at a later date. The Cremation Society of Ohio is handling arrangements.

William J. Skowronski
Former Streetsboro resident William J. Skowronski, 45, of 540 7th Ave, West, Craig, Colo., died Wednesday, Jan. 10, 2001, at The Memorial Hospital in Craig.
Born Aug. 19, 1955, in Cleveland, he was the son of Richard S. and Garnet (Haddox) Skowronski. He was reared in Streetsboro, where he attended school. He had lived in Colorado since 1980.
Mr. Skowronski owned and operated a temporary employment agency in Craig.
An avid sports fan, he enjoyed golf, basketball, the Cleveland Browns and the Cleveland Indian. He coached baseball and soccer while his children were growing up. He attended Kent State University for two years.
Survivors include his wife, Nancy, whom he married Sept. 11, 1982; sons, Christopher and Brian, both of Craig; daughter, Laura of Craig; mother and stepfathe, Garnet and Al Wenzel of Streetsboro; brother, Richard of N. Charleston, S.C.; brothers, Richard of North Charleston, S.C., and Joseph (Sue) of Fairfield, N.J.; and sister, Janet (Brett) Grove of Stow. His father, Richard, and brother, Michael, died previously.
There will be no local calling hours or services. Burial was in Craig Cemetery. Arrangements were made by Grant Mortuary in Craig.
Memorials may be made to Community First Bank, 139 E. Victory Way, Craig, Colo. 81625.

Elizabeth H. Santabarbara
Elizabeth H. Santabarbara, 80, of Navarre died Saturday Jan. 13, 2001, in Aultman Hospital after a brief illness.
Born in Cleveland, she was a Massillon resident since 1980, recently moving to Navarre. She previously lived in the Cleveland area.
Surviving are daughters, Carol Ann (James) Ewell of Streetsboro, Rosalie (Willard) Hodgson of North Lawrence, Maria (Don) Pugh of Navarre, Ester (Russell) Pugh Sr. of Massillon and Susan Santabarbara of Massillon; 18 grandchildren; 30 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; two sisters, Julie (Fritz) Drabik and Rose (Charles) Bielecki, both of Bedford. Her husband, Anthony Santabarbara died Dec. 11, 1986. Four brothers, Louis, Joseph, James and Frank Borsi also died previously.
Calling hours are at 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday in the Format-Clevenger & Gordon Funeral Home in Canton. Services will be at 8 p.m. Wednesday in the funeral home with Rev. Jim Easterling officiating.

Laura Amanda Putnam
Laura Amanda Putnam, 63, of Warren died Sunday, Jan. 14, 2001, at Trumbull Memorial Hospital after a lengthy illness battling complications of colon cancer.
Born March 31, 1937, in Canton, she was the daughter of James and Eula Randell. She lived 15 years in Warren, moving there from Windham, where she lived for 17 years.
Mrs. Putnam was a cake decorator in Windham for many years.
She was a member of the Windham Baptist Church since 1967. She taught Sunday school and sang in the church choir.
Survivors include her husband, James, to whom she was married 45 years; son, Marshall E. of Lillington, N.C. and Michael E. of Atwater; daughter, Diana L. Cleavenger of Atwater; seven grandchildren; brothers, John Randall of Council Bluffs, Iowa, and James and David Randall, both of Canton; and sisters, Martha Eddleman of Canton, Blanch Mogus of Inverness, Fla. and Ilene Mereweather of Bentonville, Ark. Her sisters, Edith McDaniel, Deloris Morris and Irene Benni; and brother, Harry Randall, led previously.
Calling hours will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Mallory-DeHaven-Carlson Funeral Home in Garrettsville. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Windham Baptist Church, with the Rev. Carl Bailey officiating. Burial will be in Windham Township Cemetery.
Memorials may be made to Windham Baptist Church, P.O. Box 397, Windham, 44288.

Everett Bud Cook
Everett Bud Cook, 42, of Chippewa Lake, died Saturday, Jan. 13, 2001, at his home.
Born June 11, 1958, in Medina County, he was the son of Raleigh and Irene (Miranda) Cook. Formerly of Creston, he had lived in Chippewa Lake for five years.
Mr. Cook was a food processor at Sandridge Salads in Medina.
He was a member of Medina Congregation of the Jehovah's Witnesses.
Surviviors include his mother, Irene of Ravenna; brothers, Robert E. of Strongsville, Jack R. of Mantua, Peter Peterman of Barberton, and Charles Eakin of Medina; and sisters, Nancy Bridgman of Ravenna and Beverly Bailey of Brunswick. His father, Raleigh, and brother, Paul D., died previously.
There will be no calling hours. A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Shorts Funeral Home Streetsboro Chapel. Private burial will take place.

Harold M. Nething
Harold M. Nething worked for the U.S. Post Office for 35 years, then began a second career as a full-time volunteer for the Ravenna City Schools.
Mr. Nething, 90, of Ravenna died Sunday, Jan. 14, 2001, at Robinson Memorial Hospital in Ravenna after a long illness.
Born Aug. 14, 1910, in Wheeling W.Va., he was the son of Charles and Minnie (Spring) Nething. He had lived in Ravenna since 1930.
Mr. Nething served as postmaster in Ravenna and retired from the Ravenna Post Office in 1976.
He began volunteer work for the Ravenna City School at Carlin and West Main schools, where he was a teachers' aide. He worked for eight years in the library at Carlin and devoted himself to his volunteer duty as if it were his full-time job. One summer he bound 7,000 books for children.
A perfectionist who took pride in his work, Mr. Nething enjoyed interacting with the students, staff and faculty. His attitude, demeanor and character made him a role model and friend, and his service to the schools earned him induction into the Ravens Hall of Fame in 1999.
He also received the 1991 "Outstanding School Volunteer Award" for the State of Ohio and the Portage County Senior Citizens Certificate of Achievement in May 2000.
He was a member of First United Methodist Church of Ravenna, where he served on the church board and was a Sunday school teacher.
He enjoyed golf and bowling and was a member of the Portage County Bowlers Hall of Fame.
Survivors include his son, Jack A. (Judy) of Kent; daughter, Judy Malta of Kent; and five grandchildren. His wife, Dorotha, to whom he was married 55 years, died in 1989. His son-in-law, Dr. Domenic Malta, died in 1989.
Calling hours will be held from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at Shorts Funeral Home, Ravenna Chapel, where services will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday, with th Rev. Vernon White officiating. Burial will be in Maple Grove Cemetery in Ravenna.

Alice Thompson, 97
ROOTSTOWN ­ Alice C. Thompson, 97, of Seifer Drive, died Friday, Jan. 12, 2001, at Longmeadow Care Center in Ravenna.
Born Aug. 17, 1903, in Bardstown, Ky., she was the daughter of Edward and Mary (Wimpsatt) Mudd.
Mrs. Thompson was a member of St. Peter of the Fields and St. Joseph Church in Randolph. She also was a member of the Altar and Rosary Society for both churches. She was the last of nine children.
Survivors include her sons, Thomas S. (Lucille) of Randolph and Bernard L. (Ruth) of Tallmadge; daughters, Jane (Leonard) Winland of Rootstown and Jacqueline (Harry) Sines of Manchester; 17 grandchildren; 33 great-grandchildren; and 12 great-great-grandchildren. Her husband, Benjamin L. Thompson Sr., died in 1979. Her sons, Ben L. and Jackson Thompson, a great-granddaughter, four brothers and four sisters also died previously.
Calling hours will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. Monday at Bissler & Sons Funeral Home. Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at St. Peter of the Fields Church in Rootstown, with the Rev. Tom Crum officiating. Burial will be in St. Joseph Cemetery in Randolph.
Memorials may be made to the donor's favorite charity.

Olive Holt, 90
PARIS ­ Olive M. Holt, 90, of 10012 Min Young Road, died Friday, Jan. 12, 2001 at her home of natural causes.
Born Aug. 17, 1910, in Southington, she was the daughter of Charlie and Jessie (Osborne) Lynn.
Mrs. Holt and her husband, Robert, owned and operated hardware stores in West Farmington, North Madison and Jefferson. They also operated a grocery store in West Farmington for a short period of time. She lived in Jefferson and Champion and, in 1965, moved to Middlefield where she lived for 20 years. She lived in Paris Township with her son since 1999. She was formerly of Newton Falls.
Mrs. Holt was a homemaker. She was a member of the West Farmington United Methodist Church and she attended the Newton Falls United Methodist Church. She was a 55-year member of the Phythian Sisters Liberty Temple No. 185 of West Farmington, where she was Past Chief. She enjoyed gardening, crocheting and traveling and loved hunting and fishing with her family.
Survivors include her son, Jacques L. Holt Sr. of Paris Township; daughter, Mrs. James (Jean) Cross of Kalspell, Mont.; four grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren. Her husband, Robert L. Holt, whom she married Dec. 25, 1931, died Dec. 23, 1986.
Calling hours will be held from 7 to 9 p.m. Monday at the United Methodist Church in Newton Falls. The Phythian Sisters of West Farmington will have a service at 6:45 p.m. Monday. Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at the church. Burial will be in the Reformed Cemetery in Southington.
Arrangements are being handled by James Funeral Home in Newton Falls.

Sister Jean Patrice Dunn, 93
Sister Jean Patrice Dunn, the former Anna Mary Dunn, 93, died Saturday, Jan. 13, 2001, at Villa Maria Comity Center in Villa Maria, Pa.
Born Nov. 30, 1907, in Cleveland, she was the daughter of John and Mary (Kilcoyne) Dunn.
Sister Dunn professed her first vows on Aug. 19, 1931, and her final vows Aug. 19, 1934. She was a principal and teacher at St. Patrick's School in Kent from 1955 to 1961. Her active ministry of 58 years was spent in elementary education and in her later years, in prayer ministry and community activities.
Survivors include her sister-in-law, Sally Dunn of West Richfield; and nieces and nephews . Her brothers, Joseph Dunn, Robert M. Dunn, Msgr. William P. Dunn, Rev. John A. Dunn and Francis G. Dunn; and sister Helen Preto all died previously.
Calling hours will be held from 3 to 5 and 6 to 8 p.m. Monday and from 1 to 2:30 p.m. Tuesday at Villa Maria Chapel where a wake service will be held at 7:15 p.m. Monday. Services will be held at 3 p.m. Tuesday at the chapel.
Memorials may be sent to the Sisters of the Humility of Mary, Villa Maria, Pa. 16155.

Elsie Martin, 89
ROOTSTOWN - Elsie M. Martin, 89, died Friday, Jan. 12, 2001, at Robinson Memorial Hospital in Ravenna.
Born Jan. 22, 1911, in Sardis, Ohio, she was the daughter of Jacob and Mary Belle (Shaw) Riggenbach. She lived in Rootstown for more than 50 years.
Mrs. Martin was a homemaker.
She was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Ravenna for more than 55 years. She also belonged to the Rootstown 60-Plus Club, the Tuesday Homemakers, the New Roots Garden Club and the First United Methodist Church Willing Workers Class.
Survivors include her sons, Donald (Jean) of Mantua and Richard of Kent; daughters, Esther (Robert) Crabtree of Columbus and Mary Kay (Dale) Mizer of Ravenna; nine grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; two step-great-grandchildren; brothers, Edwin Riggenbach of Edinburg and Oscar Riggenbach of Ravenna; and sister, Irene Siska of Silver Springs, Md. Her husband, Clarence, died in 1987. A sister, Olive Snell, and a great-grandson also died previously.
Calling hours will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. Monday at Shorts Funeral Home, Ravenna Chapel where services will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday with the Rev. Vernon White officiating. Burial will be in Maple Grove Cemetery in Ravenna.
Memorials may be made to the First United Methodist Church of Ravenna or to the Portage County Society for the Blind.

Gary Difford, 50
Gary L. Difford, 50, of 249 Woodland St., Newton Falls, died Friday, Jan. 12, 2001, at St. Joseph's Health Care in Warren after a lengthy illness.
Born July 14, 1950, in Warren, he was the son of Robert and Audrey (Frederick) Difford.
Mr. Difford was employed at WCI for more than 29 years.
Survivors include his wife, Darlene (Peterson) Difford, whom he married July 18, 1987; sons, Anthony Difford of Cincinnati and Michael Popadak at home; daughters, Tracie Mocella of West Farmington and Sandra Popadak at home; two granddaughters; brothers, Robert Difford of Orwell, Shawn Difford of Chardon, Charles Church of West Farmington, Timothy Church of Southington, Junior Church of Johnston and Richard Church of West Farmington; sisters, Barbara Church of Warren, Debbie Dale of West Farmington, Barb Allison of Middlefield and Linda Swick of Champion. His brother, William Church, died previously.
Cremation has taken place. Calling hours will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday at Borowski Memorial Home in Newton Falls.

James "Bud" Woods Jr., 91
James "Bud" Edward Woods Jr., 91, of Alliance, died Friday, Jan. 12, 2001, at McCrea Manor.
Born Oct. 18, 1909, in Bridgeport, Ohio, he was a son of James Edward and Luella (Darrah) Woods. He lived in Atwater from 1948 to 1990 when he moved to the Alliance area.
Mr. Woods retired from Teledyne Monarch of Hartville. He also was a laborer for Alliance Wire and Crane.
He was a member of Atwater Baptist Church.
Survivors include his daughter, Patricia Schmitt of Alliance; two grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; brothers, Herbert and Lester of Alliance and John of Minerva; and sister, Martha Elceser of Davenport, Iowa. His wife, Helen Elizabeth (Hanson), whom he married Dec. 21, 1929, died in 1983. His brother, Kenneth ; and sisters, Luella M. Harding and Edith Theaker, also died previously.
Visitation will be held from noon until services at 1 p.m. Monday at Walton-Schrader Funeral Home, 1131 W. State St. in Alliance. The Rev. Tim Black will officiate. Burial will be in Highland Memorial Park.

Edward G. Buell, 60
Former Mantua resident Edward Gilbert Buell, 60, of Dallas, Texas, died Jan. 8, 2001, in Texas, following a long battle with larynx cancer.
Born Feb. 22, 1940, in Ravenna, he was the son of Frank and Mary Ellen (Echelberry) Buell. He had lived in Mantua prior to moving to Dallas.
Mr. Buell was a deputy in Dallas before his illness.
He was a veteran of the U.S. Marines, having trained in California in 1959. He spent his years of service in Okinawa and Japan.
In addition to his parents, who live in Mantua, survivors include his wife, Marilyn; and sister, Susan Wilson of Wilston, Fla. His brother, Frederick F. Buell, died Aug. 12, 2000.
No local services will be held. Burial will be in New Veterans Cemetery in Dallas.
