Teresa Defer
Teresa Defer, 94, of Twinsburg Township, died Monday June 21, 1999, at her home.
Born Oct. 29, 1904 in Chicago, Ill., she was the daughter of Antonio and Josephine (Caravarto) Antonietti. Formerly of Streetsboro, she lived in Twinsburg for the past 32 years.
Mrs. Defer was a homemaker.
Survivors include her daughter, Mrs. James (Marjorie) Thomas of Streetsboro; seven grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; and six great-great-grandchildren. Her husband, Michael E., died Feb. 9, 1977. Her son, Ernest, died April 5, 1984.
Calling hours will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Shorts Funeral Home in Streetsboro, where services will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, with the Rev. Steven Hutchinson officiating. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery in Streetsboro.
Memorials may be made to Hospice of Western Reserve, 6175 SOM Center Rd., Solon, Ohio 44139.

Pearl McKenzie
Pearl L. McKenzie, 79, of Ravenna, died Sunday, June 20, 1999 at Cleveland Clinic following several months of failing health.
Born Nov. 17, 1919 in Meyersdale, Pa., she was the daughter of Henry and Mae (Jones) Shockey. She was an area resident most of her life.
Mrs. McKenzie retired in 1981 from Ametek-Lamb Electric Co. in Kent after 25 years.
Survivors include her daughter, Darlene; brother, Harold Shockey of Johnstown, Pa.; and sisters, Verda Werner of Finzel, Md., and Charlotte Willey of Barberton. Her husband, Raymond C., died in March 1998.
Services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at Durst Funeral Home, 57 Frost Ave., Frostburg, Md., with Mr. Benny Werner officiating. Burial will be in Finzel (Md.) Cemetery.

Darrell Patterson
Darrell Patterson, 63, of Ravenna, died Monday, June 21, 1999, at Robinson Memorial Hospital in Ravenna.
Born June 17, 1936 in Northfield, he was the son of Wilson E. and Teresa (VanWormer) Patterson.
He was a 30-year resident of Ravenna.
Mr. Patterson was employed in maintenance for Riddle Properties and Simco Management.
He attended Bethel Baptist Church and was a member of the Ravenna Eagles, Ravenna V.F.W., Ravenna American Legion and the Ravenna Rod and Gun Club. He was a U.S. Army veteran.
Survivors include his wife, Ruth Ann (Lansky), to whom he was married 22 years; daughter, Theresa Hamilton of Ravenna; brother, Dana of Florida; sisters, Margie Berry of Florida and Jenny Whigham of Kentucky; four grandchildren; and mother, Teresa VanWormer of Kentucky. A brother and a sisters died previously.
Calling hours will be held from 6 to 9 p.m. Thursday at Shorts Funeral Home, Ravenna Chapel. Graveside services will be held at 1 p.m. Friday at Maple Grove Cemetery in Ravenna, with the Rev. Richard Skiver officiating.
Memorials may be made to the Ravenna American Legion or Ravenna Eagles.

Timothy Moff
ROOTSTOWN - Timothy L. Moff, 35, died Sunday, June 20, 1999.
Born Feb. 25, 1964 in Ravenna, he was the son of Thomas and Delores (Memmer) Moff. He was a 1983 Rootstown High School graduate.
Mr. Moff had worked for Paeco Rubber for 13 years.
He was an avid fisherman and outdoorsman.
Survivors include his wife, Lauretta (Farmer); brothers, James Moff and Edward Baer Jr., both of Rootstown; stepsisters, Rebecca Uhl and Melaney Powell, both of Akron; mother, Delores Baer of Rootstown; and grandmother, Agnes Memmer.
Calling hours will be held from 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday at Wood-Kortright Funeral Home, Ravenna Chapel, where services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, with the Rev. C.T. Mathews officiating.

Janet Caris
Janet Ruth Caris, 94, of Ravenna, died Monday, June 21, 1999, at Maple Wood Care Centre of Streetsboro.
Born July 28, 1904 in Mt. Pleasant, Pa., she was the daughter of Braden and Hattie (Wakefield) Pore. She had lived in Ravenna since 1920.
Mrs. Caris was a retired nurse.
She was a member of First United Methodist Church of Ravenna.
Survivors include her adopted daughter, Dorothy Olds of Virginia. Her husband, Charles, died in October, 1971. Her sisters, Jean Decker and Helen Evans, died previously.
Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday at Maple Grove Cemetery in Ravenna, with the Rev. Thomas Poremba officiating. Arrangements were made by Shorts Funeral Home, Ravenna Chapel.

Carol Loftin
Carol June Loftin, 71, of Ravenna, died Sunday, June 20, 1999, at her home following a long illness.
Survivors include her husband, Herbert; sons, Leigh (Loren) of Rock Island, Ill., Herbert L. (Karen) and Richard (Renee) both of Ravenna,and daughters, Susan (Anthony) Johnson of Akron, Jennifer (John) Miller of Kent, Melanie Henson (Ed) Kaminski of Kent, Debra (Anthony) Howze of Charlotte, N.C.; 10 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren; and sister, JoAnn Proctor of Kent.
There will be no calling hours. A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday in the Maple Grove Cemetery Chapel of Ravenna, with the Rev. Anthony Johnson officiating. Wood-Kortright Funeral Home, Ravenna Chapel, is handling arrangements.
Condolences may be sent to 4241 Arbeco St., Ravenna.

Helen Corrigan
NELSON - Helen M. Corrigan, 83, died Monday, June 21, 1999, at Robinson Memorial Hospital, Ravenna.
Born June 23, 1915 in Cleveland, she was the daughter of Stephen and Rose Nagy.
Mrs. Corrigan was a homemaker.
She was a member of St. Ambrose Church in Garrettsville.
Survivors include her son, Anthony J. of Kansas City, Kan.; daughters, Peggy (Michael) Purcell of Cleveland, Marcia J. (Jon Sr.) Jastromb of Hudson and Kathy (Joseph) Leman of Parkman; 12 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and sister, Judy Nagy of Cleveland. Her husband, Joseph T., died in 1986. A brother, Louis, also died previously.
Calling hours will be held from 6 to 9 p.m. Thursday at Mallory-DeHaven-Carlson Funeral Home in Garrettsville. Services will be held at 10 a.m. Friday at St. Ambrose Church in Garrettsville, with the Rev. Richard Pentello officiating. Burial will be in Overlook Cemetery in Parkman.

Daniel H. Curran
STREETSBORO - Daniel H. Curran, 65, died Monday, Dec. 28, 1998.
Arrangements to be announced by Shorts Funeral Home, Streetsboro Chapel.

Patricia Beatty
Patricia Ann (Spangenberger) Beatty, 58, of Fargo, N.D., a former Kent resident, died Sunday Dec. 20, 1998, in Fargo.
Local services will be announced by Bissler and Sons Funeral Home in Kent.

Catherine Zern
Catherine (Stofko) Zern, 62, of Ravenna, died Wednesday, Dec. 23, 1998.
Survivors include her sons, John H. and David M.;daughters, Lynn Ann (Thomas P.) Werden, Mary Margaret (Lewis) Brown; six grandchildren; and sister, Leona Callahan;. Her husband, Francis H., two brothers, and four sisters died previously.
Calling hours will be held from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at Johnson-Romito Funeral Home, 521 Broadway, Bedford. Services will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday at St. Joan of Arc Catholic Church in Streetsboro. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery in Streetsboro.

David Kellogg
David W. Kellogg, 75, of RomeTownship, Ohio, died Tuesday, Dec. 22, at University Hospital in Cleveland after a sudden illness.
Born July 3, 1923 in Rome Township, he was the son of W.H. and Susie G. (Hawkins) Kellogg. He was a resident of Rome Township all his life.
Mr. Kellogg owned and operated the Grand River Jersey Farm in Rome Township.
He was an elder of the Rome Presbyterian Church. He was the recipient of many local, state and national honors for owning high-producing Jersey dairy cattle. He served as a Rome volunteer firefighter for many years, was a Rome Township Trustee for 26 years, completing his term in office in 1989. He also served on the advisory board to Ohio State University Extension.
Survivors include his wife, Pauline (Smerik), whom he married July 3, 1948; sons, Chris Hiestan of Orwell, David Lee of Rome Township, Daniel T. of Kinsman, Timothy M. of Columbus and Eric L. of Russell Springs, Ky.; 11 grandchildren; brothers, Richard H. of Columbus and Clarence of Garland, Pa.; and sisters, Susanna McCarthy of Newton Falls and Martha Smerik of Warren. His daughters, Colleen and Carole died previously.
Calling hours will be held from 6 to 9 p.m. Monday at the Fleming Funeral Home in Jefferson, Ohio. Services will be held at a later date.

Earl Welcome Jr.
WINDHAM - Earl Bernard Welcome, Jr., 71, died Wednesday, Dec. 23, 1998, at Robinson Memorial Hospital in Ravenna after a long illness.
Born Sept. 9, 1927 in Marquette, Mich., he was the son of Earl and Agnes (Maltby) Welcome.
Mr. Welcome worked for Conrail for 28 years.
He served in the U.S. Army.
Survivors include his sons, Curtis, William, Michael and Ronald, all of Windham, and Thomas of Newton Falls; daughters, Elaine McCleary of Cortland, Carol Murphy of Windham and Kathy Scoville of Ravenna; 19 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and sister Ginny Carlson of Pelkie, Mich. His wife, Norma Belle (Martin), whom he married April 2, 1949, died Dec. 26, 1968. His son, Earl Bernard Welcome III died Sept. 20, 1969.
There will be no calling hours. Private services will be held. Burial will be in Windham Township Cemetery.
Arrangements were handled by Mallory-DeHaven-Carlson Funeral Home in Garrettsville.

Patrica Miskel
Patricia A. Miskel, 61, of Ravenna, died Thursday, Dec. 24, 1998, in Akron.
She was born July 3, 1937.
Mrs. Miskel had worked for Hiram College and Maplewood Care Center in Streetsboro.
She was a member of Eastern Star Chapter No. 32 in Mantua. She was a member of A.A. for 20 years.
Survivors include her husband, Jerrie; daughter, Karrie Kay (John) Mikotowicz of N.J.; brother, Donald (Judy) Heasley of Ravenna; and two grandchildren. Her son, Philip; and daughter, Mitzi Sue died previously.
Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society.

Donald Robinson
CHARLESTOWN - Donald Max Robinson Sr., 59, died Wednesday, Dec. 23, 1998, at Robinson Memorial Hospital in Ravenna.
Born May 25, 1939 in Uniontown, Pa., he was the son of Hugh D. and Pearl Robinson. He had lived in Ravenna until moving to Charlestown 11 years ago.
Mr. Robinson was formerly employed as an inspector with Allside of Akron.
Survivors include his wife, Dessie D. (Cummons); son, Donald Max (Diane) Robinson Jr. of Ravenna; daughter, Mrs. Danny (Beth) Turner of Ravenna; brothers, Hugh Robinson Jr. of Brady Lake and Charles of Ravenna; and sister, Mrs. Don (Dorothy) Applegate of Toledo; four grandchildren; and one great-grandson. His brother, Bill Robinson died previously.
Services will be held at 1 p.m. Monday at the Wood-Kortright Funeral Home, Ravenna Chapel, with the Rev. Wayne Cummings officiating. Burial will be in the Charlestown Cemetery.

Angelina Mustacchio
MANTUA - Angelina Mustacchio, 94, died Wednesday, Dec. 23, 1998, at the Chardon Center Nursing Facility in Chardon.
Born Nov. 7, 1904 in Cleveland, as Angelina Fazio, she had previously resided in Cleveland, was formerly a 10 year resident of Willoughby and had lived in Mantua for the last three years.
Survivors include her daughter, Mary Jane Chinn (Dallas) of Mantua; six grandchildren; brothers, Samuel Fazio and Peter Fazio; sisters, Josephine Zankie, Helen Calta, Lena Bellito and Molly Mraz (Corneila); six grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren. Her husbands, Joseph Astorino in 1965 and Eugene Mustacchio in 1985; son, Thomas Astorino; daughter, Gloria M. Laws; and brother, Ralph Fazio, died previously.
Calling hours will be held from 3 to 6 p.m. Sunday at the McMahon-Coyne Funeral Home, 38001 Euclid Ave., Willoughby. Services will be held at 11:30 a.m. Monday at the Immaculate Conception Church, 37950 Euclid Ave., Willoughby, with the Rev. Raymond Hamlin officiating. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery in Cleveland.

Richard Barb
ROOTSTOWN - Richard A. Barb, 68, died Friday, Dec. 25, 1998, at Robinson Memorial Hospital in Ravenna following a period of failing health.
Born Aug. 31, 1930 in Parsons, W.Va., he was the son of Claude and Gladys (Kalar) Barb. Formerly of Cuyahoga Falls, he had lived in Rootstown the last 20 years.
Mr. Barb was employed for 36 years as an assembly worker at Ford Motor Company in Walton Hills, retiring in 1993. He also worked for many years as a movie projectionist at the Kent Cinemas and Wadsworth Cinemas, an enjoyment he had since his teenage years at movie theater's in West Virginia
He was a member of the Family of Jesus Fellowship Church in Ravenna.
Survivors include his wife, Verna (Knotts), whom he married Dec. 8, 1948; sons, Steven (Linda) of Winston-Salem, N.C. and David of Bucyrus; daughters, Cathy (Larry) Angel of Garrettsville and Debbie (Bob) Kruger of Tallmadge; sisters, Judy Thomas of Charleston, S.C. and Barbara Gamble of Atlanta, Ga.; 15 grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
Calling hours will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. Monday at Green's Funeral Home in Mantua, where services will be held Tuesday at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Sam Goebel officiating. Burial will be in the Rootstown Cemetery.

Dustin M. Kollman
SHALERSVILLE - Dustin M. Kollman, 9, died Wednesday, Dec. 23, 1998, at Robinson Memorial Hospital in Ravenna.
Born Sept. 13, 1989 in Bedford, he was the son of Greg and Rhonda (Spence) Kollman. He was a lifetime Shalersville resident. He attended Happy Day School in Brady Lake.
Aside from his parents, survivors include a brother, Deacon, of Shalersville; sisters, Stephanie and Samantha, both of Shalersville; grandparents, Coy and Rebecca Spence of Twinsburg; and great-grandmothers, Evelyn Ross of Twinsburg and Emma Williamson of W.Va. His grandparents, Gilbert and Lois Kollman, died previously.
Calling hours will be held from 10 to 11:30 a.m. Saturday, when a service will begin at Green's Funeral Home in Mantua with the Rev. Will Stackhouse officiating. Burial will follow in Riverside Cemetery in Shalersville.
Memorials may be made to the Mantua-Shalersville Fire Department Rescue Squad or to Happy Day School.

Albert J. Nichols
A memorial service will be held for Albert J. Nichols, 74, at 1 p.m. Saturday at the First United Methodist Church in Ravenna with the Rev. Tom Poremba officiating. Cremation has taken place.
Mr. Nichols died Dec. 4 in Ocala, Fla.

Phillip Hayden
AKRON - Phillip Hayden, 82, of Rockynol Residence, Akron, died Saturday, Dec. 19, 1998.
Born Dec. 29, 1916 in Chardon, he was the son of Ai Hayden and Maude (Keyes) Hayden. Mr. Hayden formerly lived in Munroe Falls for many years.
He was an office equipment repairman for many years.
Mr. Hayden was a member of Assembly of God Church in Akron and the Cathedral of Tomorrow. He also taught Sunday school for 30 years.
Survivors include his wife, Winnie of Rockynol Residence; daughters, Sandra (Harry) Watson and Iris Hayden; three grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Calling hours will be from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Tuesday at the Ciriello Funeral Home, Rose Hill Chapel, 3653 W. Market St., followed by services at 1 p.m. Graveside services will be at 2:30 p.m. at Grandview Cemetery, Ravenna, where friends are asked to meet at the cemetery chapel.
Memorials may be made to the Lifecare Fund at the Rockynol Residence.

James Colwell
GARRETTSVILLE - James T. Colwell, 49, of S.R. 88 died Saturday, Dec. 19, 1998.
Born July 29, 1949 in Youngstown, he was the son of William and June (Steele) Colwell. He was a life resident of the area.
Mr. Colwell was a plating attendant at Thomas Steel Strip for 11 years. He had previously been employed at U.S. Steel and Venture Plastics.
A graduate of Austintown Fitch High School, he attended Youngstown State University and Tuscalum College. He was a member of the Warren YMCA, and had coached YMWSL softball in Austintown.
He was a U.S. Navy veteran of the Vietnam War.
Survivors include his wife, Betty A. (Winterstein) of Garrettsville; his parents of Austintown; and a sister, Mrs. James (Ruth) Hall of Chagrin Falls. A stepson, David Alexander, died previously.
Calling hours will be from 7 to 9 tonight at Robert H. Roberts-Clark Memorial Home in Warren. Services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Nelson United Methodist Church in Nelson Township.
Memorials may be made to the memorial fund at the church of the donor's faith.
