Harold Erwin Sapp
Harold Erwin Sapp, 76, died Monday, April 20, 1998, at T.J. Samson Community Hospital in Scottsville, Ky. following a sudden illness.
Born in Ravenna, he was the son of the late Harry Alvin Sapp and Mabel (Clapp) Sapp.
Mr. Sapp was retired from Pet Milk Co. and Farmers National Bank.
He was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Scottsville, and the Jolly Rogers 90th. Bomb Group (H). He was an avid golfer.
Survivors include his sons, Robert A.and Michael S., both of Scottsville; daughters, Carol Marsh and Susan Williams, both of Scottsville, and Mary Alice Wilkinson of Louisville, Ky.; 10 grandchildren; brother, Merle of Kent, Wash.; and many local nephews and nieces. His wife, Carolyn (Baxter); and brother, Lloyd A. Sr., died previously.
Services were held on April 23 at T.W. Crow and Son Funeral Chapel in Scottsville. Burial was in Scottsville. Condolences may be sent to the family at 378 Oliver St., Scottsville, Ky. 42164.

Boyd A. McClellan
Boyd A. McClellan, 85, died Monday, April 27, 1998, after a battle with lung cancer.
Born in Decatur, Mich., he had resided in Mogadore for 65 years. He most recently resided at Stow-Glen in Stow.
Mr. McClellan retired in 1978 from N.R.M. as manager of engineering scheduling.
He was a member of Hilltop Christian Church in Mantua, American Society of Mechanical Engineers, Mt. Akra Masonic Lodge No. 680Order of the Eastern Star, Mystic Chapter No. 32 of Mantua.
Survivors include his wife, Jean (Atchison); daughters, Gloria (Patrick) Finnegan of Dallas, Texas, Judy (John) Jakubisin of Arlington, Texas, and Connie (Bob) Moore of Brimfield; stepdaughter Janelle (Walter) Jarosh of Pittsburgh, Pa.; stepson, Robert (Rose Marie) Groves of Mountain Lakes, N.J.; seven grandchildren; 10 stepgrandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and 6 step great-grandchildren. His first wife, Olive, granddaughter, Lori Jakubisin, and stepdaughter, Betty Copp, died previously.
Calling hours will be held from 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday at Hopkins Lawver Funeral Home im Mogadore, where Masonic services will be held at 7:30 p.m. A graveside service and burial will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at Greenwood Cemetery in Mogadore, with the Rev. Will Stackhouse officiating.
Memorials may be made to American Cancer Society, 3250 W. Market St., Akron 44333 or the Portage County Visiting Nurse Service and Hospice, 234 S. Water St., Kent 44240.

James E. Adkins
STREETSBORO - Services will be at 7 p.m. tonight for James E. Adkins, 59, a 30-year resident and former local UAW officer, died Monday, April 20, 1998, at the Hospice of the Western Reserve in Cleveland following a seven-year battle with cancer.
Born Nov. 11, 1938 in Huntington, W.Va., he was the son of Clarence and Gladys Adkins.
Mr. Adkins worked for the Ford Motor Company at the Walton Hills stamping plant for 36 years, where he was also a long-time union officer of UAW Local 420. At various times, he was production chairman, and employee support services representative, chairman of the recreation committee and the bylaws committee. He was also editor of the "Stamper", the union newspaper, and recording secretary for the local. He retired Sept. 1, 1995.
Mr. Adkins was formerly a leader of Boy Scout Troop 888 in Walton Hills, former manager of the Streetsboro Little League, and a former member of the Bedford Eagles.
He was an avid Cleveland Browns and Cleveland Indians fan, and loved Las Vegas, making numerous trips to visit.
Survivors include his wife, Barbara of Streetsboro; sons, Jeff of Streetsboro, Chris (Kathy) of Dewitt, Mich., David (Tammy) of Ravenna; five grandchildren; mother, Gladys Englebrecht of Mentor; brothers, Gary, Fred and Mike, all of the Cleveland area; and sisters, Norma, Linda, Ida and Gloria, all of the Cleveland area; His sons, Timonthy and Theodore; father, and sister, Beulah, all died previously.
Visitation will be held at 6 p.m. with services starting at 7 p.m. at Ferfolia Funeral Home, 356 W. Aurora Road, Sagamore Hills.

F. Pauline North
F. Pauline North, 77 of East Summit Street, Kent, died Sunday, April 19, 1998, at Robinson Memorial Hospital in Ravenna.
Born July 14, 1920 in Charlestown, she was the daughter of Charles Arthur and Augusta Caroline (Ensele) Hickman. She was a 1938 graduate of Charlestown High School and a 1943 graduate of the People's Hospital School of Nursing.
Mrs. North was a nurse for many years at Robinson Memorial Hospital and then retired from Akron General Hospital.
She was an avid golfer and bowler. She enjoyed dancing, travel, needlepoint and the Cleveland Indians.
Survivors include her sons, Paul D. (Mary Anne) of Ravenna and Steven M. (Laurie) of Green Bay, Wis.; daughters, Maureen A. (Larry) Barnes of Akron, Patricia A. (Jim) Gless of Kent and Janice M. (Cal) Edgell of Tolleson, Ariz.; eight grandchildren; one great-grandchild; brothers, Arthur Hickman of Palmetto, Fla., and James Hickman of Westerville; sister, Lorena Sherrett of Cincinnati; and friend, Frank J. Raber. Her daughter, Mary Ruth; brother, John Hickman; and sister, Ruth Keegan, died previously.
Calling hours will be held from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at Bissler & Sons Funeral Home in Kent. Services will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday at St. Patrick Church in Kent. Burial will be in Charlestown Township Cemetery.

Edward Carpenter
Edward L. Carpenter, 80, of Ravenna, died Monday at Robinson Memorial Hospital in Ravenna.
Born Sept. 30, 1917 in Akron, he was the son of Ora and Martha (Martin) Carpenter. He had lived in Ravenna most of his life.
Mr. Carpenter retired in 1976 from North American Rockwell Corporation in Newton Falls, where he was an inspector.
He was a member of First United Methodist Church of Ravenna, Unity Masonic Lodge No. 12 in Ravenna and York Rite Bodies and Ravenna Chapter of the Order of the Eastern Star, No. 46.
Survivors include his wife, Charlotte (Keevert), to whom he was married 60 years; son, Thomas (June) of Augusta, Ga.; daughters, Judith Lynn Perrine of Houston, Texas and Lu Ann (Clifford) Sage of Rootstown; 11 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and sister, Pauline Hensley of Hudson. His brothers, Monroe and Douglas, and sisters, Beatrice Carpenter, Opal Corkrean, Mary Williams and Dorothy Hickman, died previously.
Visitation will be held from 1 p.m. until services at 2 p.m. Thursday at Shorts Funeral Home, Ravenna Chapel. Masonic services will be held Thursday at 1 p.m. The Rev. Tom Poremba will officiate. Burial will be in Maple Grove Cemetery in Ravenna.

Betty Mosher
AURORA - Betty L. "Betsy" Mosher, 76, died Monday, April 20, 1998 at St. Luke's Hospital in Cleveland.
Born Jan. 19, 1922, she was a longtime resident of Aurora.
Mrs. Mosher was a homemaker.
She is survived by her husband, Earl.
Calling hours will be held from 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at Stroud-Lawrence Funeral Home, 95 Franklin St., Chagrin Falls, where services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday.

Glenn Fertig IV
Glenn Elmer Fertig IV, the 4-month-old son of Sarah (Wendell) and Glenn E. Fertig III of 3908 Nassau Court, Austintown, died Monday, April 20, 1998, in Austintown of Sudden Infant Death Syndrome.
He was born Dec. 20, 1997 in Youngstown.
In addition to his parents, survivors include his sisters, Cassandra and Bridgett, at home; grandparents, John and Marjary Waddell of Austintown and Glenn II and Mary Fertig of Deerfield; and great-grandparents Jack (Louise) Waddell of Boardman, Sarah Messer of Antigo, Wis., Mrs. Glenn (Flora) Fertig of Kent, Ethel McClaren and Bessie Clark, both of Rockingham, N.C. His grandmother, Lynn Ann Thomas, died previously.
Calling hours will be held from 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday at Lane Funeral Home, Austintown Chapel. Services will be at 10 a.m. on Friday at Western Reserve United Methodist Church.

Joseph Vieland
Joseph Vieland, 83, of Ravenna, died Monday at his home.
Born June 7, 1914 in Mantua, he is the son of Anton and Elizabeth (Reis) Roland. Formerly of Mantua, he had been a Ravenna resident for 36 years.
Mr. Vieland was a truck driver for Elmer C. Brewer Trucking Co. in Cleveland.
He was a member of the Italian-American Club in Ravenna, Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 1055, Masonic Lodge No. 533 in Mantua, Fraternal Order of the Eagles Aerie No. 2164 in Ravenna and Ravenna American Legion Post No. 311.
An avid golfer, Mr. Vieland had hit four holes-in-one.
Survivors include his son, Robert (Nancy) of Ravenna; daughter, Mrs. Herm (Janette) Minor of Ravenna; four grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and sister, Irene Kerner of Florida. His wife, Eleanor, died in 1983. His brothers, William and John, died previously.
There will be no calling hours. Cremation has taken place. Burial will be at 10 a.m. Thursday in Westlawn Cemetery in Mantua, with the Rev. Carl Holm officiating. Arrangements are being handled by Shorts Funeral Home, Ravenna Chapel.

Susan Reardon
Susan Reardon, 51, of Lake Milton, died unexpectedly Monday, April 20, 1998.
Born Feb. 8, 1947, in Ravenna, she was the daughter of Russell and Betty (Church) Girton of Rootstown.
Mrs. Reardon was a behavior specialist at the Portage Childrens' Center for many years.
She was active in the Girl Scouts. She also enjoyed quilting and collecting teapots.
Survivors include her son, Michael of Ravenna; daughter Mrs. Stacy (Louie) Savage of Twin Lakes; brothers, Thomas (Elizabeth) Girton of Ashville, N.C., Dave (Renee) Girton of Lake Milton; and sister, Kathryn (Joseph) Rook of Peachtree City, Ga.
Calling hours will be held from 6 to 9 p.m. Thursday at Wood-Kortright Funeral Home, Ravenna Chapel, where services will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday. Private burial will be in Homeland Cemetery in Rootstown.
Memorials may be made to the Foundation for Asthma Research.

Dorothy Haythorne
AURORA - Dortha Ann (Robinson) Haythorne, 80, an Aurora resident for 50 years, died Sunday, April 19, 1998.
Born June 9, 1917, in Gilmer County, W. Va., she was the daughter of James Obert and Myrtle May (Thompson) Robinson.
Mrs. Haythorne had worked as a dish grinder at Walker China in Cleveland.
Survivors include her son, James McHenry; daughter, Ann (Teri Wayne Sr.) Sprouse; seven grandchildren; six step-grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and sisters Ellen, Regal, and Tressie Robinson, Lucille Hensley, and Erma Boyles. Her brothers, Hayward, George, Floda, Earl and Robert Robinson, died previously.
Calling hours will be held from 7 to 9 p.m. Friday at Kindrich-McHugh Steinbauer Funeral Home, 33375 Bainbridge Road in Solon, where services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday.

Kenneth Bailey
Kenneth Eugene Bailey, 88, a former area resident, died Sunday at Meadville Health and Rehab Center in Meadville, Pa.
Born Dec. 16, 1909 in Warren Township, he was the son of Walter and Catherine Bailey. He was a former resident of Newton Falls and Freedom Township.
Mr. Bailey worked at Rockwell International in Newton Falls for 15 years before moving to Pennsylvania, where he worked for the highway department in Crawford County.
Survivors include his wife, Ruth (King), formerly of Brimfield, whom he married June 16, 1938; sons, Richard E. of Orwell, Donald L. (Carol) of Linesville, Pa. and Wayne A. of Conneautville, Pa.; daughter, Mrs. Gary (Katherine A.) Swartout of Cuyahoga Heights; six grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; brother, Harold of Newton Falls; and sisters, Harriet Bailey and Rebecca Cetina of Warren and Ruth Gordon of Moraine. Four brothers and one sister died previously.
Visitation will be held at 1 p.m. today, followed by services at 2 p.m. at White-Cool Funeral Home, 1405 Main St., Conneautville, Pa. Burial will be in Rundel Cemetery in Rundel, Pa.
Memorials may be made to Norrisville United Methodist Church, in care of Keith Curtis, 17494 S. Norrisville Road, Conneautville, Pa., 16406.

Harold B. Smallwood
STREETSBORO - Harold B. Smallwood, 63, died Sunday, April 19, 1998, at Robinson Memorial Hospital in Ravenna.
Born Jan. 29, 1935 in Tuscumbia, Ala., he was the son of Otis and Ethel (Foust) Smallwood. Formerly of Cleveland, he had been a Streetsboro resident for the past 35 years.
Mr. Smallwood worked in the engineering department of the Brecksville Veterans Administration Hospital, retiring in 1990 after 30 years of service.
A U.S. Navy veteran of World War II, he was a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 3532 in Akron. He was an avid fisherman and gardener and enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren.
Survivors include his wife, Rosemary (Nakoneczny), whom he married Sept. 2, 1958; sons, David of Windham, Dennis (Jane) of Hiram, and Dan of Cleveland; daughter, Mrs. Rodney (Debra) Alderman of Cuyahoga Falls; eight grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; mother, Ethel Carlyle of Cleveland; brothers, William (Gladys) of Cleveland and Jerry (Brenda) of Lewisville, Texas; and sister, Barbara Roeder of Cleveland. His father and brother, Clarence Lee, died previously.
There will be no calling hours or services. Cremation has taken place with arrangements handled by Green's Funeral Home in Mantua.

Floyd Wilhelm
A memorial service will be held Saturday in Atwater for Floyd E. Wilhelm, 83, a former Atwater resident, who died Nov. 4, 1997, at Pacific Hills Manor in Morgan Hill, Calif.
Born Nov. 4, 1914, in Alliance, he was the son of Sumner and Cora (Taylor) Wilhelm. He had lived on a farm in Atwater and graduated from Atwater High School in 1932. He was a resident of Limaville from 1940 until 1962.
Mr. Wilhelm was a hammerman at Transue and Williams Steel Forging Co. in Alliance. He was also a carpenter in the Summit and Portage County areas until moving to California, where he worked as a carpenter for 26 years. Following his retirement in 1978, he served as a Pinkerton Security officer for more than 14 years.
He was a caller for many area square dances including the Reister's Good Time Party, held in the Atwater Town Hall ,and dances held in the Lexington Grange.
Survivors include his wife Virginia, to whom he was married 23 years; son, Jay S. of Sealy, Texas; daughter, Donna Lee Gunn of Dade City, Fla.; stepdaughter, Judith Costa of Cupertino, Calif.; nine grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; brother, Jasper E. of Randolph; and sister, Mable Hambleton of Hudson. His brother, Delson, and sisters, Lucille Slabaugh and Edna Johnson, died previously.
Cremation took place in California. A memorial service will be held at 3:30 p.m. Saturday at the Atwater Congregational United Church of Christ, with the Rev. Joseph Peters officiating. Burial will be in Marlboro Cemetery. Local arrangements were made by Wood-Kortright Funeral Home, Atwater Chapel.

Orla Marks
Orla Marks, 90, of Silver Oaks Drive in Kent, died Friday, April 17, 1998, at Maison Aine in Stow.
She was born Aug. 10, 1907 in Burritts Rapids, Ontario, Canada.
Mrs. Marks had worked for Awrey Bakeries in Detroit, retiring in 1972 and moving to the Akron area. She was an ordained Spiritualist minister and had her own church in Kent for several years.
She enjoyed driving all over the United States and made several cross country trips by herself after age 70.
Survivors include her daughters, Mrs. Joe (Phylis) Berthelot of Stow, Mrs. Mike (Olive) Morrell of Garden Grove, Calif., Margaret Lisuk of Detroit, Frances Harrington of Charleston, S.C. and Carol Marks of Las Vegas; and more than 11 grandchildren. Her husbands, Charles Macabe and Frank Marks, sons, Kenneth and William Macabe, twin brother James Todd, sister, Betty Grant and grandson, James Macabe, died previously.
Cremation has taken place. Burial will be in Grandlawn Cemetery in Detroit. A memorial service will be held at a later date at Redmon Funeral Home in Stow, with the Rev. Tim Brainard officiating.
Memorials may be made to Maison Aine, 2910 L'Ermitage Place, Stow 44224.

Anne Susong
Anne G. Susong, 84, of Merriman Road, Akron, died Thursday, April 16, 1998 at Sumner on Merriman Home.
Born April 11, 1914 in Nanty Glo, Pa., she was the daughter of John and Mary (Komperda) Gall.
Mrs. Susong graduated from Cleveland Hospital as a registered nurse.
She was a member of the Annunciation Catholic Church in Akron, past president of the PTA at East High School in Akron, and was active in the girl scouts at Camp Ledgewood and the Phi Mu mothers.
Survivors include her son, Carl F. (Jeanne) of Highland Village, Texas; daughters, Mrs. Mary Lou (Thomas) Olson of Kent, Mrs. Michael (Margaret Ann) Freedman of Hudson, Mrs. William A. (Katherine) Wood of Suffield; 10 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; sister, Helen Gallese of Bedford; and son-in-law, John P. Nash of St. Augustine, Fla. Her husband, Charles K., died in 1981. Her daughter, Helen Jane Nash, died in 1986.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Annunciation Catholic Church in Akron, with the Rev. Paul Rosing officiating. Private burial will be in Stow Cemetery. Arrangements were made by Bissler & Sons Funeral Home in Kent.
Memorials may be made to the Alzheimer's Association, Akron Tri-County Chapter, 157 W. Cedar St., Akron.

Austin Gibbs
Austin Charles Gibbs, the 28-day-old infant son of Shane Gibbs and Angela Merino, both of Ravenna, died Thursday, April 16 at Children's Hospital Medical Center in Akron.
He was born March 19, 1998 in Akron.
In addition to his parents, survivors include hisgrandparents, Charlie Merino of Ravenna, Cindy Merino, Debbie Gibbs of Lake Milton and Jack Gibbs of Warren.
There will be no calling hours. Private graveside services will be held. Burial will be in Greenhaven Memorial Gardens in Austintown. Arrangement are being handled by Shorts Funeral Home, Ravenna Chapel.
