Istvan Geber II
Istvan Geber II, 76, of Newbury Township, died Sunday at Geauga Regional Hospital in Chardon after a brief illness. Born July 27, 1921 in Ivanovo, Yugoslavia, he was the son of Istvan and Julia (Mravaof) Geber. Formerly of Cleveland, he lived in the Newbury area for 25 years. Mr. Geber retired in 1986 from Cajon Company in Solon, where he had worked for 13 years as a machinist. In the 1970s and 1980s, he and his wife Anna (Becak) operated the first fresh produce market at the former Aurora Farms, S.R. 43, in Aurora. He was a member of St. Margaret's Catholic Church in Cleveland. In addition to his wife, survivors include sons, George (Slavica) of Chicago, Ill., and Istvan III (Agata) and Andy (Elizabeth), both of Mantua; brother, Matyi of Sweden; five grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. A sister died previously. Calling hours will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. Monday at Green's Funeral Home in Mantua, where funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday. Burial will be in Munn Cemetery in Newbury Township. Einer William Sundelin Einar William ('Whitey') Sundelin, 84, of Sharon, Pa., died Saturday at home. His daughter, Mrs. Leif (Donna Mae) Cooke, is a resident of Kent. Born Oct. 13, 1913 in Braddock, Pa., he was the son of Wilhelm and Esther Sundelin. Mr. Sundelin was a boiler operator in the maintenance department of the Sharon Regional Health System. He previously worked at the Westinghouse Electric Corporation in Sharon. He was an avid sports fan and softball player in the former Farrell-Sharon Church League and also with Jack's Grille in the Shenango Valley Independent League. He served as a military policeman in Africa and Italy for the U.S. Army during World War II. In addition to his daughter, survivors include brothers, Nelson of Sharon and Roy of Mercer, Pa.; four grandchildren; and 17 great-grandchildren. A brother, Ralph, died previously. There will be no calling hours. Services will be held at 4 p.m. Wednesday at the First United Methodist Church of Ravenna, 263 S. Prospect St., with the Rev. Thomas Poremba officiating. Memorials can be made to the American Cancer Society, 19 Jefferson Ave., Sharon, 16146.

Dorothy Shryock
Dorothy Jane Shryock, 73, of Ravenna, died Monday.
Born in Akron, she had been a resident of Cuyahoga Falls since 1956 before moving to Ravenna three years ago.
Mrs. Shryock retired from the Cuyahoga Falls Board of Education in 1982. She was a lunchroom monitor at Bolich Middle School.
Survivors include her daughter, Debie (Kevin) Baylor of Tallmadge; one grandchild; and sister Barbara (Chuck) Graff of Ravenna. Her husband, Richard B., and sister, Mary Rickey, died previously.
Calling hours will be held from 7 to 9 tonight at Clifford-Shoemaker Funeral Home, 1930 Front St., Cuyahoga Falls, where services will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday.
Memorials may be made to the Cuyahoga Falls Fire Department Rescue Squad, 1924 Front St., Cuyahoga Falls 44221.

Anna Kmetko
Anna Margaret (Nardo) Kmetko, 85, of Ravenna, died Saturday at Longmeadow Care Center in Ravenna.
Born Nov. 10, 1911 in Aliquippa, Pa., she was the daughter of Nicholas and Anna (Ladenberger) Krell. She moved to Rootstown from Pennsylvania in 1939 and recently was a resident of Longmeadow Care Center.
Mrs. Kmetko and her husband, Vito Nardo, were co-owners and operators of the New Milford Cafe from 1941 to 1967.
She was a member of St. Peter of the Fields Church in Rootstown..
Survivors include her daughters, Mrs. Robert (Delores) Anderson and Mrs. Gerald (Betty) Ward, both of Rootstown; six grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; sisters, Hilda Pawelkoski, Elizabeth Cunningham, Elsie Zalewski, and Marie Patrician, all of Pennsylvania. Her first husband, Vito Nardo; second husband, Michael Kmetko; grandson, Robert Anderson; and brother, Jacob Krell, died previously.
Calling hours will be held from 6 to 8 tonight at Wood-Kortright Funeral Home, Ravenna Chapel. Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at St. Peter of the Fields Church in Rootstown. Burial will be in St. Peter of the Fields Cemetery.
Memorials may be made to St. Peter of the Fields Church.

Ruth M. Antonelli
Ruth M. Antonelli, 88, of Harris Street, Kent, died Saturday at Robinson Memorial Hospital in Ravenna.
She was born Feb. 2, 1909 in Kent.
Mrs. Antonelli worked as an air hose assembler at Parker Hannifin in Kent.
Survivors include nieces and nephews and many great-nieces and nephews. Her husband, Patsy, died in 1967. Her brother, Joe Felsinger, and cousin, Dr. Sidney Stone, also died previously.
Calling hours will be held 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at Bissler & Sons Funeral Home in Kent, where services will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, with the Rev. Joseph Ruggieri officiating. Burial will be in Standing Rock Cemetery in Kent.

Reed infant
Jacob Reed, the infant son of Daniel D. and Anne M. (Spinelli) Reed of Diamond, was stillborn Thursday at Robinson Memorial Hospital in Ravenna.
In addition to his parents, survivors include his brother, Jesse T. of Diamond; sister, Ashley A. of Diamond; grandparents, Thomas and Virginia Shellhorn of Ravenna and Charles L. and Helen Reed of Diamond; and great-grandmother, Kathryn Guth of Ravenna.
Private graveside services will be held. Arrangements are being handled by James Funeral Home in Newton Falls.

Vanwormer services
Graveside services at Grandview Memorial Park in Ravenna for former Ravenna resident Richard D. Vanwormer have been canceled. These services had been scheduled fortoday. A service with military rites was held this morning in Bartlett Cemetery in Bartlett, Ohio.

Patricia Ranc
Former Aurora resident Patricia (Lee) Ranc, 73, died Thursday in Kingsport, Tenn.
Born June 21, 1924 in Cleveland, she was the daughter of Harry and Edith Lee.
Mrs. Ranc was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star and The Church in Aurora.
Survivors include sons, Donald Jr. of Kingsport, Tenn., David of Ft. Myers, Fla., John of Las Vegas, Nev., and Robert E. of Rocky River; daughter, Patty Wilson of Kingsport, Tenn.; 12 grandchildren; brothers, William H. of Aurora, Harry of Bedford and Robert E. of Mantua; and sister, Carol Garnons of Willowick. Her husband, Donald, died previously.
Calling hours will be held from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. today at the Tabone Funeral Home in Solon. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday at The Church in Aurora. Burial will be in Aurora Cemetery.

Ruth Thomas
Ruth E. Thomas, 90, of Hudson, died Friday.
Survivors include her son, Edward (Jane) of Kent; six grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; and sister, Gladys (Wick) Baldwin. Her husband, Francis E., daughter Donna Thomas, two brothers and four sisters all died previously.
Calling hours will be held from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at Johnson-Romito Funeral Home in Hudson. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the Western Reserve Christian Church, 50 Division St., Hudson. Burial will be in Crown Hill Cemetery in Hudson.
Memorials may be made to the Western Reserve Christian Church.

Donna Jean Powell
WINDHAM - Donna Jean Powell, 63, of Windham, died Wednesday at Robinson Memorial Hospital in Ravenna.
Born Feb. 18, 1934, in Warren, she was the daughter of Carl Z. and Mary A. (Smith) Powell. She was a Windham resident for 48 years.
She had worked for the Community Action Council and the Salvation Army, both in Windham.
Survivors include sons, Sheldon Lloyd of Garrettsville and Leslie and Alvin Lloyd, both of Columbus; daughter, Mary Vaughn of Windham, with whom Donna had made her home; 10 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; brothers, Carl of Florida, Frederick of Warren and Arthur Lee of Windham; sisters, Edna Hoehn of Streetsboro and Vivian Quiggle of Windham; and step-brother, Roy of Warren. Her parents amd brothers, Robert and James, died previously.
Calling hours will be held from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Saturday at the Mallory-DeHaven-Carlson Funeral Home in Garrettsville, where funeral services will be held at 9 p.m. with the Rev. William Werden officiating. Cremation will take place.
Memorials may be made to the Donna Jean Powell Fund at Huntington Bank.

Dorothy Maple
Dorothy Ann Maple, 65, of Ravenna died Wednesday at Robinson Memorial Hospital in Ravenna following a brief illness.
Born Feb. 8, 1932 in Alliance, she was the daughter of the Basil and Helen (Walters) Patterson.
A Ravenna resident since 1962, she had moved to the area from Alliance. Mrs. Maple was a homemaker, a caregiver, a member of the Ravenna Eagles Auxiliary and a former member of the Ravenna VFW Auxiliary No. 1055.
Survivors include sons John Calderone of Akron, and James Maple of Beloit; daughter Christine Escola of Ravenna; one grandchild; brothers, Paul Patterson of Alliance and Jerry Patterson of California; and a sister, Marian of Las Vegas.
There will be no calling hours. Graveside services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Alliance City Cemetery, with Rev. Carl Holm officiating.
Arrangements are being handled by Shorts Funeral Home, Ravenna Chapel.

David Hostetler
Funeral services were held Wednesday in Coshocton for former Ravenna businessman David Hostetler, who died Saturday at Coshocton County Memorial Hospital. He was 72.
Born May 27, 1925, in Garrett, Pa., he was the son of Hiram H. and Mary Ann (Gardner) Hostetler.
Mr. Hostetler was a supervisor in shipping and receiving and quality control for A.C. Williams Co. in Ravenna for 17 years. He was also a security guard for Checkpoint Security at the Genie Plant in Baltic until his retirement in July.
He served in the United States Army as a technician 5th grade with the Headquarters Battery 136th Anti Aircraft Artillery Battalion during World War II. He served overseas with duty in the Rhineland, Ardennes and central Europe, where he was awarded the EAME Service Medal with four Bronze Stars. He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and the American Legion.
Survivors include his wife, Carole (Whited), whom he married Jan. 12, 1974; sons, Judge David L. (Linda) of Coshocton and John Mark (Mary) of West Lafayette; daughters, Allinda of Cincinnati and Terri (Gary) Bradford of Newcomerstown; seven grandchildren; brothers, LeRoy (Pete) (Pauline), James (Jim) (Betty), both of Ravenna and George of West Warwick, R.I.; and sisters, Mary Alice (Robert) Miller, of Garrett, Pa., Jane Ansell of Rockwood, Pa. and Pansy Bubner (Steve) of Boswell, Pa. His brothers, Frank A. (Bud), Charles R., Eugene and William R.; and sisters, Myrtle Whorrell, Gertrude and Evelyn died previously.

Joseph Coates
Joseph A. Coates, 76, of Ravenna, died Thursday at the Hospice Care Center of Copley.
Arrangements will be announced by the Wood-Kortright Funeral Home Ravenna Chapel.

Ray Sunderland
Ray Louis Sunderland, 86, of Warren, died Monday in Longmeadow Care Center in Ravenna.
Born April 4, 1911, in Franklin County, Tenn., he was the son of Richard and Goldie Sunderland. He lived most of his life in Ashtabula and northern Trumbull counties. He moved to Warren in November 1992 from South Carolina, where he had lived for 26 years.
Mr. Sunderland was a steelworker for Republic Steel. He was a member of Old Erie Masonic Lodge No. 3 in Warren and a life member of Hampton Masonic Lodge No. 204 in Florence, S.C. He also was a member of Shrine, Grotto, Order of Eastern Star and Knights Templar.
Survivors include his sons, Jerome of Burghill, Ronald of Andover and Darrell of Newton Falls; daughters, Mrs. Sam (Madeline) Griffith of Southington and Raye Sunderland of New Castle, Pa.; 14 grandchildren, including Timothy Sunderland of Ravenna; 12 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild. His wife, Louise J. (Smith), and a son, Everett, died previously.
Visitation will be held at noon Friday at McFarland Funeral Home, 271 N. Park Ave., Warren, where services will follow at 1 p.m.Old Erie Lodge will hold Masonic services at 11:45 a.m. Friday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Kinsman Cemetery.

Phillip Shaw
MANTUA - Phillip H. Shaw, 52, died Tuesday at Meridia Hillcrest Hospital in Mayfield Heights of heart problems.
Born Sept. 3, 1945 in Bedford, he was the son of Ralph W. and Dorothy (Norman) Shaw.
Mr. Shaw was general foreman at Asplundh Tree Preservation in Strongsville, where he worked for 11 years.
He also served in the U.S. Army stateside.
Survivors include his wife, Linda (Collins), whom he married Oct. 1, 1965; son, Robert (Sharon) of Burton; and three grandchildren.
Visitation will be held from 10:30 a.m. until services at 11 a.m. Friday at Mallory-DeHaven-Carlson Funeral Home in Garrettsville. The Rev. Norm Smith will officiate.

Mary Robbins
Services will be held Friday for Mary Robbins, 65, of Ravenna, who died Sunday at Robinson Memorial Hospital in Ravenna following a long illness.
Born April 6, 1932 in Nankipooh, Ga., she was the daughter of Otis and Mahaley (Culpepper) Mullins. She had lived in Ravenna for more than 40 years.
Mrs. Robbins was self-employed as a home care giver.
She was a member of New Mount Calvary Baptist Church in Ravenna, where she was president of the church choir and president of the usher board. She also was a member of the Silver Leaf Club in Ravenna and the McElrath Improvement Committee.
Survivors include her stepsons, Freddie Monson of Arizona, Dennis Monson of Ravenna and Michael Monson of Michigan; stepdaughters, Olivia Taylor and Marilyn Nash, both of Illinois, and Sandra Davis of Akron; 16 grandchildren; many great-grandchildren; and sisters, Catherine Hurst of Ravenna and Mattie Randle of Columbus, Ga.
Visitation will be held from 11 a.m. until services at noon Friday at New Mount Calvary Baptist Church in Ravenna. The Rev. B.J. Grant will officiate. Burial will be in Grandview Memorial Park in Ravenna. Arrangements are being handled by Shorts Funeral Home, Ravenna Chapel.

Donna Powell
WINDHAM - Donna Jean Powell, 63, died Wednesday at Robinson Memorial Hospital in Ravenna.
Arrangements are being handled by Mallory-DeHaven-Carlson Funeral Home in Garrettsville.

Dorothy Maple
Dorothy Maple, 65, of Ravenna, died Wednesday at Robinson Memorial Hospital in Ravenna.
Services will be announced by Shorts Funeral Home, Ravenna Chapel.

Lulee Ferguson
Lulee Ferguson, 73, of Ravenna, died Monday at her home.
Born Oct. 13, 1924 in Mud Camp, Ky., she was the daughter of Levi and Lula Huff. She had resided in Ravenna since 1942.
Mrs. Ferguson had worked at the Cleveland Worsted Mills in Ravenna and the medical division of the Oak Rubber Co. in Ravenna.
Survivors include her husband, William E., to whom she had been married for 57 years; sister, Maxie Kilgore of Indiana; nephew, Michael Balazs of Garrettsville; and nieces, Mrs. Robert (Janice) Balazs and Mrs. Stephen (Diane) Colecchi, both of Ravenna. Five brothers died previously.
Calling hours will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Shorts Funeral Home, Ravenna Chapel, where services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday. The Rev. Carl Holm will officiate. Burial will be in Grandview Memorial Park in Ravenna.

Walter Nething
Walter F. Nething, 88, of Ravenna, died Saturday at Metro General Health Center in Cleveland from complications following an automobile accident at Peck Road and S.R. 303 on Saturday.
Born Nov. 9, 1908 in Bellaire, Ohio, he was the son of William and Sarah Nething. He had lived in the Charlestown and Ravenna area since 1922.
Mr. Nething was retired from Taylor-Winfield in Warren, where he had been employed as a machine operator. He also had been a rural route carrier for the Cleveland Plain Dealer.
He was a member of the First Church of God of Ravenna.
He enjoyed bowling and gardening.
Survivors include his wife, Edna Marie (Dennis); sons, Dwight of Ravenna; Larry (Debbie) of Ravenna; and Gary (Krisann) of Texas; sister, Lulu Reber of Ravenna; and five grandchildren. His brothers, George, Frederick, Clarence, Jacob and Oscar, died previously.
Calling hours will be held from 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at Shorts Funeral Home, Ravenna Chapel. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday at First Church of God in Ravenna, with the Rev. Carl Holm officiating.
Memorials may be made to the First Church of God of Ravenna.

Walter Murton
Walter Henry Murton, 66, of Newbury, Ohio died Monday.
Arrangements will be announced by Wood-Kortright Funeral Home, Ravenna Chapel.

Mildred Casto
Mildred Irene Casto, 84, died Sunday at her winter home in North Fort Myers, Fla.
A life resident of Portage County, she was the daughter of William and Tracy Hansen. She graduated in 1931 from Ravenna Township High School, where she excelled in basketball and swimming.
Mrs. Casto was a member of Ravenna Moose Lodge No. 1234 and was elected in 1987 to the College of Regents of the Moose Club. She enjoyed fishing and followed the Cleveland Browns, Cavaliers and Indians with great enthusiasm.
Survivors include her husband, Ernest (Pete); sons, Larry (Mary) Harper of Streetsboro, Gary (Linda) Huber of Ravenna and William (Sandra) Huber of Paris Township; daughter-in-law, Marilyn Casto of Ravenna; 10 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and sister, Irene Parolini of Dover, Ohio. Her brothers, Herbert and Emmitt Hansen,sister, Ella Pissocra and grandson, Ed Huber, died previously.
Cremation has taken place in North Fort Myers, Fla. A memorial service will be held in Ravenna will be announced at a later date. Local arrangements were made by Wood-Kortright Funeral Home, Ravenna Chapel.

Walter F. Nething
Walter F. Nething, 88, of Ravenna died Saturday.
Arrangements will be announced by Shorts Funeral Home, Ravenna Chapel.
