Russell Statler
GARRETTSVILLE - Russell J. Statler, 49, died Sunday at Robinson Memorial Hospital in Ravenna.
Born May 24, 1948 in Cleveland, he was the son of Russell and LaVerne (Vanek) Statler.
Mr. Statler worked as an assistant custodian for Bedford City Schools until he retired in 1994.
He was an avid hunter.
Survivors include his wife, Laura (Gossett), whom he married Sept. 27, 1975; daughter, Carlye, at home; mother, LaVerne Statler of Bedford; sisters, Renee Gossett of Ravenna and Yvonne Alonzo of Burton. His father, Russell, died previously.
There will be no calling hours. Services will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday at St. Ambrose Roman Catholic Church in Garrettsville, with the Rev. Richard Pentello officiating. Burial will be in Park Cemetery in Garrettsville. Arrangements were handled by Mallory-DeHaven-Carlson Funeral Home in Garrettsville.
Memorials may be made to the Multiple Sclerosis Society.

Jerry Johnson
Jerry Johnson, 50, of Ivan Drive, Kent, died Monday at Robinson Memorial Hospital in Ravenna.
He was born Feb. 10, 1947 in Ravenna.
He was a U.S. Army veteran of the Vietnam War
Mr. Johnson was employed at the Chrysler Corp. plant in Twinsburg for 28 years, working as a material handler.
He was a member of Rockton Masonic Lodge No. 316 in Kent, Kent Veterans of Foreign Wars and Kent American Legion Post No. 496. He was the 1983 inductee of the Greater Akron Sports Hall of Fame for his pitching ability.
Survivors include his wife, Debrianna (Melchior); son, Kelly of Arizona; stepsons, Jason and Curtis Rhoads of Kent; stepdaughter, Dea Rhoads of Kent; brother, Eddie Cash of Hudson; and sister, Pat Miller of Clarksville, Ga. His first wife, Jean (Culver), and mother, Jackie Johnson Snyder, died previously.
Visitation will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Bissler and Sons Funeral Home in Kent, where Masonic services will be held at 9:45 a.m and services will follow at 11 a.m., with the Rev. Julie-Ann Silberman officiating. Burial will be in Standing Rock Cemetery in Kent.

Vernon Nance
DEERFIELD - Vernon Nance, 59, died Monday at his home.
Born in Akron, he was the son of Walter and Amy Nance.
Mr. Nance was a retired mold maker for LTD.
He was an emergency medical technician for the Deerfield Volunteer Fire Department and was active in the Deerfield Hot Stove League for many years.
Survivors include his wife, Ruby; sons, Mike Curtis, Vernon II and Jay; daughter, Stacy (Matthew) Miller; and two grandchildren.
Calling hours will be held from 5 p.m. until services at 7 p.m. Thursday at Farley Funeral Home, 131 N. Canton Road in Akron. Pastor Jody Hill will officiate. Burial will be held at a later date.

Alexander Rach
ATWATER - Alexander P. Rach, 80, died Sunday.
A lifetime resident of Portage County, he was the former owner of Parkview Restaurant in Deerfield and Skylark Restaurant in Canfield.
Survivors include his wife, Pauline; three sisters; and three brothers.
Calling hours will be held from 9 to 10:30 a.m. Thursday atSharer-Stirling-Skivolocke Funeral Home in Alliance. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Alliance.
Memorials may be made to St. Joseph Catholic Church, 427 E. Broadway St., Alliance, 44601.

Kathryn M. Hresko
Kathryn M. Hresko, 75, of Franklin Township, died Saturday at Robinson Memorial Hospital in Ravenna after a brief illness.
Born Feb. 25, 1922 in Racine, Wisc., she was the daughter of Peter and Sophia (Fabish) Chechak.
Mrs. Hresko was a homemaker.
She was a member of Immaculate Conception Church in Ravenna.
Survivors include her brother, Carl (Dolores) Chechak of Ravenna; sisters, Claire (Kenneth) Palmer, Helen (George) Karaffa, Bernice (Jack) Ensinger, Marian Horner, and Patricia (Richard) Taylor, all of Ravenna; and sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Mary and Steve Forgus of Ravenna. Her husband, Joseph, and brothers, Arthur and Frederick Chechak, died previously.
Visitation will be held from 10 a.m. until services at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the Wood-Kortright Funeral Home, Ravenna Chapel. The Rev. Robert Sabatino will officiate. Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery in Ravenna.

Kathryn Hresko
Services were held today or Kathryn M. Hresko, 75, of Franklin Township, who died Saturday.
In addition to the survivors previously listed, her brother, Tom (Delores) Chechak, of Ravenna, also survives.
Arrangements were handled by Wood-Kortright Funeral Home, Ravenna Chapel.

Frank Hoffman
Frank E. Hoffman, Jr., 67, of Newton Falls, died early Thursday at Trumbull Memorial Hospital in Warren from lung cancer.
Born Nov. 25, 1929 in Warren, he was the son of Frank E. Sr. and Irene (McCleery) Hoffman. Formerly of Southington, he had been a Newton Falls resident since 1952.
Mr. Hoffman worked for the Ohio turnpike as a toll collector for 10 years, retiring in 1995. He was a member of St. Joseph's Church in Newton Falls.
Survivors include his wife, the former Madeline E. Fraser, whom he married Oct. 18, 1952; sons, Gary L. of Youngstown and Mark K. of Newton Falls; two grandchildren; mother, Irene of Mecca Township; brothers, Ronald of Howland and Austin of Southington; and sister, Mrs. Robert (Joan) Hickox of West Farmington.
Private calling hours will be held. Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at St. Joseph's Church in Newton Falls. Burial will be in St. Joseph's Cemetery. Arrangements are being made by the James Funeral Home, Newton Falls.
Memorials may be made to the Hospice of Trumbull County.

Louise Hunsicker
DEERFIELD - Louise R. Hunsicker, 77, died Wednesday at Robinson Memorial Hospital in Ravenna.
Born March 26, 1920, in Mineral City, she was the daughter of the late Joseph and Carmella (Coruetti) Cappillo. She had lived in Deerfield for 26 years.
Mrs. Hunsicker was a homemaker. She was a member of the Trinity Episcopal Church in Alliance.
Survivors include her husband, Francis L., of 52 years; a son, Andy (Cindy) of Ravenna; daughters, Sandra of Cuyahoga Falls and Mary (Daniel) FitzPatrick of Paris; two sisters; two brothers; three grandchildren; and a great-grandchild.
No calling hours will be held. Memorial services will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday at Trinity Episcopal Church, 1200 S. Union Ave., Alliance, with the Rev. Brad Purdom officiating. Burial will be in Grandview Memorial Park, Ravenna. Cremation has taken place. Arrangements are being handled by Shorts Funeral Home in Ravenna.
Memorials may be made to Trinity Episcopal Church or the American Heart Association.

Kathleen O'Neal
Kathleen (Duffy) O'Neal, 43, of Ravenna, died Wednesday at Robinson Memorial Hospital in Ravenna.
Born Feb. 9, 1954 in Ravenna, she was the daughter of John and Rose (Diamond) Duffy.
Mrs. O'Neal was a Rootstown resident, graduating from Rootstown High School in 1972. She lived in Texas from 1980-1995. She was a technician at the E-Check Station in Rootstown and was a member of St. Peter's of the Field Catholic Church in Rootstown.
Survivors include her husband Donald, to whom she had been married 19 years; daughters, Coby Ann Smith of Texas, April Rose, Kelly Dawn, Wendi Marie, Christina Ruth and Kim Duffy, all of Ravenna; stepson, Donald O'Neal of Ravenna; one grandchild; mother, Rose, of Rootstown; brothers, John of Rootstown and James of Randolph; sisters, Cecile Ferguson of Canton and Laura Clark of Rootstown. Her father John and brother Michael died previously.
Calling hours will be held from 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday at the Shorts Funeral Home, Ravenna Chapel. Funeral services will be held Monday at 11 a.m. at St. Peter's of the Field Catholic Church. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
Memorials can be made to the family.

Renate Scheffler
Renate M. (Filipowicz) Scheffler, 68, of New York state, formerly of Streetsboro, died Oct. 1 at her residence following a long illness.
Born July 23, 1929 in Berlin Germany, she was the daughter of Kurt and Emma (Brescht) Scheffler. She had lived in New York for 15 years after residing in Streetsboro for 20 years. While in Streetsboro, she did sewing for the Streetsboro bands and choirs. She was a former member of St. Joan of Arc Church of Streetsboro.
Survivors include her mother, Emma, of Cuyahoga Falls; sons Daniel Filipowicz of Akron and Jerry Filipowicz of Michigan; daughter Theresa Brutout of Cuyahoga Falls; five grandchildren and one great-granddaughter.
Calling hours will be from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday at the Shorts Funeral Home, Streetsboro Chapel. Burial services will be held Tuesday at the Crown Hill Cemetery in Twinsburg.
Memorials may be made to the Cuyahoga Falls Church of the Nazarene, P.O.Box 1081, Cuyahoga Falls, OH 44223.

Joseph Andorka
Joseph S. Andorka, 83, of Canton, who served with the Ohio Department of Transportation as a public information officer for District 4 for 36 years, died Tuesday at Aultman Hospital after complications from a stroke.
Mr. Andorka organized publicity departments in ODOT's 12 districts. He retired in 1983. While working with ODOT in Columbus, he started the department's first anti-litter and Arbor Day programs.
He also was an assistant football, basketball and track coach for Akron East High School and coached Anderson Rubber in the Akron YMCA Industrial League, which won district and state basketball titles. He was a boxing and fencing instructor and part-time publicist at the Akron Central YMCA. He was public relations director for the Ohio Optimist Clubs.
He was a member of St. Peter Catholic Church of Canton and All Saints Catholic Church of Canton.
Survivors include his wife, Elizabeth "Belle" (Biranoski); daughters, Mrs. Dean (Patricia) Allomong of Bryan, Ohio and Sandra of Canton; and brother John F. (Margaret M) of Canton.
Calling hours will be held from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Friday at Welch-Sekeres-Lewis Funeral Home, 2523 Tuscarawas St., West, in Canton, where a prayer service will be held at 1:45 p.m. Friday. Services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday at St. Peter Catholic Church in Canton. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery in Massillon.

Robert Keffer Sr.
GARRETTSVILLE - Robert Keffer Sr., 59, of Garrettsville, died Wednesday at Robinson Memorial Hospital in Ravenna after a brief illness.
Born June 8, 1938 in Dunbar, Pa., he was the son of David and Mildred (Moore) Keffer. He had been a lifetime Garrettsville resident.
Mr. Keffer worked for 26 years as a tool room manager at Furon Corp. of Mantua (formerly the Eaton Corporation and before that, Samuel Moore & Company of Mantua). He retired in 1996.
He was a U.S. Navy veteran.
Survivors include his wife, Patsy (Booher), whom he married Dec. 11, 1965; son, Robert Jr. of Southington; daughter, Melodie Roth of Garrettsville; and six grandchildren. His parents died previously.
Calling hours will be held from 7 to 9 p.m. Friday at Mallory-DeHaven-Carlson Funeral Home in Garrettsville, where services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, with the Rev. Mitchell Ladich officiating. Burial will be in Park Cemetery in Garrettsville.

Marian Medlock
RANDOLPH - Marian Wacher Medlock, 86, died Wednesday at Akron City Hospital after a brier illness.
Born Sept. 29, 1911 in Orient, Pa., she was the daughter of Justin and Mildred Wacher. Formerly of Akron, she had lived in Randolph for 43 years.
Mrs. Medlock was a homemaker.
She was a member of the Ladies 500 Club in Akron for more than 50 years and a member of the Jolly Nine Club in the Randolph area for more than 20 years. She formerly attended Randolph United Methodist Church.
Survivors include her son, David of Hudson; daughter, Shirlee Coppo; three grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and sister, Jean Eisenbrandt of Mesa, Ariz. Her husband, James V., brothers John, Luke and Peter, and sisters, Ann, Olive, Hazel and Catherine, died previously.
Visitation will be held from 10 a.m. until services at 11 a.m. Saturday at the Wood-Kortright Funeral Home, Ravenna Chapel. Burial will be in Hillside Cemetery in Randolph.

Jerry Komon
MANTUA - Funeral services were held today at Green's Funeral Home in Mantua for Jerry Y. Komon, 69, who died Monday at his home following a period of ill health.
Born June 10, 1928 in Cleveland, he was the son of Joseph and Frances (Sherak) Komon. He had been a Mantua-Shalersville area resident for the past 41 years.
Mr. Komon worked as an operating engineer for Stamm Contracting Co. in Mantua for 33 years. He also had owned and operated his own business, Komon Landscaping, for 15 years.
Survivors include his wife, Barbara (Richardson); son, Victor of Millersburg; daughters, Stephanie of Mantua and Diane of Stow; one grandchild; and sisters, Mary Kelly of Streetsboro, Jean Komon of Twinsburg and Jane King of Sagamore Hills.

Iona Horvath
Former Windham resident Iona C. Horvath, 74, of Titusville, Fla., died Tuesday at Parrish Medical Center in Florida.
She moved to Brevard County, Fla. from Windham in 1973.
She was a self-employed cosmetologist at Charm Beauty Shop.
Survivors include her sons, Thomas L. of Washington, Ohio; Joseph C. of Port St. John, Fla.; Walter C. of Dayton, Ohio; Peter J. of Cocoa, Fla.; daughter, Holly H. Turner of Port St. John; mother, Fanny Chaffee of Winter Park, Fla.; brother, Leroy Chaffee of Leesburgh, Fla.; and sister, Lucina Dauns of Orlando, Fla.
Graveside services will be held Friday at Florida Memorial Gardens in Rockledge, Fla.
Memorials may be made to Marinor Health of Titusville, 2225 Knox McRae Road, Titusville, Fla. 32780.

Verda Hutchison
Verda Inez Hutchison, 94, of Fayetteville, Ark., the sister of Pauline Evans of Ravenna and Ruth Harris of Streetsboro, died Tuesday at home.
Born July 25, 1903 in Atwater, she was the daughter of Clinton A. and Ethel (Lincoln) Douthitt.
Mrs. Hutchison was a homemaker.
She was a member of the Seventh Day Adventist Church.
In addition to her sisters, survivors include her husband, Charles Okey; son, Wayne Allyn of Fayetteville; daughter, Carla Jean Kuesters of Rock Island, Ill.; five grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
Cremation has taken place. Moore's Chapel in Fayetteville handled arrangements. A memorial service will be announced later.

Kathleen M. O'Neal, 43, of Ravenna, died Wednesday at Robinson Memorial Hospital in Ravenna.
Arrangements will be made by Shorts Funeral Home, Ravenna Chapel.

Woodward services
Services for former Ravenna resident William "Woody" Woodward were held Saturday at Hiers Funeral Home in Ocala, Fla.
Mr. Woodward, 40, died Sept. 24 after being injured in an automobile accident in Florida.
