Virgie M. McCarley
Virgie M. McCarley, 78, died Monday, April 12, in Lakeside, Ariz.
She was born, reared and attended school in West Alexandria. She married Stanley Renner in 1938 and they lived in Ohio until 1961, when they moved to the Lakeside area. She worked at the McNary Post Office, Wilber's Market, The Homestead Cafe, the election board and for the Arizona MVD.
Survivors include two sons, Paul Renner of Show Low, Ariz., and David Renner of Lakeside, Ariz.; one brother, Jim Suggs of Phoenix, Ariz.; 10 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husbands, Stanley Renner, in 1975, and O.C. McCarley, in 1981; a son, Kenneth Renner; and a sister, Gladys Farris.
Funeral services were Thursday, April 15, at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, Lakeside, Ariz., followed by burial in Lakeside Cemetery. Owens Mortuary, Show Low, Ariz., was in charge of arrangements.
Memorial contributions may be made to RTA Hospice.

Laura M. Glunt
Laura Mildred Glunt, 92, of 3823 S. "A" St., Richmond, Ind., died Tuesday, May 4, at Pinehurst Village Nursing Home in Centerville, Ind.
Born Aug. 9, 1906, in Preble County, she was the daughter of William L. and Ethel May (Duffield) Fleisch. She had lived in the Preble County area most of her life, and had resided in Richmond for 11 years. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in New Paris.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Howard Glunt, on March 22; and a daughter, Marilyn Walcott.
Survivors include a son, James Glunt of Kansas City, Kan.; a sister, Alice Jean Ashenfelter of Jasper, Ala.; six grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were Monday, May 10, at Jones-Klute-Lamb Funeral Home, Richmond, Ind., with the Rev. Don Brammer officiating. Burial was in Springlawn Cemetery, New Paris.

Barbara J. Taylor
Barbara Jean (Crowell) Taylor, 59, died unexpectedly Saturday, May 1, at Winter Haven Hospital in Winter Haven, Fla., after suffering multiple strokes and a fatal heart attack on April 30.
She was born June 18, 1939, on Ketterman Road in Preble County. She attended Lanier School until her sophomore year, and graduated from Belle Center High School in 1957. She attended the Eaton Church of the Brethren.
Survivors include a daughter, V. Jacquie Taylor of Winter Haven, Fla.; her mother, Kathryn Crowell of West Alexandria; a brother, Paul Crowell of Spring Lake, Mich.; a sister, Nancy Muncy of Eaton; aunts, uncles, cousins; three nieces and one nephew.
She was preceded ind eath by a daughter, Jeannie Marie, in 1965; and her father, Forrest E. Crowell, in 1986.
Memorial services will be held at the convenience of the family.

Mariah N. Lawson
Mariah Nicole Lawson, infant daughter of Michael E. Lawson and Leanna N. Robinson, died Thursday, May 6. She was born Tuesday, May 4.
Survivors include her parents, both of Dayton; grandparents, David Rose, Monetta Rose and Karen Robinson, all of Dayton; aunts and uncles, Cindy Robinson and husband Danny, Herbert "Bub" Robinson and wife Tina, Candy Settle, Melanie Barnett and husband Fred, Thomas Lawson and wife Jamie, and William Warren, all of Dayton; numerous cousins and other relatives.
She was preceded in death by her grandfather, Randy G. Lawson, in 1995.
Funeral services were Monday, May 10, at Barnes Funeral Home-Preble Memory Gardens Chapel, West Alexandria, with Pastor Peter Bellini officiating. Burial was in Preble Memory Gardens.

Dr. Bruce H. Ewald
Dr. Bruce H. Ewald, 65, of Sun Lakes, Ariz., died Thursday, May 6, at his home. He had moved to Arizona in 1998 from Long Valley, N.J.
Born Sept. 12, 1933, in New York, N.Y., he was the son of Harold E. and Dora (Hansen) Ewald. He was a 1957 Iowa State DVM graduate and received his master's degree in 1964. Dr. Ewald was a veterinarian in pharmaceutical research, retiring in 1997 from Novartis of New Jersey.
He was a past elder of the Presbyterian Church of New York, a member of Phi Gamma Delta, American Veterinarian Medical Association, American College of Laboratory Animal Medicine, Association of Assessment and Accreditation of Laboratory Animal Care, Incurably Ill for Animal Research, New Jersey American Association for Laboratory Animal Science, National Association of Biomedical Research, New Jersey Association for Biomedical Research, Scientist Center for Animal Welfare, and The Johns Hopkins University Center for Alternatives to Animal Testing.
Survivors include his wife of 42 years, Carolyn (Alford) Ewald; two sons and daughter-in-law, David A. Ewald of Bedminster, N.J., Mark C. and Kerri Ewald of Naperville, Ill.; and his mother, Dora Ewald of Bronxville, N.Y.
Graveside services were Tuesday, May 11, at Mound Hill Union Cemetery, Eaton. Barnes Funeral Home-Eaton Chapel was in charge of arrangements.
Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of the Valley, 1510 E. Flower, Phoenix, Ariz., 85014; or to Mayo Clinic of Scottsdale, 13400 E. Shea Blvd., Scottsdale, Ariz. 85259.

Estle T. Thacker Sr.
Estle T. Thacker Sr., 78, of Ohio 726, Eldorado, died Saturday morning, May 8, at Reid Hospital in Richmond, Ind., following a short illness.
Born Oct. 21, 1920, in Cynthiana, Ky., he was the son of John S. and Lena Victoria (Spence) Thacker. He married Addie Guthrie on April 15, 1938, and they have been residents of Preble County for 47 years. He was a World War II veteran, having served in Germany. Mr. Thacker retired from NCR in 1969.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and two brothers, Ed and Orville.
Survivors include his wife, Addie; two daughters, Norma Pope of Eldorado and Dianna Lewis of Eaton; a son, Estle T. Thacker Jr. of Franklin; seven grandchildren, Tony Pope, Tammy Delloposta, Estle T. Thacker III, Ronda O'Hair, Dianna Elam, Jeffery Thacker and Melissa McKee; and 18 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were Tuesday, May 11, at Bussard-Barnes-Vaniman Funeral Home, Eldorado, with the Rev. Mike Gray officiating. Burial was in Monroe Cemetery near Eldorado.

Berta Geigner
Berta "Betty" Geigner, 94, died Friday, May 7, at Miami Valley Hospital in Dayton.
A native of Germany, she was a former resident of Camden, and had resided in Dayton for the past 17 years with the Anna Weizman-Shellman family, and since January at Heartland of Beavercreek.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Andrew Geigner.
Survivors include several nieces and nephews in New England and Germany; and faithful friends, Vada Eaglin, Wade Smith and the Eugen Stiefelmayer family in the Dayton area.
Graveside services were Tuesday, May 11, at Fairmount Cemetery, Camden. R.C. Nein & Sons-Thompson Funeral Home, Camden, was in charge of arrangements.
Memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart of Cancer Association.

James H. Shafer
James H. Shafer, 78, formerly of West Alexandria, died Monday, May 10, in Eaton.
Born April 18, 1921, in Preble County, he was the son of Roscoe and Hazel (Eby) Shafer. He was a 1939 graduate of West Alexandria High School. Mr. Shafer was an owner, trainer and driver of Standard Bred horses.
Survivors include a son, Dr. Steven Shafer and wife Jeanne of Eaton; two daughters, Rita Roberts and husband David of West Alexandria, Carol McWhinney and husband Chris of Dayton; eight grandchildren; nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Robert Shafer; and a sister, Mary Ellen Smith.
Private funeral services will be held. Lindloff-Zimmerman Funeral Home, West Alexandria, is in charge of arrangements.
Memorial contributions may be made to St. Paul United Methodist Church, Eaton.

Eva M. Studebaker
Eva M. Studebaker, 96, formerly of Verona, died Saturday, March 27, near Lewisburg after an extended illness.
Born Jan. 10, 1903, in Twin Township (Preble County), she was the daughter of the late Purd and Edith (Emerick) Burkhead. She had worked at the Eaton Home Laundry, and was a member of the Moose Lodge at Greenville.
Survivors include sons, Paul Eugene Studebaker of Hollansburg, Lawrence S. Studebaker of Eaton, Alvin D. Studebaker of California, Allen Leroy Studebaker of Lewisburg, Ozro D. Studebaker Jr. of Verona and Frank D. Studebaker of Arcanum; daughters, Garnet Garner and Bertie Garner, both of Lewisburg, and Velma Gibson of Florida; a sister-in-law, Dorothy Ermlich of Eaton; 44 grandchildren; 94 great-grandchildren; 39 great-great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her first husband, Ethan Hudson; second husband, Ozro D. Studebaker Sr., in 1958; sons, Lewis Rivers Hudson, Roland Studebaker and Leonard Leon Studebaker; daughters, Pearl Irene Studebaker and Blanche Elaine Studebaker; a sister, Elsie Bean; brothers, Verlando, Ralph and Russell Burkhead; and eight grandchildren.
Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday, March 31, at Barnes Funeral Home-Lewisburg Chapel, 411 N. Commerce St., with the Rev. Rodney W. Shelley officiating. Burial will be in Roselawn Cemetery, Lewisburg.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Lewisburg Emergency Unit.

Betty Kautz
Betty Kautz, 65, of 72 W. Dayton St., West Alexandria, died Tuesday, March 23, in Dayton after a short illness.
She was born April 9, 1933, in Pontiac, Mich. She worked in housekeeping at Grandview Hospital, and had worked the last 10 years as church secretary at Grace Baptist Church in Trotwood. She was a member of the deaf class for 35 years.
Survivors include her husband, Eddie; three daughters, Mary Blizzard and Sheila Hutchinson, both of Columbus, and Elizabeth Nickell of Kentucky; a brother, Jim Mills of Cumberland, Ohio; and several grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a daughter, Dorothy, in 1980.
Funeral services were Friday, March 26, at Grace Baptist Church, Trotwood, with Pastor Douglas Criswell officiating. Burial was in Mound Hill Union Cemetery, Eaton. Lindloff-Zimmerman Funeral Home, West Alexandria, was in charge of arrangements.
Memorial contributions may be made to Deaf Ministries, c/o Grace Baptist Church, 142 Olive Road, Trotwood, Ohio.

Gloria J. Bricker
Gloria Jean Bricker, 74, of Eaton, died Thursday, March 25, at Good Samaritan Hospital in Dayton.
Born Aug. 25, 1924, in Wayne County, Ind., she was the daughter of the late Frank G. and Ruby G. (Ross) Wynkoop. She retired in 1984 from General Motors Corp., Dayton. She was a member of First Friends Church, Richmond, Ind.; Eastern Star Gleaners Chapter #182; and Eaton Senior Citizens.
She was preceded in death by her husband, William J. Bricker, on July 15, 1975.
Survivors include daughters, Judith E. Samborsky of Richmond, Ind., Sandra J. Bogner of Vandalia, Majel A. Bricker of Eaton; six grandchildren; two step-grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; four step-great-grandchildren; sisters, Doris L. Kaufman of Clearwater, Fla., Willodean Farno of New Lebanon and Shirley Parker of Richmond, Ind.; a brother, F. Keith Wynkoop of Richmond, Ind.; nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were Monday, March 29, at Girton-Schmidt-Boucher Funeral Home, Eaton, with Alan Kolp officiating. Burial was in Glen Haven Memorial Gardens, Richmond, Ind.
