Esther Miller Cultice
Esther Miller Cultice, 86, of Eaton, died Friday, Aug. 8, 1997, at her home.
Born Feb. 5, 1911, in Campbellstown (Preble County), she was the daughter of John C. and Alice (Wysong) Markey. She was a 1929 graduate of Eaton High School and graduated from Miami University with a master's in education. She was a retired teacher from the Eaton City Schools.
Mrs. Cultice was a member of the Preble County Retired Teachers Association, a founding member of the Preble County Widowed Persons Service and a member of the Eaton Church of the Brethren.
She was preceded in death by her first husband, George E. Miller, in 1982; her second husband, Kendall Cultice, in 1993; brothers, Walter Markey in 1896, Frank Markey in 1901 and Clarence W. Markey in 1983; and a sister, Maude Markey in 1895.
Survivors include sons and daughters-in-law, the Rev. Dean M. and Karen Miller of Hagerstown, Md., Marlin J. Miller and Candyce Belanger of Huntington Beach, Calif., Roger L. and Phyllis Miller of Palos Verdes Estates, Calif.; a niece, Mildred (Glen) Duke of Eaton; nine grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
Memorial services were Monday, Aug. 11, at the Eaton Church of the Brethren, with the Rev. Craig H. Smith and the Rev. Greg Hyre officiating. Burial was in Mound Hill Union Cemetery, Eaton. Barnes Funeral Home-Eaton Chapel was in charge of arrangements.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Esther Miller Cultice Memorial Fund, c/o Eaton City Schools, Attn.: Treasurer, 307 N. Cherry St., Eaton, Ohio 45320.

Nellie P. Niswonger
Nellie P. Niswonger, 96, of Brookville, died Friday, Aug. 8, 1997, at her home.
Born July 12, 1901, in Darke County, she was the daughter of George and Cora (Fitzgerald) Broughman. She was a member of the Verona United Methodist Church and the Eastern Star in Lewisburg.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Ohmer E. Niswonger, in 1972; five brothers and four sisters.
Survivors include two sons and daughters-in-law, George E. and Wilma Niswonger of Brookville, John A. and Ina Niswonger of Lewisburg; one sister, Mary Rebka of Greenville; six grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were Tuesday, Aug. 12, at Barnes Funeral Home-Lewisburg Chapel, with the Rev. William "Bill" Schilling officiating. Burial was in Arlington Cemetery, Brookville.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Verona United Methodist Church.

Jay W. Kingsley
Jay Worley "J.W." Kingsley, 61, died Sunday, Aug. 17, 1997, at his home near Miller, Mo.
A native and lifelong resident of Lawrence County, Mo., he was born Dec. 4, 1935, the son of Jay H. and Mary (Miller) Kingsley. He was a retired grain farmer. Mr. Kingsley was a Korean War veteran and a member of Highland Chapel Free Methodist Church near Miller, Mo.
Survivors include his wife of 32 years, Charlene (Eikenberry) Kingsley; one daughter, Karen Kingsley of Cincinnati; sons and daughters-in-law, Kiman and Darlene Kingsley, Kevin Kingsley, all of Miller, Mo., Kaleb and Cindy Kingsley, Kaland and Theresa Kingsley, all of Mt. Vernon, Mo.; a brother, Wendell Kingsley of Miller, Mo.; a sister, Mary Lou Holmes of Overland, Park, Kan.; nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were Thursday, Aug. 20, at Highland Chapel Church, Miller, Mo., followed by burial in Goss Cemetery.

Dennie A. Miller
Dennie A. Miller, 65, of Vandalia, formerly of West Alexandria, died Thursday, Aug. 28, 1997, at Miami Valley Hospital in Dayton.
He was born May 11, 1932. He retired in June from Roberds Furniture in Piqua after 14 years.
Survivors include his wife of 28 years, Betty; two sons and daughters-in-law, Mitch and Tammy Miller of St. Cloud, Fla., Ty and Jodie Miller of Vandalia; one daughter and son-in-law, Vickie and Marvin Mullins of West Alexandria; five grandchildren; his mother, Blanche (Snider) Miller of West Alexandria; three brothers and sisters-in-law, Owen "Buz" Jr. and Marietta Miller of West Alexandria, Bill and Ann Miller of New Lebanon, Jack and Betty Miller of Lady Lake, Fla.; three sisters, Velma Brown of West Alexandria, Vera Habekost of Bradenton, Fla., and Earla Mae Giehl of Dayton; nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his father, Owen Miller Sr., in 1991; and three brothers, Darrel, Bob and Joy Miller; and a sister, Dottie.
Funeral services were Monday, Sept. 1, at Lindloff-Zimmerman Funeral Home, West Alexandria, with the Rev. Daniel Snider officiating. Burial was in Sugar Grove Cemetery near West Alexandria.
Memorial contributions may be made to American Lung Association, 7560 McEwen Road, Dayton.

Ryan E. Straszheim
Ryan Eugene Straszheim, 16, of Brookville, formerly of New Lebanon, died Sunday, Aug. 31, 1997, as the result of a traffic accident.
He was a junior at the Miami Valley Career Technology Center where he was enrolled in the electrical engineering program. At Dixie High School he had been active in wrestling, track, football, choir and the band.
Survivors include his mother, Sheila A. Straszheim; father, Ronald E. Straszheim; stepfather, Bill Marr; maternal grandmother, Nancy Johnson; paternal grandmother, Marjorie Smith; paternal grandfather and step-grandmother, Edward and Marylou Straszheim; paternal great-grandmother, Martha Straszheim; step-grandmother, Kathryn Marr; sister, Alisha Straszheim.
Also surviving are stepbrothers, Bill and Chris Marr; aunts and uncles, Sherry and Dale Iles, Terri Nutt, Bonnie and Craig Holsapple, Vollie "Gale" and Jeannie Johnson, Louie and Linda Johnson, Colin and Janet Johnson, Harry C. Johnson, Bobby Ray and Phyllis Johnson, Victor and Jean Johnson, Eric and Teresa Johnson, Doug Johnson, Danny and Francine Straszheim, Michael Straszheim, Brad and Tammy Straszheim; and cousins.
Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 4, at Kindred Funeral Home, 400 Union Blvd., Englewood, with the Rev. Douglas G. Criswell officiating. The family will receive from 5-9 p.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 3. Burial will be in Royal Oak Memorial Gardens, Brookville.

Linda L. Woods
Linda L. Woods, 43, of Dafler Road, West Alexandria, died Sunday, Aug. 31, 1997, at Grandview Hospital in Dayton.
Born July 13, 1954, she was the daughter of Leon and Margaret (Hopkins) Brock.
Survivors include her husband of 23 years, Rick Woods; three sons and a daughter, Andrew Woods, Richie Woods, Josh Woods and Cassie Woods, all at home; her father and stepmother, Leon and Mary Ellen Brock of West Alexandria; a brother, Darrell Brock of West Alexandria; a sister, Sandy Brown of Dayton; and a granddaughter, Alexis Moser of Brookfield, Wis.
She was preceded in death by her mother in 1978.
Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 4, at Lindloff-Zimmerman Funeral Home, West Alexandria, with the Rev. Lowell Spencer officiating. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery, West Alexandria. Friends may call at the funeral home from 6-8 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 3.

Roy J. Buehner
Roy J. Buehner, 81, of Wayne Trace Road, Camden, died Tuesday, Sept. 2, 1997, at his home.
Born Sept. 6, 1915, in Twin Township, he was the son of Benjamin and Nora (Dafler) Buehner. He was a farmer most of his life. Mr. Buehner was a member of the Eden Lodge#30, IOOF Rachel Rebekah Lodge #144, Eaton Grange #2250 and member of the First Brethren Church in Gratis.
Survivors include his wife, Ruth; three sons, Carroll Buehner of Bradenton, Fla., Jackie Buehner of Middletown and Roy Buehner Jr. of Somerville; two daughters, Nancy Reynolds of Castine and Dixie Owen of Eaton; three brothers, Everett Buehner of Kettering, Bill Buehner of Franklin and Jim Buehner of Farmersville; and two sisters, Mary Ditmer Wood of Eaton and Beryl Surber of Brookville; 17 grandchildren and 24 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by one grandchild.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 6, at the First Brethren Church in Gratis, with the Rev. Robert French officiating. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery, Gratis. Friends may call at the church for visitation from 5-8 p.m. Friday, Sept. 5, and one hour prior to services on Saturday. Lindloff-Zimmerman Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Richmond.

Dustin Arahood
Dustin James Allen Arahood, 64 days, infant son of Daniel L. Arahood and Jennifer A. Berry of 197 Norseman Drive, Eaton, died Monday, Aug. 18, 1997, at Children's Hospital in Cincinnati.
He was born June 16 at Oxford.
Surviving, in addition to his parents, are a brother, Joshua R. Berry; two sisters, Whitney N. Berry and Britney L. Fritts; paternal grandparents, Paul L. Sr. and Janice A. Arahood of Eaton; maternal grandparents, James H. and Phyllis E. Koontz of Alexandria, Ind.; paternal great-grandmother, Mildred Davis of Duff, Tenn., and Emma Arahood of Dayton; paternal great-great-grandmother, Lydia Jones of Williamsburg, Ky.; aunts, uncles and cousins.
Funeral services were Friday, Aug. 22, at Girton-Schmidt-Boucher Funeral Home, Eaton, with the Rev. Craig Crace officiating. Burial was in Fairview Cemetery, West Alexandria.

Joan E. Petry
Joan E. Petry, 59, of Eaton, died unexpectedly Monday, Aug. 18, 1997, in Eaton.
Born June 28, 1938, in Preble County, she was the daughter of Paul W. and Mildred E. (Henderson) Frech. She was employed at Parker Hannifin in Eaton, and was a member of the Eaton First Church of God.
Survivors include her husband, Paul W. Petry, whom she married May 18, 1957; daughters and sons-in-law, Vivian Joan and Charles Floyd, Susan Diane and Earl House, all of Eaton; son and daughter-in-law, Eddie Paul Leon and Kellie Petry of Alabama; grandchildren, Brandt and Jarod Earles, Hali and Keagan Floyd, Serena, Earl M. and Brian P. House.
Also surviving are her mother, Mildred E. Frech of New Madison; sisters and brothers-in-law, Ruth and Douglas Filbrun, Mary and DeWayne Howell, all of New Madison; brothers and sisters-in-law, David and Wanda Frech of New Paris, Joseph and Saundra Frech, Daniel and Karen Frech, Mark and Jamie Frech, all of New Madison.
She was preceded in death by her father; and a brother, James Frech.
Funeral services were Wednesday, Aug. 20, at the Eaton First Church of God, with Pastor Jerry Reynolds officiating. Burial was in Wares Chapel Cemetery near West Manchester. Barnes Funeral Home-Preble Memory Gardens Chapel, West Alexandria, was in charge of arrangements.

Ruby G. Crouse
Ruby Genevieve Crouse, 92, of Vicki Drive, Camden, died Tuesday, Aug. 19, 1997, at Reid Hospital in Richmond, Ind., after a six-month illness.
Born April 23, 1905, in Camden, she was the daughter of the late James F. and Sylvia L. (Piper) Patterson, and had lived in Camden most of her life.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Carroll P. Crouse, on May 17, 1975; a son, James Eugene Snowden; a daughter, Bonnie Brower; two brothers, Donald Patterson and Carl Patterson; and a sister, Eunice Myers.
Survivors include 13 grandchildren; several great-grandchildren and great-great grandchildren.
Funeral services were Friday, Aug. 22, at Girton-Schmidt-Boucher Funeral Home, Eaton, with the Rev. Kenneth Harbaum officiating. Burial was in Fairview Cemetery, West Alexandria.

William L. Spencer
William L. Spencer, 71, of 105 Sherry Lane, Lewisburg, died unexpectedly of heart failure Tuesday, Aug. 19, 1997, in Fairplay, Colo.
Born Aug. 8, 1926, he was the son of Frank and Elva (Fox) Spencer. He was a World War II U.S. Army veteran and retired in 1981 as a commercial artist from General Motors Delco in Dayton. The last 12 years of his life were devoted to the art of building mountain dulcimers and performing traditional folk music as well as songs of his own.
Survivors include his wife of 54 years, Eileen (Bishop) Spencer; a son, Thomas E. Spencer of Beavercreek; daughters, Willa L. McMinn of Parker, Colo., and Deborah L. Rendon of Pueblo, Colo.; a sister, Ann Weatherford of San Antonio, Texas; three grandchildren, Heather and Sean McMinn and Tonya R. Blake; and a great-grandson, Nathan Blake.
He was preceded in death by brothers, Frank, James, Robert, Burl and John Spencer.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 30, at Barnes Funeral Home-Lewisburg Chapel, 411 N. Commerce St., with the Rev. Allen T. Ross officiating. Burial will be in Roselawn Cemetery, Lewisburg. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the services on Saturday at the funeral home.
Memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Fund -- Preble County Unit or to the American Diabetes Association.
