Janice A. Locke
Janice A. Locke, 57, of Vernon Estates, Viroqua, Wis., died Friday evening, May 1, 1998, of cancer at the Vernon Manor Nursing Home in Viroqua, where she became a resident earlier in the day.
Born June 12, 1940, in Preble County, she was the daughter of Robert and Martha (Marquis) Brokamp. Her early years were spent in Ohio where she married Marshall Michael Jr., and they were later divorced. She married Max Locke and they moved to Viroqua in 1973, and were divorced in 1976.
She worked for several years in Viroqua area restaurants, both as a waitress and cook. She was a member of VFW Auxiliary Post #8066 of Eaton; and was a member of Jacobson-Olson American Legion Post #138, where she had served as president and currently was first vice president.
Survivors include three daughters, Theresa (Larry) Young, Karen "Bobbie" Michael and Linda Locke (Kelly Glass), all of Viroqua, Wis.; eight grandchildren; her father, Robert Brokamp of Eaton; a maternal aunt, Betty (Ralph) Jones of Old Towne, Fla.; four stepsisters, Gail (Jeff) Pieratt of Eaton, Barbara Buckley of Bradenton, Fla., Carol (Bob) Williams of Lake Placid, Fla., and Peggy (Ron) Klinger of West Manchester; and other relatives.
She was preceded in death by her mother, Martha Brokamp; and stepmother, Vivian Brokamp.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, May 6, at Thorson Funeral Home, Viroqua, Wis., with Pastor Roger Hjelle officiating. Burial will be in Viroqua Cemetery.

Goldie M. Kline
Goldie Marie Kline, 85, of 1320 Eaton-Gettysburg Road, Eaton, formerly of Middletown, died Saturday morning, May 2, 1998, at Grandview Hospital in Dayton.
Born Dec. 3, 1912, in Rome, Ohio, she was the daughter of Vincent J. and Minerva (Horner) Holsinger. She retired from Rink's in Middletown; and had been a member of the Eagles Auxiliary in Middletown.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Harold J. Kline, in 1957; and a son, Gary Lee Kline, in 1936.
She is survived by a nephew, Roscoe Holsinger Jr. of Eaton.
Graveside services were Tuesday, May 5, at Preble Memory Gardens, West Alexandria, with the Rev. Lowell T. Spencer officiating. Barnes Funeral Home-Eaton Chapel was in charge of arrangements.

Phyllis A. Taylor
Phyllis A. Taylor, 71, of 7325 U.S. 127 North, Lewisburg, died Saturday, May 2, 1998, at Good Samaritan Hospital in Dayton.
Born Nov. 7, 1926, in New Paris, she was the daughter of the late Ralph and Golda (Cougill) Murphy. She was a retired bookkeeper; and a member of Sugar Valley United Methodist Church.
Her husband, William Taylor Jr., died Feb. 28, 1986.
Survivors include a daughter and son-in-law, Anne L. and Ronald Hall of Lewisburg; a son, David L. Taylor Sr. of Haines City, Fla.; and two grandsons, David L. Taylor Jr. and John L. Taylor.
Memorial services were Monday, May 4, at Girton-Schmidt-Boucher Funeral Home, Eaton, with the Rev. Kenn Barton officiating.
Memorial contributions may be made to the American Diabetes Association, 8899 Brookside Ave., Suite 102, West Chester, Ohio 45069.

John R. Quinn
John Robert Quinn, 88, of Riverview Drive, Dayton, died Sunday, May 3, 1998, at his home.
Born June 29, 1909, in Eaton, he was the son of John Lacey and Anna (Hubert) Quinn. He had been Assistant Postmaster General in Washington, D.C., retiring in 1964. Mr. Quinn was an author of poetry and had many poems published.
Survivors include several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by four brothers, James Quinn, Walter Quinn, Maxwell Quinn and William Quinn.
There will be no public service. Lindloff-Zimmerman Funeral Home, West Alexandria, is in charge of arrangements.
Memorial contributions may be made to Aullwood Audubon Center and Farm, Dayton.

Arthur W. Wendel
Arthur William Wendel, 79, of Fort Collins, Colo., died Monday, Jan. 5, 1998, at his home.
Born July 17, 1918, near Bath, Ind., he was the son of Frederick A. and Matilda (Beckman) Wendel. He attended school in Camden (Preble County). He was a U.S. Army infantry captain, having served during World War II in Germany and in the Korean War. He was awarded the Bronze Star, the Silver Star and Purple Heart.
Mr. Wendel was a sales representative for Van Camp Hardware and Iron in South Bend, Ind., for 28 years. He retired in 1974 and moved to Fort Collins, Colo. He was a ditch rider for the Pleasant Valley and Lake Canal. He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1781 and Fort Collins Rockhounds.
Survivors include his wife, Betty (Faber) Wendel, whom he married Dec. 14, 1946, in Oxford; five sons, Robert Wendel of Woodland Park, Colo., Dan Wendel, Roger Wendel and Edward Wendel, all of Fort Collins, Colo., and Mark Wendel of Wellington, Colo.; one daughter, Margaret Mantle of LaSalle, Colo.
Also surviving are four grandchildren; one great-grandson; two brothers, Robert Wendel and Bruce Wendel, both of Richmond, Ind.; two sisters, Helen Huss of Covington, Ky., and Maxine Lynch of Memphis, Tenn.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and two sisters, Gladys Gotter and Ruby Roach.
A memorial service was held Friday, Jan. 9, at Warren-Bohlender Funeral Chapel, with the Rev. Mike Lundgren officiating.
Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice, to the American Cancer Society, or to a charity of the donor's choice.

Charles D. Simon
Charles D. Simon, 80, of Bruce Street, Eaton, died Tuesday morning, Feb. 17, 1998, at his home after an extended illness.
Born Jan. 16, 1918, in Newport, Ky., he was the son of William F. and Minnie (Draper) Simon. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II and retired in 1972 after 30 years of civil service with the U.S. Government. He had his own dance band prior to World War II and also in the 1950s.
Mr. Simon was a member of Grace Lutheran Church of Eaton; National Association of Retired Federal Employees #569; Scottish Rite, Valley of Dayton; Bolivar Lodge #82, F&AM; Preble Council #135, Eaton Chapter #22; Preble County 32nd Club; Cincinnati DAV Chapter #1; Middletown Commandery #71; Eaton Kiwanis Club; and Buckeye Sheriff's Association.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Irene Thyra (Heinlein) Simon, in 1993.
Survivors include a stepdaughter, Carol Susan Louis of Burlington, N.J.; and two stepsons, John and Robert Hamilton.
Funeral services were Thursday, Feb. 19, at Barnes Funeral Home-Eaton Chapel, with Chaplain Linda K. Jones officiating. Burial was in Somerville Cemetery, Somerville.
Memorial contributions may be made to Shriner's Burn Hospital, 3229 Burnet Ave., Cincinnati, Ohio 45229.

Frederick J. Nelson
Frederick "Fred" J. Nelson, 81, of Lewisburg-Ozias Road, Lewisburg, died Thursday, Feb. 19, 1998, after an extended illness.
Born March 26, 1916, in Catoosa (Morgan County), Tenn., he was the son of Grover F. and Clara A. (Farmer) Nelson. He had lived in Lewisburg since 1951.
Mr. Nelson was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II, and retired in 1979 from Delco Moraine (GM) after 29 years of service. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of New Lebanon.
Survivors include his wife of 59 years, Geneva R. (Bonham) Nelson; sons and daughters-in-law, Howard and JoAnn Nelson of West Alexandria, Michael and Ginny Nelson of Lewisburg; daughters and sons-in-law, Carol Requarth of Lewisburg, Pat and Dan Bowman, Judy and Lee Myers, all of West Alexandria.
Also surviving are grandchildren, Greg and Robbie Childers, Joe, Kevin and Derrick Nelson, Debbie (Kaylor) Childers, Jeff and Kari Bowman, Steve Shiverdecker, Brandy (Shiverdecker) Schindler and Melissa (Nelson) Lewis; and 20 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Archie Farrell Nelson, in 1986; grandsons, Matthew Michael Nelson, in 1981, and Ricky Bowman, in 1981.
Funeral services were Monday, Feb. 23, at Barnes Funeral Home-Lewisburg Chapel, with the Rev. James Whorton officiating. Burial was in Roselawn Cemetery, Lewisburg.
Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, Preble County Unit, P.O. Box 203, Eaton, Ohio 45320; or to the First Baptist Church, 335 S. Church St., New Lebanon, Ohio 45345.

Phyllis A. Ditty
Phyllis A. Ditty, 67, of New Paris, died Saturday, Feb. 21, 1998, at Wayne Hospital in Greenville after an extended illness.
Born Oct. 1, 1930, in Camden, she was the daughter of William and Ollie (Hensley) Peters. She was a cook at several local truck stops for over 20 years.
Survivors include her husband of 46 years, LaVerne F. Ditty; sons and daughters-in-law, Robert A. and Scherie Peters of New Madison, James E. and Patty Ditty of New Madison and Frank W. Ditty of Richmond, Ind.; daughters, Marilyn A. Ditty and friend Steve Schmidt of New Paris, and Linda S. Woodyard of New Madison; 16 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; a brother, Ed Peters of California; nieces, nephews and cousins.
She was preceded in death by five brothers, Joe, Lester, Robert, James and Ernest Peters; and three sisters, Betty Puckett, Helen Peters and Pauline Cole.
Funeral services and burial will be held at the convenience of the family. Barnes Funeral Home-New Paris Chapel, is in charge of arrangements.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Tri-Village Rescue Unit, New Madison, Ohio.

Charles R. Gregg
Charles R. Gregg, 71, of Pleasant Valley Road, died unexpectedly Wednesday evening, Feb. 18, 1998, at the Adena Regional Medical Center.
Born Jan. 18, 1927, in Eldorado, he was the son of the late Hugh E. and Debbie A. (Shoe) Gregg. He served in the U.S. Marine Corps during World War II and had retired in 1989 from the Mead Corp. after 43 years.
Mr. Gregg was a member of the First Christian Church, UPIU Local 731, American legion Post 757, Mead Retirees Club and was a lieutenant in the Union Township Volunteer Fire Department, of which he had been a member for 35 years.
Survivors include his wife, Betty M. (Dudley) Gregg, whom he married Jan. 18, 1947; a daughter, Robin L. Snow of Columbus; a son and daughter-in-law, Michael L. and Karen L. Gregg of Chillicothe; six grandchildren, Michel Grooms, Jeremy Gregg, Shawn Snow, Charles Snow, Carrie Feltner and Eli Dennewitz; two great-grandchildren, Sydney Grooms and Emylee Grooms.
Also surviving are sisters and brothers-in-law, Juanita and Delbert Weaver of Castine, Betty and Robert Meador of Frankfort, Ind., Goldie and Howard Montgomery of Greenville, JoAnn and Kenneth Deisher of Lewisburg; a sister, Katherine Baker of Plant City, Fla.; a brother and sister-in-law, Lester and Ila Gregg of Dayton; a brother, Hugh Gregg of Smyrna, Ga.; several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by a sister, Mary Baldwin; an infant sister, Olive; and brothers, Walter and George Gregg.
Funeral services were Saturday, Feb. 21, at Ware Funeral Home, with the Rev. Greg Bibler officiating. Burial, with military graveside rites by the Ross County Veterans' Firing Squad, was in Springbank Cemetery.
