Charles R. Myers
Charles R, Myers, 84, of Chillicothe, died 4:42 p.m., Wednesday, January 1, 2003, in Four Seasons Health Care Facility, Jackson, following an extended illness.
He was born October 9, 1918, in Ross County, the son of the late William and Golda England Myers. On May 22, 1942, he married Olive Staffan, who survives.
Also surviving are a step-son and wife, Ellis and Hilda Johnson, Chillicothe; six granddaughters, Robin (Michael) Archey and Rhonda (Randy) Collins, all of Chillicothe; Lisa Brown, North Carolina; Reva (Steve) Uhrig, Chillicothe; Lenny (Roger) Kent, Ray; and Roni Pflug, Chillicothe; 10 great grandchildren; and four great-great grandchildren; one sister Isabelle Scott, Londonderry; and several nieces and nephews.
One stepdaughter and two brothers, Harry and Donald, preceded him in death.
Mr. Myers was a veteran of WW II, serving in the US Army, and retired from the VA Medical Center Kitchen after 13 years of service.
Funeral Services will be held 1:00 p.m., Saturday, January 4, 2003, in the Fawcett Oliver Glass & Palmer Funeral Home, with Pastor Robert Uhrig officiating. Burial will follow in Little Mound Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home from Noon until the hour of service Saturday.

Paul R. Parks
Paul R. Parks, 45, of Chillicothe, died Tuesday, in the Adena Regional Medical Center.
Arrangements pending at the Ware Funeral Home.

Ruth E. Smith
Ruth E. Smith, 85, of Chillicothe, died 4:00 p.m. January 1, 2003, in the Chillicothe Nursing and Rehab Center, following an extended illness.
She was born December 31, 1917, in Xenia, OH, to William C. and Adelaide Weghaupt Klinker. She later married Gail F. Smith, who died May 4, 1996.
Survivors include two daughters, Judith A. (Gary) Miller, with whom she lived, of Chillicothe, and Sandra (Michael) Yeakley, of Newark, OH; two sons, David G. (Glenda) Smith, of Plano, TX, and Daniel L. (Melanie) Smith, of Indianapolis, IN; eight grandchildren; seven great grandchildren; and a sister, Katherine Gavin, of Waverly. She was preceded in death by to brothers, Ronald and Robert Klinker, and a sister, Mildred Wagner.
She was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church, where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 1:00 p.m., Monday, January 6, 2003, Rev. Lawrence Hummer, Celebrant. Burial will follow in St. Margaret Cemetery. Friends may call 11:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Monday at Haller Funeral Home.
Memorial contributions may be made to the St. Vincent DePaul Society, c/o St. Mary Church, 61 S. Paint., Chillicothe.

Harold M. Riffle
Harold M. Riffle, 87, of Chillicothe, died Thursday afternoon, in Adena Regional Medical Center Emergency Room.

Woodrow Wilson Deskins
Woodrow Wilson Deskins, 86, of Piketon, died Sunday at Pleasant Hill Manor.
Arrangements are pending Boyer Funeral Home.

Dorella M. Watters
Dorella M. Watters, 72, of Akron, formerly of Chillicothe, died Saturday, in Akron City Hospital following an extended illness.
A graveside service will be held 2 p.m. Tuesday in Mt. Carmel Cemetery. There will be no calling hours. Arrangements are under the direction of the Ware Funeral Home.

Mary Ann "Ginny" Downs
Mary Ann "Ginny" Downs, 71, of Chillicothe, died 1:47 p.m. Friday, January 10, 2003, following a battle with cancer. She was born January 13, 1931, in Canton, OH to the late Joseph and Bernice Gickler Grote. On October 10, 1950, she married Thomas D. Downs, who survives.
Also surviving are her daughters and sons-in-law Karen Ann (Arthur) Fisher, and Particia Lynn (James) Conaway, all of Chillicothe; son Thomas D. Downs, Jr., and his fiancee Mary Westbrook, Harrisburg, PA; and son and daughter-in-law Mark A (Starla) Downs, Chillicothe; grandchildren: Thomas D. (Deborah) Downs III, Christopher (Tiffany) Downs, Matthew Dows, Casie Downs, Olivia M. Downs, Arthur C. (Mari) Fisher, Jason C. Fisher, Jessica Downs, Jamie Conaway, and Paulina Conaway; 11 great-grandchildren; sisters Jo Ann (Gene) Maddox, June (George) Wolf, and Jean West; sisters-in-law Jane (Paul) Miller, Nancy Riehle, Caroline Whalen, Eva (John) Adrian, Opal (Floyd) Fables, Mary Austin, Florence McDaniel, and Violet Graves. She was predeceased by a brother-in-law Orville West.
Mrs. Downs had worked for the American Greeting Card Co. and was an Air Force Veteran of the Korean Conflict. She was a member of the Chillicothe High School Class of 1949.
Funeral services will be held 1 p.m. Tuesday, January 14, 2003, at the Haller Funeral Home with Rev. James Groves officiating. Military graveside services conducted by the Ross County Veterans Firing squad will follow in the Grandview Cemetery. Friends may call one hour prior to the funeral at Haller Funeral Home.
Memorial contributions may be made to Adena Hospice, 111 W. Water St., Chillicothe.

Thelma M. Hayes
Thelma M. Hayes, 71, of Chillicothe, died 2:10 a.m. Friday, January 10, 2003, in the Adena Regional Medical Center following an extended illness.
She was born March 16, 1931, in Fayette Co., to the late Farrell and Beatrice L. Beatty Chaney.
Surviving are; sons, Vernon Hayes of Kingston, Charles (Kathy) Hayes, David Hayes and Bruce Rearly, all of Chillicothe; daughters, Donna (Robert) Hughes of Chillicothe, Marjorie (George) Brown of Buckeye Lake; seven grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; sister, Catherine Malott of Peebles, Ohio and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by a son, Robert Hayes and a brother.
Thelma was a nurse's aide.
Graveside services will be held 1 p.m. Wednesday, January 15, 2003, in Mt. Carmel Cemetery with Rev. Lesley Allen officiating. There will be no calling hours. Arrangements are under the direction of the Ware Funeral Home.

Lillian M. (Hatfield) Kennedy
Lillian Marcella Kennedy, 79, of Chillicothe, passed away 5:15 p.m. Friday, January 10, 2003 in Sunbridge Nursing Home in Circleville, following an extended illness.
Lillian was born Feb. 7, 1923 in Chillicothe to the late Emory O. and Emma A. Watters Hatfield. On Nov. 9, 1945, she married Donald A. Kennedy, who preceded her in death on Nov.16,1991.
She is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Jan and Ginger Kennedy, Kingston, Ohio; grandsons, LJ (Hillery) Kennedy, Chillicothe; and Chad Kennedy, Cleveland, Ohio; great-grandsons, Nicholas and Brandon Kennedy, Chillicothe; sister, Charlotte Kuhn, Chillicothe; and several nieces and nephews. Lillian was predeceased by brothers, Lawrence and John "Bill" Hatfield and a sister Marjorie McKee.
Graveside services will be held 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, January 14, 2003 in Greenlawn Cemetery with Reverend Barry Bennett officiating. Calling hours will not be observed.
Arrangements are under the direction of the Ware Funeral Home.

Roger Earl Thornburg
Roger Earl Thornburg, 59, formerly of Chillicothe, died Saturday at the Chillicothe Veterans Administration Medical Center.

Jeffrey H. Tweed
Jeffrey H. Tweed, 46, of Chillicothe, died Thursday, January 9, 2003, at his residence unexpectedly.
He was born March 11, 1956, in Ross Co., to Glen and Phyllis Russell Tweed. He was married to the former Kim Richter who survives.
In addition to his mother of Chillicothe, he is also survived by his wife, the former Kim Richter, of Chillicothe, stepchildren, Joshua and Jamey; sister, Janice (Garry) Schlottog, of Belleville, Illinois; niece, Kamra Schlottog and nephew, Tighe (Jaime) Schlottog. He was predeceased by his father.
Jeffrey was a Vietnam veteran serving in the U.S. Marine Corps. and attended the First Church of God. He was a self employed pallet maker and had worked for the Mobile Power Wash Company.
Funeral services will be held 1 p.m. Tuesday, January 14, 2003, in the Ware Funeral Home with Rev. J. Darrell Hatfield officiating. Burial will follow in Londonderry Cemetery where there will be military graveside rites by the Ross Co. Veterans Firing Squad. Friends may call at the Ware's from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday.
