Lowell Walter Graves
Lowell Walter Graves, 66, of Higby Rd., Chillicothe, died Wednesday, December 31, 2003, at his home.
He was born June 15, 1937, in Londonderry, the son of the late Cloyd U. Graves and Mary Eloise (Holbrook) Graves, of Chillicothe.
Surviving are one son, Larry Graves, and Lora Husted, of Bainbridge; two daughters, Sharon Detty and Bret Collins, of Waverly, and Marsha (Shawn) Compher, of Frankfort; seven grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; one brother, William (Rita) Graves, of Richmond Dale, and longtime companion, Vicki Lansing and her children, Joshua Lansing and Jennifer Lansing, of Richmond Dale.
In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by one brother, Larry Graves.
Lowell was a farmer.
Funeral services will be held 10:30 a.m. Friday, January 2, 2004, at Boyer Funeral Home, Waverly, with Rev. G. T. Wright officiating. Burial will follow in Londonderry Cemetery.
Calling hours will not be observed.
Memorial gifts may be made to Adena Hospice, 111 W. Water Street, Chillicothe, OH 45601.

Harry G. Ragland Sr.
Harry G. Ragland Sr., age 89, of Frankfort, died at 8:30 p.m. Monday, Dec. 29, 2003, at Adena Regional Medical Center. He was born on Feb. 22, 1914, in Jackson County, the son of the late Charles E. and Daisy Anne Jones Ragland. On Nov. 1, 1938, he married the former Beatrice Mitchell, who survives.
Also surviving are two sons, Harry G. (Chris) Ragland, Jr., of Campbell Hall, NY, and Antoine D. (Dina) Ragland, of Frankfort; 12 grandchildren and numerous great grandchildren, as well as a brother, Roger Ragland, of Frankfort. He was preceded in death by two daughters, Wilma Jean and Martha Jane Ragland; two sons, Harold Wendell and John Ellis Ragland; two sisters and five brothers.
Harry retired from the Chillicothe Veterans Hospital, where he had worked in Housekeeping. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II, was a member of the Roxabel Second Baptist Church and the former Cedar Grove Lodge #17 F&AM in Greenfield.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, Jan. 2, 2004, at 1 p.m. in the Roxabel Second Baptist Church, with Pastor Robert Bryant officiating. Burial will follow in Greenlawn Cemetery, Frankfort, where military honors will be accorded by the Frankfort American Legion. Friends may call at the funeral home on Thursday from 5-8 p.m. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be sent to the Ragland family to help with expenses at PO Box 264, Frankfort, OH 45628.

Charles Edward Robertson
Charles E. Robertson, 77, of Chillicothe, died 3:40 a.m. Wednesday, December 31, 2003, in the Adena Regional Medical Center.
He was born June 20, 1926, in Ross County, to the late Roy Alton and Anna C. Kness Robertson. He married the former Gwin Elliott, who survives.
Also surviving are children, Charles "Tim" Jr. (Marilyn) Robertson, Patricia (Rodney) Poole and Holly Robertson, all of Chillicothe, and Melissa Robertson, of Columbus; four grandchildren; four great grandchildren; brothers, Herbert E. Robertson, of Chillicothe, and Arthur Lee (Carol Ann) Robertson, of Ashville, OH; sisters, Dorothy Vandagriff, of Laurelville, and Shirley (June) Reeser, of Circleville; and nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by an infant son, David Lee Robertson and an infant brother, Homer.
Charles attended various local churches. He was an auto mechanic and farmer and loved his John Deere tractors.
A graveside service will be held 2 p.m. Sunday, January 4, 2004, in the Charleston Church of the Brethren Cemetery. Friends may call at Ware Funeral Home from 6 to 8 p.m. Saturday.

Jean Rosemary Scaggs
Jean Rosemary Scaggs, 72, of Chillicothe, died 2:30 p.m. Monday, December 29, 2003, in Westmoreland Place, following an extended illness.
She was born November 9, 1931, in Ross County, to the late Raymond E. and Carlene J. Proehl Barrows. On February 4, 1948, she married Donald Scaggs, who died December 5, 1998.
Surviving are a son, Keith A. (Cherry) Scaggs, of Chillicothe; daughter, Raedonna J. (Jeffery L.) Frank, of Chillicothe; son-in-law, George Wojciechowski, of Milwaukee, Wisconsin; fourteen grandchildren; nineteen great-grandchildren; brothers, Jack (Helen) Barrows, Raymond (Pat) Barrows, Jr. and Miles (Kay) Barrows, all of Chillicothe; brothers-in-law, Robert F. (Garnet) Scaggs, of Waverly, and Ernest H. (Keiko) Scaggs, of Chillicothe; also aunts, uncles nieces and nephews and a very dear friend, Patty Zischler, of Milwaukee, Wisconsin. She was predeceased by a daughter, Deborah K. Wojciechowski, and a brother, James Barrows.
Funeral services will be held 1:30 p.m. Saturday, January 3, 2004, in Ware Funeral Home, with Rev. Jack Norman officiating. Burial will follow in Mt. Pleasant Cemetery. Friends may call at Ware's from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday.

Virginia Grable Van Voorhis
Virginia Grable Van Voorhis, 94, of Chillicothe, died 5:14 p.m. Wednesday, December 31, 2003, at Adena Regional Medical Center following a short illness.
She was born September 5, 1909, in Pickerington, OH, to the late Frank and Irma Langel Grable. On December 25, 1930, she married Paul C. Van Voorhis who died May 11, 1984.
Surviving are children, Bill (Amy) Van Voorhis, of Chillicothe, Marilyn (Peter) Wendler, of Maumee, OH and Jane Gemmill, of Toledo, OH; grandchildren, Laura (Kevin) Schneider, Melissa (Robert) Steinecker, Andrew (Leigh) Wendler, Sarah (Eric) Knutson, Elizabeth (Bill) Westbrook, Trena Van Voorhis, Jane (Matt) Salyers and Ann Van Voorhis and her fiancé, Jason Dye; great-grandchildren, Steven and Paige Schneider, Andrew, Marlaina and Matthew Steinecker, James Van Voorhis, Henry, Eleanor and Margaret Knutson, Trout Westbrook and Andrew W. Wendler; a niece, Ardine (Richard) Smith; nephews, Ray (Alice) Van Voorhis and John (Carolyn) Van Voorhis; and many good friends. She was predeceased by grandsons, David and Tom Gemmill; a sister, Catherine Barr; and a brother, Byron Grable.
Virginia was a member of the First Presbyterian Church, where she served as an Elder and had been an active Women's Board member of the church. Mrs. Van Voorhis served as a volunteer for the American Red Cross. She was a member of the YMCA Board, the Brewer Heights Garden Club, Friends of the Library, Pump House Art Gallery and the Stop Cancer Shop. She was an avid bridge player.
Funeral services will be held 3 p.m. Sunday, January 4, 2004, in First Presbyterian Church with Rev. James W. Grove officiating. Burial will follow in Grandview Cemetery. There will be no calling hours. Arrangements are under the direction of Ware Funeral Home.

Edward Ellifritt
Edward Ellifritt, 87, of Chillicothe, died Thursday, Jan. 1, 2004, at Adena Regional Medical Center following a brief illness.
Arrangements are pending at the Ware Funeral Home.

Richard Pierce
Richard "Dick" Pierce, 75, of Chillicothe, died Wednesday, Dec. 31, 2003, at Chillicothe Veterans Affairs Medical Center following a short illness.
Arrangements are pending at the Ware Funeral Home.

Goldie Beatrice Blankenship
Goldie Beatrice Blankenship, passed away December 31, at sunset, surrounded by family and friends, at Walnut Manor, in Clarksburg, Ohio. She was the oldest child of Selmer Emmitt and Sarah Elizabeth ( Hatfield ) Davis, born February 2, 1912, on Wilson Run Road, in Ross County, Ohio.

Robert E. Brown
Robert E. Brown, 77, of Black Run Rd., died December 25, 2003, at Farm Living, Chillicothe.
There will be a graveside memorial service 11 a.m. Tuesday, January 6, 2004, in the Twin Township Cemetery, with a military service performed by the Ross County Firing Squad.
Arrangements are by Smith-Moore Funeral Home, Bainbridge.
