Kenneth A. Rogers, 82, of 10080 W. Greenville-Falls Road, Covington, passed away Sunday, June 8, 2003, in his home. Services are pendingin the Pearson-Jackson Funeral Home, Covington.

Louis J. Goecke
Died: Saturday, June 07, 2003
Age: 76

MARIA STEIN - Louis J. "Bing" Goecke, 76, 8376 State Route 119, died Saturday, June 7, 2003, at 3 p.m. at his residence.

He was born June 25, 1926, in St. Henry, the son of Fred Goecke and Frances (Albers) Goecke.

On July 9, 1949, he married Madonna (Hausfeld) Goecke in Maria Stein. She survives.

Other survivors are seven sons and spouses, Tom and Sue Goecke of Rocky River, Ohio, Fred Goecke and Mike Goecke, both of Maria Stein, Paul Goecke of Fort Loramie, Ken and Kerin Goecke of Middleburg, Pa., Phil and Karen Goecke of Belle Center, and Tony and Lisa Goecke of Liberty, Ind.; seven daughters and spouses, Jane and Scott Goeller of Kettering, Kathy and Tim Stonecash of Springboro, Judy and John Townsend of Neptune, Ohio, Doris and Carl Hess of Maria Stein, Cindy and Dan Chappie of Grier, S.C., Carol and Dave Flora of Greenfield, Ind., and Marcia and Roy Homan of Auburn, Ky.; 44 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and a sister, Dottie Gavit of North Star.

Two sisters and four brothers are deceased.

Mr. Goecke was retired from Monarch Machine and Tool and a self-employed salesman. He attended St. John Catholic Church of Maria Stein. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army during World War II. He was an avid gardener. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and will be dearly missed.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Wednesday, June 11, 2003, at St. John Church, with the Rev. Kenneth Schroeder officiating. Burial will be in St. John cemetery, Maria Stein.

Friends may call at Hogenkamp Funeral Home in Minster Tuesday, June 10, from 2 to 8 p.m. and Wednesday, June 11, from 9 to 10 a.m.

Fred W. Fischer Jr.
Died: Saturday, June 07, 2003
Age: 72

TIPP CITY - A loving husband, father and friend, Fred W. Fischer Jr., 72, of Tipp City, passed away on Saturday, June 7, 2003 after a lengthy illness.

Fred was born in Wapakoneta on Nov. 28, 1930 to Fred Sr. and Vivian Fischer. After graduating from Blume High School in 1948, he received a bachelor of science degree in pharmacy from Ohio Northern University in 1953. After serving in the Korean War, Fred owned and operated Cramer's Pharmacy with partner, Hugh Cramer, from 1957 to 1973, and then was sole proprietor until 1981. Since then he was employed as a pharmacist at Bunny's Pharmacy in Sidney. Fred was also an active member in his community having served on the Miami County Health Board, the Zion Lutheran Church Board, the Monroe Federal Savings and Loan Board, having served as chairman of the board, and the Tipp City Library Board of Trustees. He was also a member of the Tipp City Rotary Club, having served as past president, and a member of the Paul Harris Fellowship.

Fred was preceded in death by his parents, his first wife, Octavia (Davis) Fischer, in 1976, and his stepmother Thelma Fischer. He will be deeply missed by his second wife, Billie (Neff) Fischer; children, Sharon (Chet) Osborn of Columbus, Mark (Kim) Fischer of North Canton, Pamela (Bil) Homka of Toledo, Daniel (Debbie) Danielson of Troy, Melissa (Mark) Klare of Poughkeepsie, New York, and Mark Fox of Troy; sisters, Elizabeth Drexler of Celina, and Karen Kinstle of Wapakoneta; "brother, " special friend, Jack McCracken of Waynesburg, Pa.; 13 grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

The funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, June 11 at Frings & Bayliff Funeral Home in Tipp City. Pastor Steve Gellatly will be officiating. Burial will be in Maple Hill cemetery, Tipp City.

Friends will be received from 5-8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Tipp City Library or Zion Lutheran Church.

Lela D. Huffman
Died: Friday, June 06, 2003
Age: 97

LEBANON - Lela D. Huffman, 97, of 585 N. St. Rt. 741, died at 10:05 p.m. Friday, June 6, 2003 in the Otterbein-Lebanon Nursing Home. She was born in Maplewood, on Feb. 17, 1906 to the late Lloyd and Orra Miars Howell. She married Ernest W. Huffman on Feb. 14, 1926, and he preceded her in death on March 25, 1980.

Survivors include a daughter and son-in-law, Esther and Cecil Shearer of Monroe; four grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandsons. She was preceded in death by a son, Gerald Huffman, four brothers, two sisters and a grandson, Timothy Cain.

Mrs. Huffman was a member of Grace United Methodist Church of Piqua, a past member of the Springcreek Community Club, and she was a homemaker all of her life.

A funeral service will be conducted at 2 p.m. today in the Jamieson & Yannucci Funeral Home in Piqua with the Rev. Roger Toon officiating. Burial will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday in Miami Memorial Park cemetery in Covington. Visitation will be from 1-2 p.m. today in the funeral home.

Douglas T. Lee
Died: Thursday, June 05, 2003
Age: 52

Douglas T. Lee, 52, 708 Park St., died Thursday, June, 5, 2003, at Miami Valley Hospital.

He was born June 16, 1950, in Sidney, the son of the late Theodore and Marlene (Cumberland) Lee.

He is survived by a son, Chad W. Lee of Sidney; a daughter, Mrs. DeShawn (Penny) Deshazor of Bellefontaine; his financee, Paulette Chambers of Sidney; five grandchildren; a brother Darryl and sister-in-law Cindy Lee of Sidney; three sisters, Mrs. George (Jackie) Shropshire, Phyllis Smith and Debrah K. Lee, all of Sidney.

Mr. Lee was employed by Norcold Corporation of Sidney for 28 years. He was an avid monster truck fan. He collected Match Box Cars and loved jazz music. He played drums and keyboard.

The funeral will be Monday at 1:30 p.m. at Cromes Funeral Home in Sidney, with the Rev. Ernest Wilson officiating. Burial will be in Graceland cemetery in Sidney.

Calling hours will be Sunday from 3-7 p.m. at Cromes Funeral Home.

Glenna Jay Alspaugh-Whitmer
Died: Thursday, June 05, 2003
Age: 89

GREENVILLE - Glenna Jay Alspaugh-Whitmer, 89, of the Greenville Brethren Home, and formerly of Pleasant Hill and West Milton, died at 9:16 a.m. Thursday, June 5, 2003, at Greenville Brethren Home.

She was born Sept. 4, 1913, in Pleasant Hill to the late Forest and Stacy A. (Jay) Noll. She was preceded in death by her first husband of more than 55 years, Joseph H. Alspaugh in 1989, and then her second husband, Arthur Whitmer, in January 2003.

She was a Newton High School graduate, a certified state horticulturist, and a 50-year member of the Covington Garden Club. Glenna, along with her husband, Joseph, were active members and held offices for the national, state and county Brown Swiss and Tamworth Swine Association. She was a Pleasant Hill Church of the Brethren member and had also served the church as deaconess.

She retired from Ed Smith Florist in Dayton, where she was employed as a floral designer. She had previously worked for Fenner Flowers in Covington. She also retired along with her husband, Joseph, from their family farming operation. She also served as judge for many local and state floral and gardening competitions.

Survivors include her daughter and son-in-law, Stacy Jo and Daniel L. Geuy of Pleasant Hill; stepchildren, Jan Harmon, Dale Geuy and Sally Zeigler; grandchildren, Leroy and Kay Wise of Pleasant Hill and Carmen Conley of Pleasant Hill; many stepgrandchildren; great-grandchildren, Trey Tucker, Kara Wise and Allison Wise, all of Pleasant Hill; many nieces and nephews; sister, Mary Esther and Warren Jackson of Pleasant Hill; brother, Marion and Mary Noll of New Lebanon; and extended family and friends.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, with calling hours from 10 a.m. until the time of service at Jackson Funeral Home, Pleasant Hill, with Pastor Nick Beam officiating. Burial will be in Pleasant Hill cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made to Greenville Brethren Home, Resident's Activity Fund, Rosewood Fourth Floor.

John M. Sherman
Died: Tuesday, June 03, 2003
Age: 88

John M. Sherman, 88, of 10 Bronze Crest, El Paso, Texas, died Tuesday, June 3, 2003 in El Paso, Texas.

He was born March 10, 1915 in Fremont, to the late John H. and Mary (Williams) Sherman. he married Marie May Humberger; she preceded him in death April 25, 2002.

Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, Dr. John M. and Catherine Susanne Sherman III of El Paso, Texas; daughter, Polly Ann Thomas of El Paso, Texas; seven grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; brother, Phil Sherman of Chatam, R.I.; and sister, Mary Caskey of Cornwall, N.Y.

His brother, Richard Sherman, preceded him in death.

He was a Methodist and was a retired electrical engineer.

Graveside funeral services will be held at 2:30 p.m. Saturday, June 14 at Riverside cemetery, Troy, with the Rev. Dr. James C. Wilson II officiating. Burial will be in Riverside cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made to Christian Hands in Action, 2900 Pershing Dr., El Paso, TX 79903.

Virgil Thomas Myers

TROY - Virgil Thomas "Tom" Myers Jr., 57, of 917 Walker St., Troy, passed away on April 19, 2003 at Koester Pavilion, Troy. There will be a graveside service at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, June 14 at Trissel cemetery, New Lebanon. Arrangements are in care of Fisher-Cheney Funeral Home, Troy.annie" StewaLucia "Jeannie" Stewart, 62, of Troy, died at 4:45 a.m. Thursday, June 12, 2003 at Upper Valley Medical Center, Troy. Arrangements are pending at Fisher-Cheney Funeral Home.

Stanley Lowell Hudson Jr.
Died: Saturday, May 31, 2003
Age: 56

DEGRAFF - Stanley "Sonny" Lowell Hudson Jr., 56, 1700 County Road 24 North, DeGraff, died on Monday, May 31, 2003 of injuries sustained in an auto accident on U.S. 68 near West Liberty.

He was born Jan. 4, 1947, in Logan County, the son of the late Stanley L. and Pearl (Stinson) Hudson Sr., who survives in Bellefontaine.

On April 26, 1997, he married the former Julie Godwin in New Richland and she survives.

He is also survived by a son, Bradley Hudson of Quincy; three daughters, Lindsey Hudson of DeGraff, Dawn and husband Doug Yoder of Bellefontaine and Kristi and husband Gary Thomas of Bellefontaine; a stepson, Dan Defibaugh of DeGraff; a step-daughter, Katie Defibaugh of DeGraff; eight grandchildren; brother and sister-in-law, Fred and Vicki Hudson of DeGraff; two sisters, Deann Smith of DeGraff and Jeanne and husband Mike Hall of Bellefontaine and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by a nephew and a great-nephew.

Mr. Hudson was a self-employed general contractor. He was a member of the board of trustees of DeGraff Freewill Baptist Church. He was a 1965 graduate of Indian Lake High School.

The funeral will be Thursday at 2 p.m. at DeGraff Freewill Baptist Church, with the Revs. James R. Roby and Gary Brown officiating. Burial will be in Greenwood-Union cemetery in DeGraff.

Calling hours will be Wednesday from 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. at Rexer-Riggin-Madden Funeral Home in DeGraff.

Memorial contributions may be made to the DeGraff Freewill Baptist Church.

Lynn L. Forrest
Died: Saturday, May 31, 2003
Age: 43

PIQUA - Lynn L. Forrest, 43, of Piqua, formerly of Troy, died at 1:24 a.m. Saturday, May 31, 2003, at Upper Valley Medical Center.

Ms. Forrest was born Aug. 12, 1959 in Troy.

Ms. Forrest is survived by her companion, David Purkhiser; son, Matthew Dawson of Cedar Park, Texas; daughter, Nikki Forrest at home; sister, Michelle Hileman of Tipp City; grandmother, Marjorie Manson of Troy; several aunts uncles and cousins.

She was preceded in death by her father, Ivan Manson and her mother, Donna.

She was formerly the manager of the Hardees restaurant in Troy and was a former owner and operator of an area construction company. More recently, she was a mother and a homemaker. She was a member of the First Lutheran Church in Troy; Active Rondezvour and an avid reader and card player.

A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, June 2, 2003 at Baird Funeral Home in Troy. Burial will be in Riverside cemetery in Troy.

Friends may call from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be given for an educational fund for her daughter, Nikki.

Gladys V. Gibbs
Died: Saturday, May 31, 2003
Age: 83

Gladys V. "Cookie" Gibbs, 83, 1287 Tully Drive, died Saturday, May 31, 2003, at 3 a.m. after suffering a heart attack while on vacation in East Liverpool, Ohio.

She was born Feb. 19, 1920, in Worley, Ky., to Louis and Margaret (Garland) Strunk.

On Dec. 19, 1974, she married Francis Gibbs. He died March 12, 1999.

She is survived by a daughter, JoAnn Logan of Sidney; three grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; three sisters, Effie Holloway of Anna and Ruby Wilburn and Wanda Cotterman, both of Sidney; and two brothers, Ralph Strunk and Robert Strunk, both of Sidney.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, five brothers and a sister.

Cookie was retired from Wilson Memorial Hospital and was a member of Solid Rock Pentecostal Church.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, June 3, 2003, at Solid Rock Pentecostal Church in Sidney. The Rev. Anthony Krummrey will officiate. Burial will follow at Cedar Point cemetery in Pasco.

Friends may call at the church Tuesday from noon until the time of the service.

Adams Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

The family requests that in lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Cookie's memory to the church's building fund.
