Mamie Jewel Burgess, 68, 209 Liberty St., Quincy, Ohio died on Wednesday, September 20, 2006 at 5:30 AM at Wilson Memorial Hospital. She was born July 31, 1938 in Chesapeak, West Virginia the daughter of Arlie and Louise B. (Walton) Compton and they are deceased. She was married October 11, 1956 to Robert Burgess and he died June 26, 2004. She is survived by one daughter, Julie Broadus of Sidney and two grandchildren, Nicole and Jessica Redinbo; one sister, Patricia Boggs of Dayton, Ohio; brother-in-law, Darrel Morgan of Cleveland; and brothers, Charles Compton of Fairview, Missouri, Glen Compton of Mansfield, Ohio and Gene Compton of Quincy, Ohio. One sister, Mary Morgan is deceased. She was a member of the New Richland Baptist Church, New Richland, Ohio. She was a homemaker. As per her request, the body was cremated and there are no calling hours. Salm-McGill and Tangeman Funeral Home is handling the funeral arrangements.

Barbara J. Hecht, 61, Harmony Court, 6969 Glen Meadow Lane, Cincinnati, Ohio, formerly of Sidney, Ohio died at the nursing home on Monday, October 2, 2006 at 9:00 PM. She was born September 24, 1945 in Sidney, Ohio the daughter of Christ and Ursula (Magato) Hecht and they are deceased. Surviving are two brothers, Paul E. Hecht of Sidney and Donald Lee Hecht of Houston, Ohio and one sister, Norma Stengel of Lakeview, Ohio. Four brothers and two sisters are deceased. She was a member of Holy Angels Catholic Church. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, October 5, 2006 at 10:30 AM at Salm-McGill and Tangeman Funeral Home with Rev. Patrick McMullen. Burial will be at Shelby Memory Gardens, Sidney, Ohio. Friends may call at the funeral home on Thursday, from 9:00 AM until the hour of service. Memorial contributions may be made to the Epilepsy Foundation, 7523 Brandt Pike, Huber Heights, Ohio 45424.

Joan McKinnon

Joan McKinnon, 84, Sidney Care Center, Sidney, Ohio died at the nursing home on Tuesday, October 10, 2006 at 1:20 AM. She was born September 19, 1922 in Olean, New York the daughter of Robert and Mildred (Delmaker) McKinnon and they are deceased. Surviving is one brother, Robert Heber and his wife Linda of Kirkwood, Ohio and four nieces and nephews, Charles Heber of Atlanta, Georgia; Diana Heber of Piqua, Ohio; Michael Heber of Piqua, Ohio; and Patrick Heber of West Milton, Ohio and one great nephew, Chase Allen Heber of Vandalia, Ohio. She was in the United States Marine Corp. in the Korean War. She was a member of the Presbyterian Church in Pittsburg, Pennsylvania. She had worked for the State of Florida Land Bank and also had been an English teacher in Lancaster, Ohio retiring in 1991. There are no calling hours and burial will take place at a later date at Memorial Gardens, Pittsburg, Pennsylvania. Salm-McGill and Tangeman Funeral Home is handling the funeral arrangements.

Jane Anna Whited

Jane Anna Whited, 84, Pavilion Nursing Home, 705 Fulton St., Sidney, Ohio died at the nursing home on Friday, October 20, 2006 at 8:30 PM. She was born August 21, 1922 in Decatur, Indiana, the daughter of Thomas Leo and Mary Ida (Adkins) Wood and they are deceased. She was married September 7, 1941 to Arnold Whited and he died in 2002. Surviving are six children, Margaret Wells of Columbus, Ohio; Stephen Arnold Whited of Sidney, Ohio; Larry Whited and wife Sharon of Fredericksburg, Virginia; Donald Whited of Columbus, Ohio; Dorothy Baker and husband Steve of Sidney, Ohio and Sarah Collier and husband Greg of Sidney, Ohio; twelve grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren; one sister, Dorothy Wood of Lakeview, Ohio; Donald Wood of Lakeview, Ohio and Jim Wood of Long Island, New York; One daughter, Mary Jane Whited and one son, Jim Whited are deceased and one brother, Dick Wood. She was a 1940 graduate of Holy Angels High School. She was a member of Holy Angels Catholic Church where she had been in the Altar Rosary Sodality, Daughters of Isabella and the Schoenstatt. She had been a homemaker, seamstress and upholsterer. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Wednesday, October 25, 2006 at 10:30 AM at Holy Angels Catholic Church with Rev. Patrick McMullen. Burial will be at Graceland cemetery, Sidney, Ohio. Friends may call at Salm-McGill and Tangeman Funeral Home on Tuesday, October 24, 2006 from 4-7 PM. Memorial contributions may be made to the Parkinson's Association, Juvenile Diabetes Assocation or the Pavilion Nursing Home Activities Fund, 705 Fulton St., Sidney, Ohio 45365. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.

Junetta "Judy" W. Russell

She was born October 13, 1935 in Westchester, Ohio the daughter of Russell and Loretta (Brown) Sloan and they are deceased. Surviving is her companion, Elgar "Sonny" Griffieth and four children, Doretta Alexander and husband Ron of Sidney, Ohio; Donetta Sawyer, Swaner Sawyer and Anthony Jarrells all of Columbus, Ohio and one sister, Doris Karnem of Piqua, Ohio. Two brothers are deceased. She was a homemaker. Graveside services will be held on Friday, October 27, 2006 at 2:00 PM at Pearl cemetery, Swanders, Ohio with Rev. Phil Chilcote. Memorial contributions may be made to Wilson Hospice, 915 W. Michigan St., Sidney, Ohio 45365.

He was born February 1, 1914 in Sidney, Ohio the son of I. A. and Margaret (Grilliot) Eshman and they are deceased. He was married in 1939 to Frances Weymer and he died May 6, 1974 and he married Helen Schutte Servis on April 8, 1978 and she died February 11, 2002. Surviving are five children, Mrs. Marion (Beverly) Elsner of Sidney, Ohio; Mrs. Roger (Frances) Zimpfer of Maplewood, Ohio; Joseph P. and wife Melanie of New Carlisle, Indiana; David Michael and wife Norma of Piqua, Ohio and Kathy Meadows and husband Tom of Sidney, Ohio and two step-daughters, Barbara George of Columbus, Ohio and Jeanice Bumgardner of Elkhart, Indiana; sixteen grandchildren and thirteen great-grandchildren. Fourteen brothers and sisters and two grandchildren are deceased. He was a 1932 graduate of Holy Angels School. He was a member of the Civilian Conservation Corp. in 1933 and a member of the Sidney Eagles. He was a member of Holy Angels Catholic Church. He had worked at General Motors in Dayton, Ohio and retired in 1975. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Tuesday, October 31, 2006 at 10:30 AM with Rev. Patrick McMullen at Holy Angels Catholic Church. Burial will be at Graceland cemetery, Sidney. Friends may call at Salm-McGill and Tangeman Funeral Home on Monday, October 30, 2006 from 5-8 PM. Memorial contributions may be made to the Holy Angels Endowment Fund, 324 S. Ohio Ave., Sidney, Ohio 45365. Envelopes will also be available at the funeral home.

Velma Leona Krebs

She was born September 8, 1914 in Anna, Ohio, the daughter of John Christian and Mary Ann (Faler) Liess. She was married February 6, 1934 to Eugene L. Krebs and he died March 1, 2000. Surviving are four children, Shirley Chmilelwski of Racine, Wisconsin; Leo Francis Krebs of Dayton, Ohio; Robert Leroy Krebs of Botkins, Ohio and Wayne Eugene Krebs of Botkins, Ohio; eighteen grandchildren and thirty great-grandchildren. Two brothers and one sister are deceased. She was a life member of Immaculate Conception Church, Botkins, Ohio and a member of the Rosary Sodality of the church; Knights of St. John Auxiliary; Town and Country Homemakers Club in Botkins, Ohio for many years; the Senior Citizens of Sidney and Botkins; loved flower gardening and playing cards. She was a homemaker. A Mass of Christian burial will be held on Saturday, November 18, 2006 at 10:30 AM at Immaculate Conception Church in Botkins, Ohio with Rev. Patrick Sloneker. Burial will be at Immaculate Conception cemetery, Botkins. Friends may call at Salm-McGill and Tangeman Funeral Home on Friday, November 17, 2006 from 3-7 PM.

Althea M. Goodhues

Althea M. Goodhues, 94, The Pavilion, 705 Fulton St., Sidney, Ohio died at the nursing home on Sunday, November 19, 2006 at 1:50 PM. She was born July 13, 1912 in Baltimore, Maryland the daughter of Daniel and Lenore Bankerd. She moved to Sidney in January of 1999 from Baltimore, Maryland. She was married on June 10, 1930 to Barond Goodhues and he died in 1991. Surviving are one daughter, Elizabeth Johnson of Sidney, Ohio and ten grandchildren and eighteen great-grandchildren. Also surviving is one brother, Daniel Bankerd and his wife Lillian of Baltimore, Maryland and two sister-in-laws, Barbara and Betty Goodhues. Two sons, Barry and Don Goodhues are deceased. She had previously worked at the Dutch Mill Supper Club as a cook which was owned by her brothers in Baltimore, Maryland and also had been employed as a telephone operator in Baltimore, Maryland. She was an avid shopper and a fan of the Baltimore Orioles Baseball team. She was a member of Holy Angels Catholic Church and a Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday, November 24, 2006 at 10:30 AM with Rev. Gerald Bensman. Burial will be at Delany Valley Memorial Gardens, Timonium, Maryland. Friends may call at Salm-McGill and Tangeman Funeral Home on Friday, November 24, 2006 from 9:00 AM until 10:00 AM at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, Southwest Regional Office, 2808 Reading Road, Cincinnati, Ohio 45206.
