COURTNEY
Florence E. Courtney, 79, of 3367 U.S. 33, Willshire, died at 7:10 p.m. Sunday, November 28, 2004, at The Laurels of Shane Hill in Rockford.
She was born August 17, 1925, in Mercer County, the daughter of the late Ralph and Mary (Zizelman) Shaffer. On February 21, 1942, she married Robert E. Courtney, who preceded her in death on June 9, 1977.
Mrs. Courtney had been a shipping clerk at CTS in Berne, Ind.
Survivors include a daughter, Nancy (Roger) Harlament of Rockford; one son, Brad (Cheryl) Courtney of Willshire; a sister, Opal Dull of Celina; two grandchildren, and 10 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a daughter, Jean Elaine; one brother, John Shaffer, and a sister, Margaret McKean.
Funeral services will be conducted at 7 p.m. Thursday, December 2, at Ketcham-Ripley Funeral Home in Rockford, with Lay Pastor James J. "Pappy" Rickard officiating. Burial will be in Stringtown Cemetery at the convenience of the family.
Calling hours are 1-7 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.

ADAMS
Zelma J. Adams, 80, of Van Wert, died Sunday, November 28, 2004, at her residence.
She was born July 6, 1924, in Sandcreek, Mich., the daughter of the late Lester and Lena (Loe) Walters. On February 26, 1944, she married Glenwood Adams, who died February 16, 1999.
Mrs. Adams was a former co-owner of the Country Barn Auction Company. She was a member of Calvary Evangelical Church in Van Wert and also belonged to the Hoaglin-Jackson Sunrise Club, the Sugar & Spice HCE Club and Van Wert County Farm Bureau.
Survivors include two sons, Terry Adams of Van Wert and Philip (Jane) Adams of Holland (Ohio); five brothers, Leo (Darlene) Walters of Defiance, Harvey (Betty) Walters of Adrian Mich., Dale (Virginia) Walters of Onsted, Mich., and Wayne (Ruth) Walters and James Walters, both of Riga, Mich.; three sisters, Belva Stewart of Bradenton, Fla., Rachel (Eugene) Albright of Adrian and Janice (Victor) Hillard of Derry, N.H.; four grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a brother.
Funeral services will be conducted at 10:30 a.m. Friday, December 3, at Alspach-Gearhart Funeral Home in Van Wert. Burial will be in Ridge Cemetery in Ridge Township.
Calling hours are 2-5 and 6-8 p.m. Thursday, December 2, at the funeral home.
Memorial contributions may be made to Calvary Evangelical Church in Van Wert.

GALLOWAY
Lester A. Galloway, 99, of Hearth & Home in Van Wert, and formerly of Ohio City, died at 5:15 p.m. Thursday, November 25, 2004, at his residence.
He was born May 5, 1905, in Indiana, the son of the late Clinton Robert "Doc" and Clara B. (Larrabee) Galloway. On February 23, 1927, he married Helen M. Fry, who died January 30, 1999.
Mr. Galloway spent many happy years farming in York and Liberty townships. He was a member of Ohio City United Methodist Church, the Masons, Liberty Grange and Farm Bureau. When he was a young man, Lester was well-known in Van Wert County for his corn husking skills. He was a champion corn husker who won the county corn husking championships 8 of 11 years he competed. He was also state champion in 1930 and national champion in 1935. Lester served the community as a member of the Ohio City-Liberty Board of Education, was a Liberty Township trustee and Van Wert County commissioner, from 1965-1973. He often said he most enjoyed serving on the Van Wert County Fair Board and had served as Fair Board president. Lester had a special fondness for the Van Wert County Fair, because that is where he first met his wife, Helen. There were later married and spent what Lester often referred to as "72 wonderful years" together.
Survivors include two sons, Bob J. (Joanne) Galloway of Van Wert and Richard (Carolyn) Galloway of Greenville, Tenn.; two daughters, Phyllis Kline and Nancy (Tom) Sink, both of Van Wert; a brother, Thomas (Ruby) Galloway of Ovieda, Fla.; one sister, Pearl Dobson of Toronto, Canada; 13 grandchildren, and 25 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by three brothers, Bill Galloway, Samuel R. Galloway and Edward Galloway, and two sisters, Ruby Baxter and Katherine Ely.
Funeral services will be conducted at 10 a.m. Monday, November 29, at Cowan & Son Funeral Home in Van Wert, with the Rev. Paul W. Miller and Pastor Mike Waldron officiating. Burial will be in Woodlawn Cemetery in Ohio City.
Calling hours are 2-7 p.m. Sunday, November 28, at the funeral home.
Preferred memorials are to Van Wert Area Visiting Nurses-Hospice or Ohio City United Methodist Church.

SHEETS
Harold D. Sheets, 60, of Van Wert, died at 11:59 a.m. Saturday, November 13, 2004, at Van Wert County Hospital.
He was born January 21, 1944, in New Hampshire, Ohio, the son of the late Clayton N. and Avis L. (Jacques) Sheets. On June 19, 1966, he married Josephine Hurley, who survives at home.
Mr. Sheets worked for the former Continental Can Company for 33 years, retiring in 1999. He was currently working at the Van Wert Wal-Mart store.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by a son, David A. Sheets of Van Wert; one daughter, Kerry Sheets of Van Wert; two sisters, Esther (Robert) Hilton and Ethel Reynolds, both of Fort Wayne, Ind., and one grandchild, Joshua Joseph Mahon of Toledo.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Darrel Sheets, who died at birth; two sisters, Judy Sheets and Nancy Hilton, and a grandson, David Allen Sheets Jr.
A memorial service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, November 17, at The Christian Life Center on Jennings Road in Van Wert, with the Rev. Scott Fleming officiating.
There will be no calling hours.
Memorial contributions may be made to the family.
Arrangements were handled by Alspach-Gearhart Funeral Home in Van Wert.

OWENS
Fara L. Owens, 50, of 8783 Middle Point-Wetzel Road, Middle Point, died at 11:15 p.m. Wednesday, November 3, 2004, at her residence.
She was born June 12, 1954, in Van Wert County, the daughter of the late Ronald G. and Margaret Louise (Imler) Engel. On July 5, 1975, she married Michael D. Owens, who survives at home.
Mrs. Owens was a homemaker and a former secretary for Ohio City Church of God, where she also attended church. She was a 1972 graduate of Lincolnview High School and a 1976 graduate of Bluffton University, earning a bachelor's degree in education.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by a stepmother, Loretta (Haver) Engel of Lima; a son, Matthew (Crista) Owens of Toledo; one daughter, Amanda Owens of Defiance, and a stepbrother, Dustin (Tammie) Haver of St. John's.
Funeral services will be conducted at 10 a.m. Tuesday, November 9, at Trinity Friends Church in Van Wert, with Pastor Matt Braun and Pastor Neil Hammons officiating. Burial will be in Ridge Cemetery in Ridge Township.
Calling hours are 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Sunday and Monday, November 7-8, at Cowan & Son Funeral Home in Van Wert.
Memorial contributions may be made to Community Health Professionals-Hospice or the Children's Ministry of a church of donor's preference.

SCHWERTNER
Gertrude G. Schwertner, 94, of Delphos, died at 4:05 p.m. Tuesday, November 16, 2004, at Sarah Jane Living Center in Delphos.
She was born October 20, 1910, in Rushmore, the daughter of the late Joseph and Dorathea (Pahl) Bauman. She first married Clarence Lause, who died in 1946, and then married Lawrence Schwertner, who died in 1979.
Mrs. Schwertner was a homemaker, a member of St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church in Delphos, Catholic Ladies of Columbia, Delphos Eagles and Delphos American Legion Auxiliary. She loved to play cards and loved spending time with her great-grandchildren.
Survivors include a daughter, Dorothy Ann (Paul) Metzger of Delphos; three sisters, Rose Schwegler of Boca Raton, Fla., Alvera (Dale) Sakemiller of Rimer and Vicki Allen of Fort Wayne, Ind.; one brother, Al Bauman of Fort Wayne; three grandchildren, Sharon (Tony) Closson, Tim Metzger and Annette Youngpeter; eight great-grandchildren and a great-great-grandchild.
She was preceded in death by two brothers, Gene Bauman and Elmer Bauman, and two sisters, Marcella Bauman and Hilda Scherman.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be conducted at 11 a.m. Friday, November 19, at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church, with Father Thomas Gorman officiating. Burial will be in St. John's Catholic Cemetery in Delphos.
Calling hours are 2-8 p.m. Thursday, November 18, at Harter & Schier Funeral Home in Delphos, where a parish wake service will be held at 7:30 that evening.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Delphos St. John's Teacher Endowment Fund.

TEMAN
Bernard B. Teman, 86, of Delphos, died at 9:52 a.m. Saturday, November 6, 2004, at St. Rita's Medical Center in Lima.
He was born March 6, 1918, the son of the late Benjamin G. and Mary E. (Goings) Teman. On July 7, 1936, he married Velma Diltz, who died January 17, 2000.
Mr. Teman was retired from Clark Equipment. He was a member of Delphos Eagles Aerie 471, Delphos Coonhunters and Delphos Sportsmen's Club and was an avid outdoorsman, loving to hunt, fish and, most of all, trap. But his true love was all of his grandchildren. He had served in the U.S. Navy as a Seabee (engineer).
Survivors include a daughter, LaDonna (Tom) Warnement of Fort Jennings; four sons, Richard (Glenda) Teman of Michigan and Larry (Mary) Teman, Rodney (Brenda) Teman and Corroll (Lisa) Teman, all of Delphos; one sister, Virginia McKee of Delphos; two brothers, William (Eileen) Teman and Winfred (Eugenia) Teman, both of Delphos; 16 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren, and eight great-great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by two brothers, Cleo and Eugene Teman, and a sister, Ruth M. Ulm.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Tuesday, November 9, at Harter & Schier Memorial Chapel in Delphos, the Rev. David Howell officiating. Burial will be in Walnut Grove Cemetery, with military graveside rites by the Delphos Veterans Council.
Calling hours are 5-8 p.m. Sunday, November 7, and 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Monday, November 8, at the funeral home.
Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society.
