WILKIN
John W. Wilkin, 79, of 3978 Middle Point-Wetzel Road, Middle Point, died at 10:06 p.m. Tuesday, April 15, 2003, at Lutheran Hospital of Indiana in Fort Wayne, Ind.
He was born August 9, 1923, in York Township, Van Wert County, the son of the late William Henry and Ernestine "Tena" (BeVard) Wilkin. On June 6, 1942, he married Ruth J. Swartz, who survives.
Mr. Wilkin was employed for 33 years at the General Motors Central Foundry in Defiance, retiring in 1981. He then operated a grocery store with his wife in Wetzel for 15 years and owned and trained race horses for 40 years. He was associated with Zion Christian Union Church and was a 1941 graduate of York High School. He belonged to United Auto Workers Local 211 in Defiance, was a member of the Van Wert County Harness Association, United States Trotting Association, Ohio Harness Horsemen Association and the Indiana Standard Breed Association.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by three sons, John Wayne "Butch" (Trudy) Wilkin of Grover Hill, Larry G. (Carol) Wilkin of Van Wert and Roger Lynn Wilkin of Middle Point. two daughters, Lyla Kay (James) Caris and Joyce A. (Ron) Welk, both of Paulding; a sister, Anna E. Buettner of Van Wert; 13 grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Charles Sylvester Wilkin, and one sister, Ruby G. Rager.
Funeral service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday at Cowan & Son Funeral Home, the Rev. Joseph D. Harr officiating. Burial will be in King Cemetery in Washington Township.
Calling hours are 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
Memorial contributions may be made on behalf of Mr. Wilkin to the American Diabetes Association.

SCARBROUGH
Fay P. Scarbrough, 100, of Grover Hill, died at 11:10 p.m. Wednesday, April 16, 2003, at Vancrest Health Care Center in Van Wert.
He was born December 11, 1902, in North Star, Mich., the son of the late Ed and Myrtle (Burkett) Scarbrough. On October 2, 1924, in Hillsdale, Mich., he married Gladys L. Wistner, who died December 1, 1995.
Mr. Scarbrough was a farmer and also worked in several factories and for the Ohio Department of Transportation. He was a member of the United Methodist Church, was a sports enthusiast, and avid ballplayer and loved bowling and horse racing.
Survivors include four sons, Gene (Nova) Scarbrough, Jerry (Linda) Scarbrough, John Scarbrough and Gail (Krista) Scarbrough, all of Grover Hill; three daughters, Pat (Dan) Ward of Midland, Mich., Carol Bryant of Lima and Marge (Don) Stahl of Grover Hill; 25 grandchildren; 41 great-grandchildren, and 24 great-great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by five brothers, Lawrence, Rex, Ralph, John D. and Glenn Scarbrough; a grandchild, and a great-grandchild.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday at Alspach-Gearhart Funeral Home in Van Wert, the Rev. Paul Miller officiating. Burial will be in Middle Creek Cemetery in Grover Hill.
Calling hours are 4-8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
Memorial contributions may be made on behalf of Mr. Scarbrough to the Grover Hill EMS squad.

PRIDDY
Sylvia C. Priddy, 96, of 9161 Pancake Road, Convoy, died at 1:45 p.m. Friday, April 18, 2003, at Van Wert Manor nursing home.
She was born November 7, 1906, in Baldwin, Mich., the daughter of the late Alexancer and Mary (Stallbaum) Teboe. In 1936, she married Norman Wellington Priddy, who died May 23, 1975.
Mrs. Priddy was a homemaker.
Survivors include two sons, Max (Carolyn) Priddy of rural Ohio City and Gary Dean (Theresa) Priddy of Winter Haven, Fla.; one daughter, Billie Lou (William) Gipson of Elkhart, Ind.; four grandchildren; one stepgranddaughter, and seven great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by four brothers, Pharis, Vern, Clifford and Millard Teboe; two sisters, Marie Bohn and Mildred Ellen Copper; a grandson, Jeremy S. Priddy, and two stepgrandchildren, Barry McHugh and Mary McHugh.
Graveside funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday at Woodlawn Cemetery in Ohio City, the Rev. Chuck Glover of Kingsley United Methodist Church officiating.
There will be no calling hours.
Memorial contributions may be made on behalf of Mrs. Priddy to a charity of donor's choice.

GOINGS
Donald L. Goings, 54, of 9600 Dixon-Cavett Road, died at 9:30 p.m. Saturday, April 19, 2003, at Parkview Memorial Hospital in Fort Wayne, Ind.
He was born October 27, 1948, in Paulding County, the son of Charles A. Goings of Van Wert and the late Geraldine (Kilgore) Goings. On April 20, 1968, he married Marcia L. Kreischer, who survives.
Mr. Goings was a lifetime farmer and had also worked at Aeroquip Corporation in Van Wert for 20 years. He was a lifetime member of North Union United Methodist Church and was a member of the Scott Lions Club.
In addition to his father and wife, he is survived by a son, Brandon Goings of Mentor; three daughters, Holly Goings of Fort Wayne, Ind., and Camille Goings and Tara Goings, both of Convoy; one brother, Gene (Lois) Goings of Van Wert, and four grandchildren, Alexis Goings, Dylan Miller, Shayne Goings and Hope Goings.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Wednesday at North Union United Methodist Church, the Rev. James Howell officiating. Burial will be in Convoy IOOF Cemetery.
Calling hours are 2-8 p.m. Tuesday at Alspach-Gearhart Funeral Home in Van Wert, and an hour prior to services Wednesday at the church.
Memorial contributions may be made on behalf of Mr. Goings to the church or to Convoy Fire and EMS departments.

HYMAN
Mary Florene Hyman, 94, of Lincolnway Nursing Home near Middle Point, died at 8:40 p.m. Saturday, April 19, 2003, at her residence.
She was born March 19, 1909, in Van Wert County, the daughter of the late Henry P. and Ollie May (Hattery) Hyman. She never married.
Miss Hyman retired in 1968 as a supervisor for the Visiting Nurses Services for Indiana. She also served 17 years as a nurse in the U.S. Army, ending as a major and serving in World War II and the Korean Conflict. She received many medals, including the Bronze Star service medal. She was a member of the Disabled American Veterans and belonged to the National Retired Officers Association, Indiana State Nursing Officers Association, American Nursing Association and Parkview Alumni Association. She was a charter member of Good Shepherd Methodist Church in Fort Wayne, Ind.
Survivors include a sister, Ardeth Foley of Atlanta, Ga.
She was preceded in death by four brothers, Russell, Wilbur, Joseph and Kenneth Hyman, and two sisters, Berdene Ray and Marcile Cashel.
Funeral services will be conducted at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Alspach-Gearhart Funeral Home in Van Wert, the Rev. Paul Miller officiating. Burial will be in Woodland Cemetery in Van Wert, where military rites will be performed by combined units from American Legion Post 178 and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 5803, both in Van Wert.
Calling hours are from 4-8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
Memorial contributions may be made on behalf of Miss Hyman to the Military Organization of Ohio Soldiers Children Relief Fund.

KLUTKA
Nicholas Klutka, 82, of 1050 Rosemont Drive, died at 3:22 p.m. Wednesday, April 2, 2003, at Van Wert County Hospital.
He was born January 21, 1921, in New Brighton, Pa., the son of the late Nicholas S. and Rose (Svetz) Klutka. One March 3, 1947, he married Hannah Clem, who survives.
Mr. Klutka was a longtime teacher in the Van Wert City Schools and also taught at Thomas Edison School. He retired in 1998. He was a member of First Presbyterian Church in Van Wert. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army Air Corps in World War II and was a life member of both American Legion Post 178 in Van Wert and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 5803 in Van Wert. He also belonged to Elks Lodge 1197 in Van Wert. He played football for East Florida State College and also played for the 2nd Air Force Super Bombers football team and the Buffalo Bisons of the Professional Football League.
Survivors include two sons, Max Klutka of Ontario, Canada, and Mike (Michelle) Klutka of Van Wert; a daughter, Kerry Klutka of Santa Fe, N.M.; one brother, Frank Klutka of New Brighton, Pa.; two sisters, Millie Chieco of Florida and Helen Capo of Los Angeles, Calif., and five grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Andy Klutka.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Sunday at First Presbyterian Church in Van Wert, the Rev. Dr. Edward Jillson officiating. Burial will be in Bunners Ridge Cemetery in Fairmont, W.Va.
Visitation is from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Saturday at Alspach-Gearhart Funeral Home in Van Wert.
Memorial contributions may be made on behalf of Mr. Klutka to the church.

BENSCHNEIDER
Lucile Benschneider, 88, of Payne, died at 11:20 a.m. Wednesday, April 3, 2003, at Dallas Lamb Foundation Home in Payne.
She was born Mary 7, 1914, in Antwerp, the daughter of the late Jerry and Minnie (Pugh) Overmyer. On September 22, 1932, she married Ervin Benschneider, who died in 1992.
Mrs. Benschneider was a homemaker and a member of St. James Lutheran Church in Payne. She also belonged to the Hesperian Chapter 281, Order of Eastern Star in Payne and the Payne Grange.
Survivors include a son, Don Benschneider of Payne, one brother, Harold "Bud" Overmyer of Hicksville; six grandchildren, and nine great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a son, Richard Benschneider, who died in 1997.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Tuesday at St. James Lutheran Church in Payne, the Rev. Joseph Allen officiating. Burial will be in Wiltsie Cemetery in Payne.
Visitation will be after 4 p.m. Monday at Slade Funeral Home in Payne, where an Eastern Star service will be conducted at 8:30 p.m. that day.
Memorial contributions may be made on behalf of Mrs. Benschneider to the church.
