CLAYPOOL
Gerald "Bud" Claypool, 81, of Delphos, died at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday, January 22, 2003, at his residence.
He was born August 1, 1921, in Paulding County, the son of the late Ernest and Edith (Dotson) Claypool. On June 7, 1940, he married AnnaBelle Diltz, who survives in Delphos. They were married for 62 years.
Mr. Claypool was retired from Fruehoff Trailer Corporation. He was a member of Delphos Wesleyan Church, Fraternal Order of Eagles Aerie 471 and a member of the Fathers Club of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 3035. He was a CBer and loved fishing and hunting. He owned and drove sprint cars and drove semi-trailer trucks for many years.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by a son, Dennis (Dianne) Claypool of Delphos; three daughters, AlVera Paxson of Scottsdale, Ariz., Geralene (Dick) Thitoff of Delphos and Joyce (Mark) Miller of Van Wert; three sisters, Wanda (Bill) Boutwell of Beaverdam, Thelma (Cletus) Brenneman of Wapakoneta and Judy (Skip) Lolmaugh of Defiance; a stepmother, Margaret Slusser of Delphos; 14 grandchildren; 30 great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild.
He was preceded in death by two brothers, Harold and Robert Claypool, and a sister, Rosemary Fleischmann.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday at Harter & Son Memorial Chapel in Delphos, the Rev. Terry Martin and Rev. Wayne Prater officiating. Burial will be in Walnut Grove Cemetery.
Calling hours are 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
Memorial contributions may be made to Delphos Wesleyan Church or St. Rita's Hospice.

McHUGH
Barry Allen McHugh, 32, of 11943 Ohio 49, Ohio City, died at 6:45 a.m. Friday, January 24, 2003, at his residence of injuries sustained in a house fire.
He was born August 2, 1970, in Van Wert, the son of Richard A. McHugh of Van Wert, and Carolyn Sue (Pierce) McHugh Priddy at home.
Mr. McHugh had worked at Pick 'N Save supermarket in Van Wert. He was a 1989 graduate of Crestview High School.
In addition to his parents, he is survived by a stepfather, Max L. Priddy at home; a stepmother, Marilyn R. McHugh of Van Wert; a maternal grandfather, Edwin J. Pierce of rural Convoy; a paternal grandmother, Luella (Woods) McHugh of Ohio City; one sister, Diana (Darrell E.) Swander of Ohio City, and five nieces and nephews, Donald Swander, Stephanie Swander and Michelle Swander, all of Ohio City, and Travis (Meghan) Swander and B.J. Swander, both of Convoy.
He was preceded in death by a sister, Mary McHugh.
Funeral services will be conducted at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Calvary Evangelical Church in Van Wert, the Rev. Chuck Glover of Kingsley United Methodist Church officiating. Burial will be in Woodlawn Cemetery in Ohio City.
Calling hours are 1-9 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Wren, Ohio City, Convoy or Willshire fire departments.

McHUGH
Mary Ann McHugh, 36, of 11943 Ohio 49, Ohio City, died at 6:45 a.m. Friday, January 24, 2003, at her residence from injuries sustained in a house fire.
She was born September 2, 1966, in Van Wert, the daughter of Richard A. McHugh of Van Wert and Carolyn (Pierce) McHugh Priddy at home.
Miss McHugh was employed at CME Mitsuba Automotive in Monroeville, Ind., and had worked at Orchard Tree restaurant in Van Wert for 15 years. She was a 1985 graduate of Ohio City-Liberty High School.
In addition to her parents, she is survived by a stepfather, Max L. Priddy at home; a stepmother, Marilyn R. McHugh of Van Wert; a maternal grandfather, Edwin J. Pierce of rural Convoy; a paternal grandmother, Luella (Woods) McHugh of Ohio City; one sister, Diana (Darrell E.) Swander of Ohio City, and five nieces and nephews, Donald Swander, Stephanie Swander and Michelle Swander, all of Ohio City, and Travis (Meghan) Swander and B.J. Swander, both of Convoy.
She was preceded in death by a brother, Barry McHugh
Funeral services will be conducted at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Calvary Evangelical Church, the Rev. Chuck Glover of Kingsley United Methodist Church officiating. Burial will be in Woodlawn Cemetery in Ohio City.
Calling hours are 1-9 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.

PHILLIPS
Robert L. Phillips, 58, of 201 Westfield Drive, Middle Point, died at 8:44 p.m. Saturday, January 25, 2003, at Lutheran Hospital in Fort Wayne, Ind.
He was born March 30, 1944, in Yellow Mountain, Ky., the son of the late Charles and Parrot (Sparkman) Phillips. On January 17, 1966, in Lima, he married Janet K. Stant, who survives at home.
Mr. Phillips was a retired automotive mechanic.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by two sons, Jason "Jake" (Hollie) Phillips of Ohio City and Anthony (Vonda) Phillips of Hindman, Ky.; two daughters, Sandra (Keith) Hill of Middle Point and Phyllis (Gary) Hoskins of Pineville, Ky.; one brother, Marion Sawyer of Lima; two sisters, Bonnie Smith of Decoy, Ky., and Dorothy Oliver of Sarasota, Fla., and 12 grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a son, James Phillips; six brothers, William Abe, Truman, Lee, Edward, Earl and Owen Phillips; five sisters, Hattie Hamilton, Bertha Hatfield, Betty Lee Chaffins, Genadith Watkins and Emmajean Phillips, and one grandchild.
Funeral services will be conducted at 7 p.m. Wednesday at Alspach-Gearhart Funeral Home in Van Wert, the Rev. Neil Hammons officiating. A private burial service will be held at a later date.
Calling hours are 4-7 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
Memorial contributions may be made to the family.

TAYLOR
Donald E. "Don" Taylor, 77, of 2 Willow Lane, died at 4:50 a.m. Sunday, January 26, 2003, at Parkview Hospital in Fort Wayne, Ind.,
He was born October 25, 1925, in Middle Point, the son of the late James and Esther (Knittle) Taylor. On November 14, 1947, he married Carol A. Spieth, who survives at home.
Mr. Taylor was owner and operator of Taylor Auto Sales in Van Wert, a business he started in 1946. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy, serving in Pearl Harbor, Hawaii, from 1942-46, and had been a member of the U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary. He also belonged to Isaac Van Wert Post 178, American Legion, and Robert G. Longwell Post 5803, Veterans of Foreign Wars, and was a member of Elks Lodge 1197 in Van Wert. He was a Friend of Starr Commonwealth School, a Paul Harris fellow of Rotary International and a member of the Independent Auto Dealers Association. He was named a grand marshal for the Peony Festival Grand Parade and had been a longtime escort of Peony queens and their courts for all festival functions.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by a son, Gary Lee of Van Wert; two daughters, Linda (Robert) Schick and Vickie (Bob) Foster, both of Van Wert; one brother, Marcus (Bonnie) Taylor of Middle Point; four grandchildren, Shad Foster, Brad Foster, Kelli Chiles and Greg Karnes, and a great-granddaughter, Olivia Chiles.
He was preceded in death by two brothers, Eugene and Max Taylor.
Funeral services will be conducted at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Alspach-Gearhart Funeral Home in Van Wert, the Rev. Dr. James C. Dunaway officiating. Burial will be in Woodland Cemetery in Van Wert, with graveside military services conducted by the combined honors unit of American Legion Post 178 and VFW Post 5803.
Calling hours are 2-8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
Memorial contributions may be made to Starr Commonwealth School or Van Wert Rotary Club.

WAYMIRE
Grace B. Waymire, 93, of 132 E. Second St., died at 4:30 p.m. Sunday, January 26, 2003, at Van Wert Manor nursing home.
She was born June 21, 1909, in Van Wert County, the daughter of the late Charles and Ethel (Carey) Allison. On May 16, 1931, in Van Wert, she married Paul D. Waymire, who died August 31, 1965.
Mrs. Waymire formerly worked at the G.C. Murphy 5&10 Store and at Butler's Bakery, both in Van Wert. She was a member of St. Mark's Lutheran Church in Van Wert. She was a life member of the United Lutheran Church Women, a member and former board member of the Van Wert County YWCA and was a former Girl Scout leader. She also was a member of American Legion Post 178 Auxiliary, a member of the Van Wert County Republican Women's Club and the Women's International Bowling Congress. She also served on the Van Wert Board of Elections for 50 years.
Survivors include three daughters, Marcia (Lewis) Elston of Middle Point, Nancy (Larry) Coplin of Convoy and Karen (John) Linton of Van Wert; a brother, Barney Allison of Ocala, Fla.; a brother-in-law, Warren Willis of Chicago, Ill.; 17 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a son, John Waymire; six brothers, and three sisters.
Funeral services will be conducted at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at St. Mark's Lutheran Church, the Rev. Joe Wilck officiating. Burial will be in Woodland Cemetery.
Calling hours are 2-8 p.m. Wednesday at Alspach-Gearhart Funeral Home in Van Wert, and an hour prior to services Thursday at the church.
Memorial contributions may be made to the church or the Van Wert County Unit of the American Cancer Society.

THATCHER
Harriet I. Thatcher, 83, of rural Middle Point, died at 8:33 p.m. Monday, January 27, 2003, at Lincolnway Nursing Home in Ridge Township.
She was born July 27, 1919, in Van Wert County, the daughter of the late Glen E. and Beryl (Martin) Hanby. On November 10, 1937, she married Floyd E. Thatcher, who died March 28, 1989.
Mrs. Thatcher was a homemaker and a member of the former Grace United Methodist Church. She was a lifetime resident of Van Wert County.
Survivors include two sons, Danny L. (Phyllis) Thatcher and Clair O. (Diane) Thatcher, both of Middle Point; four grandchildren, Melanie Miller, Kevin Thatcher, Craig Thatcher and Christie Wendel, and 13 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a daughter, Barbara Thatcher; one sister, Margaret Morris, and a granddaughter, Carla Kay Thatcher.
Funeral services will be conducted at 10:30 a.m. Friday at Alspach-Gearhart Funeral Home in Van Wert, the Rev. Paul Miller officiating. Burial will be in Ridge Cemetery in Ridge Township.
Calling hours are 4-8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
Memorial contributions may be made to Middle Point United Methodist Church, Lincolnway Nursing Home Activities Fund or the Delphos Hospice Program.
