WOOSTER -- Marjorie A. Hoover, 87, 1025 Mayflower Drive, died Monday morning, March 15, 1999, at Wooster Community Hospital. Services will be Friday at 11 a.m. at McIntire, Davis & Greene Funeral Home in Wooster, with the Rev. J. William Lofgren officiating. Burial will be at Oak Grove Cemetery. There will be no calling hours. Those who wish may make contributions to the United Methodist Church of Wooster, 243 N. Market St., Wooster; to the Salvation Army, Wooster Corps, 437 S. Market St., Wooster; or to Hospice of Wayne County, 2525-A Back Orrville Road, Wooster 44691. She was born Feb. 5, 1912 in Holmes County to George Clifford and Mary Virginia (Graham) Finley and married H. Shannon Hoover on June 1, 1940. He survives. Surviving in addition to her husband, are daughters, Mrs. Steven (Marcia) Silverman of Worcester, Mass., and Mary Faith Hoover of Wooster; and grandchildren, Jonathan and Stephanie Silverman.

Leora Jolliff
SHARPES, Fla. -- Leora M. Jolliff, 103, formerly of Sharpes, Fla., and Wooster, died Sunday, March 14, 1999, at Haborside Health Care Center in Rockledge, Fla. Graveside services will be Thursday at 10 a.m. at Wooster Cemetery, with the Rev. David Stout officiating. Burial will be at Wooster Cemetery. Friends may call Wednesday from 7-9 p.m. at McIntire, Davis & Greene Funeral Home in Wooster. She was born Dec. 1, 1895 in Shreve to William and Mary (Cowell) Priest and married Walter Jolliff. He died in 1964. Surviving are a daughter, Mary Richey Jones of Sharpes, Fla.; three grandchildren; and a great-grandchild.

Mary Switzer
WOOSTER -- Mary L. Switzer, 80, 546 N. Buckeye St., died Monday, March 15, 1999, at Horn Nursing Home. Services will be Thursday at 1:30 p.m. at McIntire, Davis & Greene Funeral Home in Wooster, with the Revs. Dale Sanford and J. William Lofgren officiating. Burial will be at Wooster Cemetery. Surviving are sisters, Florence Switzer, with whom she had made her home and Mrs. Oren (Dorothy) Seidel of East Palestine, Ohio.

Erma Mizer
NEWARK -- Erma L. Mizer, 83, died Sunday, March 14, 1999, at Sharon Brook in Newark. She was formerly of Orrville. Services will be Friday at 1 p.m. at Roberts Funeral Home, Sherwood Chapel, with the Revs. Mark Edge and Randall L. Gehres officiating. Friends may call two hours prior to the services. Memorial contributions may be made to Christ United Church of Christ, 301 N. Main St., Orrville 44667; or to Hospice of Wayne County, 2525-A Back Orrville Road, Wooster 44691. She was born Oct. 23, 1915 in Sugarcreek, to Walter and Hulda (Sauser) Penrod and married Frank Mizer. He died Feb. 24, 1984. Surviving are children and their spouses, Dr. Ronald Mizer and Linda, of Urbana and Dixie L. and Jim Merrill of Newark; grandchildren and their spouses, Derek Mizer, Audrey Mizer, Mathew and Debbie Merrill, Andrew and Stacey Isenhour and Mary and Mark Edge; great-grandsons, James Merrill and Schuler Edge; and sisters, Lillian Class of Canton and Murna Finzer of Sugarcreek.

Henry Long
WOOSTER -- Henry E. Long, 64, 136 Palmer St., died Tuesday morning, March 16, 1999, after a long illness. Memorial services will be Friday at 1 p.m. at Hillcrest Memorial Gardens in Wadsworth, where the Wadsworth Post of the American Legion will conduct military rites. The Rev. Claude L. McComas will officiate. The body has been cremated. There will be no calling hours. Custer Funeral Home, Wooster, is handling arrangements. He was born Oct. 8, 1934 in Wayne County to Peter E. and Dortha (Howell) Long and married G. Irene Moser on June 12, 1953 in Albion, Ind. She survives. Surviving in addition to his wife are children, Steven E. Long, Mrs. William W. (Terrie I.) Priest and Mrs. Raymond L. (Pamela S.) Barker, all of Wooster; five grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; brothers and sisters-in-law, Don and Faye Long and Jerry and Norma Long, all of Wadsworth; and sisters, Mrs. Robert (Lavon) Mitchell, Mrs. Ralph (Karen) Smith and Mrs. Roy (Marilyn) Barker, all of Rittman, Mrs. Raymond (Glenda) Bauders of Florida, and Mrs. Melvin (Doris) Butler of North Carolina.

John McKinley
ASHLAND -- John C. McKinley, 56, 323 E. Main St., died Monday, March 15, 1999, at Cleveland Clinic, from heart and lung complications. He was the brother of Jim McKinley of Jeromesville. Services will be Saturday at 10 a.m. at Fickes Funeral Home in Jeromesville, with the Rev. Budd Sprague officiating. Burial will be at Jeromesville Cemetery. Friends may call Friday from 7-9 p.m. at the funeral home. He was born July 16, 1942 in Ashland County to Earl W. and Anna Mae (Newmyer) McKinley and married Mary Strong on June 6, 1964. She survives. Surviving in addition to his brother and wife are sons, Tom McKinley of Doylestown, Pa., and Tim McKinley of Ashland; and his mother of Ashland.

H. Jay Shearer
BUTLER, Pa. -- H. Jay Shearer, 81, 115 Greenhill Drive, Butler, Pa., formerly of Wayne County, died Sunday, March 14, 1999, at Butler Memorial Hospital. Services will be Friday at 2 p.m. at Fickes Funeral Home in Jeromesville, with Warren Ihlenfeld officiating. Burial will be at Fairview Cemetery, Wayne County. Friends may call Thursday from 7-9 p.m. at the funeral home. He was born Sept. 28, 1917 in Ashland County to Harmon and Elnora (Aber) Shearer and married Cotta Heffelfinger on Dec. 28, 1940. She survives. Surviving in addition to his wife are a daughter, Barbara Shearer of Butler, Pa.; and relatives in the Wayne County area.

Maxine Schaub
LOUDONVILLE -- Maxine Schaub, 73, 3404 Ohio 3, died Monday, March 15, 1999, at her home. Eastern Star services will be held Saturday at 2 p.m. at Byerly-Lindsey Funeral Home in Loudonville, with the funeral services to follow. The Rev. Robert Hauser will officiate. Burial will be at Wesley Chapel Cemetery, Knox County. Friends may call one hour prior to the services at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to American Cancer Society. She was born March 25, 1925 in Cambridge to Kencil and Margaret (Byer) Myer and married Henry Schaub. He died in 1979. Surviving are children and their spouses, Henry and Linda Schaub of Bellville and Deborah and David Baxter of Grafton; five grandchildren; two step-grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and brothers, Kenneth Myer of Sarasota, Fla., and William Myer of Overland Park, Kan.

HOLMESVILLE -- Dorothy E. Swinehart, 82, of Holmesville, died Tuesday morning, March 16, 1999, at Joel Pomerene Memorial Hospital in Millersburg, after an extended illness. Services will be Friday at 1 p.m. at Alexander Funeral Home, Millersburg, with the Rev. Don Campbell officiating. Burial will be at Prairie Township Cemetery. Friends may call Thursday from 7-9 p.m. at the funeral home. The family suggests contributions be made to Holmesville Church of Christ, P.O. Box 146, Holmesville 44633. She was born Aug. 2, 1916 in Holmes County to McKincel and Mae (Hiles) Tharp and married Lawrence Swinehart on Aug. 23, 1934. He died Oct. 8, 1979. Surviving are children, Margaret Marks of Millersburg, Martha Baughman and Leroy Swinehart and his wife, Anna, all of Shreve, Mrs. Owen (Betty) Beachy of Clark, Mrs. Danny (Edith) Arnold and Mrs. Ronald (Sandra) Scherer, both of Holmesville, Larry Swinehart and his wife, Shirley, of Cabot, Ark., Louis Swinehart of the home and Gary Swinehart and his wife, Sue, of Fredericksburg; 26 grandchildren; 44 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and a sister, Mrs. Tom (Bettye) Franks of Loudonville.

WOOSTER -- Orin E. Troyer, 77, 2834 N. Apple Creek Road, died Monday night, March 15, 1999, at his residence after a long illness. Services will be Friday at 11 a.m. at First Baptist Church in Rittman, with the Rev. Bret Deffenbaugh officiating. Burial will be at Oak Grove Mennonite Church Cemetery near Smithville. Friends may call Thursday from 1-3 and 7-9 p.m. at Auble Funeral Home in Orrville. He was born May 13, 1921 in Fredericksburg to Eli J. and Fannie (Boley) Troyer and married Elizabeth Ann Gingerich on Nov. 9, 1944 in Durham, N.C. She died July 23, 1983. On Sept. 21, 1985, he married Wanda (Wilson) Griffin. She survives. Surviving in addition to his wife are a daughter, Teresa Troyer of Blounts Creek, N.C., and a daughter and son-in-law, Anita and Jorge Borbon of Grecia, Costa Rica; stepdaughters and sons-in-law, Cathy and Douglas Jackson of Rittman and Debra and Clint See of Orrville; 13 grandchildren; a brother, Otis Troyer of Massillon, brothers and sisters-in-law, Marvin and Jewell Troyer of Dalton and Harold and Esther Troyer of Shreve; and sisters and brothers-in-law, Verba and Mose Yoder of Wooster, Nettie Yoder of Kendallville, Ind., and Edith and Aden Gingerich of Farmington, N.M.

Bonnie Bretz
FREDERICKSBURG -- Bonnie Jean Bretz, 53, of Fredericksburg died Monday, March 15, 1999, at Aultman Hospital in Canton, surrounded by her family and friends. Services will be Friday at 1:30 p.m. at Fredericksburg Church of Christ, with the Rev. Jeff Graebing officiating. Burial will be at St. John's Cemetery near McZena in Ashland County. Betty Miller
SUGARCREEK -- Betty Mae Miller, 46, 1505 Pleasant Valley Road, died Tuesday, March 16, 1999, at her residence, after an 18-month illness. Services will be Friday at 9 a.m. at the residence, with Bishop Syl Beachy officiating. Burial will be at Schlabach Cemetery, Clark Township, Holmes County. Friends may call anytime at the residence. Arrangements are being handled by Butler-Varns Funeral Home in Sugarcreek. She was born Sept. 2, 1952 in Tuscarawas County to Mose L. and Mary Ann (Yoder) Troyer and married Eli J. Miller on March 27, 1975. He survives. Surviving in addition to her husband are children, Raymond E. and Reuben E. Miller, both of the home, Mrs. Adam (Rebecca) Yoder and Mrs. Delbert (Ruth) Hershberger, both of Sugarcreek; a grandson; her parents of Sugarcreek; and brothers, Mose Troyer Jr., Raymond M., Mark M. and Wayne M. Troyer, all of Sugarcreek and Daniel M. Troyer of Dover.

Ida Mantz
OXFORD, Wis. -- Ida Genevieve Mantz, 96, of Oxford, Wis., formerly of Lodi, died Thursday, March 11, 1999, in Mission Hills, Calif. Services will be Monday at 1 p.m. at Parker & Son Funeral Home, 210 Medina St, Lodi, with the Rev. Robert Holmes of Pleasant Home, officiating. Burial will be at East Homer Cemetery. Friends may call Sunday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at the funeral home. She was born Dec. 4, 1902 in Brunswick to Lyman and Catherine (Ritz) Chidsey and married Edwin L. Mantz on May 9, 1923. He died previously. Surviving are a daughter, Natalie Zelenka and her husband, Bill, of Granada Hills, Calif., and a son-in-law, Dr. J.A. Hines and his wife, Pam, of Oxford, Wis.; seven grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and a brother, Lyman Chidsey and his wife, Alice, of Medina.

Robert Mallery
RITTMAN -- Robert L. Mallery, 89, of Rittman, died Wednesday, March 17, 1999, at the Apostolic Christian Home. Services will be Saturday at 11 a.m. at Milton Presbyterian Church, with the Rev. James E. Watt officiating. Burial will be at Rittman Cemetery. Friends may call one hour prior to the services at the church. Arrangements are being handled by Gillman Funeral Home in Rittman. (Fulton) Mallery and was married to Carrie Mallery. She died Feb. 10, 1992. Surviving are children and their spouses, Robert N. and Charlotte Mallery of Palmetto, Fla., Rita and Leonard Amstutz and Janice and Calvin Wilson, all of Orrville and Sandra and Wes Huff of Bradenton, Fla.; 14 grandchildren; and 19 great-grandchildren.

Thomas Coleman
SHREVE -- Thomas J. Coleman, 75, 9927 Schwartzwalder Road, died Tuesday, March 16, 1999, at Doctors Hospital in Massillon. Services will be Saturday at 11 a.m. at St. John's Lutheran Church in McZena, with the Rev. Craig Edwards officiating. Burial will be at Fairview Cemetery, Shreve. He was born Sept. 24, 1923 in Akron to William and Novello (Edwards) Coleman and married Kathryn E. Grimes on Jan. 8, 1954. She died May 21, 1995. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Saturday at 10 a.m. at St. Mary Catholic Church. Burial will be at St. Mary Cemetery. Box 267, Wooster 44691. He was born May 28, 1917 in Wooster to Bruno and Santa (Collian) Scale Sr. and was married to Anna Mae (Capri) Scale for 52 years. She survives. Surviving in addition to his wife are sons and their wives, Thomas R. and Pam Scale and Robert A. and Connie Scale, all of Wooster; grandchildren, Andy, Brian and Mike Scale; brothers, Bruno Scale Jr., Joseph and Jim Scale, all of Wooster; and sisters, Mary Snyder of Wooster and Carmilla Sullivan of Virginia.

WADSWORTH -- Beatrice L. Halterman, 78, of Wadsworth, died Tuesday, March 16, 1999, at the home of her daughter in Cambridge. Services will be Saturday at 11 a.m. at Jerusalem Lutheran Church, with the Rev. Gerald L. Keller officiating. Burial will be at Woodlawn Cemetery. Services will be Saturday at 2 p.m. at Alexander Funeral Home, Millersburg, with the Rev. Don Campbell officiating. Burial will be at Prairie Township Cemetery. Friends may call tonight (Friday) from 5-8 at the funeral home. She was born Nov. 3, 1925 in Holmes County to Frank and Laura (Gallion) Pyers and married Alvin Crider on Dec. 19, 1946. He died March 14, 1970. Surviving are children, Larry Crider of Smithville, Lee Crider of Holmesville and Judy Pinnick of Apple Creek; grandchildren, Billie Wengerd, Angie Hoffer, Brandi, Brian and Travis Crider and Jeff Pinnick; sisters, Pearl Stuber and Bettye Kaser, both of Millersburg and Dora Frase of Dalton; and a brother, Ronnie Pyers of Killbuck.

ASHLAND -- Pearl B. Lantz, 98, of Ashland, formerly of West Salem, died Thursday, March 18, 1999, at Heartland Home in Ashland. Services will be Monday at 11 a.m. at Poling & St. Clair Funeral Home in Buckhannon, W.Va., where friends may call Sunday from 7-9 p.m. Burial will be at Heavener Cemetery, Buckhannon, W.Va. Local arrangements are being handled by Matteson Funeral Home in West Salem. She was born Sept. 8, 1900 in Buckhannon, W.Va., to Charles and Catherine (Wilmoth) Heatherly and married Luther Lantz. He died in 1963. Surviving are a foster daughter, Peggy Sponaugle of Rome, N.Y.; four grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; seven great-great-grandchildren; and a brother, Omar Heatherly of Buckhannon, W.Va.
