James Dials
LAKELAND, Fla. -- James Dials, 84, of Lakeland, Fla., formerly of Orrville, died Friday, Sept. 28, 2001, at Tandem Healthcare, from heart failure.
Services will be Monday at 2 p.m. at Lakeland Funeral Home Chapel, 2125 S. Bartow Highway, Lakeland, Fla., where friends may call tonight (Sunday) from 6-8.
He was born July 17, 1917, in Ironton.
Surviving are his wife, Opal M. Dials; children Linda Bixler, Penney Bixler and Larry and Dennis Dials, all of Lakeland, Fla.; six grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and a brother, Joseph Dials, of Haines City, Fla.

Clarence Owens
LOUDONVILLE -- Clarence L. Owens, 88, 129 N. Wood St., died Friday morning, Sept. 28, 2001, at Colonial Manor Health Care Center in Loudonville, after a brief illness.
Services will be Tuesday at 11 a.m. Byerly-Lindsey Funeral Home in Loudonville, with the Rev. Gary Pollock and his grandson, the Rev. Nick Zeurcher officiating. Burial will be at Loudonville Cemetery.
Friends may call Monday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at the funeral home.
Memorial contributions may be made to Loudonville United Methodist Church, 124 N. Market St., Loudonville 44842.
He was born March 9, 1913, in Harrison, to Charles and Bessie Owens and married Hattie Liles. She survives.
Other survivors include children, Rodney Owens of Cincinnati and Sally (Mike) Warbel of Howard; six grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and a sister, Helen Showalter of Connersville, Ind.

Kenneth Stephens
BRINKHAVEN -- Kenneth Andrew Stephens, 45, of Brinkhaven, died Thursday evening, Sept. 27, 2001, at Akron General Hospital, after a short illness.
Services will be Monday at 1:30 p.m. at Alexander Funeral Home, Millersburg, with the Rev. Bob Hoffman officiating.
Friends may call Sunday from 2-6 p.m. at the funeral home.
He was born Dec. 4, 1955, in Marshallville, to Kenneth and Clarice (Bauders) Stephens and married Donna Priest on Aug. 28, 1982. She survives.
Other survivors include a son, Andy of the home; his mother of Brinkhaven; brothers, Ralph, Jesse, Paul and Karl Stephens; and sisters, Carol Steele, Leota Stone, Marlene McKee and Grace Franco.

Ruth Witsberger
DELAWARE -- Ruth E. Witsberger, 92, died Saturday, Sept. 22, 2001, at The Centrum at Willow Brook in Delaware, where she had been a resident for four years.
She had been a French, Latin and math teacher in Smithville, Lakewood and Delaware Hayes school districts.
Memorial services will be Sunday, Oct. 21 at 2:30 p.m. at Asbury United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Warren Campbell-Gaston officiating. Burial will be at Oak Grove Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be made to Asbury United Methodist Church, 55 W. Lincoln Ave., Delaware; or to the American Red Cross, 5 W. Winter St., Delaware 43015.
Arrangements were handled by Robinson Funeral Home in Delaware.
She was born Nov. 13, 1908, in Cincinnati, to John Paul and Lydia (Quell) Wagner and married Bernard Witsberger. He died in 1995.
Surviving are children, Kathleen (John) Korb of Northfield, Mass., Christina Witsberger of Takoma Park, Md., Julianne Houston of Delaware and Dennis (Cecilia) Witsberger of Marion; six grandchildren; a great-granddaughter; and two sisters.

Betty Zimmerly
RITTMAN -- Betty V. Zimmerly, 80, of North Metzger Avenue, died Friday, Sept. 28, 2001, at Wadsworth-Rittman Hospital.
Mass of Christian burial will be Tuesday at 10 a.m. at St. Anne Catholic Church, with Father Philip P. Pritt officiating. Burial will be at St. Anne Cemetery.
Friends may call Monday from 6-9 p.m. at Gillman Funeral Home in Rittman, where a prayer service will be held at 8:30 p.m.
Memorial contributions may be made to American Cancer Society, Wayne County Branch, 1740 Cleveland Road, Wooster 44691.
She was born Aug. 25, 1921, in Rittman to Albert and Matilda (Poete) Goffinet and was married to Carl E. Zimmerly for 56 years. He died in 1993.
Surviving are sons Kenneth (Marilyn) Zimmerly of Wooster and Carl (Theresa) Zimmerly of Elyria; grandchildren Steve, James, Tom, Beth, John, Robert and Brian Zimmerly, Cathy Michaelson and Brenda Holt; great-grandchildren Matthew, Rachael, Christopher, Grace, Kevin, Crystal, Joshua, Stacy and Jessica Zimmerly, Caroline and Jason Michaelson and Nicholas Bartlebaugh; brothers John (Irene) Goffinet of Doylestown and Leo Goffinet of Sterling; and sisters Gladys (Dick) Manning and Dorothy Barnes, both of Doylestown.

Melinda Exline
KILLBUCK -- Melinda Exline, 42, P.O. Box 886, died Thursday, Sept. 27, 2001, at Pomerene Hospital in Millersburg.
Services will be Monday at 11 a.m. at Alexander Funeral Home, Millersburg, with Pastor James Butler and the Rev. James Mayes officiating. Burial will be at Killbuck Cemetery.
Friends may call two hours prior to the services.
She was born June 16, 1959, in Massillon to Donald and Janet Tinder and married John Mark Exline on Aug. 9, 1993. He survives.
Other survivors include children Stacie Howell and Eddie Howell, both of Wooster, and Tracie Lawrence of Rittman; a granddaughter; her mother; sisters Connie, Sherrie and Louise; a brother, Tommy; and several nieces and nephews.

Rev. John Johnson
SUGARCREEK -- The Rev. John W. Johnson, 90, of Sugarcreek, died Saturday, Sept. 29, 2001, at Baltic Country Manor, where he had been a resident since Feb. 12, 2000.
Services will be Monday at 11 a.m. at Smith Funeral Home in Sugarcreek, with the Rev. Dick Marshall officiating. Burial will be at Ashland Cemetery.
Friends may call tonight (Sunday) from 6-8 at the funeral home.
The family suggests contributions be made to a charity of the donor's choice.
He was born Aug. 12, 1911, in Ashland to Perley and Bertha (Humphrey) Johnson and married Pauline Peffer. She died April 15, 1999.
Surviving are children Irene Link, a resident at Baltic Country Manor and Raymond E. (Barbara) Johnson of Dearborn, Mich.; two granddaughters; brothers Paul and Carl Johnson, both of Parma, and Wayne Johnson of Ashland; and sisters Olive Baughman of St. Petersburg, Fla., Ruth Cripe and Martha Stine, both of Ashland, and Mary Schwartz of Parma Heights.

Rev. Edwin Fleming Sr.
STONECREEK -- The Rev. Edwin L. Fleming Sr., 75, of Buehler Road, died Saturday, Sept. 29, 2001, at Union Hospital, after a brief illness.
He was the father of Jim (Karen) Fleming of Baltic.
Services will be Tuesday at 11 a.m. at Smith Funeral Home in Sugarcreek, with the Revs. Marvin Thomas and Brian Starcher officiating. Burial will be at Ragersville Cemetery, where military rites will be conducted by the Sugarcreek American Legion.
Friends may call Monday from 5-8 p.m. at the funeral home.
Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Tuscarawas County.
He was born July 5, 1926, in Cuyahoga Falls to Edward and Edith (Osborne) Fleming and married Sylvia Eckert on June 1, 1947. She survives.
Other survivors include children Leah (Jeff) Webber of Dover and Edwin L. (Kathy) Fleming of Magnolia; four grandchildren; his mother, of Alabama; sisters Bessie Fritz of Pennsylvania, Lida Oborne of Alabama and Edith Odell of Massillon; and a brother, Calvin Fleming, of Stow.

Ella Agee
WOOSTER -- Ella G. Agee, 79, 6495 Blachleyville Road, died Wednesday evening, Sept. 26, 2001, Pomerene Memorial Hospital in Millersburg.
Services will be Saturday at 2 p.m. at McIntire, Davis & Greene Funeral Home in Wooster, with the Rev. Dan Wingate officiating. Burial will be at Sherwood Memorial Gardens.
Friends may call tonight (Friday) from 7-9 at the funeral home.
She was born Nov. 13, 1921, in Bluefield, W.Va., to Mosie McKinley and Laura Lee (Cumiford) Starling and married Homer H. Agee in 1943. He died May 11, 1995.
Surviving are children, Gary D. (Ruth) Agee and Phil R. (Debbie) Agee, both of Wooster; a granddaughter, Stephanie; a brother, Okey Starling of Wooster; and a sister, Lucille (Lee) Dicus of Sarasota, Fla.

Phyllis Rice
WOOSTER -- Phyllis Ann Rice, 68, of Wooster, passed away Wednesday, Sept. 26, 2001, at Wooster Community Hospital.
Services will be Saturday at 1 p.m. at Parker & Son Funeral Home, 210 Medina St., Lodi, with the Rev. Clancy Cruise of Wooster, officiating. Burial will be at Woodlawn Cemetery in Lodi.
Friends may call today (Friday) from 2-4 and 7-9 at the funeral home, where Order of Eastern Star services will be held at 8:45 p.m.

She was born Feb. 24, 1933, in Bedford, to Samuel and Mildred (Wright) Gynn and married Franklin Rice on Dec. 15, 1952 in Monroe, Mich. He survives.
Other survivors include sons, Kevin Rice of Dallas, Russell (Jackie) Rice of Mooresville, N.C., and Dewain (Juli) Rice of Atlanta; grandchildren, Tiffany, Emily, Jenifer, Dianna and Lee; and her parents of Burbank.

Mary Freeland
MEDINA -- Mary (Seem) Freeland, 86, of Medina, died Tuesday, Sept. 11, 2001, at Medina General Hospital.
Services were held at Tannersville Union Cemetery in Tannersville, Pa. Waite & Son Funeral Home, Medina Chapel, handled arrangements.
She was born Jan. 14, 1915, in Tannersville, Pa.
Surviving are her husband, Edward Freeland of Medina; children, Allan F. (Helen) Yarbrough of Medina and Myrtle M. Yarbrough of Limerick, Pa.; and grandchildren, Shawn R. and David A. Yarbrough.
Her first husband, Frank A. Yarbrough, died previously.

Donald Vance Sr.
ORRVILLE -- Donald L. Vance Sr., 70, 519 Beaver St., died Thursday, Sept. 27, 2001, at his residence after a long illness.
Services will be Monday at 11 a.m. at Auble Funeral Home in Orrville, with the Rev. Claude McComas officiating. Burial will be at Crown Hill Cemetery in Orrville.
Friends may call Sunday from 6-9 p.m. at the funeral home.

He was born Jan. 14, 1931, in Glady, W.Va., to Ira W. and Ota Bell (Triplett) Vance and married Joan Markley on Sept. 26, 1955 in Elkins, W.Va. She survives.
Other survivors include children, Angela (Rick) Smith, Janel Vance and Donald (Mary) Vance, all of Orrville, Dana (Will) Barnes of Marianna, Fla., and Jack (Michelle) Vance of North Lawrence; grandchildren, Joshua and Jason Smith, Steve, Patty, Kenny, Ryan and Zachary Vance, Ashley and Jarod Barnes; brothers, Charles (Rita) Vance of New Pittsburg, Herman Vance of Bowden, W.Va., and Harold (Virginia) Vance of Orrville; and sisters, Bethel (Jim) Rhodes of Glady, W.Va., Ethel (Marshall) Parncutt of Elkins, W.Va., Betty Filuta of Orrville, Audrey (Stanley) Armentrout of Rittman and his twin sister, Donna (Charles) Mullholand of Walbridge.

Mattie Zook
WALNUT CREEK -- Mattie Zook, 100, of Walnut Hills Nursing Home, died Wednesday, Sept. 26, 2001, at the nursing home.
Services will be Saturday at 11 a.m. at Walnut Creek Mennonite Church, with pastors Ross Miller and Matt Hamsher officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
Friends may call Friday from 5-7 p.m. at the church, or one hour prior to services at the church.
Arrangements are being handled by Butler-Varns Funeral Home in Sugarcreek.
Memorial contributions may be made to Walnut Creek Mennonite Church, PO Box 182, Walnut Creek 44687.
She was born Sept. 2, 1901, in Walnut Creek, to Alexander D. and Mary Jane (Miller) Hochstetler and married Ralph D. Zook on Sept. 9, 1922. He died May 21, 1990.
Surviving are sons-in-law, Eugene "Mike" Miller of Walnut Creek and Howard Miller of Fredericksburg; seven grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.

Carol McClarran
WOOSTER -- Carol Sue McClarran, 55, 132 Pearl St., died Tuesday afternoon, Sept. 25, 2001, at Wooster Community Hospital.
Private family services will be held. McIntire, Davis & Greene Funeral Home in Wooster is handling arrangements.

She was born June 26, 1946, in Bremen, Ind., to Raymond and Verna (Schneider) Lozier and married Harry S. McClarran on May 22, 1976. He survives.
Other survivors include sons, Jeffrey Allen and Gregory Scott McClarran, both of West Lafayette; four grandchildren; and a brother, Roscoe Lozier of Nappanee, Ind.

Delbert Ott
MARSHALLVILLE -- Delbert R. Ott, 88, of Marshallville, died Wednesday, Sept. 26, 2001, at Dunlap Memorial Hospital in Orrville.
Private family services have been held.
He was born March 19, 1913, in Wayne County.
Surviving are a stepson, William (Reva) Stetler of Marshallville; two step-granddaughters; two step-great-grandsons; a brother; and two sisters.
His wife, Elizabeth G. Ott, died previously.

Cliff Trunk
KILGORE, Texas -- The Lord called Cliff Trunk, 69, of Kilgore, Texas, home on Tuesday, Sept. 25, 2001.
Services will be Friday at 10 a.m. in the Chapel of Rader Funeral Home, 401 N. Martin, Kilgore, Texas, with Pastor Bill Churchwell officiating. Military honors will follow at Rusk County Memorial Gardens.
Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Longview, 1306 Pinetree Road, Longview, Texas 75604.
He was born Dec. 20, 1931, in Norfork, Ark., to John and Quba Trunk.
Surviving are his wife, Ramona Trunk of Kilgore, Texas; children, Steven Trunk of San Diego, Lisa (Steven) Meador of Kilgore, Texas, and Adrianne (Jim) Silveria of Oceanside, Calif.; grandchildren, Derek Trunk, Kamin Leonard, Andrew Siron, Summer, Brian and Amanda Silveria; great-grandchildren, Abigail and Nicholas Leonard; his mother, Quba Mills; a sister, Barbara (Charles) Berry; a brother, Kenneth Trunk; and several nieces and nephews.

Judith Hall
ORRVILLE -- Judith J. Hall, 59, 200 W. Paradise St., died Tuesday, Sept. 25, 2001, at Dunlap Memorial Hospital.
Services will be Saturday at 11 a.m. at Roberts Funeral Home, Sherwood Chapel, Wooster. Entombment will be at Sherwood Memorial Gardens.

She was born Nov. 6, 1941, in Columbus to Bruno and Esther (Potts) Chiappi and married Ferril J. Hall on June 11, 1960. He survives.

(Pat) Chiappi of Staten Island, N.Y., and Michael B. (Jeanne) Chiappi of Lewis Center; and aunts, Betty, Irene and Evelyn.

Bernice Eby
SEVILLE -- Bernice M. Eby, 82, of Seville, died Tuesday, Sept. 25, 2001, at Medina General Hospital.
Services will be Saturday at 11 a.m. at Seville United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Philip Wilden officiating. Burial will be at Mound Hill Cemetery in Seville.
Friends may call Friday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at Armstrong-Waite Funeral Home in Seville.

She was born in Westfield Township to Walter and Florence (Clark) Edis.
Surviving are sons, James (Mary Lou) Eby, Walter (Jean) Eby and Jeffrey (Cindy) Eby, all of Seville and Robert Eby of Medina; nine grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; a great-great-grandchild; and a sister, Helen (Don) Dean of South Carolina.
