Lester Franks
BIG PRAIRIE -- Lester J. Franks, 37, 12952 County Road 330, died Friday morning, April 27, 2001, at his home after a courageous battle with cancer.
Services will be Tuesday at 11 a.m. at Murray Funeral Home in Creston, with the Rev. Ken Scheck officiating. Burial will be at Canaan Cemetery.
Friends may call Monday from 6-9 p.m. at the funeral home.
Contributions may be made to the Lester Franks Memorial Fund, in care of Stebbins National Bank, P.O. Box 1113, Creston 44217.
He was born Dec. 29, 1963, in Wooster, and married Marsha L. Croft on June 14, 1997 in Creston. She survives.
Other survivors include his mother, Faye (Arnold) Franks and his father, Earl Franks, both of Wooster; a sister and brother-in-law, Marla Troutman and Michael Braghieri of North Canton; nieces and nephews, Melissa Troutman and her fiance, Mark Mays of North Canton, Justin Braghieri and Shannon Braghieri, both of North Canton; grandmother, Dorothy Franks of Wooster; in-laws, Calvin and Becky Croft of Creston; a brother and sister-in-law, Brian and Robin Croft of Creston; faithful companions, Annie and Max; and aunts, uncles, cousins and many special friends.

Katherine McClure
LOUDONVILLE -- Katherine (Yeager) McClure, 80, formerly of Wood Street, died Thursday, April 19, 2001, in Claremont, Calif., after a brief illness.
Graveside memorial services will be held in July. Burial will be Friday in Loudonville Cemetery.
Arrangements are being handled by Byerly-Lindsey Funeral Home in Loudonville.
She was born Oct. 8, 1920, in Kalamazoo, Mich., to Ernest and Inez (Clark) Yeager and married Francis William McClure. He died Dec. 23, 1945.
Surviving are a daughter, Sandra K. Miller of Fontana, Calif.; two grandchildren; and a sister, Charlotte (Jim) Fowler of Amity.

Dorothy Horton
WOOSTER -- Dorothy I. Horton, 93, of Wooster, died Thursday morning, April 26, 2001, at Horn Nursing Home, after a long illness. She had been a resident there since June 1998.
Graveside services will be Saturday at 10 a.m. at Wooster Cemetery.
There will be no calling hours. Custer-Glenn Funeral Home, Wooster, is handling arrangements.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Horn Nursing Home, 230 N. Market St., Wooster 44691.
She was born Sept. 2, 1907, in Plain Township, Wayne County, to Burton E. and Almeda E. (Jontz) Boreman and married James C. Horton on Dec. 19, 1931 in Wooster. He died Feb. 26, 1995, in Wooster.
There are no immediate survivors.

John Yoder
MILLERSBURG -- John A. Yoder, 78, 1572 Township Road 111, died Wednesday, April 25, 2001, at his residence after a brief illness.
Services will be Saturday at 9 a.m. at the residence, with Bishop Ervin A. Yoder officiating. Burial will be at Miller Cemetery, Mill Creek Township, Coshocton County.
Friends may call anytime at the residence.
Arrangements are being handled by Smith Funeral Home in Sugarcreek.
He was born Nov. 20, 1922, in Holmes County, to Andrew J. and Susie (Raber) Yoder and married Anna Schlabach on Dec. 9, 1943. She survives.
Other survivors include Mrs. Noah (Amanda) Miller and Andrew (Esther) Yoder, both of Baltic, Mrs. Ivan (Esther) Troyer of the home and Atlee (Ada) Yoder of Millersburg; a daughter-in-law, Sara Ann Yoder of Millersburg; 32 grandchildren; 50 great-grandchildren; brothers, Mose A. (Lizzie) Yoder and Roman A. (Mary) Yoder, both of Baltic, Andy A. (Amanda) Yoder and Abe A. (Mattie) Yoder, both of Millersburg; and sisters, Mary Ann Miller and Mrs. Noah (Lydiann) Miller, both of Sugarcreek, Mrs. Ammon (Ada) Raber of Flat Rocks, Ill., and Mrs. Mose (Mattie) Miller of Millersburg.

Louie Carter Sr.
WOOSTER -- Louie T. Carter Sr., 86, 470 Carter Drive, died Wednesday, April 25, 2001, at Cleveland Clinic.
Services will be Saturday at 11 a.m. at McIntire, Davis & Greene Funeral Home in Wooster, with the Revs. Glenn Royer and Leroy Adams officiating. Burial will be at Wooster Cemetery.
Friends may call today (Friday) from 2-4 and 7-9 at the funeral home, where a memorial Masonic service will be held at 6:45.
Those who wish may make contributions to Shriners Hospital, in care of Earl Walker, 3139 Burbank Road, Wooster; American Cancer Society, Wayne County Branch, 1740 Cleveland Road, Wooster; Trinity United Church of Christ, 150 E. North St., Wooster 44691; or to a charity of the donor's choice.
He was born Feb. 22, 1915, at Warren, Ark., to Theophilus James Gabriel and Ida Ruth (Davenport) Carter and married R. Pauline Cornelius on Nov. 18, 1939. She survives.
Other survivors include children, Louie "Tom" and Dee Carter of Wooster and Julia (William) Anderson of Minnesota; grandchildren, Christopher (Tami) Anderson, Scott (Janet) Anderson, Jennifer Carter Seman and her husband, Doug and Amy Carter Brown and husband, Kevin; and great-grandchildren, Allyson and Ryan Anderson and John and Andrew Seman.

Viola Ritter
WOOSTER -- Viola Irene Ritter, 90, of Wooster, entered into rest Wednesday morning, April 25, 2001, at Heritage Park Nursing Home, Wooster, after a long illness.
Private services will be at the convenience of the family.
There will be no calling hours. Custer-Glenn Funeral Home, Wooster, is handling arrangements.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer's Association, 4815 Munson St., NW, Canton 44718.
She was born July 19, 1910, in West Salem, to William J. and Minnie M. (Witmer) Pinnick and married H. Merle Ritter on Nov. 27, 1928, in Wooster. He survives.
Surviving in addition to her loving husband are children, Mrs. Lyle (Betty Y.) Howman of Pleasant Home and Richard Merle (LeAnna) Ritter of Jeromesville; six grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; and a brother, Ross (Lucille) Pinnick of Lake Placid, Fla.

Lloyd Zuercher
WALNUT CREEK -- Lloyd Zuercher, 86, of Walnut Hills Nursing Home, formerly of Clark, died Tuesday, April 24, 2001, at Aultman Hospital in Canton.
Services will be Friday at 2 p.m. at Walnut Creek Mennonite Church, with the Revs. Ross Miller and Matt Hamsher officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
Friends may call tonight (Thursday) from 6-8 at the church, or one hour prior to the services at the church.
Arrangements are being handled by Butler-Varns Funeral Home in Sugarcreek.
Memorial contributions may be made to Walnut Creek Mennonite Church, P.O. Box 182, Walnut Creek 44687.
He was born June 11, 1914, in Berlin Township, Holmes County, to Clarence and Ada (Hershberger) Zuercher.
Surviving are a brother, Venus (Cora) Zuercher and a sister, Elsie Byler, both of Millersburg; and five nephews.

Jeanette Gatschet
NEW PHILADELPHIA -- Jeanette E. Gatschet, 91, of New Philadelphia, died Tuesday, April 24, 2001, at Morning View Care Center, where she had resided for the last two weeks due to illness.
Services will be Saturday at 10 a.m. at Linn-Hert-Geib Funeral Home in New Philadelphia, with Pastor Michael E. Walters officiating. Burial will follow alongside her husband at Evergreen Burial Park.
Friends may call Friday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at the funeral home.
She was born Sept. 8, 1909, in Warwick Township, Tuscarawas County, and was the daughter of the late John and Nora "Noad" Fivecoat McIntosh.
Surviving are a daughter, Shirley J. West, who cared for her in her home; grandchildren, Robin (Donald) Kauffman, Tonja Anderson and her companion, Gary Sims and Lana West and her fiance, Kelly Garrett, all of New Philadelphia, Brandi (Dave) Hogue of Tuscarawas, Wayne (Connie) Snyder Jr. of Dalton and Bill (Vicki) Snyder of Brightwood; 15 great-grandchildren; a great-granddaughter-in-law, and a great-great-grandchild who will be born in September.
Her husband, Ward L. Gatschet, died April 6, 1975.

Lavern Tennant
JOHNSTOWN -- Lavern Tennant, 77, formerly of Johnstown, died Tuesday, April 24, 2001, at Smithville-Western Care Center, Wooster.
She was the mother of Glenda (Leonard) Ramsey of Lakeville and Robert L. (Chris) Tennant of West Salem.
Services will be Friday at 2 p.m. at First Southern Baptist Church, 310 Jersey Road, Johnstown, with the Rev. Michael Rector officiating. Burial will be at Green Hill Cemetery.
Friends may call Thursday from 5-8 p.m. at Crouse-Kauber-Sammons Funeral Home, 225 N. Main St., Johnstown.
Memorial contributions may be made to First Southern Baptist Church, designated for Romanian Missions Ministries, 310 Jersey Road, P.O. Box 591, Johnstown 43031.
She was born Nov. 11, 1923, in Batesville, Miss., to William D. and Elva (Roach) Percell and married Robert W. Tennant. He died previously.
Other survivors include children, Jerry W. (Diana) Tennant of Croton and James A. (Becky) Tennant of Centerburg; nine grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; a great-great-grandchild; and a sister, Evelyn Hester of Batesville, Miss.

George Rohn
NAVARRE -- George L. Rohn, 77, of Navarre, died Friday, April 20, 2001, at his home, after a long period of declining health.
He was the brother of Elizabeth Simon of Dalton.
Burial of the cremains will be at a later date at Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery in Rittman, at which time a memorial service will be held.
Arrangements are being handled by The Cremation Society of Ohio.
He was born Jan. 9, 1924, in Beach City, to Earl and Grace Rohn.
Other survivors include children, Diane G. Donovan of Longwood, Fla., and Richard Rohn of Canton, Mich.; and five grandchildren.

Earl Widmer
MESA, Ariz. -- Earl Richard Widmer, 93, of Mesa, Ariz., passed away peacefully Friday, April 20, 2001.
Services were held Wednesday, April 25, at Hansen Mortuary, Mercer Chapel, 1541 E. Thomas Road, Phoenix, Ariz. Graveside services were at Greenwood Memory Lawn Cemetery, Mercer Chapel.
He was born in Cleveland.
Surviving are his devoted wife of 72 years, Frances; daughters, Betty Slater of Mesa, Ariz., Helen Stewart of Tucson, Ariz., and Nancy Schuff of Surprise, Ariz.; 13 grandchildren; 36 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; a brother, Edwin Widmer of Marana, Ariz.; and a sister, Violet Whitmore of North Carolina.

Ethel Stewart
WINTER HAVEN, Fla. -- Ethel Johnson Stewart, 100, of Winter Haven, Fla., died Monday, April 23, 2001, at her home.
Services will be Thursday at 11 a.m. at Southside Baptist Church in Winter Haven, Fla. Burial will be at Mound Hill Cemetery, Seville.
Arrangements were handled by Gillman Funeral Home in Rittman.
She was born May 26, 1900, in Wayne County.
Surviving are nieces and nephews.

Jacqueline Allen
CRESTON -- Jacqueline M. "Jackie" Allen, 69, 251 Jackson Road, died Tuesday, April 24, 2001, at Wadsworth-Rittman Hospital, after a short illness.
Services will be Saturday at 11 a.m. at Creston Presbyterian Church, with the Rev. James McCurdy officiating. Burial will be at Jackson Cemetery.
Friends may call Friday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at Murray Funeral Home in Creston.
Memorial contributions may be made to Creston Presbyterian Church Building Fund or Flower Fund, 13070 Cleveland Road, Creston 44217.
She was born Jan. 1, 1932, in Barberton, to Eldoris and Louise (Bergdorf) Collins and married Richard G. Allen on Jan. 7, 1950. He survives.
She was a loving wife, mother and grandmother to her husband, Richard; sons, Andrew Allen and Lee (Melinda) Allen, both of Seville, Daniel (Marj) Allen and Scott (Jill) Allen, both of Wooster, Ben (Penny) Allen of Creston and George (Gretchen) Allen of Wadsworth; and grandchildren, Becky, Joe, Tad, Cathlin, Kenneth, Charles, Christopher, Jeremy, Leslie, Michael, Sara, Jackie, Sam and Susanna.

Sara Cottrel
WEST SALEM -- Sara M. Cottrel, 17, of West Salem, died Monday, April 23, 2001, from injuries sustained in an auto accident.
Services will be Friday at 11 a.m. at Congress Community Church, with the Rev. Rusty Cowden officiating. Burial will be at Congress Cemetery.
Friends may call Thursday from 2-4 and 6-9 p.m. at Matteson Funeral Home in West Salem.
Memorial contributions may be made to Congress Community Church, 193 N. Main St., West Salem 44287.
She was born June 7, 1983, in Trenton, N.J., to Christopher and Gayl (Brown) Cottrel.
Surviving are her parents; a brother, Adam of the home; maternal grandmother, Jean Brown, and paternal grandparents, Rene and Patricia Cottrel, all of West Chester, Pa.

Betty Foster
CUMBERLAND -- Betty L. Foster, 79, 6754 Bluebell Road, died Monday, April 23, 2001, at her residence.
Services will be Friday at 1 p.m. at Roberts Funeral Home, Sherwood Chapel, Wooster, with the Revs. David Foster and George Gribbens officiating. Entombment will be at Sherwood Memorial Gardens.
Friends may call Thursday from 6-8 p.m. at the funeral home.
Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Guernsey County, P.O. Box 1165, Cambridge 43725.
She was born Oct. 8, 1921, in Cleveland, to Ransom and Clara (Wells) Emmons and married Stewart M. Foster on June 12, 1940. He survives.
Other survivors include children, Russell R. Foster of Sharon Center, Jerry S. Foster of Brunswick, Rebecca (Allen) Dina of Chatham, James (Vicki) Foster of Medina, Deborah (Edward) Lively of Cumberland, Jan (Joni) Foster of Virginia Beach, Va., and Ron (Michelle) Foster of Spencer; 30 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and a sister, Helen Beckett of Westlake.

Audrey Zimmer
CANTON, N.C. -- Audrey (Hansen) Zimmer, 71, died Saturday, April 21, 2001, in Canton, N.C.
A memorial celebration is planned for Thursday at 3 p.m., at the home of her daughter, Sue Cox.
Arrangements are being handled by Forest Lawn Funeral Home in Enka, N.C.
A memorial garden is being planned in honor of Audrey Zimmer. The family has requested live floral contributions be made for the garden. For additional information, contact Sue Cox, 92 N. Main St., Canton, N.C.
She was born to Albert R. and Helen L. (Kopera) Hansen and married Hugh Russell Zimmer. He died previously.
Surviving are daughters, Sue Cox of Canton, N.C., and Carol Apple of Tampa, Fla.; a stepson, Hugh Russell Zimmer II of Englewood, Fla.; two granddaughters; brothers, Albert Hansen of Millersburg, George Hansen of Norwalk and Dean Hansen of Dunnellon, Fla.

Clara Troyer
MILLERSBURG -- Clara A. Troyer, 34, 2780 County Road 600, died Tuesday, April 24, 2001, at her residence after a brief illness.
Services will be Thursday at 9 a.m. at the residence, with Bishop Roy J.C. Yoder officiating. Burial will be at Miller Cemetery, Clark Township, Holmes County.
Friends may call anytime at the residence.
Arrangements are being handled by Smith Funeral Home in Sugarcreek.
She was born Oct. 12, 1966, in Holmes County, to Abe M. and Mattie (Yoder) Troyer.
Surviving are her parents, with whom she had made her home; sisters, Mrs. John R. (Mary) Miller and Mrs. Reuben D. (Esther) Yoder, both of Millersburg, Mrs. Eli E. (Katie) Yoder of Baltic and Mrs. Albert R. (Amanda) Miller of the home; brothers, Atlee A. (Cherie) Troyer of Millersburg and Mose A. (Martha) Troyer of Baltic; and a step-grandmother, Mrs. Mose D. (Elizabeth) Troyer of Fresno.
