Milton Hothem
FRESNO -- Milton A. Hothem, 80, 28530 Township Road 95, died Monday, March 12, 2001, at Union Hospital in Dover, after an extended illness.
He was the brother of Dorothy Kaser of Baltic.
Services will be Friday at 11 a.m. at Bakersville Presbyterian Church in Bakersville, with the Rev. Wayne Harmon officiating. Burial will be at Bakersville Cemetery, where military rites will be conducted by the Coshocton Veterans Council.
Friends may call Thursday from 5-8 p.m. at Smith Funeral Home in Sugarcreek.
The family suggests contributions be made to Bakersville Presbyterian Church.
He was born June 9, 1920, near Bakersville, to George and Minnie (Troendly) Hothem.
Other survivors include his wife, Elsie (Renner) Hothem, whom he married Sept. 6, 1987; sons, James (Michelle) Hothem of New Philadelphia and David (Becky) Hothem-Nylund of Stonecreek; stepchildren, Laurean (Ken) Davis of Columbus, Karl Kohler, Susan (Richard) Hoy, Nancy (Bob) Minard and Connie (Mike) Kinsey, all of New Philadelphia, Jim (Annabelle) Border and Don (Becky) Border, both of Coshocton, Gene (Neida) Border of Lima, Dick (Maxine) Border of Walhonding, Earl (Laurel) Adams of Cambridge, Roy (Judy) Adams of Warsaw and Nancy (Ike) Domer of Dover; three grandchildren; 28 step-grandchildren; 47 step-great-grandchildren; and sisters, Virginia (Clint) Fairchild and Lois (Paul) Gilhousen, both of Fresno.
His second wife, Harrietta (Kohler) Hothem, died in 1981.

Goldie Funk
WOOSTER -- Goldie V. Funk, 88, formerly of Orchard Drive, died Sunday, March 11, 2001, at Smithville-Western Care Center.
Services will be Thursday at 1 p.m. at McIntire, Davis & Greene Funeral Home in Wooster, with the Rev. David F. Stout officiating. Burial will be at Reedsburg Cemetery.
Friends may call Wednesday from 7-9 p.m. at the funeral home.
Those who wish may make contributions to Central Christian Church, 407 N. Market St., Wooster 44691.
She was born Aug. 30, 1912, in Reedsburg, to Frank and Amanda (Rutt) Ensminger and married Clair C. Funk in 1932. He died Aug. 26, 1976.
Surviving are children, Paul (Lavina) Funk and David D. (Carolyn L.) Funk, both of Wooster and Charles E. Funk of Pittsburgh, Pa.; four grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and sisters, Sylvia Crago of Strongsville, Cotta Durbin, Twyla Harry and Marjorie Easterday, all of Wooster.

Bert Miller
WINESBURG -- Bert R. Miller, 85, of Winesburg, died Monday morning, March 12, 2001, at his home after an extended illness.
Services will be Wednesday at 9 a.m. at the residence, with Bishop Aden Hershberger officiating. Burial will be at Yoder Cemetery, Paint Township, Holmes County.
Friends may call anytime at the residence. Spidell Funeral Home in Mount Eaton is handling arrangements.
He was born June 30, 1915, in Holmes County, to Reuben H. and Katie (Troyer) Miller and married Mary Troyer on Feb. 3, 1938. She died Oct. 29, 1942. On Aug. 15, 1944, he married Elizabeth Hershberger. She survives.
Other survivors include children, Mose (Mattie) Miller of Millersburg, John (Mary) Miller and Katie (Eli) Miller, both of Winesburg, Lovina (Crist) Miller of Fredericksburg, Jacob (Fannie) Miller of Trail, Mattie (Albert) Beachy of Dundee, Reuben (Ada Mae) Miller and Susan Miller, both of the home, Dena (Ervin) Yoder of Sugarcreek and Ella (Perry) Schmucker of Shipshewana, Ind.; 49 grandchildren; 59 great-grandchildren; brothers, Reuben R. Miller of Holmesville and Mose R. Miller of Millersburg; sisters, Elizabeth (Dan) Shrock and Sarah (William) Yoder, both of Millersburg; half-brothers, Jacob Mast of Berlin and Dan Mast of Florida; a half-sister, Lizzie Ann (Raymond) Weaver of Millersburg; stepbrothers, Andy Mast of Holmesville and Eli Mast of Florida; and a stepsister, Susie (Alvin) Yoder of Dundee.

Robert Honigman
PARMA -- Robert N. Honigman, 69, of Parma, died Saturday, March 10, 2001, at his residence.
He was the father of Karl (Deborah) Honigman of Seville and Daniel (Ann) Honigman of Burbank.
A Funeral Mass will be today (Tuesday) at 10:30 at St. Therese of the Child Jesus Church in Parma. Burial will be at All Saints Cemetery in Northfield.
Friends may call today (Tuesday) at 9:30 a.m. at Golubski Funeral Home, 5986 Ridge Road, Parma.
He was born Dec. 15, 1931, in Cleveland, to Mathias and Marie (Dorow) Honigman and married Marion Sacha. She survives.
Other survivors include children, Theresa (John) Spark, Susan (Kenneth) Paul and Edward Honigman, all of Parma, Michael (Carolyn) Honigman and Carol (William) Walker, both of Richfield, Barbara (Darrell) Sargent of Sturgis, Mich., Jeanette (Mark) Wade of Hudson and Erika (Michael) Mondt of Berea; 23 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and sisters, Eleanor Esther of the Parma area and Marjorie (Ottis) Ward of Michigan.

Ruth Reed
WILMOT -- Ruth H. Reed, 71, of Wilmot, died Saturday, March 10, 2001, at Mercy Medical Center in Canton, following an extended illness.
Her body was cremated and a memorial service will be held Sunday, April 1, at 2 p.m. at Wilmot United Methodist Church with the Rev. Ray Peters officiating. Burial of the cremains will be in the Greenlawn Cemetery in Wilmot. The family will receive friends immediately following the service.
Memorial contributions may be made to Wilmot United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 98, Wilmot 44689.

She was born Feb. 8, 1930, near Strasburg, to Victor F. and Amelia L. (Reed) Hartline.
She is survived by a daughter, Mrs. Richard (Christine) Glasgo of Wilmot and a son, Michael L. (Karen) Reed of Walton, Ky., and four grandchildren.

Howard Heacock
WOOSTER -- Howard Heacock, 80, 407 N. Grant St., died Saturday, March 10, 2001, at the University Hospital in Cleveland.
Services will be Wednesday at 11 a.m. at Roberts Funeral Home, Sherwood Chapel, with the Rev. Dr. Allan Nathan officiating. Burial will be at Sherwood Memorial Gardens, Wooster.
Friends may call Tuesday from 6-8 p.m. at the funeral home where Masonic services will be held at 6 p.m.
Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, Wayne County Branch, 1740 Cleveland Road, Wooster 44691.
He was born Feb. 27, 1921, in Canton, to Ivan and Maria (Trauscheidt) Heacock. He married Jacqueline "Jackie" Kellicker on May 10, 1969. She died in 1994.
Surviving are a son, Robert Heacock of Tampa, Fla.; stepchildren, Patrick Murphy of Canton, Tamara (George) Robinson of Louisville, Judy (Dan) Sizemore of Malvern, Michelle (Roland) Porrman of Minerva; seven grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; a sister, Mary Lou (Floyd) Batanian of Toledo and an aunt, Elsie Miller of Phoenix, Ariz.

Ben Ely
DALTON -- Ben E. Ely, 77, of Dalton, died unexpectedly Saturday, March 10, 2001, at Dunlap Memorial Hospital in Orrville.
There will be private family services.
Memorials may be made to Multiple Sclerosis Society, 520 S. Main St., Akron 44262 ; or to Wayne County Hospice, 2525-A Back Orrville Road, Wooster, 44691.
Zak-Monbarren Funeral Home in Dalton is handling arrangements.
He was born March 26, 1923, in Staten Island, N.Y., to Ben A. and Hazel (Glass) Ely and married Sue Gwin on Aug. 16, 1941.
He is survived by wife, Sue E. Ely of Dalton; daughters, Karen (Richard) Bodager of Dalton and Ann Ely of Wooster; two grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; a brother, Hugh Ely of Long Island, N.Y.

Doris Porter
PERRYSVILLE -- Doris I. Porter, 84, 3308 Township Road 3375, died unexpectedly Sunday morning, March 11, 2001, at Samaritan Regional Health System, Ashland.
Services will be Wednesday at 11 a.m. at Byerly-Lindsey Funeral Home, Loudonville, with the Rev. Howard Burnett officiating. Burial will be at Bunker Hill Cemetery near Butler.
Friends may call Tuesday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at the funeral home.
Memorial contributions may be made to Loudonville Fire Department/Emergency Medical Service Inc., 200 N. Market St., Loudonville 44842 or Ohio Lions Eyesight Research Foundation.
She was born Feb. 27, 1917, in Brinkhaven, to Austin and Nina (Snyder) Meeks and married Russell Porter. He died in 1977.
Surviving are four sons and daughters-in-law, Gail and Esther Porter of Mansfield, Terry and Diane Porter of Butler, Ted Porter of Mount Vernon and Tim and Mary Porter of Perrysville; her daughter and son-in-law, Teresa and Bob Odenkirk of Loudonville; seven grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

John Lake
SHREVE -- John L. Lake, 80, formerly of Shreve, and a resident of Wayne County Care Center, entered into rest, Friday evening, March 9, 2001, at Wooster Community Hospital, following a short illness.
Services will be Wednesday at 10 a.m. at Wayne County Care Center Chapel, Wooster, with the Rev. Rufus Thompson officiating, followed by interment at Newkirk Cemetery, Shreve.
Visitation will be Tuesday from 6-8 p.m. at Custer-Glenn Funeral Home, Wooster, and one-half hour prior to services at the Wayne County Care Center. A Masonic Service will be held at 7:45 p.m. Tuesday evening at the funeral home conducted by Garfield Lodge No. 528 of Shreve.
Memorial contributions may be made to Tadmore Shriners, 3300 Krebs Ave., Akron 44310.
Mr. Lake was born on Jan. 2, 1921, in Holmes County, to Henry D. and Catherine (Kyser) Lake and moved to Wayne County in 1952.
He is survived by several nieces and nephews, cousins and an aunt, Ivy Kyser of Ashland.

Jewel Allport
POLK -- Jewel E. Allport, 76, of Polk and formerly of Seville and Vallejo, Calif., died Sunday, March 11, 2001, at Samaritan Hospital in Ashland.
Services will be Tuesday at 2 p.m. at Armstrong-Waite Funeral Home in Seville with the Rev. Mike Daniele officiating. Burial will be at Mound Hill Cemetery in Seville.
Friends may call tonight (Monday) from 7-9 p.m. at the funeral home.
Memorial contributions may be made to Meals on Wheels.
She was born in Cleveland to John and Eula (White) Bistor. She had been married to Carl Still for 25 years, who was father of their children and to Donald Allport for 14 years.
Surviving are sons and daughters-in-law, David and Jeannette Still of Burbank and Steven and Holly Still of Polk City, Fla.; daughter and son-in-law, Vicki and Ray Akers of Polk; seven grandchildren; four great-grandchildren and two brothers, Eugene Bistor of Rittman and Robert Bistor of Cambridge.

Dorothy Wickens
WOOSTER -- Dorothy Kay "Dottie" Wickens, 45, 651 E. Henry St., died Saturday, March 10, 2001, at Wooster Community Hospital.
Services will be Tuesday at 11 a.m. at McIntire, Davis & Greene Funeral Home with the Rev. Richard Oliver officiating. Burial will be at Wooster Cemetery.
Friends may call tonight (Monday) from 7-9 at the funeral home.
Those who wish may make contributions to the funeral home to help defray expenses.
She was born July 22, 1955, in Wooster, to Walter M. and Dorothy (Airwyke) Wickens.
Surviving are a daughter, Melanie Wickens of Wooster; a son, Rodney Wickens of Wooster; a grandchild; her parents of Wooster; brothers, Walt Jr. (Mickie) Wickens, Bob Wickens and Richard Airwyke, all of Wooster and Frank W. (Darla) Wickens of Shreve; sisters, Sandy (Lloyd) Smetzer of Shreve and Jennifer Wickens of Wooster; her maternal grandmother, Marie Airwyke and many nieces and nephews.

M. Luella Miller
NAVARRE -- M. Luella Miller, 88, of Navarre, died Friday afternoon, March 9, 2001, at St. Luke Lutheran Community in North Canton, after an extended illness.
Services will be Tuesday at 11 a.m. at Justus United Methodist Church with the Rev. Scott Walsh officiating. Burial will be at Welty Cemetery near Brewster.
Friends may call Monday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at Spidell Funeral Home in Brewster and one hour before services at the church.
Memorial contributions may be made to St. Luke Lutheran Community or to Justus United Methodist Church.
She was born Aug. 17, 1912, in Marion, Ind. to Edward and Mabel (Harris) Lingo and married John M. Miller on Sept. 13, 1935. He died April 12, 1988.
Surviving are a daughter, Mrs. Robert (Twila) Senften of Hartville; a son Myron (Marilyn) Miller of Navarre; four grandchildren and relatives in Wayne and Holmes Counties.

Helen Runyon
POMPANO BEACH, Fla. -- Helen Lucille (Mowrey) Runyon, 90, of Pompano Beach, Fla. died Saturday, March 10, 2001, at North West Regional Medical Center, Margate, Fla.
Graveside service will be Tuesday at noon at Newark (Ohio) Memorial Gardens with the Rev. Richard Burgie officiating.
Friends may call one hour prior to the graveside service at the Newark Chapel of Henderson, Van Atta & Johnston Funeral Service, 59 North 5th St., Newark.
The family suggests memorial contributions be made to Christ Lutheran Church, 732 Hebron Road, Heath.
She was born July 13, 1910, in Wooster to Adam and Mary Viola (Hartman) Mowrey. Her husband, Herbert J. Runyon, whom she married March 21, 1951 in Baltimore, Md., died previously.
Surviving are a daughter, Marcia Runyon Kaplan of North Lauderdale, Fla., and two granddaughters.

Earl Sprunger
COLUMBUS -- Earl M. "Doc" Sprunger, DVM, 88, of Columbus and formerly of Apple Creek and Roscommon, Mich., died Friday, March 9, 2001, at the Whetstone Gardens & Care Center in Columbus, following a period of declining health.
A memorial service will be Wednesday at 11 a.m. at St. Peter's United Church of Christ in Apple Creek with the Rev. Richard B. Ross officiating. Burial will be at the Apple Creek Cemetery.
Friends may call Tuesday from 6-8 p.m. at Spidell Funeral Home in Mount Eaton.
Contributions may be made to the Kidron Community Historical Society, P.O. Box 234, Kidron 44636.
He was born near Apple Creek on May 18, 1912, to Christian and Adella (Lehman) Sprunger and lived in this area until 1981.
On July 3, 1937, he married Margaret E. Curl. She died on May 12, 1980. He then married Elizabeth (Brewer) Allen on November 15, 1982. She survives. Also surviving is a daughter, Mrs. Bernerd (Susan) Campbell of Columbus; three stepsons; three grandchildren; seven step-grandchildren; and a sister, Edna Wyre of Lindsay, Ontario.

Earl Bell
SHREVE -- Earl B. Bell, 82, 330 Water St., Lot 1, died Friday, March 9, 2001, at his residence.
Services will be Monday at 11 a.m. at Big Prairie Community Bible Church with the Rev. Kris Westbeld officiating. Burial will be at Sherwood Memorial Gardens.
Friends may call tonight (Sunday) from 6-8 at Schlabach Funeral Home, Shreve.
Family suggests memorial contributions be made to Big Prairie Community Church, P.O. Box 112, Big Prairie 44611 or Hospice of Wayne County, 2525-A Back Orrville Road, Wooster 44691.
Earl was born in Holmes County on March 25, 1918, to Harvey and Ola (McClaran) Bell.
He married Helen Akin Mellor on March 24, 1967, and she survives.
Also surviving are a stepdaughter, Nancy (Roland) Lloyd of Chippewa Lake; five grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; a sister, Etha Mae Webb of Huntington Beach, Calif.; and his special pet, "Bright Eyes."

Anna Smucker
SMITHVILLE -- Anna Smucker, 99, formerly of South Summit Street, died Thursday, March 8, 2001, at Smithville-Western Care Center, Wooster.
Memorial services will be Thursday at 11 a.m. at Oak Grove Mennonite Church with the Rev. Norma Duerksen officiating.
There will be no calling hours.
Gresser Funeral Home is handling arrangements.
Anna Ruth Smucker was born Oct. 6, 1901, near Smithville, to Menno and Lydia (Zook) Smucker.
She is survived by numerous nieces and nephews and countless students and friends whose lives have forever been shaped and influenced by her loving and caring spirit.
In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts can be made to the "Anna Smucker Memorial Fund" at Oak Grove Mennonite Church.

Mary Maslak
RITTMAN -- Mary E. Maslak, 94, of Rittman, died Friday, March 9, 2001, at Rittman Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.
She was born March 9, 1907, at Mount Pleasant, Pa. to Ignatius and Anna (Fomfer) Hubiak and lived most of her life in Rittman.
Surviving are a son, Carl (Celia) Maslak and a daughter-in-law, Ruth Maslak, all of Rittman; grandchildren, Nancy Lovrak and Dan Maslak; two great-grandsons and a great-great-grandson.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 a.m. Monday at St. Anne Catholic Church in Rittman. Fr. Philip P. Pritt will officiate, with burial in St. Anne Cemetery.
Friends may call Sunday from 6-8 p.m. at the Gillman Funeral Home in Rittman where a wake service will be held at 7:30 p.m.

Verneda Lozier
WOOSTER -- Verneda R. Lozier, 82, formerly of 8250 Blachleyville Road, passed away Thursday morning, March 8, 2001, at Heritage Park Nursing Center, Wooster.
Cremation has taken place. Memorial services will be Monday at 10 a.m. at Newkirk Cemetery with Pastor William H. Valentine officiating.
There will be no visitation. Custer-Glenn Funeral Home, Wooster, is handling arrangements.
Mrs. Lozier was born Feb. 7, 1919, in Loudonville to Charles and Clara Marie (Lifer) Stitzline and married George H. Lozier on Jan. 20, 1938. He passed away in 1992.
She is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, George J. and Janice Lozier of West Salem; a sister, Bernice Leach of Perrysville; three grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

Richard McComas
WEST SALEM -- Richard L. McComas, 66, of West Salem, died Thursday, March 8, 2001, at Horn's Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Wooster.
Graveside services will be Monday at 11 a.m. at Elmwood Cemetery in Lorain.
Friends may call Sunday from 6-8 p.m. at the Matteson Funeral Home in West Salem.
He was born Jan. 12, 1935, in Medina to Clarence and Ida (Mersing) McComas.
Surviving are his wife, Mary Ann (Biro) McComas, to whom he had been married 30 years; two daughters, Samantha McComas and Milinda McComas, both of Lorain; grandchildren; a brother, James McComas of Oregon; a half-sister, Sandy Klinesmith of Sheffield Lake and a half-brother, Max Schmidt of Medina.
