James Horst
DALTON -- James F. "Jim" Horst, 77, 313 Edgewood Drive, died Sunday, March 23, 2003, at his residence after a period of declining health.
Services will be Friday at 11 a.m. at Sonnenberg Mennonite Church near Kidron, with Phil Kanagy, Robert Yutzy and Bruce Hamsher officiating. Burial will be at Martins Mennonite Church Cemetery near Orrville.
Friends may call Thursday from 1-4 and 6-8 p.m. at Auble Funeral Home in Orrville, or one hour prior to the services at the church.
Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Wayne County, 2525-A Back Orrville Road, Wooster 44691; or The Mennonite Foundation, P.O. Box 483, Goshen, Ind. 46527.
Jim was born Oct. 13, 1925, in Orrville to A. Roy and Elizabeth (Lehman) Horst and attended Orrville schools. He had worked and lived in the Orrville and Dalton areas all of his life.
He worked for his father at Horst Machine & Auto Service in Orrville and continued as manager for Shafer Valve, when they purchased the business. In 1964, he left Shafer Valve and was the founder of J. Horst Mfg. Co. in Dalton, where he was president.
He was a member of Chestnut Ridge Mennonite Church, where he served as an usher.
Surviving are his wife, Ruth Horst, whom he married Oct. 14, 1945 in Dalton; children, Richard (Laurel) Horst of Orrville, Roland Horst and Lois (Paul) Berry, both of Dalton; grandchildren, Ron (Dana) Horst, Jerry Horst, Paul Horst Jr., Bonnie and Lisa Berry; a great-granddaughter, Marcia Horst; sisters, June Ramer of North Lawrence and Doris (Ralph) Winey of Smithville; and a brother, Morris Horst of Orrville.
His parents and an infant daughter died previously.

Harriette Kaser
TUCSON, Ariz. -- Harriette V. (Anderson) Kaser, 96, of Tucson, Ariz., formerly of Killbuck, died Saturday, March 22, 2003, after a brief illness.
Services will be Sunday at 1:30 p.m. at Killbuck First Church of Christ.
Burial will be at Killbuck Cemetery.
The family suggests contributions be made to a charity of the donor's choice.
She was born Aug. 15, 1906, in Killbuck to Guy and Vera (Stout) Anderson and was married to Paul Kaser for 57 years.
He died in 1996, and was a former Holmes County resident.
She was a graduate of Killbuck High School, Kent State University and The Ohio State University.
She had taught generations of Holmes County and other Ohio high school students in various subjects for more than 40 years, beginning in 1925 in a two-room school in Clark.
She was a coach of championship girls' basketball teams and drama productions.
She moved to Hilliard, and following several years' at Hilliard, retired to Arizona in 1971.
She was a member of the Order of Eastern Star for more than 50 years and the Daughters of the American Revolution.
During her years in the Columbus area, she excelled at golf and led her local women's golf association.
She has been a member of the Church of Christ since 1916.
Surviving are children, Paula (Wayne) Price of Powhattan, Va., Vera Marie "Bunny" (Ken) Badertscher of Tucson, Ariz., and Paul W. (Norma) Kaser of Fresno, Calif.; seven grandsons; three great-grandchildren; four nephews; and two nieces.
In addition to her husband, brothers, Bill and Herbert, a half-sister, Rhema (Fair) and half-brother, Telmar, died previously.

Brian Phillips
KILLBUCK -- Brian "Petey" Phillips, 29, of Killbuck, formerly of Holmesville, died Sunday morning, March 23, 2003, from injuries sustained in an automobile accident.
Services will be Thursday at 11 a.m. at Alexander Funeral Home, Millersburg, with the Rev. Brian Powell officiating. Burial will be at Prairie Township Cemetery, Holmesville.
Friends may call Wednesday from 6-9 p.m. at the funeral home.
The family suggests contributions be made to the Brian Phillips Memorial Fund, in care of Killbuck Savings Bank, 165 N. Main St., Killbuck 44637.
He was born Aug. 9, 1973, in Millersburg, to Stephen and Chris (Colich) Phillips.
He was a 1992 graduate of Waynedale High School and had worked at Premier Excavating in Holmesville.
He was baptized at Holmesville Church of Christ and was a member of Sons of the American Legion in Holmesville. He enjoyed hunting and fishing.
Surviving are his wife, Bobbie Lester of Killbuck; a son, Barry Phillips of Killbuck; Raven Wilcox of the home, whom he helped to raise and loved as his own; his father of Holmesville; his mother of Shreve; a sister, Lisa Kaser of Holmesville; paternal grandparents, Paul and Virginia Phillips of Holmesville; maternal grandmother, Jessie Colich of Shreve; nephews, David Garman of Loudonville, Connor Kaser and Codey Hershberger, both of Holmesville; and several aunts and uncles.
Maternal grandfather, Karl Colich and a maternal uncle, Michael Colich, died previously.

William Sigler
WADSWORTH -- William J. Sigler, 80, died Sunday, March 23, 2003, at Golden Leaf Nursing & Rehabilitation, after a lengthy illness.
He was the brother of Russell Sigler, Virginia Baker and Caroline Nalley, all of Creston.
Services will be Wednesday at 1:30 p.m. at Hilliard & Mullaney Funeral Home in Wadsworth, with the Rev. James D. Edwards officiating. Burial will be at Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery in Rittman.
Friends may call tonight (Tuesday) from 6-9 at the funeral home.
Memorial contributions may be made to Emanuel United Church of Christ, 16 Eastern Road, Doylestown 44230.
He was born in Easton and had made his home in Wadsworth since 1948. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II and was a foreman at Ohio Injector, retiring with 30 years of service. He also was an auctioneer.
He was a member of Emanuel United Church of Christ, Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1089 and American Legion Post 170.
Other survivors include his wife of 55 years, Iona Sigler; children, Carol (Jim) Doenges of Kankakee, Ill., Terry (Suzanne) Sigler of Moorsville, N.C., Robert (Pat) Sigler of Akron and Darrell (Roselyn) Whitmore of Elgin, Ill.; six grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.
Six brothers and a sister died previously.

Mary Alleshouse
MILLERSBURG -- Mary Alleshouse, 82, of Millersburg, formerly of Baltic and Farmerstown, died Monday, March 24, 2003, at Pomerene Hospital in Millersburg.
Services will be Thursday at 3 p.m. at Butler-Varns Funeral Home in Sugarcreek, with the Rev. Gary Yackey officiating. Burial will be at Farmerstown Cemetery.
Friends may call one hour prior to the services at the funeral home.
She was born May 18, 1920, in Holmes County to Joseph and Fannie (Middaugh) Alleshouse.
She was a member of Countryside Chapel.
Surviving is a sister, Martha Alleshouse of Millersburg.
An infant sister and brothers, John, David and Asa, died previously.

Evelyn Amstutz
DALTON -- Evelyn F. (Mackey) Amstutz, 92, formerly of West Schultz Street, died Monday, March 24, 2003, at Shady Lawn Health Care Community, Dalton, after a long period of declining health.
Private services will be held Thursday at Auble Funeral Home in Orrville, with Pastor Virginia Birks officiating. Burial will be at Newman Creek Cemetery near North Lawrence.
There will be no calling hours.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Dalton Presbyterian Church, 163 W. Main St., Dalton; Dalton Historical Society, P.O. Box 273, Dalton 44618; or to a charity of the donor's choice.
She was born July 30, 1910, near Orrville to Harry C. and Mary Alice (Rehm) Mackey and married Clarence V. "Jim" Amstutz on May 29, 1937 in Alliance. He survives.
She was a 1929 graduate of Orrville High School, attended Kent State University and was a graduate of Ashland University, with a bachelor's degree in elementary education. She began her 23 year teaching career in Baughman Township Schools and then taught third and fourth grades at Tuslaw Local Schools in Stark County, retiring in 1970.
She was a member of Dalton Presbyterian Church, where she was a Sunday school teacher for many years, The Wilderness Center, Wayne County and Dalton Historical Societies and Retired Teacher's Association.
Evelyn was an avid gardener and enjoyed many varieties of daffodils, which she graciously shared with family and many friends.
Surviving in addition to her husband, are a niece, Helen Chovan of Massillon; and many other nieces, nephews, grand-nieces and nephews.
A daughter, Joanne Maxine Amstutz, died in 1979. Her parents and a sister, Credith Stanford, also died previously.

Margaret Amstutz
NORTH CANTON -- Margaret M. Amstutz, 91, of North Canton, died Sunday, March 23, 2003, at St. Luke Lutheran Home in North Canton, after an extended illness.
Services will be today (Wednesday) at 11 at John Knox Presbyterian Church in North Canton, with the Rev. Douglas A. Patton officiating. Private burial will be at North Lawn Cemetery, Canton.
Friends may call today (Wednesday) from 10-11 at the church.
Arrangements are being handled by Spiker-Foster-Shriver Funeral Home in Canton.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to John Knox Presbyterian Church, 5155 Eastlake St., NW, North Canton 44720.
She was born in Dalton and had made her home in Canton since 1936. She was a bookkeeper for Jackson-Bayley Electric for 31 years and a member of John Knox Presbyterian Church.
Surviving are daughters, Lucille M. (Ira) Essner and LaGrace J. (Ramus) Moldovan, both of North Canton; grandchildren, Barbara and Neil Rupe, Jackie, Ira and Tim Essner, Cynthia and Brent Hopkins, Deborah Spitler and John Moldovan; great-grandchildren, Adam and Megan Rupe, Melissa Giovangnoll, Stephanie Miller, Matthew and Megan Spitler and Maxwell Moldovan.
Her husband, Clayton S. Amstutz, died in 1985. A brother, Cloyce I. Barkman, also died previously.

Lois Barney
WOOSTER -- Lois L. Barney, 64, of Wooster, passed away Monday evening, March 24, 2003, at Wooster Community Hospital, after a long illness.
Memorial services will be Friday at 2 p.m. at Custer-Glenn Funeral Home, Wooster, with the Rev. Dr. Claude L. McComas officiating. It was her wishes for cremation and private disposition of the cremains will be held at the convenience of the family.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Hospice of Wayne County, 2525-A Back Orrville Road, Wooster 44691.
She was born Dec. 3, 1938, in Shreve to Ralph and Dorotha (Sprankle) Plant and had made her home in Wayne County most of her life. She was a devoted homemaker and was past president and vice president of the council for Townsview Terrace Apartments in Wooster during 2002.
She had attended Westwood Baptist Church in Wooster and was a member of Wooster Moose and Wooster Eagles.
Lois enjoyed many types of crafts, painting, computer work and had a great sense of humor.
Surviving are children, Bryan (Lisa) Fawcett of Onalaska, Wis., Ronald (Teri) Fawcett of Rib Lake, Wis., Christopher (Patti) Fawcett of Medford, Wis., Curtis Fawcett and Leslie (John) Over, both of Wooster and Brenda Fawcett of Winona, Minn.; 16 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; brothers, Miles Plant of Lakeville and Dean Plant of Long Beach, Calif.; sisters, Nancy (Don) McLean of Canton and Phyllis (Tim) Adams of Montana; and a special friend, Charlie Hill of Wooster.
In addition to her parents, a son, Paul S. Fawcett and grandsons, Paul S. Fawcett II and Devan Fawcett, died previously.

Janet Featherstone
WOOSTER -- Memorial services for Janet Lee Featherstone, 49, of Wooster, will be Friday at 11 a.m. at United Methodist Church of Wooster, with the Revs. Diane Johnson and Walter Luke officiating.
Arrangements are being handled by McIntire, Davis & Greene Funeral Home in Wooster.
Those who wish may make contributions to Biblical Teaching Fellowship Scholarship Fund, 13741 Hollo Oval, Strongsville 44149; Wayne Center for the Arts, 237 S. Walnut St., Wooster 44691; or Wooster YMCA, 680 Woodland Ave., Wooster 44691.
She died Saturday, Feb. 22, 2003. A complete obituary appeared in The Daily Record Feb. 24.

Merle Kupchick
CRESTON -- Merle C. Kupchick, 88, of Creston, died Monday, March 24, 2003.
Services will be Friday at 1 p.m. at Waite & Son Funeral Home, Medina Chapel. Burial will be at Sunset Memorial Park in North Olmsted.
Friends may call two hours prior to the services.
Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Wayne County, 2525-A Back Orrville Road, Wooster 44691.
She was born in Trevorton, Pa., and had made her home in Medina, North Royalton and Wayne County. She was a homemaker.
Surviving are children, Nancy Papp of Creston and Donald (Joni) Kupchick Jr. of Senecaville; three grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and six great-great-grandchildren.
Her husband, Donald T. Kupchick Sr., a granddaughter, a great-granddaughter and a brother, Russell Baker, died previously.

Lula Prince
KILLBUCK -- Lula Maxine Prince, 76, of Killbuck, died Monday, March 24, 2003, at her residence.
Services will be Thursday at 11:30 a.m. at Killbuck United Methodist Church, with the Rev. James Cooper officiating. Burial will be at Killbuck Cemetery.
There will be no calling hours. Roberts Funeral Home, Sherwood Chapel, Wooster, is handling arrangements.
Memorial contributions may be made to Killbuck United Methodist Church, 410 N. Main St., Killbuck 44637; or to Hospice of Holmes County, 931 Wooster Road, Millersburg 44654.
She was born Jan. 20, 1927, in Killbuck to Frank C. and Mintie (Hall) Prince.
She was a graduate of Butler University, with a bachelor of arts in science and religion. She had worked at the former Semac Industries in Millersburg for 10 years, retiring in 1997, and was manager of a H & R Block office.
Brothers, Harry, Ralph and Frank E. Prince and a sister, Lena Keim, died previously.
