LODI -- Thelma M. Weaver, 76, of Lodi, died Friday, March 13 at Lodi Community Hospital. Services will be Wednesday at 11:30 a.m. at Parker & Son Funeral Home, Lodi with the Rev. David Howell officiating. Burial will be in New Philadelphia Cemetery. Friends may call two hours prior to the service on Wednesday. Memorial contributions may be made to Hope Lodge, 636 W. Lexington St., Baltimore, Md. 21201 or to Hope Lodge, 11432 Mayfield Road, Cleveland 44106-2364. Surviving in addition to her husband are a daughter, Mrs. Kevin (Noreen) Moser of Geneva, Ill.; two grandchildren; one sister, Mrs. Joe (Jenny) Mileti of Camarillo, Calif; and one brother, Glenn (Connie) Fisher of New Philadelphia.

WOOSTER -- Dale I. Kachner Sr., 68, of 902 Terminal St., died Friday, March 13, at his residence. Services will be Monday at 3 p.m. at Roberts Funeral Home in Wooster with the Rev. Donald Samples officiating. Burial will be at Sherwood Memorial Gardens. Friends may call two hours prior to the services. Surviving in addition to his wife are children, Dale Kachner Jr. of Lancaster, Texas, Mike Kachner of Akron, Mrs. Pat (Sue) Hall of Beloit, Steve Kachner of Ripley, Okla., and Lee Kachner of Atwater; five stepchildren, Darinda Spinks of Sebring, Wanda Casteel of Cleveland, Robyn Cottrell of Rittman, Tina Pavick of Cleveland and Crystal Wayne of Wooster; 24 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and one brother, Curtis Kachner of Malta.

FREDERICKSBURG -- Kendall M. Smith, 37, of Fredericksburg, died Thursday, March 12 at Wooster Community Hospital from injuries sustained in an auto accident. Services will be Monday at 7 p.m. at Smithville United Methodist Church with the Rev. Dr. David M. Oliver officiating. There will be no calling hours. Arrangements are being handled by Custer Funeral Home of Wooster. Memorial contributions may be made to Smithville United Methodist Church, 243 N. Milton St., Smithville 44677. Surviving in addition to his wife are three sons, Neil, Russell, and Aaron Smith, all of Ft. Thomas, Ky.; a daughter, Tabitha Houghton of Congress; his mother, Mary Lou Smith of Longview, Texas; and two brothers, Loren Smith of Longview, Texas, and Rod Smith of Waco, Texas.

Mae Hoysak
DALTON -- Mae (Geanneses) Hoysak, 78, of Dalton, died Saturday, March 14, 1998 at Shady Lawn Nursing Home. Funeral service will be Wednesday at 11 a.m. at Zak-Monbarren Funeral Home in Doylestown with Fr. Jerry F. Hall officiating. Burial at Chestnut Hill Cemetery. Friends may call Tuesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the American Lung Association. She was preceded in death by husband, Joseph in 1994 and is survived by son and daughter-in-law, Kenneth and Rosann Hoysak of Broadview Heights; daughter and son-in-law, Fran and Ron Fulton of Doylestown; four grandchildren, Kevin (Jennifer) Hoysak of Glenwillow, Kurt (Tina) Hoysak of Parma, Bridget and Dan Fulton, both of Akron and four great-grandchildren.

George Shupp
ORRVILLE -- George E. Shupp, 85, formerly of 1821 Crestview Drive, Orrville, died Friday, March 13, at Lincoln Manor Health Care Center in Orrville. Services will be Monday at 2 p.m. at Gresser Funeral Home in Orrville with the Rev. Randy Gehres officiating. Burial will be at Crown Hill Cemetery in Orrville. Friends may call one hour prior to services Monday at the funeral home. Surviving are his children and their spouses, James and Connie Shupp, Art "Butch" and Karen Shupp, Joan and William Stanford, Nancy and Joe Hranko and Jeannette Maiwurm, all of Orrville and Karen and Merle Grosjean of Kendallville, Ind.; 16 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren. In addition to his wife, a sister, Bertha Goudy, died previously.

CRESTON -- Shirley Jean Rook, 62, 104 Wayne Ave., died Friday evening, March 13, 1998 at Smithville Western Care Center, following a courageous fight with cancer. Private family services will be Monday at Creston United Methodist Church. Burial will be at Creston Maple Mound Cemetery. There will be no calling hours. Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Wayne County, 2525A Back Orrville Road, Wooster 44691 or to Creston Rescue Squad, P.O. Box 181, Creston 44217. Surviving in addition to her husband are daughter and son-in-law, Denise and Jim Wilson of Brunswick; son and daughter-in-law, Kim and Sue Rook of Wooster; grandchildren, Ben, Adam, Lacye, Ian and Seth; her mother, Irene Frary of Wooster; brothers and sisters-in-law, William and Betty Frary of Big Prairie and Richard and Carol Frary of Rittman; a brother, George Frary of Wooster and a sister and brother-in-law, Pearl and Dave Hall of Dayton.

DUNDEE -- Melvin L. Yoder, 83, 3021 County Road 200, died Friday, March 13, at his residence after an extended illness. Services will be Tuesday at 9 a.m. at the Uriah Yoder residence, 3019 County Road 200, with Bishop Ivan Coblentz officiating. Burial will be at the Yoder Cemetery, Paint Township, Holmes County. Friends may call anytime at the residence. Spidell Funeral Home in Mount Eaton is handling arrangements. Surviving in addition to his wife are children, Uriah, Abe and Levi Yoder, all of Dundee, Roy Yoder and Melvin Yoder Jr., both of Lakeville, Mrs. Floyd (Emma) Schlabach and Mrs. Aden (Elva) Schrock, both of Bellville, Katie and Ella Yoder, both of the home, Mrs. Harvey (Anna) Kemp of Wisconsin, Mrs. Christ ( Ida) Kemp of Minnesota, Mrs. Eli (Mary) Yoder of Big Prairie and Mrs. Aden (Elizabeth) Mast of Fredericksburg; 102 grandchildren; 76 great-grandchildren; and brothers, Joe, Menno and Atlee Yoder, all of Dundee, Aden Yoder of Wisconsin and Jonas Yoder of Fredericksburg.

DUNDEE -- Lester W. Sampsel, 73, of Dundee, died Saturday, March 14, at Union Hospital in Dover, from cancer. Services will be Tuesday at 11 a.m. at Butler-Varns Funeral Home in Sugarcreek, with the Revs. LuAnn McIntosh and Daniel Legg officiating. Burial will be at Dundee Cemetery, where military rites will be conducted by Sugarcreek American Legion Homer Weiss Post 494. Friends may call today (Monday) from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to Dundee United Methodist Church; or Wayne Township Fire Department. Surviving in addition to his wife are children and their spouses, Duane L. and Jean Sampsel and Vicki and Don Youngblood, all of Dundee; six granddaughters; brothers, Elvern (Jean) Sampsel of Navarre and Arden "Art" (Marjean) Sampsel of Massillon; and sisters, Mrs. Glen (Doris) Wentling of Navarre, Mrs. Les (Marjorie) Herman of Dundee and Mrs. Harry "Spud" (Shirley) Griffith of Beach City.

MILLERSBURG -- Sarah M. Yoder, infant daughter of Mose and Edna Yoder, 5415 State Route 557, was stillborn Monday, March 16, at Joel Pomerene Memorial Hospital in Millersburg. Services will be Tuesday at 1 p.m. at the residence, with Bishop Albert N. Yoder officiating. Burial will be at the Noah N. Miller Cemetery. Arrangements are being handled by Alexander Funeral Home, Millersburg. Surviving in addition to her parents are brothers and sisters, Jacob M., Amos M., Mary Ann, Jeffrey M., Erma M., Wilma M., Clara M., Barbara M., Sussie M., Anna Mae and David M., all of the home; paternal grandparents, David and Mary Ann Yoder of Millersburg; and maternal grandparents, Jacob N. and Mary Ann Yoder of Fresno.

BIG PRAIRIE -- Robert J. Hunter Sr., 62, of Big Prairie, died Sunday afternoon, March 15, at Alliance Community Hospital. Services will be Thursday at 11 a.m. at Alexander Funeral Home, Millersburg, with the Rev. Raymond Grudier officiating. Burial will be at Blissfield Cemetery. Friends may call Wednesday from 7-9 p.m. at the funeral home. Surviving are children, Lisa Shepler and Tim Hunter, both of Killbuck, Robert K. Hunter of Glenmont, Cindy Asche and Rob Hunter, both of Millersburg, Jeff Hunter of Wooster and Randy Hunter of Berlin; stepchildren, Dave Tharp, Jackie West and Aimee Crowthers, all of Killbuck; 11 grandchildren; five stepgrandchildren; brothers, Gene Albertson of Folsom, Calif., Charles, Raymond and Earl Hunter, all of Orrville; and sisters, Dorothy Miller of Wooster and Bonnie Nichols of Orrville.

Luella Martin
LOUDONVILLE -- Luella M. Martin, 81, 630 Mill Road, died Sunday afternoon, March 15, at Grant Medical Center in Columbus, after a brief illness. Graveside services will be Wednesday at 10:30 a.m. at Loudonville Cemetery. There will be no calling hours. Byerly-Lindsey Funeral Home in Loudonville is handling arrangements. Memorial contributions may be made to Ashland County Humane Society, 1710 Garfield Ave., Ashland 44805. Surviving are children and their spouses, Jeffrey and Bobbie Martin of Germantown, Md., Juanita and David Finley and Karen and Robert Schultz, all of Ashland and Norma and Alex Johnson of Bremerton, Wash.; nine grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and a sister, Pauline Rush of Medina.

Mary Martin
SARASOTA, Fla. -- Mary Ann (Troyer) Martin, 66, of Sarasota, Fla., formerly of Wooster, died Thursday, March 12. There will be no services or calling hours. Surviving are a son, Eric Martin of Mentor; and a brother, Allen Troyer Jr. of Wooster.

Melvin Kurtz
LOUISVILLE -- Melvin H. Kurtz, 73, went to be with the Lord Sunday, March 15, 1998, at J.T. Nist Health Care Facility in Louisville. He had been a resident there after suffering from a stroke four years ago in January 1994. Services will be Wednesday at 10:30 a.m. at Hartville Mennonite Church, 1470 Smith-Kramer St., Hartville, with pastors Dave Hall, Henry Shrock and Joe Yoder officiating. Burial will be at Walnut Creek Cemetery. Friends may call tonight (Tuesday) from 7-9 at the church, or one hour prior to the services at the church. Arrangements are being handled by Arnold Funeral Home in Hartville. Surviving are two brothers and five sisters-in-law, Henry and wife Sara Kurtz of Orlando, Fla., Enos and wife Nettie Kurtz of Hartville, Freda (Mrs. Joe) Kurtz of Plain City, Sara (Mrs. Clarence) Kurtz of Sarasota, Fla., and Miriam (Mrs. Ervin) Kurtz of Goshen, Ind.; and 26 nieces and nephews.

Earl Vore II
YOUNGSTOWN -- Earl Wade Vore II, 23, died Sunday evening, March 15, at Northside Medical Center in Youngstown, after a long illness. He was formerly of 631 High St., Wooster. Memorial services will be Friday at 2 p.m. at Custer Funeral Home, Wooster, with the Rev. Melvin C. Browning officiating. Cremation has taken place and a private family service to inter the cremains will be held at Sherwood Memorial Gardens at a later date. Friends may call one hour prior to the services at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to help defray expenses to the estate of Earl Wade Vore II, in care of Custer Funeral Home Inc., 2284 Benden Drive, Wooster 44691. Surviving are his mother and father, Patricia and Don E. Post of Wooster; a brother, James Cramer Vore of Marion; a sister, Mrs. Tracy (Maririta D.) Mayle of Canton; and a stepsister, Mrs. Stan (Tamara J.) Stinemiller of Greeley, Colo.

Surviving are a son, Gomer Reichard of Cleveland; many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Margaret Scherer
WOOSTER -- Margaret E. Scherer, 70, 224 Ihrig Ave., Wooster, died Saturday, March 14, at her home. Private services will be held. The Rev. John Mueller will officiate. There will be no calling hours. McIntire, Davis & Greene Funeral Home in Wooster, is handling arrangements. Surviving in addition to her husband of Millersburg, are children, Gail A. Troyer of Wooster and Keith L. Scherer of the home; a grandson; and sisters, Mrs. William (Jean) Hatfield of Colorado Springs, Colo., and Pat Field of Toledo.

Lucille Ballou
ASHLAND -- Lucille M. Ballou, 75, 1110 Summit Drive, died Sunday, March 15, at her home after a long illness. She was the mother and mother-in-law of Barbara 'Bobbi' and Sheff Sweet of Polk. Services will be Wednesday at 11 a.m. at Grace Brethren Church in Ashland, with the Rev. Norm Johnson officiating. Burial will be at Ashland County Memorial Park. Friends may call tonight (Tuesday) from 7-9 at Heyl Funeral Home in Ashland. Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of North Central Ohio; or to Grace Brethren Church in Ashland. Surviving in addition to her daughter and son-in-law, are her husband, Richard Ballou; another daughter, Margaret L. 'Peggy' (Mark) Schar of Ashland; five stepchildren; 15 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and two sisters.

Commodore Johnston Jr.
BUTLER -- Commodore W. Johnston Jr., 77, 3893 Tugend Road, died Monday, March 16, at his home. Services will be Thursday at 1 p.m. at Byerly-Lindsey Funeral Home in Loudonville, where military services will be conducted by the Veterans of Foreign Wars and American Legion. Friends may call one hour prior to the services at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to Commodore W. Johnston Jr. Memorial Fund. Surviving are his fiancee, Lola Taylor of Butler; and an aunt. A son, Commodore Walker Johnston III, died in 1997.

MILLERSBURG -- Judy Lattimer, 53, of Millersburg, died Tuesday morning, March 17, at her home. Memorial services will be Friday at 11 a.m. at Holmesville Church of Christ, with the Rev. Donald Campbell officiating There will be no calling hours. Alexander Funeral Home, Millersburg, is handling arrangements. Memorial contributions may be made to the Judy Lattimer Memorial Fund, in care of Holmesville Church of Christ, P.O. Box 146, Holmesville 44633. Surviving are sisters, Juanita Johnson of Killbuck and Barbara Foreman of Layland. Seven brothers and sisters died previously.

FOLEY, Ala. -- Eva A. Fites, 84, of Foley, Ala., formerly of Wooster, died Monday, March 9. Graveside services will be Friday at 2 p.m. at Killbuck Cemetery, with the Rev. David Carrick officiating. There will be no calling hours. Alexander Funeral Home, Millersburg, is handling arrangements. Surviving are brothers, Gordon Hogberg of Cadillac, Mich., and Alvin Hogberg of Fife Lake, Mich.; and a sister, Norma Randles of Millersburg.

Ben Carney
FREDERICKSBURG -- Ben W. Carney, 83, 7313 Hoy Road, Fredericksburg, formerly of Wooster, died Monday, March 16. Services will be Thursday at 10 a.m. at Roberts Funeral Home, Wooster, with the Rev. John Weaver officiating. Burial will be at Sherwood Memorial Gardens, where military rites will be held. There will be no calling hours. Surviving are a stepson, Donald and wife, Patty Hudson of Shreve; seven grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren.

Eugene Clark
WESTFIELD CENTER -- Eugene N. Clark, 77, of Westfield Center, died Friday, March 13, in Sun City, Ariz. He was a former principal of Cloverleaf Senior High School. Memorial services will be Friday, April 24, at 1 p.m. at LeRoy United Methodist Church, Westfield Center, with the Rev. Larry Black officiating. Burial will be at LeRoy Cemetery, Westfield Center. There will be no calling hours. Armstrong Funeral Home in Seville is handling arrangements. Memorial contributions may be made to LeRoy United Methodist Church. Surviving in addition to his wife are sons, Kenneth (Gayle) Clark of Appleton, Wis., and John Clark of Anaheim Hills, Calif.; and two granddaughters.

WOOSTER -- Lola J. Chenevey, 90, of Wooster, formerly of Apple Creek, died Tuesday evening, March 17, at Horn Nursing Home in Wooster after a period of declining health. Services will be Friday at 11 a.m. at Spidell Funeral Home in Mount Eaton, with the Rev. John Mueller officiating. Burial will be at St. Genevieve Church Cemetery in Calmoutier. Friends may call one hour prior to the services at the funeral home. Surviving are nieces and nephews.

Howard Schrock
WOOSTER -- Howard Junior Schrock, 65, 2457 Pleasant Ridge Road, Wooster, died Monday, March 16 in Wooster. Graveside services will be Thursday at 11 a.m. at Apple Creek Cemetery, with the Rev. Roy V. Wagner officiating. There will be no calling hours. McIntire, Davis & Greene Funeral Home in Wooster, is handling arrangements. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Peter's United Church of Christ, 68 W.
