INDIANAPOLIS -- George Edward Evans, 47, of 1450 Lancashire Court, died Wednesday, Jan. 27, at his home. Services will be Monday at 10:30 a.m. at St. James Episcopal Church in Wooster with the Rev. Evelyn Manzella officiating. Burial will be at Crown Hill Cemetery in Orrville where military services will be held. Friends may call Sunday from 2-4 p.m. at Gresser Funeral Home, Orrville. He was born Aug. 22, 1951 in Akron to Orphy B. and Marjorie (Knox) Evans and married Debra Siebert on Nov. 27, 1998. She survives. Surviving in addition to his wife are children, David Matthew and Bethany Evans, both of Wooster; stepchildren, Scott and Ashley Siebert, both of Carmel, Ind.; his mother, Marjorie Evans of Wooster; brothers, John and William Evans, both of Wooster, and David Evans of Cincinnati, and a sister, Joan Stanford of Wooster.

Ethel Speck
GLENMONT -- Ethel M. Speck, 90, of Glenmont, died Friday afternoon, Jan. 29, at the Holmes County Home, after an extended illness. Graveside services will be Monday at 1 p.m. at Wolf Creek Cemetery, Killbuck, with the Rev. Jacob "Jake" Rupple officiating. There will be no calling hours. Alexander Funeral Home, Millersburg, is handling arrangements. Memorial contributions may be made to a charity of the donor's choice. She was born Aug. 9, 1908 in Richland Township, Holmes County, to Linas and Abby (Roby) Mellor and married Ralph M. Speck. He died previously. Surviving are several nieces and nephews, great and great-great-nieces and nephews and sisters-in-law.

CHATHAM -- Lester E. Baker, 67, of Chatham, died Friday, Jan. 29, at his home after a 10-month illness. Services will be Tuesday at 11 a.m. at Parker & Son Funeral Home in Lodi, with the Rev. Bernell Green officiating. Burial will be at Chatham Cemetery. Friends may call Monday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at the funeral home. He was born May 10, 1931 in Logan, W.Va., to John and Vera (McClellan) Baker and married Kathy Burns. She survives. Surviving in addition to his wife are children, Mrs. Richard (Tracy) VanAtta of Lodi, Mrs. Kenneth (Sharon) Lowery and Pamela Watts, both of Tennessee, Mrs. Dan (Debbie) Gammell of Chatham, Mrs. Glenn (Marvine) Miller of LaGrange, Ralph Smith of Spencer and Ira and wife, Linda Smith of Medina; 10 grandchildren; sisters, Mrs. Meridith (Janet) Black of West Hamlin, W.Va., and Mrs. Ken (Carol) Putnam of Concord; and brothers, Russell and wife Lorena Baker of Clarksburg, W.Va., Wetzel Baker of Big Springs, W.Va., Charles and wife, Pauline Baker of Fayetteville, N.C., Cecil and wife Mary Jo Baker of Vinton and George and wife, Nancy Baker of Mentor.

Stanley Dewey
ASHLAND -- Dr. Stanley E. Dewey, Professor Emeritus of Ashland University, died Saturday morning, Jan. 30, 1999, at Samaritan Hospital in Ashland. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Tuesday at 10 a.m. at St. Edward Parish, with Father James Cassidy as celebrant. Burial will be at Ashland Cemetery, where full military services will be conducted by the Ashland County Joint Veterans Council. Friends may call Monday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at Van Hove Funeral Home in Ashland, where the rosary will be held at 7:30 p.m. Surviving are his wife, Betty Ford Martin Dewey, whom he married March 1, 1984; a daughter and son-in-law, Peggy and Tim Opatken of Bucyrus, a son, Stanley Michael Dewey and fiancee, Carolyn Beddow of Ashland and a son and daughter-in-law, Joseph Owen and Julie Dewey of Windber, Pa.; grandchildren, Carolyn and Mark Dewey, Eric, Doug and Alyssa Opatken; a stepdaughter, Lauren Martin of Canberra, Australia, and stepsons, William Martin, Charles and wife, Nancy Martin and James and wife, Mary Martin, all of California, Sean and wife, Rosalind Martin of St. Louis, and Ron and wife, Darlene Martin of Poland; step-grandchildren, John, Joey, Devin, Ashley, Taylor, Hillary and Johnny Martin. His first wife, Dorothy (McCloskey) Dewey, died in 1981.

Services will be Monday at 11 a.m. at Custer Funeral Home, Wooster, with the Rev. Dan Manley officiating. Private burial will be at Crown Hill Memorial Park, Twinsburg. Friends may call one hour prior to the services at the funeral home. She was born May 15, 1918 in Curtain, W.Va., to Russell G. and Clara (Knicely) Hudkins and married Merrill W. Fair in 1960 in Navarre. He died previously. Surviving are children and their spouses, Charles E. "Chuck" and Cyndi Schultz of Worthington, G. Thomas and Patricia Schultz of Concord, Dannis R. Robert Berg
DALTON -- Robert L. Berg, 71, of Dalton, died Friday, Jan. 29, 1999, at Dunlap Memorial Hospital in Orrville, after a brief illness. Services will be Tuesday at 11 a.m. at Cornerstone Community Church in Dalton, with the Rev. Timothy Hull officiating. Burial will be at Dalton Cemetery. Friends may call Monday from 6-9 p.m. at Zak-Monbarren Funeral Home in Dalton, or one hour prior to the services at the church. Berg was born Jan. 12, 1928 in Dalton to Grover L. and Marietta (Schwartz) Berg and married W. Kathleen Fisher on June 15, 1947. She died Sept. 6, 1988. Surviving are children, Patrick and Robyn Holbert, Mark and Connie Berg and Mike Berg, all of Dalton; grandsons, Ryan and Seth Berg, Scott and wife, Susie Berg. He also leaves to mourn, a dear friend, Helen Hignight.

MILLERSBURG -- Janet T. Reed, 66, of Millersburg, died Friday, Jan. 29, 1999, at her home. Private family services will be held, with the Rev. Tom McFarren officiating. She was born May 5, 1932 in Bedford to Theodore B. and Gladys (Burkett) Thomas and married Rodney Reed. He died previously. Surviving are children and their spouses, Lisa and David Chmielewski of Millersburg and Brian H. and Barbara Reed of North Royalton; grandchildren, Evan T. Chmielewski, Bradley H. and Brenton T. Reed; her mother of Hudson; and sisters, Joan T. Beyer of Berea and Joyce T. Gardner of Twinsburg.

FREDERICKSBURG -- Dan J.L. Schlabach, 78, 3710 Holmes County Road 200, died early this morning, Feb. 1, at Joel Pomerene Memorial Hospital in Millersburg. Services will be Wednesday at 9 a.m. at the Mose Weaver residence, 8781 Township Road 656, Fredericksburg, with Bishop Eli A. Mast officiating. Burial will be at the Schlabach Cemetery, Paint Township, Holmes County. Friends may call anytime today after 4 p.m. at the Schlabach residence. Spidell Funeral Home in Mount Eaton is handling arrangements. He was born Oct. 15, 1920, in Holmes County to John and Lizzie (Weaver) Schlabach and married Emma Mast on Jan. 1, 1942. She survives. Surviving in addition to his wife are children, Elizabeth Schlabach of Sarasota, Fla., Mrs. Joe (Mary) Hostetler, Mrs. Mose (Arie) Weaver, and Mrs. Roy (Ada Mae) Kauffman, all of Fredericksburg, Mrs. Aaron (Susan) Fisher Jr. of Pennsylvania, Mrs. William (Elsie) Yoder and Mrs. Lester (Esther) Weaver, both of Dundee and Aden and wife, Barbara, Schlabach of the home; 32 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; sisters, Mrs. Levi (Mary) Hershberger and Lydia Schlabach, both of Fredericksburg; and a brother, Wyman Schlabach of Millersburg.

Kevin Swinehart
MILLERSBURG -- Kevin Dekota Swinehart, 3-month-old son of Brian Swinehart and Chrystal Wagner, 10105 County Road 320, died Saturday morning, Jan. 30, 1999, at Children's Hospital in Columbus. Services will be Wednesday at 2 p.m. at Alexander Funeral Home, Millersburg, with the Rev. Gary Pettyjohn officiating. Burial will be at Oak Grove Cemetery, Shreve. Friends may call one hour prior to the services at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to the Kevin Dekota Swinehart Memorial Fund, in care of Commercial & Savings Bank, 6 W. Ralph Shaffer Sr.
WOOSTER -- Ralph H. Shaffer Sr., 78, 3783 Friendsville Road, Suite 33, died Sunday, Jan. 31, at Smithville-Western Care Center. Graveside services will be Tuesday at 2 p.m. at Sherwood Memorial Gardens, Wooster, with the Rev. John Weaver officiating. Roberts Funeral Home, Wooster, is handling arrangements. Memorial contributions may be made to Ohio Genealogical Society, P.O. Box 2625, Mansfield 44906-0625. He was born Oct. 19, 1920 in Brimfield to Carl and Margaret (Lepper) Shaffer and married Ida Mae Lance in 1941. She died in 1989. He then married Jean Marie Peppard on July 6, 1990. She survives. Surviving in addition to his wife are children, Mrs. Harry (Laura) Anderson of Arizona, Mrs. Carl (Sally) Medure of West Salem, Mrs. Karl (Diann) Fieger of Latonia, Ky., Charyl Knuff of Iowa and Ralph Shaffer Jr. of Homerville; seven stepchildren; four granddaughters; 16 step-granddaughters; six step great-granddaughters; and a brother, Glen of Wickliffe.

Willie Lester
DANVILLE -- Willie J. Lester, 49, of South Richard Street, died Saturday, Jan. 30, at his residence. He was the brother of Robert L. Lester of Killbuck. Services will be Tuesday at 1 p.m. at Fischer Funeral Home in Danville. Burial will be at Amity Cemetery. Friends may call tonight (Monday) from 6-8 p.m. at the funeral home, or until time of services. He was born Sept. 15, 1949 in Garden Creek, Va., to Lewis T. and Ada V. (Helton) Lester. Surviving in addition to his brother are two other brothers, Larry D. and Otis L. Lester, both of Howard; and sisters, Shirley Buryess and Linda Allison, both of Mount Vernon.

Velma Burgett
SHREVE -- Velma Marie (Douglass) Burgett, 208 South St., went to be with the Lord on Saturday, Jan. 30, 1999. Services will be Wednesday at 11 a.m. at Nashville Church of Christ, with the Rev. Dan Kirtlan officiating. Burial will be at Nashville Cemetery. Friends may call Tuesday from 7-9 p.m. at Alexander Funeral Home, Millersburg, or one hour prior to the services at the church. The family suggests memorial contributions be made to Nashville Church of Christ Youth Program, P.O. Box 414, Nashville 44661. She was born Jan. 7, 1911 in Wayne County to Arthur and Sophronia (Dilyard) Douglas and married Millard Burgett on Dec. 24, 1936. They had celebrated 62 years of marriage in December 1988. Surviving in addition to her husband, Millard, Velma is survived by her children and their spouses. They include Frank and Sharon Burgett and Carol and Paul Towner, all of Millersburg, Betty and John Brady of Nashville and Larry and Maxine Burgett of Canton; 12 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; sisters, Irene Scott and Hazel Nist, both of Canton; and nieces and nephews.

Arthur 'Frog' Carr
WOOSTER -- Arthur C. "Frog" Carr, 64, 2030 W. Hutton Road, died Sunday, Jan. 31, at his home. Services will be Wednesday at 2 p.m. at McIntire, Davis & Greene Funeral Home in Wooster, with the Rev. Ken Peterson officiating. Burial will be at Wooster Cemetery. Friends may call Tuesday from 7-9 p.m. at the funeral home. Those who wish may make contributions to Hospice of Wayne County, 2525-A Back Orrville Road, Wooster 44691. He was born Nov. 12, 1934 in Fredericksburg to Albert and Edith (Martin) Carr Sr. and married Patricia Dye on Aug. 29, 1971. She survives. Surviving in addition to his wife are children and their spouses, Deborah and Lindsay Chadwick of Huntington Beach, Calif., Jeffrey Carr of Wooster, Vernon and Reginia Torrence of Lexington, S.C., and Rebecca and Mark Cunningham of Shreve; six grandchildren; sisters and their spouses, Betty and Edward Bill of Parma, Joann and Roy Plant and Linda and Harold Alexander, all of Fredericksburg and Phyllis and Bob Powell of Shreve; and brothers and their spouses, Richard and Winnie Carr of Englewood, Fla., Lawrence and Betty Carr of Fredericksburg and Raymond Carr of Wooster.

Russell Schmollinger
LOMBARD, Ill. -- Russell Schmollinger, 82, of Lexington Square, Lombard, Ill., formerly of Creston, died Saturday, Jan. 30, at Good Samaritan Hospital in Wheaton, Ill., after an extended illness. Burial will be in Glen Ellen, Ill. Brust Funeral Home in Lombard, Ill., is handling arrangements. He was born in Rittman to Herman and Ada (Forrer) Schmollinger. Surviving are his wife, Hazel (Reese) Schmollinger, whom he married in September 1934; daughters, Mrs. Albert (Tania) Mitton of Wheaton, Ill., and Mrs. Kenneth (Sherry) James of Cotto de Caza, Calif.; five grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; a sister, Mrs. Edward (Nylah) Landry of Wooster; and many nieces, nephews and cousins in the Wayne County area.

Pamela Moore-Deel
CINCINNATI -- Pamela Ann Moore-Deel, 50, 301 Garfield Place, died Saturday, Jan. 30, in Mercy Hospital South in Fairfield, after a lengthy illness. Services will be Thursday at 1 p.m. at Byerly-Lindsey Funeral Home in Loudonville, with the Rev. David S. Sipes officiating. Burial will be at Pioneer Cemetery, Lake Township, Ashland County (near McZena). Friends may call Wednesday from 7-9 p.m. at the funeral home. Surviving are children, Jefferey P. Deel of Columbus and Wendie Deel of Ashland; three grandsons; her mother of Cincinnati; and a brother, Barry Moore of California.

Hazel Watson
WOOSTER -- Hazel E. Watson, 86, 4134 Shelby Circle, died Monday, Feb. 1, 1999, at Smithville-Western Care Center. Services will be Friday at 11 a.m. at Grace Brethren Church, Wooster, with Pastor Robert Fetterhoff officiating. Private burial will be at Sherwood Memorial Gardens, prior to the services at the church. Friends may call Thursday from 5-7 p.m. at Roberts Funeral Home, Wooster, or one hour prior to the services at the church. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to American Bible Society, P.O. Box 98010, Washington, D.C. 20090; or Brethren Sharing Fund, in care of Grace Brethren Church, 1924 Burbank Road, Wooster 44691. She was born Feb. 18, 1912 in East Prairie, Mo., to Otis and Anna (Elam) Boyd and married Stanley Arthur Watson on Aug. 29, 1942. He survives and they were married for 56 years. Surviving in addition to her husband, are children, James Watson of Greenville, N.C., Louise Watson of Stillwater, Minn., Carol and husband, Roy, Smith of Denver and Thomas and wife, Nancy, Watson of Thousand Oaks, Calif.; grandchildren, Alicia and Adam Watson; sisters and brothers, Gladys Boyd and Raymond Boyd, both of Springfield, Ill., Merle Kenny of Prescott, Ariz., and Robert Boyd of San Diego.

Cora Keller
MASSILLON -- Cora E. Keller, 89, of Massillon, died Sunday afternoon, Jan. 31, at Massillon Community Hospital, after a brief illness. She is survived by several relatives in the Wayne County area. Services will be Wednesday at 1 p.m. at Arnold-Lynch Funeral Home in Massillon, with the Rev. Dr. Herbert Dymale officiating. Burial will be at Sunset Hills Burial Park, Canton. Friends may call tonight (Tuesday) from 6-8 at the funeral home, or one hour prior to the services. She was born March 2, 1909 in Massillon to James and Cora Lindsey and married Russell Keller. He died in 1983. Surviving is a son, Roger R. Keller of the home.

RITTMAN -- Edna Jean Bing, 55, 9986 Sterling Road, died Tuesday, Feb. 2, at her home. Services will be Friday at 11 a.m. at Gillman Funeral Home in Rittman, with the Rev. James R. McComas officiating. Burial will be at Rittman Cemetery. Friends may call Thursday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to Canaan Freewill Baptist Church, 12723 Cleveland Road, Creston 44217. She was born Jan. 23, 1944 in Massillon to George and Martha (Tenley) Bachman and married Clovis Bing on Feb. 3, 1962. He survives. Surviving in addition to her husband, are children and their spouses, Kevin and Ellen Bing of Seville, Randy Bing of Rittman and Angela and Charlie Dingess of Rittman; five grandchildren; brothers, Robert Bachman of Largo, Fla., Ralph Bachman of San Clemente, Calif., and Gary Bachman of Rittman; and a sister, Judy Berkey of Wooster.
