BERLIN -- Mary Weaver, 75, of 5461 Maple St., Berlin, Ohio, went home to be with the Lord on Friday morning, Feb. 5, 1999, at her residence, following a brief illness. Funeral services will be 11 a.m. on Monday at the Berlin Christian Fellowship with the Revs. John Schrock, Robert Lang, and Dave Stutzman officiating. Burial will be at the Berlin Cemetery. Friends may call from 2-4 and 6-9 p.m. on Sunday at Alexander Funeral Home in Millersburg, Ohio. She was born Aug. 12, 1923 in Holmes County and was the daughter of William J. and Lucinda (Hostetler) Kandel. On Nov. 9, 1943, she married Levi "Lip" Weaver and he preceded her in death on Aug. 3, 1992. Surviving are her eight children, William D. of Washington Court House, Marion D. of Holmesville, Leroy E. of Millersburg, Mrs. Owen (Sue) Troyer of Sugarcreek, Mrs. Keith (Arlene) Beam of Vienna, Va., Shirley Miller of Berlin, Betty Hochstetler of Dover, and Mrs. Junior (Jennie) Raber of Trail; 19 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; two brothers, Paul of Kidron and Vernon of Fredericktown, and two sisters, Alta Kandel of Berlin and Sue Speelman of Wooster.

Katharyn Smedley
SMITHVILLE -- Katharyn L. Smedley, 83, of 456 S. Summit St., passed away, Thursday afternoon, Feb. 4, at Brenn-Field Nursing Center, Orrville, following a long a long illness. Funeral services will be Monday at 2 p.m. at Custer Funeral Home, Wooster, with the Rev. Theodore H. Rust officiating. A private burial will take place at Apple Creek Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home one hour prior to services. Memorial contributions may be made in lieu of flowers to St. Paul's Lutheran Church Bldg. Fund, 292 E. Main St., Smithville, OH 44677. Mrs. Smedley was born Jan. 17, 1916 in West Alexander, Pa. to Isaac and Hortense (Hertig) Lawton and has lived in the Wayne County area for most of her life. She married Lester L. Smedley on July 5, 1944 in Apple Creek. He survives. In addition to her husband, she is survived by two sons, Robert L. (Judy) Smedley of Fredericksburg, and Ronald D. Smedley of Smithville; a brother, William Lawton of Lodi; a sister, Mrs. Louis Comly of Wooster; a half-brother, Isaac Lawton, Jr. of North Carolina, and two half-sisters, Rebecca Stull of Wooster and Maloah Palmer of Medina County.

J. Henry Horst
WEST SALEM -- J. Henry Horst, 79, 8605 Matty Road, died Friday evening, Feb. 5, 1999, of a heart attack at Wooster Community Hospital. Services will be Tuesday at 10:30 a.m. at the Chester Mennonite Church with Pastor Willis Horst officiating. Burial will be at Eight Square Cemetery. Friends may call Monday from 2-4 and 6-9 p.m. at the McIntire, Davis & Greene Funeral Home in Wooster. Those who wish may contribute to The Mennonite Gospel Mission to Haiti, c/o Kenneth Weaver, 6709 W. Smithville Western Road, Wooster 44691, in his memory. Surviving are his wife Esther Knopp Horst, to whom he had been married 53 years; children, Mrs. Everett (Naomi) Lehman of Columbiana, Lloyd and Carol Horst of West Salem, Mrs. Max (Pauline) Beachy of Baltic and Leona Horst of West Salem; grandchildren, Joseph and Carlyn and Stephen Lehman, Ethan and Jason Horst, Kevin, Brent and Sara Beachy; a sister, Mrs. Howard (Elizabeth) Beck of Carey and nieces and nephews in Canada as well as locally.

Paula Cook
ORRVILLE -- Paula Cook, 58, 128 West Oak St., died Friday, Feb. 5, 1999 at the Cleveland Clinic, following a period of declining health. She had been the recipient of a lung transplant at the Cleveland Clinic in 1995. Mass of Christian Burial will be Tuesday at 11 a.m. at St. Agnes Catholic Church in Orrville with the Rev. Paul Wysocki officiating. Burial will be at Crown Hill Cemetery in Orrville. Friends may call Monday from 7-9 p.m. at Auble Funeral Home in Orrville. A Christian Wake Service will be Monday evening at 8:30 p.m. at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Lung Association of Ohio, Akron/Canton Area Branch, 1300 Christmas Seal Drive, NW, Canton 44709. Surviving are daughters and sons-in-law, Kelly and Tim Ullum of Massillon, Karen and Rob Baumgartner of Orrville, Anne and Richard Lester of Apple Creek and a daughter, Tracey Cook of Orrville; 11 grandchildren; her former husband, Dr. Bobby G. Cook of Clinton; three sisters, Ann Winkelman and Barb Shuttleworth, both of St. Charles, Mo. and Jane Flanikan of Garland, Texas and a brother, Mark Koupal of St. Louis.

WADSWORTH -- Kenneth I. Lecky, 91, died Saturday, Feb. 6, 1999, at Sterling Oaks Assisted Living in Wadsworth. Services will be Wednesday at 11 a.m. at the Hilliard Cox Mullaney Funeral Home in Wadsworth with the Rev. James D. Foster officiating. Burial will be at Woodlawn Cemetery. Friends may call Tuesday from 7-9 p.m. at the funeral home, where Wadsworth Chapter No. 385 F&AM will conduct a Masonic service at 7:30 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to Tri-County Hospice, Wadsworth United Methodist Church or Steiner Youth Center. Surviving are son and daughter-in-law, Dean and Jackie Lecky of Wadsworth, daughter and son-in-law, Bonnie and William Crumley of Wadsworth; four grandchildren; three great-grandchildren and a sister, Edith Herman of Sarasota, Fla.

Dorothy Armbrecht
MILLERSBURG -- Dorothy M. Armbrecht, 85, of Millersburg, formerly of Findlay, died Saturday, Feb. 6, 1999, at Joel Pomerene Memorial Hospital in Millersburg. Private graveside burial will be at Maple Grove Cemetery, Findlay. Memorial services will be held at a later date. There will be no calling hours. Alexander Funeral Home, Millersburg, is handling arrangements. She was born Sept. 16, 1913 in Findlay to Orville and Goldie (Bishop) Arnold and married Paul L. Armbrecht. He died previously. Surviving are a daughter, Sharon Huston of Millersburg; four grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and a sister, Margaret Simonds of Cincinnati.

W. Abner Miller
BERLIN -- W. Abner Miller, 85, P.O. Box 16, died Sunday morning, Feb. 7, 1999, at Walnut Hills Nursing Home, Walnut Creek, after a period of declining health. Services will be Wednesday at 10 a.m. at Pleasant View Mennonite Church, with the Revs. Freeman Hostetler and Joe Hochstetler officiating. Burial will be at the church cemetery. Friends may call Tuesday from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. at the church, or one hour prior to the services. Arrangements are being handled by Alexander Funeral Home, Millersburg. The family suggests contributions be made to Pleasant View Mennonite Church, 3391 U.S. 62, Millersburg 44654. He was born Sept. 18, 1913 in Holmes County to Mose and Mary (Miller) Miller and married Fannie Yoder on Jan. 15, 1934. She survives. Surviving in addition to his wife are a son-in-law, Levi Hershberger Jr. of Wooster and a daughter-in-law, Mary Ellen Miller of Millersburg; seven grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and a great-great-granddaughter.

Dorothy Potts
CUYAHOGA FALLS -- Dorothy Potts, 79, 171 Graham Road, Cuyahoga Falls, formerly of Dundee, died Saturday, Feb. 6, 1999, at Cuyahoga Falls General Hospital, after a brief illness. Services will be Tuesday at 11 a.m. at Smith Funeral Home in Sugarcreek, with the Rev. Ellis Martin officiating. Burial will be at Grandview Cemetery in Strasburg. Friends may call tonight (Monday) from 5-8 at the funeral home. The family suggests contributions be made to Dundee Church of God. She was born April 30, 1919 in West Union to Arthur and Flossie (Tolle) McDaniel and married Victor Potts. He died Feb. 19, 1975. Surviving are children, Mrs. Harold (Sherry) Smith of Sugarcreek, Norma Jean Hostetler of San Antonio, Texas, and Neil Potts of Stow; seven grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; sisters, Nora Morehead of Middleburg Heights and Dean Kimberly of West Union; and a brother, Dale McDaniel of Georgetown.

Alexus Robbins
WOOSTER -- Alexus Danielle Robbins, infant daughter of Danny and Angel (Swartzmiller) Robbins, of Lincoln Street, died Friday, Feb. 5, 1999, at her home. Services will be Tuesday at 6 p.m. at Secor Funeral Home in Willard, where friends may call one hour prior to the services. The Rev. Steve Holliday will officiate. Graveside services will be Wednesday at 1 p.m. at Riverside Cemetery in Montpelier. Surviving in addition to her parents are sisters, Alyssa and Leslie and a brother, Darrell of the home; maternal grandparents, Greg and Diane Swartzmiller of Attica and Mike and Sharon Nussbaum of Loudonville; paternal grandparents, Morris and Delores Robbins of Montpelier and Darrell and Leliah Wade of Wooster; maternal great-grandparents, Janet Swartzmiller of Attica and Betty Thompson of Shiloh; maternal great-great-grandmother, Violet Gurney of Attica; and several aunts, uncles and cousins.

Jeffrey Fox
ELYRIA -- Jeffrey A. Fox, 35, of Elyria, died Sunday, Feb. 7, 1999, at Cleveland Clinic, after a short illness. Services will be Wednesday at 11 a.m. at Bauer-Laubenthal Funeral Home, 38475 Chestnut Ridge, Elyria, with the Rev. Bradley Quick officiating. Burial will be at Brookdale Cemetery. Surviving are his wife, Cherri (Wallace) Fox of six years; sons, Branden Fox of Elyria and Bryce Fox of the home; his parents of Grafton; and a brother, Rodney Fox of Michigan.

DOYLESTOWN -- Clyde W. Files, 90, of Doylestown, died Sunday, Feb. 7, 1999. Services will be Wednesday at 11 a.m. at Zion Lutheran Church, with the Rev. Stephen Kummernuss officiating. Burial will be at Hillcrest Memorial Gardens. Friends may call Tuesday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at Zak-Monbarren Funeral Home in Doylestown, or one hour prior to the services at the church. Memorial contributions may be made to Zion Lutheran Church; or to Wayne County Visiting Nurse Service. He was born July 22, 1908, in Berkeley County, W.Va., to Charles and Eta (DeHaven) Files and was married to Clara E. Files. She died in 1975. He then married Elizabeth Hobster on Dec. 19, 1980. She survives. Surviving in addition to his wife, are children and their spouses, Gene and Janet Files of Norton, Don and Malene Files of Wadsworth and Gloria and Raymond Michael of Martinsburg, W.Va.; stepchildren and their spouses, Douglas and Mary Ann Shisler and Dale Shisler, all of Doylestown, Dennis and Leeta Shisler of Morgan, Utah, Nelson Shultz of Decatur, Ala., and Mildred and Gene Hawk of Wadsworth; 30 grandchildren; and 27 great-grandchildren.

Services will be Thursday at 2:30 p.m. at McIntire, Davis & Greene Funeral Home in Wooster, with the Rev. Dr. Alan Nathan officiating. Burial will be at Wooster Cemetery. Friends may call one hour prior to the services at the funeral home. She was born May 5, 1907 in Detroit to David and Cora (Keever) Duncan and married Herbert S. Slater. He died in 1997. Surviving are a son, Herbert Slater Jr. of Davis, Calif., sons and their wives, Bruce D. and Joanne Slater, Stanley R. and Caryl Slater and Charles T. and Donna Slater, all of Wooster; grandchildren, Debbie Brenneman, Mitchell, Duncan, Kurt and Jeffrey Slater, Susan Slater Baily and Jennifer Slater Heimbuch; great-grandchildren, Larkyn, Spencer, Sean, Kelli, Brian, Holly and Scott; and a sister, Laura Craig of Orlando, Fla.

Ada Mast
WOOSTER -- Ada E. Mast, 86, formerly of 5354 Millersburg Road, died Sunday morning, Feb. 7, 1999, at Horn Nursing Home. Services will be Wednesday at 11 a.m. at McIntire, Davis & Greene Funeral Home in Wooster, with the Rev. Richard Shibley officiating. Burial will be at Moreland Cemetery. Friends may call Tuesday from 7-9 p.m. at the funeral home. She was born July 3, 1912 in Fryburg to David Albert and Arie (Summers) Fry and married Carl Mast. He died in 1964. Surviving are a son, Dr. Gerald Mast and wife, Katie, of Ashland; four grandchildren; and a brother, Carl Fry of Millersburg.

MILES CITY, Mont. -- Stephen Larson, 57, of Miles City, Mont., died Thursday, Feb. 4, 1999, at Holy Rosary Health Center in Miles City. Services were held this afternoon, Feb. 8, at 2 at Grace Bible Church in Miles City, with the Rev. Jerry Coon officiating. Burial was at Custer County Cemetery. Arrangements were handled by Stevenson & Sons Funeral Home in Miles City, Mont. Lewis, whom she married June 23, 1962; a son and daughter-in-law, Andrew and Shari Lewis of Winona Lake, Ind. and a daughter and son-in-law, Cherie and Grant Gill of Memphis, Tenn.; grandchildren, Joshua, Victoria and Madeline Gill of Memphis, Tenn.; brothers and sisters-in-law, Douglas S. and Barbara Tucker of Mansfield and Dan T. and Barbara Tucker of Lucas; sisters and brothers-in-law, Sondra and Richard Welker, Nancy and Raymond Herr and Diane and Chuck Trackler, all of Mansfield; numerous nieces and nephews; her father-in-law, Harry J. Lewis of Wooster; and sisters-in-law, Sue Lewis DeCapua of Wooster and Mari-lyn Hammond of Monrore, Mich. Services will be Thursday at 11 a.m. at Grace Bible Church in Lucas. WOOSTER -- Ernest W. Hillyer Sr., 47, 1684 Mechanicsburg Road, Lot 20, died Monday afternoon, Feb. 8, 1999, at Wooster Community Hospital, from apparent natural causes. Graveside services will be Thursday at 1 p.m. at Pine Grove Cemetery in Lancaster. Friends may call tonight (Wednesday) from 6-8 at Custer Funeral Home, Wooster. SHREVE -- Everett E. Young, 50, 5163 Maple Grove Road, died Wednesday, Feb. 10, 1999, at his residence. Services will be Saturday at 11 a.m. at Johnston-Schlabach Funeral Home in Shreve, with the Rev. Libby Kuntz officiating. Burial will be at Oak Grove Cemetery. Friends may call Friday from 7-9 p.m. at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to Wayne County Ohio Horse Council, 9469 Steiner Road, Rittman 44270. He was born July 27, 1948 in Wadsworth to Otho and Ruby (Randolph) Young and married Sharon L. Plant on Dec. 23, 1967. She survives. Surviving in addition to his wife are sons, Todd Young of Shreve and Terry Young and wife, Vanessa, of Wooster; four grandchildren; and sisters and their spouses, Gathie Lee and Nelson Repp of Seville, Louella and Gary Grunder of Creston, Inez and Dan Bailey of Charlotte, N.C., and Venus and Richard Wise of Burbank.

AURORA -- Karen Marie Hennen, 43, of Aurora, died Wednesday, Feb. 10, 1999, at Maplewood Care Center in Streetsboro. Services will be Saturday at 11 a.m. at Aurora Mennonite Church, with the Rev. Marlin Birkey officiating. Burial will be at Aurora Mennonite Church Cemetery. Friends may call Friday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at Shorts Funeral Home, 9781 Page Road, Streetsboro. Memorial contributions may be made to Central Christian High School, Home Economics Department, 3970 Kidron Road, Kidron 44636. She was born Jan. 11, 1956 in Bedford to Nolan and Marie (Rupp) Yoder, and married Michael Hennen in 1975. He survives. Surviving in addition to her husband are children, Kelly and Brian, both of the home; her parents of Aurora; and a sister, Marla Yoder-Tiedt of Columbus.

Wynona Saurer
SALEM -- Wynona J. Saurer, 95 of Salem, formerly of Dalton and Massillon, died Wednesday, Feb. 10, 1999, at Essex Nursing Center in Salem. Service will be Saturday at 11 a.m. at Zak-Monbarren Funeral Home in Dalton, with the Rev. Rusty Cowden officiating. Burial will be at Apple Creek Cemetery. Friends may call one hour prior to the services at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to Dalton Presbyterian Church, 163 W. Main St., Dalton 44618. She was born May 4, 1903 in Wayne County to Howard and Rachel (Fraze) Jameson and married Donald Stahl. He died in 1959. On Oct. 14, 1967, she married Doyle Saurer. He died May 24, 1995. Surviving are cousins, Harold and Carl Lipp, both of East Palestine, and Evelyn Johns of Ellwood City, Pa.
