WADSWORTH -- Lloyd A. Clifford, 77, of Grandview Avenue, died Tuesday, Feb. 23, 1999, at his residence. He was the father of Charles Clifford and wife, Debbie, of Seville and the brother of Mildred Culler of Lodi. Services will be Friday at 1 p.m. at Roberts Funeral Home, Hillcrest Chapel, Wadsworth, with the Rev. William L. Johnson officiating. Burial will be at Hillcrest Memorial Gardens, where military rites will be conducted. Friends may call one hour prior to the services at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Medina County, 797 N. Court, Medina 44256; or to Grace Lutheran Church, 146 High St., Wadsworth 44281. He was born May 9, 1921 in Wadsworth to Bert and Dora Clifford and married Shirley M. Collins on July 3, 1952. She survives. Surviving in addition to his son, sister and wife are four other children and their spouses, Delbert and Linda Clifford of Wadsworth, Rose Marie Sweazy of Norton, Neala and Tom Winn of Omaha, Neb., and Mickie and Frank Lisk of Leavenworth, Kan.; 14 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; and another sister, Bernice Williams and husband, Ralph, of Wadsworth.

ORRVILLE -- Rodney T. McDowell, 38, 13005 Hackett Road, died in Lawrence Township, Stark County. Services will be Tuesday at 2 p.m. at Auble Funeral Home in Orrville, with the Rev. Scott Brown officiating. Burial will be at Westlawn Cemetery in Mount Vernon. Friends may call Monday from 7-9 p.m. at the funeral home, or one hour prior to the services. AMHERSTBERG, Ontario, Canada -- Nancy (Curry) McSweeney, 85, of Amherstberg, Ontario, Canada, died Thursday, Feb. 4, 1999, at her home. Surviving is a sister, Elizabeth (Curry) Langley, and husband, Elliott, of Toronto, Ontario, Canada.

Luretta Rhoads
BAKERSFIELD, Mo. -- Luretta C. Rhoads, 84, of Bakersfield, Mo., died Tuesday, Jan. 19, 1999. She was the mother of Mary Ellen Jefferies Stewart and husband, Richard, and John A. Rhoads, both of Doylestown. Services were held Friday, Jan. 22. Burial was at Bakersfield Cemetery. Arrangements were handled by Robertson-Drago Funeral Home in West Plains, Mo. She was born Dec. 25, 1914 in Brickey, Ark., to George and Ruth (Higgins) Cook and married Joseph Henry Rhoads in 1933. He died in 1951. Surviving in addition to her daughter and son, are five other children and their spouses, Sarah E. and Walter Schmidt of Cahokia, Ill., Samuel L. and Judy Rhoads of Vancouver, Wash., William D. and JoAnn Rhoads of Moline Acres, Mo., Martha A. and Carl Hadley of Pottersville, Mo., and Linda J. Rhoads of Ash Flat, Ark.; 27 grandchildren; 46 great-grandchildren; nine step-great-grandchildren; eight great-great-grandchildren; six step-great-great-grandchildren; a sister, Christine Swan and brothers, Vartuman and Edmon Cook, all of Marianne, Ark.; and several nieces and nephews.

William Weary
EGG HARBOR CITY, N.J. -- William G. Weary, 65, of Egg Harbor City, N.J., died Thursday, Feb. 4, 1999, at his home. Services were held Monday, Feb. 8, at Absecon United Methodist church in Absecon, N.J. Burial was at Germania Cemetery. Arrangements were handled by Atwood Peterson Guthlein Funeral Home, Egg Harbor City, N.J. Memorial contributions may be made to Sloan-Kettering Memorial Hospital, 1275 York Ave., P.O. LODI -- Elmo M. "Shortie" McVicker, 82, of Lodi, died Wednesday, Feb. 24, 1999, at his home. Services will be Saturday at 11 a.m. at Parker & Son Funeral Home in Lodi. Burial will be at Chatham Cemetery. Friends may call Friday from 6-9 p.m. at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Medina County, 797 N. Court St., Medina 44256. Surviving are children, David McVicker of Perry, Paul McVicker of Creston and Elaine Estes of West Salem; 12 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and a sister, Eva Aufmuth of Lodi. His first wife, Lula B. (Reaves) McVicker of 50 years and his second wife, Olive (Calvey) McVicker of nine months, died previously.

Myrtle Robb
WOOSTER -- Myrtle P. Robb, 90, formerly of 534 Williamsburg Court, died Wednesday, Feb. 24, 1999, at Smithville-Western Care Center. Services will be Saturday at 3:30 p.m. at McIntire, Davis & Greene Funeral Home in Wooster, with the Rev. Richard Shibley officiating. Entombment will be at Sherwood Memorial Gardens. Friends may call one hour prior to the services at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to a charity of the donor's choice. She was born June 21, 1908 in Franklin Township to John C. and Florence E. (Schaff) Patterson and married Thoburn E. Robb on Nov. 21, 1940. He died previously. Surviving are a sister, Mabel Begert of Wooster; and many nieces and nephews.

Ruth Rastetter
LOUDONVILLE -- Ruth F. Rastetter, 83, formerly of South Mount Vernon Avenue, died Tuesday, Feb. 23, 1999, at Mercy Hospital in Janesville, Wis. Services will be Saturday at 1 p.m. at McIntire, Davis & Greene Funeral Home in Wooster, with the Rev. John McLachlan officiating. Burial will be at Wooster Cemetery. Friends may call Friday from 7-9 p.m. at the funeral home. The family will receive friends for a time of fellowship following the committal service at 3 p.m. at Oak Chapel United Methodist Church. She was born May 29, 1915 in Wooster to Archer Z. and Lillie (Geiselman) Wirt and married Gene R. Rastetter. He died Sept. 16, 1976. Surviving are children and their spouses, Gene and Deborah Rastetter of Loudonville and Jim and Cheryl Rastetter of Janesville, Wis.; grandchildren, Kimberly, Rebecca, Jim and Robbie Rastetter, Heidi Chrastina and Heather Williams; a great-grandchild, Kadin Chrastina; a brother, Jim Wirt of Moreland; and a sister, Marion Starn of Orrville.

William Ashford
ORRVILLE -- William Everett Ashford, 74, of Burton City Road, died Tuesday morning, Feb. 23, 1999, at Lincoln Manor in Orrville, after a period of declining health. Services will be Saturday at noon at First Baptist Church in Orrville. Burial will be at Crown Hill Cemetery in Orrville. Friends may call two hours prior to the services at the church. He married Frances Jewel Giffin on Feb. 15, 1958. She died April 2, 1998. Surviving are sons, Jimmy Ashford of Akron and Brian Ashford of Upper Marlboro, Md.; a sister Mattie Ashford Henderson of Akron; brothers, Samuel Muhammad and Littleton Richard Ashford, both of Akron; and a host of nieces, nephews and cousins, who will miss him.

Everett Doyle
BIG PRAIRIE -- Everett Doyle, 84, of Big Prairie, died Wednesday evening, Feb. 24, 1999, at Smithville-Western Care Center, after a short illness. Services will be Sunday at 2 p.m. at Alexander Funeral Home, Millersburg, with the Rev. Joanna Lance officiating. Burial will be at Killbuck Cemetery. Friends may call one hour prior to the services at the funeral home. The family suggests contributions be made to St. John's United Church of Christ, 136 Main St., Glenmont 44628; or to Wayne County Humane Society, 1162 Mechanicsburg Road, Wooster 44691. He was born Oct. 9, 1914 in Holmes County, to Millard and Hattie Mae (Carter) Doyle and married Dorothy Beck on July 16, 1942. She died Aug. 12, 1997. Surviving are a son, Richard and wife, Sophia, of Big Prairie and a son Stephen and wife, Brenda Ziegler of Wooster; a grandson, Ryan of Findlay; a sister, Mamie Nida of Barberton; brothers, Frank Doyle of Navarre and Joseph Doyle of Killbuck; and numerous nieces and nephews.

WOOSTER -- Charles L. Bonam, 79, 2642 Monterey St., died Thursday, Feb. 25, 1999, at his residence. Services will be Monday at 1 p.m. at McIntire, Davis & Greene Funeral Home in Wooster. He was born Dec. 13, 1919 in Antioch to Henry and Caroline (Nalley) Bonam and married Elsie Selvy on May 5, 1962. She survives. Surviving in addition to his wife are children and their spouses, Gary L. and Barbara Bonam of Akron, Richard C. and Donna Bonam of Columbia, S.C., and Debra A. and Dale Badertscher of Wooster; seven grandchildren; and a great-grandchild.

Evelyn Shipman
MACEDONIA -- Evelyn J. (Rumburg) Shipman, 67, of Macedonia, died Saturday, Feb. 20, 1999, at her home. Services were held Tuesday, Feb. 23, at the United Methodist Church of Macedonia. The Revs. H. George Mayers and Gregory Rumburg officiated. Burial was at Northfield-Macedonia Cemetery. Arrangements were handled by Ferfolia Funeral Home. She was born July 24, 1931 in Seville to Warren and Violet Rumburg and married Fay E. Shipman in June of 1954. He died in October 1992. Surviving are children and their spouses, Jan and Dan Jaworski of Northfield, Mark and Kathy Shipman of Tallmadge and Amy and Glenn Fetter of Florida; five grandchildren; a sister, Anne Riggenbach of Seville; and a brother, Al Rumburg of Wooster.

Billie Vinion
WOOSTER -- Billie R. Vinion, 74, of 905 College Hills, Apt. A-3, died Friday morning, Feb. 26, 1999, at his residence, following a lengthy illness. Funeral services will be Monday at 11 a.m. at Custer Funeral Home, Wooster, with the Rev. Ermon French officiating, followed by burial at Wooster Cemetery. Friends of the family may call at the funeral home Sunday from 2-4 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made in lieu of flowers to either Hospice of Wayne County, 2525A Back Orrville Road, Wooster, Ohio 44691 or American Heart Association, Canton Metro Office, 4916 Hills and Dales Road, N.W. Canton, Ohio 44708, or American Lung Association of Stark-Wayne, 1300 Christmas Seal Dr., N.W. Canton, Ohio 44709. Mr. Vinion was born March 24, 1924 in Youngstown, Ohio to Edward B. and Laura (Loh) Vinion and has been a Wayne County resident for the past eight years. He married Alma E. Yount in Youngstown, Ohio in 1948. She survives. In addition to his wife, he is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Mr. Lon (Melanie) Vinion of Wooster, and a daughter and son-in-law, Mrs. Richard (Billie R. ) Federspiel of Grangier, Ind.; two brothers, Harry and Howard Vinion, both of Youngstown; a sister, Mrs. Dorothy Orr of Youngstown; five grandchildren, Erin, Courtney, and Jon Federspiel, and Keenan and Colin Vinion.

Orrel Hosfeld
CANTON -- Orrel Cramer Hosfeld, 95, of Canton, died Friday, Feb. 26, 1999, at Aultman Hospital in Canton, following a long illness. Services will be Monday at 2 p.m. at Murray Funeral Home in Fredericksburg, with the Rev. Donald Rossire officiating. Burial will be in Fredericksburg Cemetery. Friends may call Monday from 12-2 p.m. at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to American Cancer Society or the charity of the donor's choice. She was born Nov. 2, 1903 in Fredericksburg to Hiram and Mary (Slutz) Cramer and married Linus V. Hosfeld in 1935. He died on Oct. 15, 1989. Surviving are nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband, a sister, Lillis Musser, and five brothers, Custer, Harry, Logan, Claude and Willis Cramer, died previously.

Dr. Dexter Douglas
MOORE, Idaho -- Dr. Dexter R. Douglas, 61, of Route 1, Box 7A, Moore, Idaho 83255, passed away on Feb. 26, 1999 at Lost River Community Hospital from cancer. He was born on Nov. 14, 1937 to Richard and Dorothy (Phillabaum) Douglas. On May 26, 1962 he married Beradine (Bresson) Douglas. She survives. Surviving in addition his wife are two daughters, Laura (Jim) Waddoups of Arco, Idaho, and Syndy Douglas of Yuma, Arizona; a granddaughter, Carsen Waddoups; and a half-brother, James McCauslin of Stone Creek, Ohio. Services will be March 1, 1999 at Marvel Memorial Chapel in Arco, Idaho. Memorial contributions may be sent to Bank of Commerce, P.O. Box 9, Arco, Idaho 83213 in care of Dexter Douglas.

Ralph Hill
SMITHVILLE -- Ralph B. Hill, 95, formerly of 250 W. Center St., died Thursday afternoon, Feb. 25, 1999, at Westview Manor Nursing Center in Wooster. Funeral services will be Tuesday at 11 a.m. at Pleasant Hill Baptist Church in Smithville, with the Revs. Steve Olson and Robert Venhuis officiating, followed by burial at the church cemetery. Friends of the family may call at the church on Monday from 7-9 p.m. and one hour prior to services. Custer Funeral Home in Wooster is in charge of arrangements. Mr. Hill was born July 1, 1903 in Fremont, Ohio to George J. and Sarah (Daniels) Hill and moved to Wayne County from Cleveland, Ohio in 1961. He is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Robert G. (Nancy R.) Riedel of Fairview Park, Ohio, and Mrs. George (Barbara L.) Purnell of Erial, N.J.; six grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren, and a great-great-grandaughter.

Margaret Clifford
BARNESVILLE -- Margaret M. Clifford, 86, formerly of Seville and Barnesville, died Thursday, Feb. 25, 1999, at Brenn-field Nursing Center in Orrville. Services will be Tuesday at 11 a.m. at Armstrong Funeral Home in Seville, with the Rev. Mike Daniele officiating. Burial will be at Mound Hill Cemetery in Seville. Friends may call Monday from 7-9 p.m. at the funeral home. She was born in Fort Worth, Texas, and had been a Medina County resident for 30 years before moving to Barnesville. Surviving are her sons, Willard Clifford of Wadsworth and Dennis Clifford of Germansville, Pa., and a daughter and son-in-law, Michele (Jim) Drake of Dalton; four grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren.

Grace Phillips
WARSAW -- Grace C. Phillips, 73, 18518 County Road 3, died Friday, Feb. 26, 1999, at Bethesda Hospital in Zanesville. Services will be Monday at 11 a.m. at McIntire, Davis & Greene Funeral Home in Wooster, with the Rev. William Valentine officiating. Burial will be at Sherwood Memorial Gardens, Wooster. She was born Jan. 31, 1926, in Layland, to Harold C. and Beulah (Sampsel) Fortune and married Thomas Eugene Phillips on Nov. 4, 1949. He died in September 1969. Surviving are children, Robert Phillabaum of Wooster and Charles Phillabaum of Orrville; grandchildren, Mrs. Ron (Pam) Luedy, Mrs. Brian (Julie) Uhl and Jennifer Phillabaum; three great-grandchildren; brothers, Harold Fortune of Mountainview, Mo., Ray Fortune of Olympia, Wash., Paul Fortune of Plain City and Gerald Fortune of Bainbridge; and William Krothe with whom she had made her home.

Dr. John Freiling
STRONGSVILLE -- Dr. John W. Freiling, 85, of 18025 Royalton Road, and formerly of Nashville, died Sunday, Feb. 21, 1999, at Cleveland Clinic. Memorial services will be March 6 at 2 p.m. at Mentor United Methodist Church, with the Dr. Ken Chalker and the Rev. Joe Santomen officiating. Memorial contributions may be made to Dr. John Freiling Scholarship Fund, P.O. Box 67, Orangeville 44453. He was born Sept. 28, 1913 in Georges Run to Henry and Bertha (Jackson) Freiling and married Mary L. Britt on June 20, 1937. She died on June 6, 1985. Surviving are a son, John R. (Kathleen) Freiling of Perry, and a daughter, Rev. Joyce (Rev. Dan) Jenkins of Strongsville; 10 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

DOYLESTOWN -- Alfred A. First, 84, of Doylestown, died Sunday, Feb. 28, 1999, at Doylestown Health Care Center. Services will be Wednesday at 11 a.m. at Zak-Monbarren Funeral Home in Doylestown, with the Rev. Dr. David Tennant officiating. Burial will be at Chestnut Hill Cemetery. Arden Sampsel Sr.
MASSILLON -- Arden "Art" Sampsel Sr., 64, of Massillon, died Sunday, Feb. 28, 1999, at his home after a brief illness. Services will be Wednesday at 11 a.m. at Spidell Funeral Home in Mount Eaton, with the Rev. Ray Peters officiating. Burial will be at Westlawn Cemetery in Winesburg, where military rites will be held. Friends may call tonight (Tuesday) from 6-8 at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to Mercy Medical Center Hospice, 1320 Mercy Drive, NW, Canton 44708. He was born July 13, 1934 in Beach City to Charles and Sevilla (Kendal) Sampsel and married P. Marjean (Mast) Miller on July 19, 1991. She survives. Ralph Achamire
MILLERSBURG -- Ralph P. Achamire, 86, of Millersburg, died Monday morning, March 1, 1999, at Joel Pomerene Memorial Hospital in Millersburg, after an extended illness. Services will be Friday at 1 p.m. at Alexander Funeral Home, Millersburg, with the Rev. Dr. Kenneth Walther officiating. Burial will be at Oak Hill Cemetery, Millersburg. Friends may call Thursday from 7-9 p.m. at the funeral home. The family suggests contributions be made to St. John's Church of Millersburg; or to Holmes Fire District 1, Emergency Medical Service. He was born Nov. 7, 1912 in Millersburg to Charles and Pearl (Schlarb) Achamire and married Dorothy Steele on Sept. 4, 1937. She survives. LUCAS -- Lois E. Culler, 74, 3604 Lucas-Perrysville Road, died Sunday afternoon, Feb. 28, 1999, at Colonial Health Care Center in Loudonville. Services will be Wednesday at 1 p.m. at Byerly-Lindsey Funeral Home in Loudonville, with the Rev. Walter Schuman officiating. Burial will be at Mount Zion Cemetery, Lucas. Culler and wife, Robin, of Perrysville and Charles Culler of Lucas; six grandchildren; and her mother of Loudonville.

Gilkey, 44, beloved son, husband, brother, father, friend and teacher, died Monday morning, March 1, 1999, in the critical care unit at Wooster Community Hospital, after a long illness. Services will be Friday at 11 a.m. at Central Christian Church, Wooster, with the Revs. David Stout and Ermon French officiating. Cremation will follow the services. Friends may call Wednesday and Thursday from 6-8 p.m. at Custer Funeral Home, Wooster. Memorial contributions may be made in lieu of flowers to the Brad Alan Gilkey Memorial Fund for Franklin Township School, in care of Wayne County National Bank, Wooster. He was born Aug. 24, 1954 in Sharon, Pa., to Harry A. and Donna J. (Hause) Gilkey and married Jane H. Durieux on Oct. 29, 1977 in Holmesville. She survives.
