Alabama School Yearbooks by State and County

George Thiel

George A. Thiel of 11636 TH 49, Upper Sandusky, died at 12:55 a.m. Thursday, April 3, 2003, in Blanchard Valley Regional Health Center, Findlay. He was 68. Born in Wyandot County on July 13, 1934, he was the son of Clarence and Ida (Rall) Thiel. Surviving are three sisters, Jane Boehler, Tiffin; Marilyn Steyer, Lewis Center; and Helen Brickner, Fostoria; two aunts; nieces and nephews. A sister, Clara Heyman, is deceased. Mr. Thiel was a lifelong grain and livestock farmer. He was a member of St. Peter Catholic Church and a life member of Knights of Columbus Lodge 2050, where he served as inner guard for many years. He also was a member of the Ohio Farmers Union and a past member of the Wyandot County Sportsman's Club. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at noon Saturday in St. Peter Catholic Church, Upper Sandusky, with the Rev. James Holmer as the celebrant. Interment will be in St. Peter Cemetery, Upper Sandusky. Friends may call from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Friday at Bringman-Clark & Co. Funeral Home, where a biblical wake service will be held at 7:30 p.m. Friday. Memorials may be made to St. Peter Catholic Church or a charity of the donor's choice in care of the funeral home, PO Box 246, Upper Sandusky OH 43351.

Loloma Hines

Loloma E. Hines, formerly of North Fourth Street in Upper Sandusky and a resident at Wyandot Manor Nursing Home for the past five years, died at Wyandot Manor at 10:35 p.m., Wednesday, April 2, 2003. She was 86. Born in Fairfield, Ill., on Feb. 4, 1917, she was a daughter of Walter and Edna (Perry) McDannel. She married Carl Hines in Maysville, Ky., on Aug. 8, 1938. He died Feb. 27, 1999. Surviving are two sons, Dennis, Ney; and David, Upper Sandusky; a daughter, Judy Reiser, Oregon City, Ore.; 10 grandchildren, Diane Bernath, Archbold; Vicki Bashor, Defiance; Timothy Hines, Ney; Patrick Hines, Sherwood; Carla Dee, McComb; Deana Hines, Upper Sandusky; Laura McMeans, Columbus; Todd and Kevin Reiser, both of Glendale, Ariz.; and Jason Reiser, Davis, Calif; 16 great-grandchildren; and two brothers, Perry McDannel, Berea; and Richard McDannel, Marion. She was preceded in death by a brother, Albert McDannel; and a sister, Mary Niederkohr. A 1935 graduate of Salem High School, Mrs. Hines was a homemaker and worked for 20 years at Kimmel Cleaners. She also owned and operated Loloma's Ceramics out of her home for many years. She was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church for more than 70 years. Mrs. Hines was a 50-year member of Warpole Chapter No. 366 OES. She enjoyed playing euchre, sewing and baking various foods and sharing them with others. The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Monday, at Lucas Funeral Home with the Rev. Jerry Elsholz officiating. Burial will follow in Old Mission Cemetery. Visitation is Sunday from 2-5 p.m. at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the organization of the donor's choice in care of Lucas Funeral Home, P.O. Box 207, Upper Sandusky, OH 43351.

Dianna Kelbley

LAKELAND, Fla. - Dianna Kelbley, 64, formerly of Upper Sandusky, died at 2:10 p.m. on Thursday, April 3, 2003, at the Lakeland Regional Hospital in Lakeland, Fla. Born Nov. 19, 1938, in Kinniconick, Ky., she was a daughter of Ernest and Dorothy (Pell) Rhoden. Surviving are her husband, Robert Kelbley, Lakeland; two daughters Marjorie (Cusick) Shoemaker, Upper Sandusky; JoEllen Simonsen Gatchel, Nevada; three stepdaughters Abby Myeress and Jennifer Kelbley, both of Columbus; and Nicole Cramer, Findlay; four grandchildren Lynsey Hill, Mount Victory; Sarah McMillan, Columbus; and Luke Shoemaker and Ivy Shoemaker, Upper Sandusky; four sisters, Betty Reed, Bluffton; Rosalind Swankhouse, Rhetta Bennett and Susie Greilich, all of Upper Sandusky; a brother Darrell Rhoden, Palmdale, California; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by two daughters, a son and two sisters. Mrs. Kelbley retired after working for several years in the restaurant industry. She attended the John Stewart United Methodist Church in Upper Sandusky. Mrs. Kelbley enjoyed gardening, entertaining and spending time with her family and grandchildren. Visitation is April 19, from 2-6 p.m. at the home of her daughter, JoEllen, 310 S. Main St., Nevada. A private ceremony will be held at a later date. Memorials may be made through a book donation to the Upper Sandusky Community Library.

Donald Long

Donald E. Long of Ohio 37, Upper Sandusky, died at his home on Sunday, March 30, 2003, at the age of 90. Born in Jackson Township on Sept. 4, 1912, he was a son of John William and Clara Alice Emma Mae (Stewart) Long. He married Martha Lue Thomas on Sept. 6, 1937, in Lily Chapel. She died March 21, 2003. Surviving are a son, Barry, Forest; a daughter, Brenda Deringer, Dunkirk; three grandchildren, Barry Long, Forest; Kimberly Deringer, Fairborn; and Donald Long, Forest; and two great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by three sisters, Lola Staley, Lottie Parsell and Velma Dome. A 1932 graduate of Forest High School, Mr. Long farmed and retired from the former United Technology in Kenton on Feb. 10, 1978, after 22 years. He worked in maintenance there and prior to that, he worked at the former Automotive Fiber in Forest. He was a member of the Forest United Methodist Church and served as a former trustee and usher. Mr. Long was a member of the International Association of Machinist and Aerospace Workers, Farm Bureau of Hardin County, and a former member of the NRA and of the Match Rifle Club. He and his wife were the king and queen of the senior citizens at the 1986 Wyandot County Fair. Mr. Long enjoyed the outdoors, gardening, hunting, fishing and cutting firewood. He also enjoyed woodworking and built items such as jelly cupboards and quilt racks. A graveside service will be at 11 a.m. on Friday in Jackson Center Cemetery in rural Upper Sandusky, with the Rev. Brett Kelly officiating. Visitation is Wednesday from 6-9 p.m. at Lucas Funeral Home. Memorials may be made to Forest United Methodist Church in care of Lucas Funeral Home, P.O. Box 207, Upper Sandusky, OH 43351.

Rosella Griffith

Rosella Griffith, formerly of Upper Sandusky, died on Monday, March 31, 2003, in Brandon, Fla. She was 76. Mrs. Griffith is survived by two sons, Thomas A. Griffith, Florida; and William R. Griffith, Florida; five granddaughters and one grandson; and eight great-granddaughters and one great-grandson. She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Swan Griffith. Interment will be in Laurel, Miss. Services will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Memory Chapel in Laurel.

Devin Shilling

CAREY - Devin Michael Shilling, 142 S. Lake St., Carey, died at St. Vincent Mercy Medical Center in Toledo at 2:13 p.m., Tuesday, April 1, 2003. He was 21 days old. Born on March 11, 2003, at St. Vincent Mercy Medical Center, he was a son of Heidi L. Shilling. She survives in Carey. Also surviving are grandparents Cynthia Shilling of Carey, and Stephan and Patricia Shilling of Vanlue; and great-grandparents Herbert and Lois Prater of Carey, and Rosetta Norris of Fostoria. Graveside services will be Friday at 11 a.m. in Spring Grove Cemetery, Carey, with the Rev. Cynthia Morrison officiating. Memorials may be made to the Devin Shilling Memorial Fund in care of Stombaugh-Batton Funeral Home, 225 W. Findlay St., Carey, OH 43316.

LeVado Baker

LeVado L. Baker of Township Highway 104, Upper Sandusky, died at her residence at 8 p.m. Friday, April 4, 2003. She was 75. Born Jan. 1, 1928, in Bryan, she was a daughter of Emery and Edna (Hoover) Fortney. She married Glenn W. Baker on Aug. 13, 1951, in Van Wert. He died Jan. 12, 1993. Surviving are four grandchildren, Danny Baker Jr., Teena King and Kellie Baker, all of Upper Sandusky, and Emery Baker, Findlay; four great-grandchildren; a brother, Jack Fortney, Bryan; and a sister, Connie Rochester, Carey. She was preceded in death by a son, Danny; three brothers, Howard, Dan and James Fortney; and a sister, Ann Paxton. After attending Hicksville High School, Mrs. Baker worked as a home health aide in Wyandot County, at U-Brand for 13 years and at Bond Plastics. She also was a homemaker. Mrs. Baker was a member of Our Lady of Consolation Church in Carey, and of its Rosary Altar Society. She was a member of the Wyandot County Senior Citizens and enjoyed needlepoint, music, driving through Killdeer Plains and bird watching. Graveside services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday in Oak Hill Cemetery with the Rev. Kieran Kay officiating. Lucas Funeral Home is handling arrangements. There is no visitation. Memorials may be made to Our Lady of Consolation in care of Lucas Funeral Home, P.O. Box 207, Upper Sandusky, OH 43351.

Thomas Steen

LARUE - Thomas "Tommy" Steen died at 2:50 p.m. Friday, April 4, 2003, at Baldwin Manor, Kenton. He was 93. Born in Tyrone, Ireland, on May 3, 1909, he was a son of Robert John and Annie (Geddis) Steen. On Sept. 14, 1955, he married Lena Mae King, who died Feb. 21, 1997. Surviving are two stepsons, Ray Weston and James Weston, both of Morral; a stepdaughter, Barbara Jane Fogle, LaRue; 13 stepgrandchildren; 38 stepgreat-grandchildren; and two stepgreat-great-grandchildren. Preceding him in death were four brothers, John, Bill, Bob and George Steen; and two sisters, Maude Crist and Bessie White. Mr. Steen was a member of Marseilles Presbyterian Church, LaRue Senior Citizens, Tymochtee Grange and the Farmers Union in Marion. He was a member of Warpole Lodge 176, F&AM, Upper Sandusky; McCutchen Chapter 96, R.A.M.; Upper Sandusky Council 98, R&SM; and Ancient Accepted Scottish Rite, Valley of Toledo. A graveside service will be held at a later date. Memorial contributions may be made to a charity of the donor's choice in care of Stofcheck Funeral Home, PO Box 333, LaRue OH 43332, which is in charge of arrangements.

Edward Crow

CRESTON - Edward H. Crow, formerly of Marion and more recently of Upper Sandusky, died at Wyandot Memorial Hospital on Tuesday morning, April 8, 2003. He was 88. Born in Cameron, W.Va., on June 13, 1914, he was a son of Frank and Ida (Hart) Crow. He married Fannie Crow on Nov. 19, 1945. She died Jan. 8, 2000. Surviving are seven sons, Carl, Arizona; Ronald and Robert, both of Stow; David, Atlanta, Ga.; Gary, Creston; Richard; and Dennis, Marion; two daughters, Jo Weston and Jill Hall, both of Marion; 32 grandchildren; and 46 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by two sons, William and Larry; and two brothers, Jess and John. Mr. Crow retired from the Erie-Lackawanna Railroad in 1974, following 33 years of service. He was a member of Creston Moose Lodge No. 1224, and moved to Marion from Creston 34 years ago. The funeral will be Friday at 11 a.m. at Murray Funeral Home in Creston, with burial following in Creston Maple Mound Cemetery. Visitation is at the funeral home from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Thursday. Memorials may be made to Moose-Haven Moose-Heart, Moose International, Moose Heart IL 60539.

Doris Huntley

Doris Mae Huntley, 305 E. Guthrie St., Upper Sandusky, died at the Southwest Florida Regional Medical Center in Estero, Fla., at 2:30 p.m., Saturday, March 29, 2003. She was 77. Born in Halliday, N.D., on Oct. 2, 1925, she was a daughter of Milton and Lillian (Wells) Cole. Surviving are a daughter, Cheryl Bosart, Marion; a son, Michael Huntley, Upper Sandusky; two grandchildren, Lori Bosart of Charleston, S.C., and Kent Bosart, Green Camp; and a brother, Milton Cole, Missoula, Mont. She was preceded in death by two sisters. After 26 years of employment, Mrs. Huntley retired from Westinghouse in Upper Sandusky. Mrs. Huntley was a member of the Moose Lodge in Marion. She enjoyed visiting friends, playing cards and baking bread. A graveside service will be at 11 a.m. on Friday, in LaRue Cemetery with the Rev. Bill Middleton officiating. Bringman-Clark and Co. Funeral Home is handling arrangements. Memorials may be made to the family in care of Bringman-Clark and Co. Funeral Home, PO Box 246, Upper Sandusky OH 43351.

Lawrence Holl

LEIPSIC - Lawrence A. Holl, 86, of Leipsic, died at 7:45 a.m., Tuesday, April 8, 2003, at Otterbein, Leipsic. Born Feb. 9, 1917, in Lakewood, he was a son of Albert and Mary (Poole) Holl. He married Jane Bringman on Aug. 5, 1938. She survives. Also surviving are two sons, James, Ottawa; and Robert, Tucson, Ariz.; a daughter, Joanne Sudman, Perrysburg; five grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a sister, Maryon Wind. A 1941 graduate of Ohio State University with a bachelor's degree in agriculture, Mr. Holl was an agri-research specialist for Nestli/Libby, McNeil and Libby. He attended Leipsic United Methodist Church. Mr. Holl was a member of F&AM Lodge No. 325 in Ottawa, Sigma Phil Epsilon Fraternity, Ohio Gamma in Columbus, PERI, Scottish Rite Valley of Toledo, Leipsic Commercial Club, Leipsic Kiwanis, Leipsic Chamber of Commerce and director of Ohio Food Processors. He was past master of Leipsic Lodge 81 and 82 F&AM. He was a member of several OSU committees, including support committee, OARDG and OSU Horticultural Council and horticulture review committee. He was a member of the Men's Garden Club of America, the first president and charter member of the Leipsic ABC Club and of Leipsic Council and he organized the Leipsic Arbor Program and was chairman of the arbor committee. Mr. Holl received the Tomato Achievement Award in 1990, was a charter member of the Tomato Breeders Roundtable and helped form and was first president of Otterbein, Leipsic. The funeral will be Saturday at 11 a.m. at Leipsic United Methodist Church with the Rev. Mary Bushong officiating. Burial will be in Oak Hill Cemetery in Upper Sandusky. Visitation is at Love Funeral Home in Leipsic from 6-9 p.m. Friday. There will be a Masonic service at 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. Bringman-Clark and Co. Funeral Home is handling local arrangements. Memorials may be made to Leipsic Public Library or the organization of the donor's choice.

Rosemary Fadley

BUCYRUS - Rosemary F. Fadley of Bloomville, died at 2:51 a.m., Wednesday, April 9, 2003, at Marion General Hospital, where she had been since March 7. Born in Carey on March 2, 1923, she was a daughter of Andrew and Ida (Henige) Fox. She married Therman Fadley on June 29, 1944. He died Aug. 20, 2001. Surviving are a daughter, Linda Eppley, Lindsey; and a son, Gary, Saudi Arabia; six grandchildren, Kristen Eppley, Craig Eppley and Brian, Kevin, Ben and Nicholas Fadley; two brothers, Russell Fox, Victoria, Texas; and Merle Fox, Nevada; and two sisters, Martha Saull and Carola Tucker, both of Upper Sandusky. She was preceded in death by a son, Don Fadley; and brother, Vincent Fox. A 1941 graduate of Forest High School, Mrs. Fadley worked at a grocery store and a drug store in Upper Sandusky, and also was a farmwife and mother. She also had two years of nurse's training. She was a member of Holy Trinity Catholic Church, Bucyrus, and of its Rosary Altar Society. Mrs. Fadley was a member of the Lykens Community Club and enjoyed farming and working. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated Friday at 1 p.m. at Holy Trinity Catholic Church with the Rev. Ronald LeJuene officiating. Burial will be in Nevada Cemetery. Visitation is at Munz-Pirnstill Funeral Home on Friday from 11 a.m. until the Mass. Memorials may be made to Holy Trinity School or the American Cancer Society in care of Munz-Pirnstill Funeral Home, 215 N. Walnut St., Bucyrus OH 44820.

Walter Dirmeyer

Walter W. Dirmeyer of Ohio 182, Upper Sandusky, died at the Wyandot County Nursing Home at 11:50 p.m., Wednesday, April 9, 2003. He was 92. Arrangements are pending at Bringman-Clark and Co. Funeral Home.

Opal Hill

Opal McQuistion Hill, who had been residing at the Wyandot County Nursing Home, died at the home at 11:45 a.m., Wednesday, April 9, 2003, at the age of 91. Born in Wyandot County on Jan. 17, 1912, she was a daughter of William and Lillie (Wells) Huff. She married Russell McQuistion on April 10, 1929. He died March 30, 1966. She then married Clayton Hill on Dec. 6, 1974. He died Aug. 25, 1993. Surviving are three sons, Russell Jr., Zanesville; Robert, Kenton; and Norman; two daughters, Linda Warnick, Chesterland; and Marie Woosley, Benedict, Minn.; 33 grandchildren; and a total of 67 great- and great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by two daughters, three sons, three grandchildren and two brothers, Harvey and Curtis Huff. A homemaker, Mrs. Hill had been a nurse's aide at Wyandot Memorial Hospital. She also served on the election board in McCutchenville. Mrs. Hill was a member of the Mary Lincoln Temple No. 104 Pythian Sisters in Sycamore, McCutchen Grange No. 2360 in McCutchenville and was a seventh-degree member of the National Grange. She also was director of the McCutchenville Community Bible School. Mrs. Hill enjoyed cooking and baking, especially for her family, playing cards, sewing for her grandchildren, making layettes and sending cards on holidays to all her relatives. The funeral will be Friday at 11 a.m. at Bringman-Clark and Co. Funeral Home with the Rev. Roy Howell officiating. Burial will be in Bethel Cemetery near McCutchenville. Visitation is at the funeral home from 6-8 p.m. Thursday. Memorials may be made to the Wyandot County Heart Support Group, West Independence United Methodist Church or McCutchenville Trinity United Church of Christ in care of Bringman-Clark and Co. Funeral Home, PO Box 246, Upper Sandusky OH 43351.
