Dorothy Caudill

SYCAMORE - Dorothy E. Caudill, 8283 CH 16, McCutchenville, died at 9:20 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 1, 2003, at Tiffin Mercy Hospital. She was 74. Born on June 23, 1929, in Melmore, she was a daughter of Robert W. and Evelyn (Shelt) Platt. She and John D. Caudill were married Dec. 22, 1974. He survives. Also surviving are a son, Richard Southward, Carey; two daughters, Deb Hall, Carey; and Jean Ann Minzer, Bloomville; a stepson, Gary Caudill, Greensboro, N.C.; two stepdaughters, Mary Ellen Coffman, Melmore; and Ann Foster, Tiffin; 12 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; two brothers, Paul Platt, Tiffin; and Raymond Platt, Bascom; a sister, Eva Jean Rogers, Marblehead; a halfsister, Anna Mathias, Carey; three halfbrothers, Bruce and Larry Laugherty, Tiffin; and Kenny Laugherty, Bascom; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by a grandchild and three brothers. Mrs. Caudill retired as a machine operator at Liqui-Box in Upper Sandusky, after 26 years of service. She was a member of Our Master's Chapel in Benton. Mrs. Caudill enjoyed bowling, doing ceramics, going to garage sales and flea markets and spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. A memorial service will be Sunday at 2 p.m. at Our Master's Chapel with the Rev. Charles McGlone officiating. Burial will be at a later date. Visitation is Sunday from 1:30-2 p.m. at the church. Memorials may be made to Our Master's Chapel, Tiffin Mercy Hospital or the organization of the donor's choice.

P.K. Dawson

LAKEVIEW - P.K. "Perky" Dawson of Lakeview, died at his home at 3:30 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 30, 2003, at the age of 90. A son of Elsworth and Alice (Winslow) Dawson, he was born in Wyandot County on Aug. 17, 1913. He married Margaret E. "Marge" Walter on Feb. 19, 1943. She died June 12, 2003. Surviving are a daughter, Janis Dawson, Bellefontaine; a son, Jim, Wapakoneta; four grandsons, Jimmy and John Dawson and Paul and Steve Ziegler; and a great-grandson. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Jean; a sister; and two brothers. Mr. Dawson was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II. He formerly managed Ohio Farmers Grain and Supply in Lakeview for 21 years, and retired from Yoder Implements in New Hampshire, Ohio, after six years. He attended Indian Lake Church of the Nazarene. Mr. Dawson was a member of Indian Lake Lodge No. 722 F&AM and was a Stokes Township clerk for 12 years. The funeral will be Saturday at 11 a.m. at Van Horn Funeral Home in Lakeview, with the Rev. Glen Freshour officiating. Burial will be in Old Mission Cemetery at 3 p.m. Saturday. Visitation is Friday from 5-8 p.m. at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to Tricare Hospice.

Craig Gottfried

MONTEVIEW, Idaho - Craig E. Gottfried, 74, of Monteview, Idaho, died at his residence on Monday, Sept. 29, 2003. Born Sept. 1, 1929, he was a son of Edwin E. and Grace L. (Newell) Gottfried. He married Mary Joan Myers on Sept. 1, 1948, in Greenup, Ky. They later divorced. Surviving are two daughters, Cathy Jo Gottfried, Jacksonville, Fla.; and Natalie Comstock, Claridon; a granddaughter; a stepgranddaughter; two great-grandchildren; four brothers, Paul, Johnstown; James and Larry, rural Upper Sandusky; and Ray, Tampa, Fla.; and a sister, Rita Eippert, Mineral Ridge. He was preceded in death by a sister, Jeanne Ann Cole. A 1947 graduate of Upper Sandusky High School, Mr. Gottfried moved to the western states in 1956. He worked with horses and cattle on several ranches in Colorado, Wyoming and Idaho. Funeral services are pending in Rigby, Idaho. Eckertsell Funeral Home is handling arrangements.

Avery Atkins

PAMPLIN, Va. - Avery Lee "Slim" Atkins, 81, of Pamplin, Va., died Sunday, Sept. 21, 2003, at Virginia Baptist Hospital. Born in Moorehead, Ky., he was a son of Rosco E. and Lula (Howard) Atkins. He married Lurlie "Peggy" Baldwin. She survives. Also surviving are five children, Dennis, Fremont; Connie, Groveport; Avery Jr., Charlottesville, Va.; Tina, Roanoke, Va.; and Ronnie, Pamplin; four grandchildren, USMC Cpl. Robert Gunn, 29 Palms, Calif.; Heather Gunn, Roanoke; and Richard and Aaron Atkins, both of Ohio; two brothers, Edgar, Crawford; and Goble, Nevada; and a sister, Lissie Murphy, Carey. He was preceded in death by a son, Goble; a brother, Charles; and two sisters, Lucille Rhoades and Nola Ellen Lang. A U.S. Army veteran of World War II, Mr. Atkins was decorated with the Good Conduct Medal, WWII Victory Medal, American Theater Ribbon and the European African Middle Eastern Theater Ribbon with two Bronze Stars. He retired from the Virginia Department of Transportation. A graveside service was held Wednesday morning, Sept. 24, 2003, with the Rev. Chris Harbin officiating. American Legion Post No. 16 conducted graveside military rites.

Della Breyley

SYCAMORE - Della B. Breyley, 401 S. Sycamore Ave., Sycamore, died at the Wyandot County Nursing Home at 4 a.m. Friday, Oct. 3, 2003. She was 90. Born in Spencer on Sept. 27, 1913, she was a daughter of Otto and Olive (Yoder) Allen. She married William J. Breyley on March 2, 1935. He survives. Also surviving are two sons, Lowell, Sycamore; and William, Bucyrus; a daughter, Irene Bell, Van Wert; eight grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; a brother, Frank Wynter, Denver, Colo.; and a sister, Faith Giar, Wellington. She was preceded in death by two sisters and three brothers. Mrs. Breyley was a homemaker. She was a member of Sycamore United Church of Christ, where she was a member of the Alpha Omega Sunday school class. Mrs. Breyley was very active in the Women's Guild of the church, sang in the adult choir for many years and taught the youth Sunday school class for many years. She was a former Cub Scout den mother and also was a Girl Scout leader. She was active in the Republican Women's Club of Wyandot County. Mrs. Breyley was a former member of the Sycamore Mothers Club and of the Homemaker Extension Club of Wyandot County. The funeral will be Tuesday at 11 a.m. at Walton-Moore Funeral Home in Sycamore, with the Rev. Scott Fleming officiating. Burial will be in Pleasant View Cemetery, Sycamore. Visitation is Monday from 6-9 p.m. Memorials may be made to the Wyandot County Nursing Home.

Elizabeth Ehemann

JACKSON CENTER - Elizabeth P. Ehemann of Anna, died at 6:17 a.m. Friday, Oct. 3, 2003, at Dorothy Love Retirement Community in Sidney. She was 78. Born in Anna on Dec. 23, 1924, she was a daughter of Albert and Ethel Marie (Hensel) Zimpfer. She married Robert G. Ehemann on Dec. 23, 1948. He died July 15, 1995. Surviving are a daughter, Gena Grafmiller, Upper Sandusky; three sons, Gene, Kurt and Karl, Anna; six grandchildren; three stepgrandchildren; two stepgreat-grandchildren; two sisters, Catherine Yoakam, Commerce, Texas, and Mary Blackburn, Botkins; five brothers, Vincent Zimpfer, Solvang, Calif.; Richard Zimpfer, Las Vegas; Lewis Zimpfer, Celina; Ronald Zimpfer, Sidney; and Loren Zimpfer, Anna; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by a brother, Ivan. A 1942 graduate of Anna schools, Mrs. Ehemann earned a teaching degree from Bowling Green State University in 1951. She was a teacher in the Anna, Botkins, Fort Loramie, Lima and Sidney school districts, retiring from Sidney in 1982 as an elementary art teacher. She attended St. Jacob's Lutheran Church, Anna. Mrs. Ehemann enjoyed researching family genealogy and was a spinner and weaver, giving demonstrations during special events and festivals. She also demonstrated crafts in many school systems. Mrs. Ehemann belonged to Hawg Creek Spinners and Weavers Guild, The Upper Valley Fiber Guild, Anna Work and Do Extension Club, Colonial Williamsburg Foundation and was a member of the Ohio Retired Teachers Association. Graveside services will be Tuesday at 10 a.m. in Pearl Cemetery, Swanders, with the Rev. Michael Althauser officiating. There is no visitation. Memorials may be made to Jackson Center Rescue Squad. Van Horn Funeral Home in Jackson Center is handling arrangements.

Versie Brodman

CAREY - Versie Brodman, 468 N. Sandusky Ave., died in the Intensive Care Unit at Wyandot Memorial Hospital at 10:49 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 4, 2003. She was 69. Born in Salyersville, Ky., on March 11, 1934, she was a daughter of Charlie and Della (Carty) Craft. She married Robert Young in 1961. He died in 1978. She then married David Brodman in 1980. He died in 1996. Surviving are a son, Robert Young, Placentia, Calif.; a daughter, Tammy Meeker, Upper Sandusky; three grandchildren, Kristin and Alicia Young and Kurtis Meeker; and a sister, Rosemary Osborn, Upper Sandusky. She was preceded in death by eight brothers, Ellis, Milton, Luther and Grover Craft; and four infants; and a sister, Mabel Walters. Mrs. Brodman was a baby sitter for many children in the area and worked at Kimmel Cleaners for 13 years. She was of the Baptist faith. Mrs. Brodman was a member of the Eagles Club and VFW Post No. 2842 auxiliaries, and of the Tiffin Moose Lodge. The funeral will be Wednesday at 2 p.m. at Stombaugh-Batton Funeral Home in Carey, with the Rev. Charles Steward officiating. Burial will be in Oak Hill Cemetery. Debra McCallister

Debra McCallister of County Highway 115, Upper Sandusky, died at her residence at 7:30 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 4, 2003. She was 48. Born in Fremont on Oct. 2, 1955, she was a daughter of the Rev. Robert Overmier and Phyllis (Kuenzli) Overmier. She and John McCallister were married on June 15, 1974, in John Stewart United Methodist Church in Upper Sandusky. He survives. Also surviving are her father, Syracuse, N.Y.; her mother, Upper Sandusky; a daughter, Kristen, Springfield; and two sons, Brian, Athens; and David, Kent. A 1973 graduate of Upper Sandusky High School, Mrs. McCallister earned her bachelor of education from Akron University and her master's degree from Bowling Green State University. She was a teacher in the Upper Sandusky school district with the Talented and Gifted Program. She was a member of John Stewart United Methodist Church, and served on a church mission trip to Honduras. Mrs. McCallister was a member of the Ohio Association of Gifted Children and received the 2003 Ohio Teacher of the Year Award for Talented and Gifted Children. She recently illustrated a children's book, "My Child Is Very Special." A memorial service will be held in John Stewart United Methodist Church on Saturday at 12:30 p.m. with the Rev. Wayne Geissinger officiating. Burial will be in Old Mission Cemetery. Visitation is Saturday from 11 a.m. until 12:30 p.m. at the church. Lucas Funeral Home is handling arrangements. Dominic Manion

CAREY - The Rev. Dominic Manion, OFM Conv., of St. Francis Home in Tiffin, died at Arbors of Toledo, at 5 a.m. Monday, Oct. 6, 2003, at the age of 72. Born in Toledo on May 26, 1931, he was a son of John P. and Creda B. (O'Neill) Manion. Surviving are two sisters, Mary Shroyer and Joan Ray-Riley, both of Toledo; and Michael, Toledo. Manion entered the seminary in 1948 at Mount St. Francis Seminary in New Albany, Ind. He took his solemn vow on July 11, 1955, at the Assumption Seminary in Chaska, Minn. His ordination took place in St. Paul Cathedral, St. Paul, Minn., by Archbishop William O'Brady on Feb. 21, 1960. Manion began his ministry in 1960 as associate pastor of St. Anthony in Clarkville, Ind. He became associate director of retreats in 1968 in Carey. From 1972-76, he was Vicar Provincial at Province of Our Lady of Consolation in Mount St. Francis. In 1979, he was named Provincial Custos of Our Lady of Guadalupe in Custody, N.M., and held that position until 1985. Manion spent the majority of his ministry in the southwest United States at the Diocese of Los Crucis, N.M. He enjoyed telling stories and organizing parties. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the Basilica of Our Lady of Consolation in Carey, with the Rev. Leo Kennedy officiating. Burial will be in the Friar's Cemetery in New Albany. Visitation is at the basilica from 9-11 a.m. Wednesday. Memorials may be made to the Franciscan Mission Association.

John Nash

FOREST - John W. Nash, formerly of Forest, and more recently of The Corinthian in Kenton, died at Hardin Memorial Hospital, Kenton, at 6:40 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 7, 2003. He was 85. Born in Flushing, N.Y., on Dec. 5, 1917, he was a son of Leslie A. and Betty (James) Nash. He married Anne C. Byrne on Dec. 15, 1967. She died Aug. 3, 2003. Surviving are a stepdaughter, Diane Cramer, Forest; two stepsons, Robert Wickham, Wading River, N.Y.; and Gerald Wickham, Foundation Wells, Ariz.; six stepgrandchidlren; and six stepgreat-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a sister. Mr. Nash served in the U.S. Navy in the Pacific during World War II. He later was a quality control inspector for Rotating Components Co. in Long Island, N.Y. There are no local services, and Shields Funeral Home in Forest, is handling arrangements. Burial will be in Long Island, N.Y. Memorials may be made to the humane society or St. Jude's research.

Eva Clark

CAREY - Eva Nell Clark, formerly of Mount Blanchard and more recently of Youngs-town, died at Northside Hospital, Youngstown, at 10:40 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 8, 2003. She was 90. Born in Hancock County on July 30, 1913, she was a daughter of Lawrence and Carrie (Wise) Cole. She married Ralph H. Clark on July 11, 1937. He died July 29, 1987. Surviving are four sons, James and Roger, both of Mount Blanchard; M. Wayne, Phoenix, Ariz.; and Don, Midland, Mich.; two daughters, Barbara Zetterquist, Girard; and Debra Stofiel, Kansas City, Mo.; 12 grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a brother, Russell Cole; and a sister, Varra Himes. A graduate of Mount Blanchard High School, Mrs. Clark received her bachelor's degree from Bowling Green State University. She retired from the Riverdale school system as an elementary teacher. She attended Mount Blanchard United Methodist Church. Mrs. Clark was a member of the United Methodist Women and Blanchard Valley Hospital Women's Auxiliary. She was a former member of the Pythian Sisters in Mount Blanchard. The funeral will be Sunday at 3 p.m. at Stombaugh-Batton Funeral Home in Carey, with the Rev. Karen Fourman officiating. Burial will be in Lee Cemetery in Vanlue. Visitation is at the funeral home Saturday from 5-8 p.m. and for an hour prior to the service on Sunday. Estella Rank

CAREY - Estella M. Rank, 531 S. Patterson St., Carey, died at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 8, 2003, at St. Vincent Medical Center in Toledo. She was 72. Born in Detroit, on March 13, 1931, she was a daughter of Arnold C. and Bertha (Otto) Jager. She and Richard A. Rank were married on Dec. 17, 1949. He died Aug. 27, 1978. Surviving are three sons, Thomas and Alvin, Carey; and Richard, Tiffin; and two daughters, Debra Frankart, Tiffin; and Tamara Rank, Sandusky; nine grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and a sister, Joyce Jager, Bradenton, Fla. She was preceded in death by a brother, Alvin Jager; and a sister, Edna Miller. Mrs. Rank retired from Ames Department Store in Tiffin. She attended Christ Evangelical Lutheran Church in Carey, and enjoyed spending time with her children and grandchildren. The funeral will be Saturday at 11 a.m. at Christ Evangelical Lutheran Church with the interim pastor Andrea Starn officiating. Burial will be in Spring Grove Cemetery, Carey. Visitation is at Stombaugh-Batton Funeral Home, Carey, from 2-9 p.m. today, and for an hour prior to the service at the church. Lillian Myers

CAREY - Lillian D. "Fats" Myers, 608 West St., Carey, died at Fairhaven Retirement and Health Care Community at 1:35 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 9, 2003, at the age of 85. A daughter of Augustus and Nellie (Herrick) Kitzler, she was born in Carey on Jan. 20, 1918. She married Russell H. Myers on Nov. 23, 1935. He died Aug. 15, 1984. Surviving are two sons, Bill and Bob, Carey; 10 grandchildren; and 20 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by two sons, Ralph "Butch" and Russell "Gene"; and a sister, Mary Kitzler. In 1980, Mrs. Myers retired from Porcelain Products in Carey. She was of the Methodist faith. Mrs. Myers was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary and of the VFW Auxiliary. The funeral will be Monday at 11 a.m. at Stombaugh-Batton Funeral Home, Carey, with the Rev. James Sharrett officiating. Burial will be in Spring Grove Cemetery, Carey. Visitation is at the funeral home Sunday from 6-9 p.m. and from 9-11 a.m. Monday. Memorials may be made to Hospice of Wyandot County in care of Stombaugh-Batton Funeral Home, 225 W. Terry Hunt

Terry L. Hunt, County Road 38, Upper Sandusky, died at his home, at 3:30 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 11, 2003. He was 57. A son of Dean and Rosa (Gillum) Hunt, he was born in Fostoria on Jan. 14, 1946. He and Gisela C. Graw were married in Fostoria on Dec. 23, 1965. She survives. Also surviving are a son, Stacy, Findlay; a daughter, Dana, Kenton; two grandchildren, Logan White and Justine Hunt; three brothers; two sisters; and an aunt, Maxine Archer, Upper Sandusky. A 1964 graduate of Fostoria High School, Mr. Hunt attended Tiffin University. He served in the U.S. Marine Corps during the Vietnam War as a staff sergeant. Mr. Hunt worked at Liqui-Box Corp. He formerly worked at Guardian Industries for 12 years as an engineer technician. Prior to that, he worked for more than 17 years with Ohio Bell as a telecommunications repairman. Mr. Hunt was a member of American Legion Post No. 225 and AMVETS Post No. 777. He enjoyed golfing, fishing, stamp collecting, flower and vegetable gardening, watching all sports and spending time with his grandchildren. The funeral will be Tuesday at 8 p.m. at Lucas Funeral Home in Upper Sandusky, with the Rev. Cathy Wirth officiating. Visitation will be from 5-8 p.m. at the funeral home. After the services, Mr. Hunt will be cremated. Jeanna Cover

BUCYRUS - Jeanna P. Cover, Bucyrus, died Sunday morning, Oct. 12, 2003, at Riverside Hospital in Columbus, at the age of 80. Born Feb. 10, 1923, in Upper Sandusky, she was a daughter of John and Perle (DeBolt) Karcher. She was married June 8, 1940, to Dwight Cover. He survives. Also surviving are a daughter, Betty Weaver, Pickerington; two sons, James, Bucyrus; and Donald, Galion; many grandchildren and great-grandchildren; two brothers, John Karcher, Bucyrus; and Alan Karcher, Tiffin; and two sisters, Nola Dunlap, Sycamore; and Fay Brunton, Columbus. Mrs. Cover lived in Bucyrus her entire life, and was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church. Private funeral services will be held Tuesday, and burial will be in Brokensword Cemetery. Elizabeth Wilson

BUCYRUS - Elizabeth M. Wilson, 87, of Nevada, died early Monday morning at Fairhaven Retirement and Health Care Community in Upper Sandusky. She was born in Crawford County to Lloyd and Hulda (Denzer) Lecrone, and on July 18, 1936, she married Clifford G. Wilson. He died March 16, 1994. Surviving are three daughters, Phyllis Tschanen, Nevada; Pauline Schiefer, Delaware; and Joan Harden, Newark; seven grandchildren, Debbie Gifford, Sycamore; Amy Burkhart, Bucyrus; Beth Christman, Nevada; Wendy Banks, Delaware; Julie McKenzie, Delaware; Darlene Jury, Upper Sandusky; and Sheri Stiger, Sycamore; numerous great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and a sister, Marjorie Gregg, Amsterdam. She was preceded in death by a brother, Paul Lecrone; and a sister, Martha Haynam. A 1933 graduate of Holmes-Liberty, Mrs. Wilson and her husband co-owned Wilson's Locker Plant for several years. After that closed, she worked as a nurse's aide at Wyandot Memorial Hospital for 25 years before retirement. She was a member of the Oceola United Methodist Church, and was involved in Truth Seekers. Mrs. Wilson was a member and a past matron of the Order of Eastern Star Chapter 3, the Harmony Club and was a former member of the Holmes Liberty Community Club. The funeral will be Thursday at 10:30 a.m. at Wise Funeral Service, Bucyrus, with the Rev. Pat Fruth officiating. Burial will be in Nevada Cemetery. Visitation is at the funeral home from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Wednesday, with an Eastern Star service at 6:45 p.m. Memorials may be made to Wyandot Memorial Hospital or Fairhaven Retirement and Health Care Community in care of Wise Funeral Service, 129 W. Gale Musselman Sr.

FOREST - Gale C. Musselman Sr., 18195 CR 20, Forest, died at his home at 2:55 a.m. Monday, Oct. 13, 2003. He was 65. Born in Hardin County on April 24, 1938, he was a son of Dale N. and Virginia A. (Gunnett) Musselman. He and Wanda L. Stewart were married on Sept. 28, 1962. She survives. Also surviving are three sons, Gale Jr., Delaware; William, Forest; and Jason, Kenton; eight grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and a brother, Dale, Forest. A 1956 graduate of Forest High School, Mr. Musselman retired from A.O. Smith in Upper Sandusky in 1998. He was a former employee of McBride Furniture Co. in Forest. He was a member of the Marseilles Presbyterian Church and a former member of the First Presbyterian Church in Forest. Mr. Musselman was a Hardin Hospice Care volunteer and a former member of the Forest Lions Club. He served in the Ohio National Guard for six years, and was discharged as a staff sergeant. The funeral will be Thursday at 11 a.m. at Shields Funeral Home in Forest, with the Revs. Linda Hendrian and Rex Roth officiating. Burial will follow in Hueston Cemetery, Forest. Visitation is Wednesday from 2-8 p.m. at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to Hardin Hospice Care, Hardin County Cancer Society or to the organization of the donor's choice.
