Alabama School Yearbooks by State and County

Richard Baker

Richard F. Baker of rural Upper Sandusky, died at 8 a.m. Sunday, Aug. 1, 2004, at Fairhaven Retirement and Health Care Community. He was 76.
Born in Wyandot County on June 19, 1928, he was a son of William F. and Clara E. (Ulrich) Baker. He married Norma Rowland on July 17, 1948, in Newport, Ky. She survives.
Also surviving are two sons, Kevin and Kraig, Upper Sandusky; two daughters, Marsha McDonald, Marion; and Lorrie Baker, Columbus; three grandchildren, Fernandá McDonald, Karmá McDonald and Ian Baker; and two great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a brother, Glenn; and four sisters, Laura Baker, Luella Swartz, Nellie Miller and Arlene Scribner.
A 1947 graduate of Salem High School, Mr. Baker worked at Claycraft Co. for 37 1/2 years. He also owned and operated Baker's Party Store for many years with his wife. He was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War.
He was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church.
Mr. Baker was a life member and past commander of both American Legion Post No. 225 and VFW Post No. 2842. He was a member of AMVETS Post No. 777 and Upper Sandusky Lions Club, and a former member of Moose Lodge No. 1093, Eagles Club and Sportsmen's Club, all in Upper Sandusky. He enjoyed playing softball and had played for Baker's Party Store, Upper Merchants and Baldrich Tire and Battery. Mr. Baker also enjoyed golfing, bowling, gardening, tending to his fruit trees and spending time with his grandchildren.
The funeral will be Thursday at 11 a.m. at Lucas Funeral Home with the Rev. Charles Steward officiating. Burial will be in Old Mission Cemetery, where various service organizations will conduct military graveside rites. Visitation is at the funeral home from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Wednesday.
Memorials may be made to the Diabetes Foundation or the organization of the donor's choice in care of Lucas Funeral Home, PO Box 207, Upper Sandusky OH 43351.

Clayton Stamp

FOSTORIA - Clayton " Curly" Stamp, 80, of Fostoria, died at 3:38 a.m. Monday, Aug. 2, 2004, at Fostoria Community Hospital.
Born Feb. 10, 1924, in West Liberty, Ky., he was a son of Will and Amy (Henson) Stamp. He married Hazle Henning on Dec. 16, 1973. She survives.
Also surviving are a son, Douglas, Marion; two stepsons, Rick DeGood, Paulding; and Gary DeGood, Tustin, Mich.; three stepdaughters, Denise Lange, Williamston, Mich.; Dee Becker, Okemos, Mich.; and Debbie Reichert, Erie, Pa.; 14 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and a sister, Jean DeRose, Hammonton, N.J. He was preceded in death by three brothers, Drew, Clarence and Roger.
A 1942 graduate of Moore Township High School in Farmer City, Ill., Mr. Stamp retired in 1985 as a millwright from Ohio Farmers/Countrymark in Fostoria after 17 years of work.
He was a member of First Presbyterian Church, Upper Sandusky.
Mr. Stamp was a life member of Upper Sandusky Elks Lodge, and also was a member of the Moose Lodge, American Legion, AMVETS and United Sportsmen Club, all in Fostoria.
The funeral will be Thursday at 10:30 a.m. at the Mann-Hare Funeral Home in Fostoria. Burial will follow in Knollcrest Gardens, Arcadia. Visitation is Wednesday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at the funeral home.
Memorials may be made to the organization of the donor's choice.

Mabel LaMont

Mabel V. LaMont, 109 Reservoir Road, Upper Sandusky, died at St. Vincent’s Mercy Hospital in Toledo at 3:40 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 3, 2004. She was 71.
Born in Grayson, Ky., on Feb. 19, 1933, she was a daughter of Clarence and Samantha (Isaacs) Church. She married Sidney LaMont in Kellogsville on May 28, 1952. He survives.
Also surviving are her mother in Plain City; four children, Kathy Garrison, Doug, Jeffrey and Steven LaMont, Upper Sandusky; nine grandchildren; one great-grandchild; three sisters, Margaret, Alice and JoAnn; and five brothers, James, Henry, Fred, William and Jerry Church. She was preceded in death by a sister, Mary Slack.
A 1952 graduate of Kingsville High School, Mrs. LaMont was a homemaker and had worked at Pre Mex in Kingsville. She retired from A.O. Smith in Upper Sandusky. She attended St. Paul Lutheran Church.
Mrs. LaMont was a former member of the Eagles, Moose and VFW auxiliaries. She enjoyed plants and flowers, gardening, bowling, crocheting and reading.
Graveside services will be Friday at 2:30 p.m. in Greenlawn Cemetery, North Kingsville, with her brother and sister, Jerry and Alice, officiating. Visitation is at Bringman-Clark and Co. Funeral Home from 6-8 p.m. Thursday.

Mabel Schoenberger

Mabel F. Schoenberger, 87, died at 2:35 p.m. Saturday, July 31, 2004, at Sunrise Place, Worthington. She was formerly of 336 Summit St., Upper Sandusky.
Born in Jackson Township on Jan. 14, 1917, she was a daughter of Roy and Edith (Williams) March. On Dec. 31, 1941, she married Paul Schoenberger in Lima. He died Nov. 8, 1996.
Surviving are two sons, Gary, Upper Arlington; and Timothy, Dublin; a daughter, Kathy Johnson, Upper Arlington; six grandchildren, Jason, Scott and Susan Schoenberger; Elizabeth, Andrea and Ashley Johnson; and a great-grandchild. Pre-ceding her in death were three brothers, Roy, Glenn and John March; and three sisters, Marguerite Wallace, Helen March and Donna Rish.
Mrs. Schoenberger was a 1934 graduate of Forest High School. She was in the first graduating class at Bowling Green State University, where she received her diploma in elementary education in 1936. For nine years, she taught grades three and four in Salem Elementary School; then was a substitute teacher in Upper Sandusky schools for 25 years.
A member of North Salem Lutheran Church, she was a WELCA member and served as the financial secretary for the church for 20 years. She served as a volunteer with the American Cancer Society and Red Cross bloodmobiles.
The funeral was Tuesday at Bringman-Clark and Co. Funeral Home with the Rev. Tim Schmidt officiating. Burial was in Old Mission Cemetery.
Memorials may be made to North Salem Lutheran Church, Alzheimer’s Associa-tion or an organization of the donor’s choice in care of Bringman-Clark and Co. Funeral Home, PO Box, 246, Upper Sandusky OH 43351.

Della Higgins

CAREY - Della Higgins, 14479 CH 3, Carey, died at her residence at 4:40 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 4, 2004. She was 103.
Born in Salyersville, Ky., on Dec. 17, 1900, she was a daughter of Samuel J. and Nancy Lee (Brock) Caldwell. She and Troy Higgins were married April 28, 1916. He died Aug. 12, 1985.
Surviving are five daughters, Maggie Luzader, Thelma Duffield, Mona Taylor and Opal Morrison, Carey; and Ann Schalk, New Riegel; 40 grandchildren; 96 great-grandchildren; and 73 great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by four sons, John, Lacy, Robert and infant Grover Higgins; two grandsons; a great-grandson; six brothers; and two sisters.
Mrs. Higgins was a homemaker who loved her garden and flowers.
She was affiliated with the Baptist church.
The funeral will be Saturday at 11 a.m. at Stombaugh-Batton Funeral Home in Carey, with the Rev. Bill Mahan officiating. Burial will be in Spring Grove Cemetery, Carey. Visitation is at the funeral home from 2-9 p.m. Friday.

Dennis Crace

CAREY - Dennis Crace, 531 S. Patterson St., Carey, died at 5:58 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 3, 2004, at Blanchard Valley Regional Health Center in Findlay. He was 83.
Mr. Crace was born Jan. 23, 1921, in Ivyton, Ky., to William and Nellie (Patrick) Crace. He married Gertrude Adams May 20, 1946 in Ivyton, and she died Dec. 7, 1994.
Surviving are four sons, Bobby, Gary and Steven, all of Findlay; and Dennis Mark, Carey; five daughters, Donna Crace, Carey; Debbie Tong, Tazwell, Tenn.; Darlene LaRoche, Denise Crace, both of Findlay; and Lisa Pauley, Dunkirk; 22 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; one sister, Lucy Craft, Fostoria; and one brother, Ralph, Carey. He was preceded in death by a grandson, David Tong; two sisters, Ethel Kimball and Bessie Marshall; and five brothers, Estill, Harman, Raymond, Edison and infant Curtis Crace.
Mr. Crace retired from Whirlpool Corp. in Findlay in 1984, after 16 years. Prior to that he worked at Atlas Crankshaft in Fostoria, and at Porcelain Products in Carey for 20 years.
He was an Army veteran, serving during World War II in the Eur-opean The-ater, and was a hunt-er and gardener. He was a member of Lighthouse Pentecostal Church of God, Carey.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Friday at the Lighthouse Pentecostal Church of God, Carey, with the Revs. Bobby Turner and Billy Turner officiating. Burial will be in Zion Bloom Cemetery, Vanlue, where local veterans’ organizations will conduct military graveside rites. Visitation is from 3-9 p.m. today at Stombaugh-Batton Funeral Home, Carey, and for one hour prior to the service Friday at the church.
Memorials may be made to Salyersville Historical Society in care of Stombaugh-Batton Funeral Home, 225 W. Findlay St., Carey OH 43316.

Angela Detillion

BUCYRUS - Angela Gayle (Cline) Detillion, 33, of Bucyrus, died Tuesday, Aug. 3, 2004, at her residence.
She was born Aug. 29, 1970, in Bucyrus to the late Russell Skaggs and Gayle (Cline) Heintz Kirby.
Surviving are her lifetime partner, Mark Cox, Bucyrus; a brother, Russell Cline, Sycamore; two sisters, Melissa Claphan, Bucyrus; and Staci Gault, Forest; 11 nieces and nephews; and several aunts, uncles and cousins.
Ms. Detillion enjoyed taking long car rides, music, animals, puzzles and collecting Indian pieces. She also was a thrill-seeker.
The funeral will be Saturday at 10:30 a.m. at Munz-Pirnstill Funeral Home in Bucyrus, with the Rev. Carl Angel officiating. Burial will be in Crawford County Memory Gardens. Visitation is at the funeral home Friday from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m.
Memorials may be made to the family or Home Care Matters Hospice.

Sister Mary Cecilia Smith

FREMONT - Sister Mary Cecilia Smith, formerly Sister Mary Jovita, died Tuesday, Aug. 3, 2004, at St. Bernadine Home in Fremont. She was 88.
She was born on July 27, 1916, in Tiffin, to Eugene and Clara (Grubel) Smith. She entered the Sisters of Mercy on Jan. 6, 1936, and made Profession of Vows on Aug. 16, 1938.
Surviving are two sisters, Anna Buchman, Tiffin; and Alice Davis, Duluth, Ga. She was preceded in death by a sister, Helen Rose Gillig; and a brother, Earl Smith.
Sister Mary Cecilia began her 49 years of teaching ministry in 1940 at St. Vincent de Paul School in Toledo. She also taught in the elementary schools of St. Ann, Fremont; St. Peter, Upper Sandusky; St. Mary, Kirby; St. Catherine and St. Clement, Toledo; and Holy Angels, Sandusky. In 1970, she became a teacher at McAuley High School for 14 years. Sister Mary Cecilia also taught teachers for five summers at Edgecliff College in Cincinnati. In 1984, she went to Ascension School in Cleveland, and this was her last teaching assignment. She retired in 1989 at St. Bernadine Home.
Sister Mary Cecilia had a bachelor of arts and a bachelor of science in education from Mary Manse College in Toledo, and a master’s degree from the University of Toledo. She also had reading specialist and librarian certificates.
A Mass of the Resurrection will be offered at St. Bernadine Chapel at 11 a.m. Saturday. Burial will follow in the convent cemetery. Visitation is at St. Bernadine Home from 2-8 p.m. Friday, and until the funeral on Saturday.
Memorials may be made to the Sisters of Mercy or an or-ganization of the donor’s choice.
Keller-Ochs-Koch Funeral Home is handling arrangements.

Helen Leep

LONGWOOD, Fla. - Helen Frances (Bower) Leep, Longwood, Fla., died at 4:40 p.m. Thursday, July 29, 2004, at South Seminole Hospital in Longwood. She was 88.
Born March 21, 1916, in Upper Sandusky, she was a daughter of Orville and Fannie (Schwabel) Bower. She married Charles M. Leep on March 12, 1949, at Fort Campbell, Ky. He died Feb. 7, 1985.
Cousins, nieces and nephews survive. She was preceded in death by a sister, Mary Louise Jacobs; and a brother, Eugene Bower.
A 1934 graduate of Upper Sandusky High School, Mrs. Leep retired from 20 years of government service in the chief ledgers and report section of Fort Belvior, Va.
She was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church.
Mrs. Leep also was a member of Warpole Chapter No. 366 Order of the Eastern Star.
Baldwin Fairchild Funeral Home in Longwood is handling arrangements. Burial will be in Arlington National Cemetery in Arlington, Va.
