John Lucian Hoard
Graveside rites for John Lucian Hoard will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Rose Hill Cemetery with the Rev. Dan Patman officiating.
John Lucian Hoard, 75, died at his home in Ardmore, Okla., on Sunday, June 21, 1998, following an extended illness.
He was born in Ardmore, Okla., on Feb. 16, 1923, to Lucian and Castles Jarratt Hoard.
John attended Ardmore schools, graduating from Ardmore High School in 1941. He entered the University of Oklahoma in the fall of 1941, was a member of Sigma Chi fraternity, and graduated in May of 1944 with a degree in geological engineering.
Upon graduation, he was commissioned an ensign in the U.S. Navy, serving in the Pacific for the remainder of World War II until his discharge as a lieutenant (j.g.) on Aug. 1, 1946.
After completing his military duty, John began working with Kirkpatrick and Bale, an oil company, in Oklahoma City in 1946. When the company split in 1950 he went with Kirkpatrick Oil Co., where he remained until August of 1952. He left to form his own company with G.D. Spradlin, and they moved their business to Ardmore later that year. He and Mr. Spradlin dissolved their partnership in 1960, and John remained active as an independent producer in the Ardmore area until his death. In addition to his work in the oil industry, he also ventured into copper mining from 1965 to 1975.
In 1956, John's article on the Tussy Sector of the Tatums Field was published in the AAPG Bulletin, an international magazine. He was a longtime member of the American Association of Petroleum Geologists, the Independent Petroleum Association of America, Oklahoma Independent Petroleum Association and an honorary life-member of the Ardmore Geological Society. He was also instrumental in founding the Ardmore Electric Log Library.
John married Lois Virginia Engle on Oct. 23, 1948.
He is survived by his wife, of nearly 50 years, Lois; a son, John Garth Hoard, and friend, Freddie Ann McMillan, of Lone Grove; a daughter, Cameron Hoard Potter; son-in-law, Greg M. Potter; and three grandchildren, Keegan, Kelsey, and Kira Potter, all of Edmond, Okla.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Oklahoma Medical Research Foundation or the charity of their choice.
Harvey-Douglas Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

James Wise
FLETCHER -- Services for James W. Wise, 90, were today at Robbins Funeral Chapel with Elder Janice Erlandson officiating. Interment was at Paradise Valley Cemetery.
Wise died June 21, 1998, in Lawton. He was born Oct. 17, 1907, in Cooperton.
He worked for City Service Oil Co. more than 40 years before he retired in 1970.
Survivors include his wife, Irene, of the home; two sons, Doy, Wilson, and Richard, Dallas; two daughters, Jolene Hawkins and Barbara Dickson, Portland, Ore.; two brothers, Coy, Oilton, and Eugene, Oklahoma City; 12 grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren.

Michael D. Williams
WYNNEWOOD -- Services for Michael Don Williams, 20, will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at the Assembly of God Church in Wynnewood. Interment will be at Oaklawn Cemetery under the direction of DeArman's Funeral Home.
Williams died June 20, 1998, in Wilson. He was born July 14, 1977, at Lawton.
He attended school at Wynnewood and Wilson, where he was employed by Turner Roustabout Service.
He is survived by his daughter, Mercadez Williams, Topeka, Kan.; his parents, Jim and Clara Blankenship, Wynnewood; four brothers, Richard Blankenship II, Houston, Patrick Blankenship, Lindsay, Donnie and Jeff Blankenship, Wynnewood; grandparents, Ralph and Beatrice Blankenship, Wynnewood, and Albert and Annie Williams, Wilson.

Hubert L. Gilbert
DAVIS -- Graveside rites for Hubert L. Gilbert will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Green Hill Cemetery with the Rev. Lin Jones officiating.
Gilbert died June 22, 1998, in the Ardmore hospital. He was born Oct. 31, 1918, at Hennepin, to John E. and Mary J. Veal Gilbert.
He moved to Davis 16 years ago from Texas and was a truck driver for Conoco Oil Co. He and Hazel Frantz were married Nov. 16, 1941, in Arizona. She preceded him in death Aug. 24, 1997.
Survivors include a daughter, Mary Joyce Click, Davis; five sisters, Inez Coffey and Delcine Young, Davis, June Hickman, Sulphur, Patsy Riley, Rosedale, and Clara Wallace, Oklahoma City; two brothers, Norman, Joy, and Jake, Hennepin; six grandsons; 11 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.
Fox Funeral Home will direct services.

Alfred E. Glenn
MADILL -- Services for Alfred Eugene Glenn, 64, will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at Watts Memorial Chapel with John White officiating. Interment will be at Mannsville Cemetery.
Glenn died June 22, 1998, at his residence after a sudden illness. He was born Nov. 7, 1933, at Madill, to Ellis and Bessie Draper Glenn
Reared at Tyler, he had lived at Mannsville most of his life and was a terminal manager for Total Refinery before he retired. He was an Army veteran and member of First Baptist Church. He and LaVerne James were married July 18, 1959, at Ardmore.
Survivors include his wife, of the home; a son, Terry; and daughter, Vicki Glenn, Mannsville; two brothers, Kenneth, Ardmore, and John, Lone Grove; a sister, Charlsey Koerner, Lubbock, Texas; and two grandsons.
Bearers will be Bill Talkington, Bill Godwin, Dean Copeland, Bill Dorer, Dennis and Frank James. Honorary bearers are all his horse trading buddies.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 8 tonight at the funeral home.

Johanna M. Lawrence
SULPHUR -- Services for Johanna Marie Lawrence, 75, will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at Calvary Baptist Church with the Rev. James Swain officiating. Interment will be at Oaklawn Cemetery under the direction of Clagg Funeral Home.
Mrs. Lawrence died June 23, 1998, in Ardmore. She was born Aug. 11, 1922, in Pauls Valley, to Albert F. and Clara Mundkosky Weeks.
Reared in Pauls Valley and Wynnewood, she had lived in Sulphur the past 51 years and was a member of Calvary Baptist Church. She and Orval D. Lawrence were married June 7, 1940, at Wynnewood. He preceded her in death April 19, 1983.
Survivors include two daughters, Patsy McCarley, Sulphur, and Virginia Hinson, Decatur, Texas; a son, Dwight, Pryor; three sisters, Zelma Baker, Chowchilla, Calif., Agatha Nelms and Annie Davis, Wynnewood; six grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.

Lillian J. Smith
WYNNEWOOD -- Graveside rites for Lillian Juanita Smith, Davis, will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at Oaklawn Cemetery with the Rev. Finis Steelman officiating.
Mrs. Smith died June 23, 1998, at her home in Davis. She was born Sept. 29, 1917.
She is survived by a son, Jackie, Davis; and daughter, Joan Graves, California.
Fox Funeral Home will direct services.

Clifford J. Mackey
HEALDTON -- Memorial services for Clifford J. Mackey, 71, will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Reser Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Hurshel Baker officiating.
Mackey died June 25, 1998, at his home following a brief illness. He was born to Franklin and Clovis Farr Mackey Dec. 16, 1926, at Milo.
He moved to Fillmore, Calif., at age 15 and served with the Navy in the Pacific during World War II. He married Betty Jo Hogg Jan. 22, 1951, at Lovington, N.M., and lived in Fillmore until he retired in 1991 and moved to Fox. He was a former packaging maintenance supervisor for Stokely-Van Camp and Oxnard Frozen Foods. He was a life member of VFW.
Survivors include his wife, of the home; a daughter, Judy Hill, Acme, Wash.; six sons, Dan, Lihue, Hawaii, David, Ventura, Calif., Dwayne, Los Banos, Calif., Robert, Waianae, Hawaiil, Charles, Fort Worth, Texas, and Kenneth, Milo; a brother, Leon, Bakersfield, Calif.; a sister, Flossie Cable, Walla Walla, Wash.; 24 grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren.
Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society or Cross Timbers Hospice.

Samuel L. Green Jr.
MARIETTA -- Services for Samuel Logan Green Jr., 70, Hudson, Fla., will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Kennedy Funeral Home chapel with Ray Hilliard officiating. Interment will be at Lakeview Cemetery.
Green died June 24, 1998, in Tampa, Fla. He was born June 9, 1928, to Samuel L. and Maud Davis Green, at Morehead, Ky..
An Air Force veteran, he had lived in Hudson the past three years and was a retired custodian for the San Diego County school system. He and Lenore Green were married March 28, 1966, at Las Vegas, Nev. She died Sept. 10, 1990.
Survivors include a son, Robert, Santa Ana, Calif.; daughter, Barbara Lucas, Marietta; brother, Jim, Hudson; three sisters, Leona Warren, Harrodsburg, Ky., Shirley Farris, Riverside, Calif., and Janice Bettes, Santa Rosa, Calif.; three grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
Bearers will be Dave Lucas, T.J. McCrite, Eric Henderson, Scott Flanagan, Jerald Farnsworth and Greg Hambrick. Honorary bearer is Bill Hume.
The family will receive friends this evening from 7 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.

Rev. Charles Avery
DAVIS -- Services for the Rev. Charles Avery will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at Fox Funeral Chapel with the Revs. M. E. Griffin and Ernest Rudd officiating. Interment will be at Oakridge Cemetery.
Avery died June 21, 1998, at his home in Davis. He was born Nov. 27, 1922, at Terrell, Texas, to the Rev. Allen and Ruth Baxter Avery.
He had lived in this area since 1989 and was a minister of the AME Church. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Jacqulyne Holloway; a brother, R.L. Washington; and sister, Bernice Hill.
Survivors include four sons, Ronald Holloway, James E., Jerry and Ernest L. Rudd; a daughter, Annie F. Hider; and sister, Ida Banks, all of Dallas; several grandchildren; and great-grandchildren.

Joyce Cantrell
Graveside rites for longtime Healdton resident Joyce Cantrell will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Rose Hill Cemetery in Ardmore with Bill Guymon officiating.
Mrs. Cantrell died June 27, 1998, at a Healdton health care facility. She was born to J.Q. and Eula Benton Wilkinson at Wirt, and had lived in the Healdton area all her life.
She graduated from Dundee High School and attended Central State College. Active in school and community affairs, she was a member of Shell Street Church of Christ, Tea Cart, Bridge Club and Study Club. She was also a member and secretary of the Healdton Hospital Board. She and Reynolds Cantrell were married March 12, 1932, at Cushing. He preceded her in death Feb. 17, 1981.
Survivors include a daughter, Mary Lynn Hendricks, Overland Park, Kan.; a son, Reynolds, Waurika; a sister, Pauline McDaniels, Joplin, Mo.; eight grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
Honorary bearers will grandchildren, Laura Shaw, Brett, Brian, Patrick and Charles Hendricks Jr., Bradley, David and Reynolds Cantrell IV.
Memorials may be made to the Healdton Hospital.
Reser Funeral Home will direct services.

Monroe L. Turner
ENVILLE -- Services for Monroe Lawrence Turner, 84, will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Enville Community Church with Larry Landress, Anthony Randol and Larry Johnson officiating. Interment will be at Lakeview Cemetery.
Turner died June 28, 1998, at a Marietta health care facility. He was born April 19, 1914, at Binger, to James M. and Susie Simmons Turner.
He moved from Wynnewood to Love County in 1973 and was a retired heavy equipment operator for Imperial Construction of Dallas. He attended the Pentecostal Holiness church. He and Elouise Short were married Jan. 18, 1934, in Oklahoma City. He was preceded in death by his wife on Nov. 29, 1996; four sisters; and two brothers.
Survivors include four sons, Archie, Pottsboro, Texas, Melvin, Wynnewood, Elvin, Marietta, and Jimmy Dale, Lexington; three daughters, Patsy Turner, Okmulgee, Sharon McCrory, Pottsboro, Texas, and Janis Blankenship, Pauls Valley; a brother, Noble, Marietta; 38 grandchildren; 80 great-grandchildren; and 15 great-great-grandchildren.
Grandsons will serve as bearers.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Kennedy Funeral Home.

Alene Champ
WILSON -- Graveside rites for Alene Champ, 77, will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Hewitt Cemetery with the Rev. Raymond Norton and Roy Clayton officiating.
Mrs. Champ died June 28, 1998, in Wilson. She was born Jan. 3, 1921, at Cove, Ark., to Jessie L. and Arlie L. Weeks Hollingsworth.
Reared in Arkansas, she came to Oklahoma as a teenager and lived in Oklahoma City 22 years before moving to Wilson in 1974. She was employed by the Bank of Wilson 15 years. She was preceded in death by a son, Floyd Hill, in 1973; and two sisters, Melvelean Hunt and Evelean Dearmon.
Survivors include her husband, Harold, Wilson; three daughters, Barbara Buttles, Notasulga, Ala., Alice Roberts and Leona Clayton, Wilson; two sons, Jessie Hill, Wilson, and Boyd Hill, Yukon; a sister, Edith Groseclose, Indianapolis, Ind.; a brother, Billy Butler, Ardmore; 10 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and a great-great-granddaughter.
Bearers will be family members.
Alexander Funeral Home will direct services.
