Services set for Mussen at 3:45 pm
Funeral services for Colleen Mussen, age 86 of Clinton, will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the First Christian Church in Clinton with minister Doyle Kinney officiating.
Mussen died Sunday, Feb. 14, 2004, at the United Methodist Health Care Center in Clinton. She was born on Feb. 27, 1917 in Lockney, Texas, the daughter of James Randolph and Carrie Emiline (Mayer) Compton.

She grew up in Waynoka, graduating there in 1933. She later attended Northwestern Oklahoma State University at Alva, majoring with a degree in Music.

After her marriage to Forrest Albert Mussen on July 11, 1936 in Taloga, they moved to Clinton in 1940.

Mussen worked for the City of Clinton, First National Bank and later was a secretary for the Federal Land Bank, retiring in 1983.

She was a member of the Clinton Business Women and a 50-year member of the Eastern Star. She also was a volunteer at Integris Clinton Regional Hospital. She enjoyed bridge and traveling.

Arrangements are under the direction of the Kiesau-Marler Funeral Home in Clinton.

Survivors include her daughters, Janet Sue Ross and her husband, Lanny, of Clinton, Frances Ann Clark and her husband, Chuck, of Centennial, Colo.; grandchildren, Karie K. Ross Dombrowski and her husband, Dave, Jeffrey L. Ross and his wife, Amy, Paula Sue Clark Jones and her husband, Eric, Randy A. Clark and his wife, Roslyn; great grandchildren, Darbi Rose Dombrowski, Landon R. Dombrowski, Annakate Eliza Ross, Carson Eric Jones; a niece, Mosene Conley; nephews, Vic Mussen and his wife, Peach, Gary Mussen and his wife, Donna, Jimmy Waterman, Jr.

Preceding her in death were her husband, Forrest Albert Mussen; poarents, J.R. and Carrie Compton; sisters, Ara Cross Wood, Carma Alice Waterman; and a brother, Larkin Randolph Compton.

The family suggests that those who desire may make memorial contributions in her honor to the United Methodist Health Care Center Employee Fund at 2316 W. Modelle Ave., Clinton, OK 73601.

John Roach rites Friday at 3:44 pm
Graveside services for John Pershing Roach, age 85, will be held at 2:30 p.m. Friday at the Okmulgee Cemetery with family members officiating.
Roach died Saturday, Feb. 14, 2004, at the United Methodist Health Care Center in Clinton. He was born on Aug. 29, 1918 at Okmulgee, the son of Charles and Mary Alliene (Cobb) Roach.

After graduating from Okmulgee High School in 1936, he began his working career with his father at the Roach Feed and Seed Store.

He enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1941, serving during World War II, training pilots in Link Trainers at Bakersfield, Calif. He was honorably discharged in 1945 at the rank of staff sergeant.

In the fall of 1944 he married Lois Fell and after his military service the young couple made their home in Okmulgee.

In 1956, he began working for the Coleman Company as a salesman while living in Kansas.

He was transferred to Oregon where he later opened Roach Hardware Store.

In 1968 he married Patricia Goodlow. After her retirement they moved to Albuquerque, N.M. and he worked in a men’s clothing store.

Patricia preceded him in death in 1999 and he moved to Clinton to be near his cousin, Martha Thornbrough and her husband, Johnny, who later died.

Roach had been a resident of the United Methodist Health Care Center for the past three years. Also preceding him in death was a brother, Charles David Roach.

Arrangements are under the direction of the Stanley-Lee Funeral Home in Clinton.

Survivors include three nephews, John Charles Roach of Arlington, Va., Rev. David Roach of San Antonio, Texas, Peter Roach of Alamogordo, N.M.; two nieces, Karen Griffith of Potomac, Md., Linda Zwirzski of Woodbridge, Va.; a sister-in-law, Helen Ann Roach of Woodbridge, Va.; several cousins, including Ruth Baldischwiler of Oklahoma City and her children, Max and Karl of Oklahoma City, Martha Rea of Guthrie, Ann Guilioli of Okmulgee, Thomas Casady III, Mary Haiges, both of Edmond, Judy ajnd Richard Day of Great Falls, Va., Kaye and Mike Proud of Anaheim, Calif.

The family has suggested that those who desire may make memorial contributions in his honor to the United Methodist Health Care Center, 2316 Modelle Ave., Clinton, OK 73601.

Jackie Smith services held at 3:43 pm
Funeral services for Jackie Smith, age 46 of Clinton, were held Tuesday afternoon at the Custer Avenue Baptist Church in Clinton with Rev. Cameron Williams officiating.
Smith died Saturday morning, Feb. 14, 2004, at her home. She was born on Dec. 12, 1957 in Bussac, France, the daughter of Kenneth E. and Salena P. (Sexton) Boyer.

She grew up in McAlester and married Bud Smith on May 24, 1973 there. They moved to Clinton in 1979, and she worked for Collins & Aikman for a short time. She attended the Custer Avenue Baptist Church and enjoyed reading and music.

Her mother preceded her in death.

Arrangements are under the direction of the Kiesau-Marler Funeral Home in Clinton.

Survivors include her husband of 30 years, Bud Smith; brothers, David G. Boyer and his wife, Dorothy, of Eufaula, Randy Boyer and his wife, Toni, of Wellston; a sister, Jeannette Boyer of Wellston; her father, Kenneth Boyer of Wellston; her mother-in-law, Maryel Neal of West Memphis, Ark.; sisters-in-law, Lee Neal of West Memphis, Ark., Paula Karen Johnson and her husband, Henry Clinton, of Clarksville, Ark.; nieces and nephews, Valerie and Matthew Boyer, Christopher and Cregg Boyer and many other nieces and nephews.

Alvin Harris services held at 3:11 pm

Funeral services for Alvin Lynn Harris, age 33 of Burns Flat, were held Tuesday at the First Baptist Church in Foss with Dean Dereig and Dwight Shephard officiating.

Harris died Friday, Feb. 6, 2004, at his home. He was born on April 9, 1970 in Yuba City, Calif.

He was an avid fisherman and worked most of his life in the oil field.

Burial was at the Peters Cemetery in Alma, Ark.

Survivors include his wife, Stephanie Harris; seven children, Bryce, Amber, Staci, Kianna, Thomas, Patricia, Priscilla; his mother, Nappy Harris and father, Thomas Herriage; brothers, Dubber Cummins of Erick, Harvey Harris of Alma, Ark., John Harris of Mulberry, Ark.; a sister, Rebecca Oddson of Alma, Ark.; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Rena Foust funeral held at 3:10 pm

Funeral services for Rena Lee Foust, age 85 and a longtime Washita County resident, were held this afternoon at the Salem Baptist Church in Rocky with Rev. David Guthrie and Rev. Clay Hicks officiating.

Foust died Sunday morning, Feb. 8, 2004, at the Elkview General Hospital in Hobart. She was born on Sept. 1, 1918 in Tecumseh, the daughter of Daniel and Charity Ada (Woody) Gillis.

Growing up in Minco, she graduated from Minco High School in 1932. She was baptized at the age of 16 at the Little Hope Baptist Church.

She married Cecil James Foust on June 22, 1939 in Chickasha.

A homemaker, she loved to garden.

Burial was in the Lone Star Cemetery at Rocky.

Survivors include her husband, Cecil, of the home; five sons, Herman and his wife, Barbara, of Rocky, Venoy and his wife, Sarah, of Rocky, Earl and his wife, Georgia, of Clinton, David of Pensacola, Fla., Sidney of Belleville, Mich.; a daughter, Lola Hart and her husband, Don, of Rocky; a daughter-in-law, Margaret Foust of Hobart; 15 grandchildren; 21 great grandchildren; and four great great grandchildren.

Preceding her in death, in addition to her parents, were three brothers, Ernest, Estell, Tom; three sisters, Ola, Lillian, Fanny; and a grandson, David James Foust.

Opal Orgain rites slated at 3:20 pm

Funeral services for Opal Orgain, age 97 of Arapaho, will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday in the Meacham Memorial Chapel of the First Baptist Church in Clinton with Terry Brooks and Rev. Bryan Gilbert officiating.

Opal Wagnon was born on Jan. 1, 1907 in Foss, the daughter of Joel M. and Leota (Butler) Wagnon. She died late Tuesday, Feb. 10, 2004, at Integris Clinton Regional Hospital.

Orgain attended school and Clinton and worked for Dr. McBurney.

On Oct. 21, 1927 she married George L. Orgain in Elk City. They made their home in Clinton where George taught school until 1940.

They also lived in Duncan, Ardmore, Stillwater and South Texas before retiring and settling in Arapaho in 1976.

Opal was a member of the First Baptist Church and AARP where she was very active. In her spare time she enjoyed reading and embroidery. She especially enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren.

Preceding her in death were her husband, who died in 1986; three sisters, Mildred Bonham, Jewell Armstrong, Lorene Thompson; and two brothers, Fay Wagnon and Othor Wagnon.

Burial will conclude in the Arapaho Cemetery under the direction of the Stanley-Lee Funeral Home in Clinton.

Survivors include a daughter, Maralyn Howenstine and her husband, W.C., of Arapaho; a son, George Orgain, Jr. and his wife, Alice, of Denton, Texas; four grandchildren; six great grandchildren; and three greatgreat grandchildren.

The family suggests that those who desire may make memorial contributions in Opal’s memory to the First Baptist Church.

Rites slated for Hertzler at 5:11 pm
Graveside services for Esther Hertzler, age 86 of Clinton, will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday in the Brethren Cemetery at Cordell with Rev. Alvis Merrill officiating.

Hertzler died Sunday, Feb. 8, 2004, at Integris Clinton Regional Hospital. She was born on Jan. 6, 1918 at Cordell and grew up in Cordell, living most of her life there.

She worked for Johnson Insurance Co. as a bookkeeper for many years and attended the Church of the Brethren in Cordell.

Later, she moved to Clinton to be with her brother, Walter. She enjoyed quilting and going antiquing.

Survivors include five nieces and a nephew.

Preceding her in death were her parents; three brothers, Roy, Paul and Walter Hertzler; and a sister, Lydia Mills.

Brian Martin death listed at 2:25 pm

Funeral services were held earlier this month at Ocean Springs, Miss. for former Clinton resident Brian Dale Martin, age 23, it was learned here Friday.

Martin died in Ocean Springs where he was a senior at Southern Mississippi University majoring in business.

He attended kindergarten through junior high in Clinton and attended the Custer Avenue Baptist Church.

His family, Therald and Teresa Martin, now live in Sugarland, Texas. Sinsters are Mistie Copeland (Staggs) of The Woodlands, Texas and Angela Maddox (Staggs) of Gulfport, Miss.

Four nieces and a nephew include Rhaegan, Taylor and Peyton Maddox and Mikayla and Caden Copeland.

Brian Martin death listed at 2:23 pm

Funeral services were held earlier this month at Ocean Springs, Miss. for former Clinton resident Brian Dale Martin, age 23, it was learned here Friday.

Teresa Jantz rites Friday at 11:52 am
A mass of Christian Burial for Teresa Ellen Jantz, age 80 of Clinton, will be held at 2 p.m. Friday at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Clinton with Father Carl Janocha officiating.

Jantz died late Monday, Feb. 2, 2004, at Integris Clinton Regional Hospital. She was born on Feb. 23, 1923 in Harrah, the daughter of Oscar and Myrtle (Butler) Moore.

She was reared and started school in Harrah before the family moved to Weatherford where she graduated from high school in 1941.

Later moving to Clinton, she married Don Jantz in 1962. She was a member of St. Mary’s and the VFW Auxiliary.

In her younger years, she enjoyed camping with her family. She enjoyed crocheting and reading in her spare time, also enjoying spending time with her children and grandchildren.

Preceding her in death were her husband, Donald, in 1995; a son, James Thomas Glancy; two brothers, Tommy Moore and Bob Moore; and two sisters, Helen Howell and Marie Nixon.

Visitation will begin at noon on Wednesday.

Burial will conclude in the Clinton Cemetery under the direction of the Stanley-Lee Funeral Home of Clinton.

Survivors include a daughter, Patsy Williams and her husband, Gary, of Monkey Island; two sons, Randy Glancy and Terry Jantz and his wife, Shay Owen, all of Clinton; three sisters, Betty Deutschendorf and Rose Mitchusson, both of Clinton, Margaret “Tiny” Ickes of Sterling City, Calif.; seven grandchildren; six great grandchildren; a great-great grandchild; and a host of nieces and nephews.

Prickett rite held Monday at 5:04 pm

Funeral services for retired school teacher Virginia Kathleen Prickett, age 86 of Clinton, were held Monday afternoon in the chapel of the First Baptist Church in Clinton with Rev. Bryan Gilbert officiating.

Prickett died Saturday, Jan. 31, 2004, at Southwestern Memorial Hospital in Weatherford. She was born on Nov. 25, 1917 in Wayne, the daughter of Charlie Theodore and Julia Esther (Rountree) Power.

She attended the University of Oklahoma where she graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree before marrying B.P. Prickett on Oct. 14, 1939 in Purcell.

She later attended Southwestern Oklahoma State University, earning a Master Degree.

For a total of 23 years, Prickett taught school at Comanche, Anadarko, Hinton and Arapaho.

Prickett was a member of Eastern Star, AARP, Women’s Missionary Union and the Clinton First Baptist Church where she was a part of the JOY Choir and taught Sunday school.

B.P. and Virginia were founders of the Baptist Spanish Mission where they developed a very special friendship with Daniel and Marta Caceres and their family.

She enjoyed her vacations with the grandchildren and their weekly visits.

Interment was in the Page Cemetery at Burns Flat with arrangements under the direction of the KiesauMarler Funeral Home in Clinton.

Survivors include her daughters, Kay Nixon of Anadarko, Linda Megli and her husband, Max, of Alfalfa; grandchildren, Lisa Megli, Teri Boyd and her husband, Todd, Kevin Megli and his wife, Courtney, Sha Ron Martin and her husband, Dennis; great grandchildren, Taylor and Tanner Boyd, Austin and Ashton Megli, Ashtin and Aspen Martin.

Preceding her in death were her husband of almost 50 years, B.P. Prickett; her parents; two sisters, Lenora and Eula; and three brothers, Earl, Doane and Loyd.
