Jim Baker rites held at 2:26 pm
Funeral services for Jim D. Baker, age 71 of Willow, were held Thursday afternoon in the First Baptist Church of Willow with Rev. Will J. Roberts and Rev. Arol Steverson officiating.
Baker died Tuesday, Jan. 17, 2006, at Sayre Memorial Hospital. He was born on Nov. 24, 1934 in Woodward, the son of Elsie (Maupin) and Tod Ivy Baker.

Baker’s long career with Southwestern Bell started shortly after he was discharged from the Army where he served in the Korean conflict.

He started in 1955 as a lineman and advanced to the ranks of management. At the time of his retirement he held the position of Oklahoma City metro area manager of engineering design.

Jim met Travonna in late 1969, and they were married in the First Baptist Church of Weatherford on March 21, 1970. Together they reared four children.

After retiring from Southwestern Bell Jim and Travonna built a home in Willow where they resided for several years.

In 1994 he took the position of County Administrator in Hamilton County, Kan. He worked with the county commissioners and was instrumental in building an 18-hole golf course and renovating the Hamilton County Courthouse.

After serving there for two years he moved to Pioneer Electric in Ulysses, Kan. where he worked until 1997.

When the family moved back to Willow he served as mayor and spearheaded numerous community projects including building a new community center and park.

He was a member of the Willow First Baptist Church.

Baker was involved in many projects and served on numerous boards and committees throughout his life.

Preceding him in death were his parents, Tod and Elsie Baker, and his mother and father-in-law, Trav and Sudie Hatter.

Interment was in the Willow Cemetery under the direction of People’s Funeral Home of Lone Wolf

Survivors include his wife, Travonna of the home in Willow; one daughter, Kim, of Oklahoma City; three sons, Steve and wife, Roxann, of Montrose, Colo., Rod and wife, Terry, of Blue Springs, Mo. Dustin of Willow; eight grandchildren, Chelsey, Kendi,, Brittani, Nathan, Randall, Kelli, Keevan, and Kory; and great grandchildren, Emma Kate and Jordan.

The family suggests that memorial contributions may be made in Jim Baker’s honor to the Willow Community Development Project, City Hall, Willow, OK 73673.

Timberlake death listed at 2:21 pm
A memorial service for Clinton native Virginia Elizabeth Neill “Ginny” Timberlake, age 68, will be scheduled at a later date. Timberlake died Monday, January 9, 2006, in Colorado Springs, Colo. She was born in Clinton on Feb. 1, 1937, the daughter of DeWitt Talmadge and Virginia Morriss Neill.
She attended the Clinton schools through high school, graduating in 1955. Upon graduation, she studied at Oklahoma A&M College (now Oklahoma State University) before graduating from the University of Oklahoma in 1959 with a BA in journalism. While in college she became a member of the Pi Beta Phi sorority.

Married to James O. “Jim” Timberlake in 1959, she lived in Louisiana, Illinois and Montana before moving to Oklahoma City where she lived many years, working at Local Federal Savings and Loan, Continental Federal, Homer Miller Company, American Bank Systems and Charter National Bank.

She lived in Clinton for several years and worked for the Clinton Daily News and Smith Oil Company.

Preceding her in death were her parents and her former husband.

Survivors include her son, Jeff Timberlake of Tulsa; grandsons, James and William; a brother Tal Neill and his wife, Marj, of Pocatello, Idaho; and nephews Adam Neill of Las Alamos, N.M. and Michael Neill of Phoenix, Ariz.

The family suggests that memorial contributions in Timberlake’s honor may be made to Custer County Friends for Life Society animal sanctuary project.

Funeral set for Peoples at 2:21 pm
Funeral services for Clinton native Janice Elaine Peoples, age 53 of Weatherford, will be held at 2 p.m. Monday in the First Baptist Church at Weatherford with Richard Pitt officiating.
Peoples died Friday, Jan. 13, 2006, in Oklahoma City after a long battle with cancer. She was born on Jan. 2, 1953 in Clinton, the daughter of Fred and Helen (Friesen) Ballew.

Reared in the Custer City and Thomas area, she graduated from Thomas High School in 1971.

After graduation she attended Devry Business School in Oklahoma City for two years.

On Aug. 19, 1982 she married Oklahoma Highway Patrol 2 Lt. Bruce Peoples.

They made their home in Thomas until 2002 when they moved north of Weatherford.

While living in the Thomas area she worked at the Thomas Medical Clinic for 15 years.

Later she worked for Dr. Kim Arganbright’s office for 15 years as a medical receptionist and also as a Mary Kay consultant.

Burial will follow in the Mound Valley Cemetery at Thomas under the direction of the Lockstone Funeral Home.

Survivors include her husband, Bruce, of the home; her mother, Helen Ballew of Corn; sons, Dustin Rose and Justin Rose, both of Oklahoma City; and daughters, Brooke Werkoven and Paige Peoples, both of Puyallup, Wash.

Preceding her in death were her father; two brothers, C.L. Ballew and Harold Ballew; and a grandson, Harrison Peoples.

The family suggests that memorial contributions in her honor be made to the First Christian Church of Thomas.

Services set for Roberts at 1:33 pm
Funeral services for Clinton native Sammy C. Roberts, age 69 of Thomas, will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday in the First Christian Church at Thomas with Rev. Richard Pitt officiating.
Roberts died Saturday, Jan. 7, 2006, in Thomas. He was born on Oct. 24, 1936 in Clinton, the son of Samuel and Bertie (Tinsley) Roberts.

Reared in Clinton and Oklahoma City, Roberts graduated from Capital Hill High School in 1955.

He met and married Jerrye Lasiter on March 13, 1957. He served in the U.S. Army from 1955 to 1962 as a helicopter mechanic.

After the Army he worked for Halliburton’s in Farmington, N.M. before serving a second tour of duty in the Army during the Berlin Crisis.

Returning to Oklahoma, he went to work as an airplane mechanic at Expressway Air Park, later managing a TG&Y Auto Center.

In 1983 he moved to Custer City. He owned Sam and Joe’s Auto in Thomas before later working for Testco Oil Field Service as a dispatcher.

Burial will follow in the Mound Valley Cemetery in Thomas under the direction of the Lockstone Funeral Home there.

Survivors include his wife, Jerrye, of Custer City; two daughters, Donna Miller of Oklahoma City, Samantha Altland and her husband, Dayton, of Weatherford; two grandchildren, Michael Miller, Dakota Altland; and a sister, Jo Ella Dobbins of Thomas.

Preceding him in death, along with his parents, was a sister, Maxine.

The family suggests that memorial contributions in Roberts’ honor be made to the Thomas Nursing Center.

‘Cub’ Andrews rites Thursday at 1:32 pm
Funeral services for Earl Leon “Cub” Andrews, age 62 of Elk City, will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday in the First Baptist Church at Cheyenne.
Andrews died Monday night, Jan. 9, 2006, in the Elk City Nursing Home. He was born on March 18, 1943 in Elk City, the son of Mural Fred and Edith (Archer) Andrews.

Growing up in Western Oklahoma, he attended Cheyenne High School until 1962 and joined the Army, serving during the Vietnam War.

After his honorable discharge he returned to Oklahoma and married Connie Sue Mott.

He worked as a custodian at Cheyenne High School and later at a Baptist church in Tulsa.

He also worked for the Oklahoma Department of Transportation.

Andrews ended up teaming with a friend, J.D. Spitzer, to sell Christmas trees in the winter and fireworks in the summer.

He was an active member of his church.

Preceding him in death, along with his parents, were two brothers, Emery and J.E. Andrews; and two sisters, Jo Derryberry and Kizzie Marlin.

Burial will conclude in the Strong City Cemetery under the direction of the Stanley-Lee Funeral Home in Clinton.

Survivors include five sons, Eddie and his wife, Angela, Freddie and his wife, Heather, and Richard, all of Tulsa, Jessie and his wife, Katherine, of Foss, Jerry and his wife, JoAnn, of Cheyenne; 15 grandchildren; three sisters, May Parks of Elk City, Dammie Morris and her husband, Emmett, of Cheyenne, Faye Jantzen and her husband, Ed, of Lawton; two brothers, Fred of Lawton, Henry and his wife, Della Mae, of Cheyenne; and a friend, J.D. Spitzer of Kellyville.

The family has suggested that memorial contributions in Andrews’ honor be given to the funeral home to defray the funeral costs.

Ancil Moore services set at 11:00 am
Funeral services for Ancil F. Moore, age 86 of Clinton, will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday in the Cumberland Presbyterian Church in Clinton with Rev. Dale Nease and minister Doyle Kinney officiating.
Ancil Frank Moore died early Sunday, Jan. 8, 2006, at Integris Clinton Regional Hospital. He was born on Jan. 7, 1920 in Savannah, Tenn., the son of Jesse F. and Adeline “Nannie” (Willoughby) Moore.

He came to Custer County with his parents at the age of five and attended grade school at Chapel Hill and Parkersburg before graduating from Clinton High School.

On Dec. 2, 1942 he married Beatrice Cruson. He was drafted into the U.S. Army two weeks later.

Moore served in the Search Light Battalion during World War II.

After his honorable discharge he returned to Clinton and went to work at Acme Brick, retiring from the plant in 1985 after 41 years there.

He worked at the Stanley-Lee Funeral Home in Clinton for the next 15 years, retiring again in 2000.

Moore was a lifetime member of the American Legion.

Preceding him in death, along with his parents, were a brother, Kenneth; and a granddaughter, Julie Siess.

Burial will conclude in the Parkersburg Cemetery southwest of Clinton under the direction of the Stanley-Lee Funeral Home.

Survivors include his wife of 63 years, Beatrice, of the home; a son, George Moore and his wife, Judy, of Butler; four daughters, Joleen Palmer of Kansas, Coleen Laymon of San Antonio, Texas, Marsha Taylor and her husband, Ronnie, of Clinton, Sue Siess and her husband, Larry, of Tulsa; 13 grandchildren; 21 great grandchildren; a great-great grandchild; and a sister, Marge Brown of Sacramento, Calif.

Ed DeLong funeral set at 10:58 am
Funeral services for retired longtime Clinton businessman William Edward (Ed) DeLong, age 80, will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday in the First United Methodist Church at Cordell with Rev. Dale Durnell officiating.
DeLong died Sunday, Jan. 8, 2006, at the Clinton Veterans Center. He was born on Nov. 27, 1925 on the family farm south of Cordell. He spent most of his life in Custer and Washita Counties.

Upon graduation from Rocky High School he joined the U.S. Army in July of 1944, serving in the Asia Pacific Theater where he was part of the first occupation forces in Japan, earning the rank of sergeant first class.

Returning to the Cordell area, he married Billoye Joyce Lowber on Sept. 18, 1947.

He lived and farmed in the Cordell area while working for R.D. King Allis Chalmers, Jack Roan Chevrolet and Little Oldsmobile Cadillac.

In 1966 he purchased full interest in the automobile dealership in Clinton and operated Ed DeLong Pontiac Buick GMC until January of 2000 when he sold the business.

Preceding him in death were his parents; his wife, Billoye; and a sister, Mary Elaine Fite.

Interment under the direction of the McClure Funeral Home in Cordell, will follow in the Lawnview Cemetery at Cordell.

Survivors include his wife, Modean Webb DeLong of Clinton, whom he married on Feb. 14, 2004; two children, Robert DeLong and his wife, Linda, of Moore, JaLane DeLong Dunbar and her husband, Rod, of Yukon; a stepson, Phil Webb of California; a stepdaughter, Linda Dobbins of Thomas; seven grandchildren, Kyle Dunbar and Kent Dunbar of Yukon, Nathan DeLong of Edmond, Lori Linstead of Moore, Shawn Watkins of Poquoson, Va., Amber Nitzel of Calumet, Crystal Dobbins of Thomas; and four great grandchildren.

Services set for Anderson at 12:30 pm
Funeral services for James Steven Anderson, 50-year-old Glendive, Mont. resident and former Weatherford resident, will be held at 2 p.m. Monday in the chapel of the Lockstone Funeral Home in Weatherford with Rev. Rondal Killgore officiating.

Anderson died Monday, Jan. 2, 2006, in Glendive. He was born on Aug. 12, 1955 in Oklahoma City, the son of Robert Sr. and Fleda (Bradley) Anderson.

He was reared and educated in Oklahoma City and Weatherford, graduating from Weatherford High School with the class of 1973.

He came to Montana with a wheat harvesting crew. Anderson met Viola Scott in Glendive, and they were married in June of 1975.

Steve was employed by Crisafulli Pump, and later with a seismograph company until he went to work for Burlington Northern Railroad. He had been employed by the railroad for the past 30 years as a brakeman.

Anderson was a member of the Lower Yellowstone Chapter of ABATE and the Studebaker Drivers Club.Burial will follow in the Greenwood Cemetery at Weatherford.Survivors include his son, Jake (Joey) Anderson and a daughter, Cally, of Glendive; his father, Bob Anderson Sr. of Weatherford; his brother, Bob (Jaye-Lynn) Anderson Jr. of Tupelo; and his partner, Lin Nicholson of Glendive, Mont.

He was preceded in death by his mother and one sister, Lori.

Rites slated for Fergason at 1:27 pm
Funeral services for Debra Renee Fergason, age 39 of Custer City, will be held at 2 p.m., Saturday in the First United Methodist Church of Custer City with Doyle Kinney and Jeanette Stewart officiating.

Fergason died very unexpectedly Wednesday afternoon, Jan. 4, 2006, at Southwestern Memorial Hospital inWeatherford. She was born June 3, 1966 in Carnegie, the daughter of James E. and Caroline (Fite) Cotter.

Growing up in Carnegie, she finished high school there and continued her education in medical terminology and business at the Western Technology Center.

She moved to Clinton in 1988 and worked for Quick Shop, SecurityServices and Bar-S.

She married Troy Fergason on July 21, 2000, in Lincoln, Neb., and they had made their home in Custer City.

Burial will conclude in the Custer City Masonic Cemetery under the direction of the Stanley-Lee Funeral Home of Clinton.

Survivors include her husband, Troy, and two daughters, Kylie and Harlie, all of the home; a son, Jacob Cotter and his wife, Teri, of Carnegie; her parents, Caroline and Charles Lasley of Clinton and Jim Cotter of Carnegie; grandparents, G.L. Cotter and LaVerne Fite, both of Carnegie; and 2 grandchildren, Maudie and Rylie.

Visitation will start at 5 p.m. today at the Clinton funeral home, until noon on Friday and will continue at the Custer City Lee Funeral Home until service time on Saturday.
