Funeral rites held in Leedey for Bob Walker at 5:06 pm
Funeral services for Robert LeRoy “Bob” Walker, age 85 a longtime former Leedey resident, were held Wednesday afternoon in the First Baptist Church at Leedey.

Walker died on Saturday, May 13, 2006, in Plano,

Texas. He was born on Sept. 7, 1920 in Billings, the son of Ernest N. and Flossie (Elliott) Walker.

Reared in rural Butler, where he attended grade school and high school, he graduated with the class of 1938.

Walker went on to serve his country for four years in the United States Army during World War II.

During his enlistment he received several commendations and was honorably discharged in 1945.

On Dec. 8, 1945 Bob married Bonnie Jeanne Kenney at the home of Leon and Loretta Walker in Butler. The couple made their home near Leedey for 58 years.

Due to declining health they moved to Clinton in 2003 and for a short time resided in the Angelwood Assisted Living Center in Clinton.

In 2005 they moved to Plano, Texas to the EdenBrook Assisted Living Center to be near their daughter Barbara, son-in-law Keith, and granddaughter Cyndy.

Bob was a member of the Rhea Baptist Church and song leader for many years. He was also a member of the Leedey Ministerial Alliance.

A lifelong farmer/rancher, sfter retirement he became

active in community service.

He was a Gideon as well as a Mason and member of the Custer Masonic Lodge for 50 years.

He was a longtime member of the Leedey Ambulance Board and the Leedey Clinic Board and served as chairman of both for several years.

Preceding him in death were his parents, Ernest and Flossie Walker; his daughter, Donna Jeanne; and two brothers, Leon and Al Walker.

Interment will follow in the Center Point Cemetery under the arrangement of the Shaw Funeral Home in Leedey.

Survivors include his wife, Bonnie of Plano, Texas; daughter, Barbara Griffitts and her husband, Keith, of Plano, Texas; a granddaughter, Cyndy Snider of Tyler, Texas; a grandson, Ryan Griffitts and his wife, Mary, of Dallas, Texas; a sister, Virginia Parr of Edmond; and sisters-in-law, Loretta Walker and Vynetta Walker, both of Clinton.

Larry Evans services set at 5:05 pm
Funeral services for Larry Evans, age 49 of El Reno, will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday at Mount Moriah Baptist Church in El Reno with Rev. Willie McDaniel officiating.
Evans died early Saturday, May 13, 2006, after a brief illness. He was born on Aug. 3, 1956 in Clinton, the son of T.P. and Bertha (Lister) Evans.

Growing up in Clinton, he attended Clinton schools until he moved to El Reno with his family in 1969.

He graduated from El Reno High School in 1973 and worked for the El Reno schools for 10 years, later working as a cook for “Tootiers” for five years.

Preceding him in death were his parents and three brothers, Kenneth, Henry and Tommie Evans, Jr.

Burial will conclude in the Clinton Cemetery under the direction of the Stanley-Lee Funeral Home in Clinton.

Survivors include three sisters, Kimberly Evans and Norma Thompson of El Reno, Dolly Johnson of Springfield, Mo.; and five brothers, Joseph of El Reno, Alfred of Oklahoma City, Eddie and Charles, both of Springfield, Mo., Marvin of Houston, Texas.

Ruyle rites set in Tulsa at 5:04 pm
A rosary for Arapaho native Geneva Marie Ruyle, 96, will be held at 7:30 p.m. Thursday in Tulsa with mass following at 11 a.m. Friday.
The rosary will be at the Eastlawn Chapel of Moore Funeral Home on S. Memorial, with the mass at Saints Peter and Paul Catholic Church. Interment will be in the Calvary Cemetery.

Mrs. Ruyle died Monday, May 15, 2006, at her home in Tulsa.

She was born July 18, 1909, in Arapaho, the daughter of William and Anna Belle Hughes.

Her husband of 57 years, Joseph B. Ruyle, preceded her in death, as did her oldest daughter, Anna Pauline Richardson.

Mrs. Ruyle’s favorite Bible passage was from Genesis, “Go forth and multiply and fill the earth.” She did her part, giving birth to 13 children. Six sons and six daughters survive, along with 46 grandchildren and more than 100 great and great-great-grandchildren, as well as numerous other relatives still living in the Clinton and Arapaho area.

The sons and their surviving spouses are Joseph Erwin Ruyle and wife Jane, of Tulsa; James William Ruyle and wife Sherry, Wagoner; George Edward Ruyle and wife Julie, St. Peters, Mo.; and Jon Nelson Ruyle, Donald Matthew Ruyle, and Charles Mark Ruyle and wife Jan, all of Tulsa. The daughters are Patricia Marie Gay and Stella Ruth Gay, both of Concord, Ark.; Theresa Genell Carroll and husband Dennis, of Texas; and Frances Claire Conley, Dianna Eugenia Rogers, and Marge Stallings and husband Steve, all of Tulsa.

Peace rites Thursday at 2:58 pm
Funeral services for former Clinton-Arapaho area resident and long-time educator Bernice Mitchell Peace, age 99 of Elk City, will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday in the chapel of the Martin Funeral Home in Elk City with Rev. Gene Spillman officiating.

Peace died Monday, May 15, 2006. She was born on Jan. 6, 1907 in the former Day County of the Oklahoma Territory, the daughter of Judge E.L. and Ethyl Madden Mitchell.

Her early years were spent at Cheyenne and Oklahoma City.

In 1916, the family moved to Clinton where she graduated from high school at the age of 16.

She studied at Cumberland University in Lebanon, Tenn. and at Southwestern Oklahoma Normal School at Weatherford where she received her teaching certificate and met her future husband, Herman W. (Ike) Peace.

They were married in November of 1930.

Bernice began her teaching career at Arapaho where

she taught third grade while also working in the Custer County Court Clerk’s office.

The couple went on to teach at Hobart in 1935.

During the ensuing years, she taught all grades, first through 12, in schools from Erick to Davenport to Arnett as well as Hollis, Elk City, Brownfield in Texas, Elk City again and lastly at Window Rock in Arizona.

During World War II while her husband was in the Navy, Bernice worked for the Navy at Great Lakes, Ill. and for Ryan Aviation in San Diego, Calif.

Peace went on the earn her BS in education at Southwestern in 1949 and her MS in secondary education at the University of Oklahoma in 1967.

For several years she was the director of the Head Start program at Elk City and was a visiting special education teacher on a federal project tutoring handicapped children in their home or hers.

She taught first grade at Elk City’s Northeast School for 13 years, earning her certificate in special education in 1967.

After her retirement she was founding director of the Elk City Day Care Center and the Elk City New Horizons Program.

For several years, she did volunteer work at the Elk

City Community Hospital. She was named Beckham County Teacher of the Year in 1963.

She retired from teaching in 1978. She was a long-time member of the Disciples of Christ supporting the Elk City First Christian Church.

Her husband preceded her in death in 1979.

Interment will follow in the Fairlawn Cemetery. Visitation will be on Wednesday afternoon and Thursday.

Survivors include a son, H.W., and his wife, Norma, of Oklahoma City; two grandchildren, Hugh William of Dallas, Texas, Susannah Lee Robinson and her husband, Michael, of Allen, Texas; two great grandchildren, Austen and Brady Robinson; a sister, Ruth Husman of Clinton; and a sister-in-law, Rowena Mitchell of Tulsa.

Gene Dickey services set at 2:57 pm
Funeral services for Gene Dickey, age 87 and a longtime Clinton resident, will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday in the First United Methodist Church at Clinton with Dewade Langley and Dan Day officiating.
Born Dec. 31, 1918 at Carnegie, the daughter of Homer and Blanche (Johnson) Cole, she died early Sunday, May 14, 2006, at the Grace Living Center in Bethany.

Dickey graduated from Thomas High School in 1926 and continued her education at then Southwestern College in Weatherford.

She married J.O. Dickey, Jr. on Sept. 17, 1940 in Siloam Springs, Ark.

The young couple lived in Luther, Verden and Yukon before settling in Clinton in 1954.

They operated an insurance agency for several years before retiring in the 1980’s.

She was an advisor for the Rainbow Girls locally and statewide and was a member of the First United Methodist Church and Eastern Star.

Preceding her in death, along with her husband, were a sister, Toots Raaf; and brothers, Ralph, A.B. and Howard Cole.

Burial will conclude in the Clinton Cemetery under the direction of the Stanley-Lee Funeral Home in Clinton.

Survivors include a daughter, Kathy Langley and her husband, Dewade, of Yukon; a son, J.O. Dickey III of Norman; two grandchildren, Chad Allen Langley of Edmond, Tyson Dickey of Norman; and two great grandchildren, Wyatt and Garrett Langley.

Bonnie Crites services set at 2:56 pm
Funeral services for Bonnie Lee (Webb) Crites, age 81 of Clinton, will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday in the Kiesau Memorial Chapel of the Kiesau-Lee Funeral Home in Clinton with Rev. Shane Hall officiating.
Crites died late Monday at Integris Clinton Regional Hospital. She was born on Oct. 18, 1924 in Clinton, the daughter of Jim and Clara (Caldwell) Webb.

Reared in Clinton, she graduated from Clinton High School in 1942.

She started working for Lee-Way Freight before starting a career with Public Service Company of Oklahoma.

She married Gene Crites on Sept. 1, 1951 in Clinton, and the couple made their home in Clinton. Crites retired from PSO in 1989, and her husband preceded her in death in 1994.

Also preceding her in death were her parents and a sister, Georgia Whitson.

She was a member of the First Baptist Church.

Burial will be in the Clinton Cemetery.

Her son, Steve Crites of Clinton, survives.

Geneva Dixon funeral slated at 2:55 pm
Funeral services for Geneva Alice McClellan Dixon, age 46 of Cordell, will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday at the Fourth and College Church of Christ with Brother Tim Lau and Lee Roy Collins officiating.
Burial will follow in the Fairlawn Cemetery at Cordell under the direction of the Jack Loftiss Funeral Home in Cordell.

Services set for Van Alstine at 3:04 pm
Graveside services for Mickey (Myers) Van Alstine, 77 and former Clinton resident, will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the Arapaho Cemetery with Rev. Larry Holder officiating.

She died early Sunday, May 14, 2006, at the Lexington Nursing Home in Lexington.

She was born Aug. 11, 1928, in Clinton the daughter of Weaver Lee and Stella (Ray) Myers. She graduated from Clinton High School.

She married Ray Van Alstine on Aug. 8, 1945, in Las Vegas. The couple initially made their home in California where she had a seamstress business and specialized in making wedding gowns. She and her husband later made racing silks and trophy coolers for racehorses.

The couple moved back to Clinton and her husband preceded her in death in 1982. She continued to live in Clinton and was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Clinton until failing health forced her to enter the nursing home to be closer to her daughter.

Services are under the direction of the Kiesau-Lee Funeral Home in Clinton.

She was preceded in death by her husband and a sister, Zan Reta Scarce.

She is survived by her daughter, Cheryl Jane Bouk and her husband Terry of Purcell; a sister, Yvonne Fransen of Clinton; two brothers, W.L. Myers of Clinton and Clifford Myers of Paso Robles, Calif.; and two grandchildren, Tammy Price of Clinton and Thomas Bouk of Purcell.

Services set for Fleming at 3:02 pm
Funeral services for Dorothy Fleming, age 77 of Seminole, will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday in the Stout-Phillips Funeral Home Chapel at Wewoka with Rev. Shirley Hill officiating.

Fleming died Tuesday, May 9, 2006, at Shawnee. She was born on Feb. 9, 1929 at Sasakwa, the daughter of Clyde C. Triece and Lula Mae Elrod.

She attended Drumright Vo-Tech and received her Licensed Practical Nurse certification. She also received her beautician and Realtor licenses. She was a member of the American Miniature Horse Association and was of the Baptist faith.

Dorothy and William Fleming were married April 6, 1952 in Kansas, and he died on Feb. 2 of this year. Also preceding her in death was her parents.

Interment will be at Oakwood Cemetery.

Survivors include a son, William “ Bill” Fleming Jr. of Clinton; a daughter, Lorie Reid and her husband, Pat, of Seminole; a sister, Ruby Womack of Seminole; six grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.

Church rites set today at 1:56 pm
Funeral services for Pauline “Pollye” Imogene (Webb) Church, age 84 of Canute, were scheduled this afternoon at the Northeast Church of Christ in Sentinel with Bruce Mayfield officiating.

Church died May 6, 2006 at Yukon. She was born on Oct. 2, 1921 near Burns Flat, the daughter of Robert Lee and Nora (Pennington) Webb.

She graduated from Burns Flat High School in 1939 and
married Vernon Church on Sept. 12, 1940 in Cordell.

They lived north of Sentinel until they moved to the farm on Highway 152 nine miles south of Canute where they lived until Vernon’s death in May 2005.

Pollye was a beautician with her own shop on 152 Highway for 30 years. She also helped Vernon on the farm.

She was a member of the Northeast Church of Christ.

She also was a poet, winning a Shakespeare Trophy of Excellence in poetry in 1999 and 2000.

Also preceding her in death, along with her parents and husband of 65 years, were three brothers, Outler, W.D., Lendall; four sisters, LaFern, Carol, Evelyn, Charlette; her twin son and daughter, Lynn Dale and Lynda Gale; and a granddaughter, Jennifer Lynn.

Interment will follow in the Sentinel Cemetery under the direction of the McClure Funeral Home of Sentinel.

Survivors include granddaughters, Curissa Richardson of Sentinel, Kendra Slagell of Hydro, Tia Smith of Elk City, Kelly Bullard of Yukon; a daughter-in-law, Susan of Yukon; a brother, J.K. Webb and his wife, Sybil, of Hinton; a sister, Eleanor Albert of Elk City; great grandchildren, Jaica Richardson, Quay Richardson, Jolee Smith, Garrett Slagell, Logan Bullard, Tucker Smith, Gage Slagell and Raegan Bulla
