Townsends services held at 10:53 am
Funeral services for Melton Perry Townsend, Jr., age 48 of Altus, were held this past Wednesday at the Lowell-Tims Funeral Home in Altus with Rev. Madison Clinton officiating.
Townsend died Sunday, March 4, 2007. He was born on Feb. 1, 1959 at Altus, the son of Melton Perry Townsend, Sr. and Linda (Pray) Townsend, and moved to Clinton in 1960.

He attended all 12 grades of school in Clinton, graduating from Clinton High School in 1977.

He attended the Friendship Baptist Church and worked in maintenance at the United Supermarket in Altus.

Interment was in the Altus City Cemetery.

Survivors include his mother, Linda Townsend of Altus; his father, Melton Townsend, Sr. of Clinton; a daughter, Jourdan Townsend of Norman; a brother, Steve Townsend and his wife, Charlene, of Lubbock, Texas; and a sister, Tammy Frizzell and her husband, Rodney, of Newcastle.

6-year-old's services set at 10:53 am
Funeral services for Caitlin Michelle TwoHatchet, 6-year-old kindergarten student at Nance Elementary School in Clinton, will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday in the Custer Avenue Baptist Church.
Caitlin died Friday morning, March 9, 2007, in an automobile accident three miles west of Thomas.

She was born Oct. 4, 2000, in Clinton, the daughter of Ruben Lee Santos and Lorie TwoHatchet. She had moved recently with other members of the family to Thomas, but was still a student in Shelby Warnick’s kindergarten class at Clinton.

Caitlin enjoyed writing, coloring, reading and most of the other things little girls do, including helping take care of her younger siblings.

She is survived by her parents; three sisters, Maisie Elizabeth Santos, Jessica Leeann Roque and Jenna Marie Santos; three brothers, Samuel Reed Santos, Donovan Isaiah Santos and Ruben Lee Santos Jr.; grandparents Margaret Castillo of Clinton, Donnie TwoHatchet, Clinton, and Frank Santos, Breckenridge, Texas; and a great-grandmother, Josephine Castaneda, Breckendridge, Texas.

Rev. Curtis Burton will officiate at the funeral with burial following in the Clinton Cemetery under direction of the Stanley-Lee Funeral Home.

Visitation at the funeral home will begin at 8 a.m. Monday.

Loren Young rites Monday at 6:22 pm
Funeral services for Loren Young, age 63 of Weatherford, will be held at 2 p.m. Monday in the First Baptist Church at Weatherford with Earl Stephenson officiating.

Young died Thursday, March 8, 2007, at Mercy Health Center in Oklahoma City. He was born on Aug. 18, 1943 in Arkansas, the son of Joseph and Johanna (Hensel) Young.

He was reared and attended school in the Littlefield, Texas area, graduating from Spade High School in 1963. He went on to West Texas State University in Canyon, Texas and then to a Bible college in Waxahachie, Texas.

Young later moved to Springfield, Missouri and attended Bible college. He met Margaret McBroom, and they married in 1966. He moved to Weatherford where he met and married Johnette (McCrary) Seigler, making their home here.

Young was a member of the “Circle of Life” because of his organ donation through the Global Organization for Organ Donation and LifeShare of Oklahoma.

Burial will follow in the Greenwood Cemetery at Weatherford under the direction of the Lockstone Funeral Home at Weatherford.

Survivors include his wife, Johnette Young of the home in Weatherford; one son, Theron Young and his wife of Plano, Texas; three daughters, Anissa Bailey of Bossier City, La., Lacy Harmon and her husband, Brad of Buffalo, Okla., Antrice Smith and her husband, Dee, of Laverne; one step-daughter, Sara Holman and her husband, Ethan, of Weatherford; five brothers, Ernie Young of Lajara, Colo., Martin Young of Sunray, Texas, Joseph Young of Sunray, Texas, Tony Young of Amarillo, Texas, Ronald Young of Lubbock, Texas; three sisters, Earlene Harris of Amarillo, Texas, Sue Strickland of Amarillo, Texas, Lorretta Bales of Neosho, Mo.; and 10 grandchildren.

Preceding him in death were his parents and one sister in infancy.

The family suggests that memorial contributions may be made to the Weatherford First Baptist Church Building Fund.

Services set for Claphan at 6:22 pm
Graveside services for Theodore Fain Claphan, age 58 of Tipton, Mo., will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at the Butler Cemetery in Oklahoma.
Claphan died Monday, March 5, 2007, at Capital Region Medical Center in Jefferson City, Mo. He was born on July 29, 1948 in Lawton, the son of Alvin Sr. and Betty Isley Motley.

He married Paulette Beaver on April 19, 1991 in Georgetown, Texas. She preceded him in death on June 2, 2002.

Claphan was a logger until he was injured in an accident in 1974, after which he was self-employed.

Arrangements are under the direction of the Meisenheimer Funeral Home of Tipton, Mo. There will be no visitation.

Survivors include three sons, Elza Wayne Claphan, T.W. Claphan, Monte Claphan, all of Oklahoma; a stepson, Mark Bernard of Oklahoma; a daughter, Angela Brandes of Tipton, Mo.; two brothers, Alvin Motley Jr. and Oral Pedigo, both of Oklahoma; three sisters, Neva Winn, Betty Sherbourne, Martha Mills, all of Oklahoma; and 16 grandchildren.

Preceding him in death were a son, Tracey Claphan; a stepson, Larry Rollins; and a sister, Charlotte.

Alexander funeral Friday at 4:47 pm
Funeral services for Gayford Lee Alexander, age 97 of Clinton, will be held at 10 a.m. Friday in the Kiesau Memorial Chapel of the Kiesau-Lee Funeral Home in Clinton with Rev. Clarence “Sandy” Shepherd officiating.

Alexander died Tuesday, March 6, 2007, at Integris Clinton Regional Hospital. He was born on Nov. 27, 1909 on the family farm near Rocky, the son of William and Edna (Clayton) Alexander.

Reared in Rocky, he attended the Big Ike grade school a quarter mile from his home, quitting school after the eighth grade to help his father on the farm.

He attended the Primitive Baptist Church.

He married his wife of over 76 years, Vivian Garner, on Aug. 9, 1927 in Marshfield, Mo.

They started married life in Rocky and farmed there until they moved to Clinton in 1939.

He worked for Acme Brick Co. in Clinton, the Naval Station at Burns Flat and the Clinton Ice Company.

His wife preceded him in death in 2004 and he had lived at the Grace Living Center in Clinton since that time.

Also preceding him in death were his parents; a son, Gayford Lee Alexander, Jr.; five brothers, Irvin, Bryan, Loren, Lester, Carl; five sisters, Bertie Belknap, Elra Mace, Clara Clanahan, Juanita Baccus, Lela Cuda; and a great granddaughter, Melissa Shepherd.

Burial will conclude in the Lone Star Cemetery at Rocky.

Survivors include three daughters, Eva Lee Stewart and her companion, Cork Ross, of Clinton, Melba Jean Shepherd-Friesen and her husband, Bill, of Clinton, Vivian Shay of Estill Springs, Tenn.; a son, Larry Alexander and his wife, Ramona, of San Diego, Calif.; 19 grandchildren, Mark Stewart, Lloyd Stewart, Ramona Hines, all of Clinton, Sharon Thompson of Edmond, Linda Tharel of Clinton, David Shepherd of Butler, Cheryl Wright of Clinton, Gaye Barrick of Clinton, Bryan Alexander of Clinton, Mandy Hartronft of Dill City, Ty Alexander of Clinton, Kim Reich of New York, Larry Dale Alexander of California, Michael Alexander of Kentucky, Candy Rios of Tennessee, Brenda Sales of Tennessee and Ramona Reed, Margie Williams, and Suzanne Wolfenberger, all of California; 33 great grandchildren; and 22 great-great grandchildren.

The family has suggested making memorial contributions in Gayford Alexander’s honor to the Western Oklahoma Integris Health Care Foundation in Clinton or to the church or charity of one’s choice.

Funeral held for Clark at 2:55 pm
Funeral services for former Clinton resident Chase Alexander Clark, age 20, were held at Seiling with Dennis Adair officiating last Friday.

Clark died Monday, June 25, 2007, in an automobile accident near Searcy, Ark. where he had been working as a roustabout in the oilfield for Elston Enterprises.

He was born on April 3, 1987 at Thomas, the son of J.R. Clark and Anna Lung.

After having attended school at Clinton and Watonga until the age of 14, he moved to Seiling with his father and graduated from high school there in 2006.

Interment was held in the Brumfield Cemetery at Seiling under the direction of the Redinger Funeral Home of Seiling.

Survivors include his mother, Anna Hoke of Enid; his father and stepmother, J.R. and Michelle Clark of Seiling; his stepfather, Troy Lee of Cordell; five half brothers, Dennis Lee of Cordell, Ross Hoke of Clinton, Nathaniel Morrison of Seiling, Mathew and Mark Clark of Weatherford; grandparents, Kathy and J.T. Young of Watonga, Curtis Lung of Chester; and great grandparents, Lyrah Franks of Watonga and Pauline and Ray Lee of Clinton.

The family suggests making memorial contributions to the Chase Clark Memorial Fund, Redinger Funeral Home, P.O. Box 236, Seiling, OK 73663.

Services set for Walkup at 4:51 pm
Graveside services for Leslie James Walkup, age 56 of Clinton, will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday in the Clinton Cemetery.

Leslie was born Jan. 12, 1951, in Sayre to Garnet James and Billie Jo (Griffin) Walkup, and died Sunday, July 1, 2007, in his Clinton home.

Leslie grew up and attended school in Sayre. He lived in Pampa, Texas, until l972 when he settled in Clinton. He worked in construction.

Preceding him in death were his father; and 3 sisters, Patricia Perry, Nellie Jo Walkup and Betty Jo Walkup.

Arrangements are under the direction of the Stanley-Lee Funeral Home in Clinton.

Survivors include his mother, Billie Joe Walkup of Clinton; 3 daughters, Ronda Sue Walkup of Pampa, Texas, Nisa Jean Walkup of Arkansas, Patches Martin of Foss; 3 sons, Rusty Matthew James Walkup of Burns Flat, Leslie Jason Walkup of Woodward, Casey Flewelling of Woodward; 3 sisters, Rebecca Sue Corley of Pampa, Texas, Jo Ann Gonzales of Clinton, Johnny Mac Walkup of Chickasha; and 17 grandchildren.

Gossen funeral set at 4:50 pm
Funeral services for Sam Gossen, age 82 of Corn, will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday in the Corn Mennonite Brethren Church with Rev. Tim Sandy officiating.
Samuel “Sam” Gossen died Saturday, June 30, 2007, at the Southwestern Memorial Hospital Emergency Room in Weatherford. He was born on Aug. 29, 1924 in Corn, the son of J.C. and Annie (Vogt) Gossen.

Growing up on a farm southeast of Corn, he was a member of the Corn Mennonite Brethren Church, in which he served as a teacher and Sunday school superintendent.

He attended grade school at Pleasant View and graduated from Corn Bible Academy in 1943.

He married Naemi Bergmann on Feb. 27, 1947, and they established a homestead southwest of Corn.

He worked as a custom wheat harvester, dairyman and farmer for many years.

Preceding him in death, in addition to his parents, were two infant brothers, Willard and Jacob.

Burial will conclude in the Corn Cemetery under the direction of the Kiesau-Lee Funeral Home in Clinton.

Survivors include his wife, Naemi Gossen of Corn; five children, Stanley Gossen and his wife, Geri, of Cordell, Gary Gossen and his wife, Norma, of Cordell, Alden Gossen and his wife, Karen, of Corn, Melvin Gossen and his wife, Laura, of Corn, Rosanne Schmidt and her husband, Kevin, of Cordell; 19 grandchildren; six great grandchildren; two brothers, Jacob Gossen, Jr. of Corn, Joel Gossen of Corn; and three sisters, Edna Duerksen of Corn, Miriam Sallaska of Corn and Annie Lee Graf of Cordell.

The family suggests that memorial contributions in Sam’s honor may be made to the Corn Bible Academy.

Bates rites set at 4:50 pm
Funeral services for Charles C. Bates, age 68 of Elk City, will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday in the Elk City Indian Baptist Church, with Rev. Paul Beartrack, Rev. Gerald Watson, and Rev. Gerald Panana officiating.
Bates was born Sept. 27, 1939, southeast of Chickasha, the son of Holly G. and Beatrice (Rodgers) Bates, and died Sunday, July l, 2007, in the Elk City Nursing Home.

A wake service will be held Wednesday from 7 p.m. until midnight at the Elk City Indian Baptist Church.

He attended school in the Marlow-Duncan area and worked as a farm laborer before moving to California. He had also lived in the Fort Worth, Texas area where he got involved in the construction business as well as working as a crosswalk guard for school children.

Bates had worked as a roofer as well as in construction all over Oklahoma and was an active member of the Elk City Indian Baptist Church.

He was making backpacks with school supplies to give to the children where he was doing mission work in Montana and Gallup, N.M. at the time of his death. He had settled in Elk City in 2005.

Preceding him in death were his parents; a sister, Edith Mae Allen; and a brother, Joe Edward Bates.

Burial will conclude in the Mound Valley Cemetery in Thomas under the direction of the Stanley-Lee Funeral Home of Clinton.

Survivors include a daughter, Beatrice Bates of Lawton; sons, Roy Bates, of Weatherford and Cornelius Bates and a stepson, Ronnie Kauley, both of Elk City; brothers, Robert Paul Bates, of Elk City, Horace Glenn Bates of Duncan, Don Hugh Bates of Newcastle, Kern George Bates of Clayburn, Texas; and 2 grandchildren.

Wilcox rites slated at 4:46 pm
Funeral services for Tammy Lynn Wilcox, age 39 of Hannibal, Mo., will be held at 10 a.m. Friday at the James O'Donnell Funeral Home in Hannibal with Michael Niffen officiating.

Wilcox died Saturday evening, June 23, 2007, at Hannibal, Mo. Regional Hospital. She was born Oct. 4, 1967, in Moose Lake, Minn. to Gloria Rosenburg Morris.

Burial will be at Grand View Burial Park in Hannibal. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.

Survivors include her mother, Gloria Rosenburg Morris of Waldorf, Md.; her father, Harold W. Johnson of Arapaho; a son, Kirk Berry of Houston, Texas; her stepfather; Edwin Slater, Sr., and stepmother, Shirley Johnston; four brothers, Edwin Slater, Jr., Harold W. Johnston, Jr., Darrell Stovall, Gary Scott, Jr.; and three sisters, Lisa Slater, Robin Slater, Renee Nicholson.

Memorial contributions may be made to the family or to the American Cancer Society in care of the funeral home in Hannibal.

Gertie Rennels services set at 4:42 pm
Funeral services for Hammon, OK, native Gertie Rennels, 87, will be held Wednesday June 27, 2007 at 10:00 a.m. from the A.G. Creach High School Auditorium in Hammon, OK with Pastor Ridge Lamar and Dick Rennels officiating. Interment will follow in the Red Hill Cemetery of Hammon, OK, under the direction of the Martin Funeral Home of Elk City, OK.

Gertie Mae Rennels was born March 22,1920 in Purcell, OK, to Rev. J.W. Mooney and Kittie (Miller) Mooney, and passed away Sunday, June 24, 2007 at the Great Plains Regional Medical Center in Elk City, OK.

She moved with her family to the Hammon, OK area in 1925, where her father founded the Hammon Pentecostal Holiness Church. She graduated from Hammon High School in 1939. She was married to Wade Warren Rennels on March 24, 1940, in Carpenter, OK, and they had two sons, Ronnie and Danny. She lived in the Hammon area until the time of her death.

After completing LPN school, she was employed by the Elk City Community Hospital, and taught nursing courses at the Burns Flat Vo-Tech; however she is best remembered as serving as the Hammon School nurse for over 20 years.

She was a faithful member of the First Love Christian Fellowship Church in Elk City. She dedicated her life to the Lord, and being a servant to all. After she retired, she volunteered many hours for hospice and made countless jean quilts for many people.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Wade, who passed away in 1991 after 51 years of marriage; her brothers Orville, Harold, Roy, Murl and Everett Mooney; and her sisters Mary Simmons and Pat Holloway.

Survivors include son and daughter-in-law Ronnie and Cindy Rennels of Clinton, OK, and their family Brad and Peggy Rennels and their children Ashley, Austin, and Connor, of Clinton; Pam and Rob Muncrief and their children Kyndall, Carter, and Chad of Elk City; son and daughter-in-law Danny and Kerry Rennels and their family Ryan Rennels, Mecah and Ashlyn Williams of Verden, OK, Laci and Mike Mulllns, Jarred and Jordan of Blanchard, OK; beloved sisters Mildred Dodson of Oklahoma City, and Doletta Blythe and husband Louis of Texas City, TX,; sisters-in-law Ruby Mooney and Melrose Mooney, and brother-in-law James Holloway, and many other loving relatives and friends. Memorial donations in Gertie’s name may be made to the charity of choice.
