Perry
Eura Perry was born April 11, 1912, at Balko. She died on March 31, 2003, at the age of 90 years, 11 months and 20 days at the Beaver County Nursing Home.
Eura was the daughter of Charlie (C.C.) Tice and Addie Parks Tice.
She was educated in the Balko Schools, graduating in 1930 from Balko High School. She rode a horse to school, whether rain, shine or snow. She played basketball as a forward on the girls high school team. This led to a lifelong passion for basketball. In those days, she played basketball on a dirt court.
As a girl growing up, she was "Daddy’s Right-Hand Man" helping with all of the farm and livestock chores.
Eura was the fourth of five children in her family. The other siblings were: Desley Tice of Liberal, KS; Lorraine Smith of Liberal, KS; Mabel Barnett of Roswell, NM (surviving sister) and Gwynn Tice of Balko (surviving brother).
Following graduation from Balko High School, Era worked as housekeeper and cook for Barry Lawson of the Balko community.
On October 15, 1937, Eura married D.H. (Del) Perry. Del was working for her Grandpa Parks on his farm in Durant. One day Grandma Parks asked Eura to take a drink of water to their hired hand, which just happened to be Del Perry. Eura often said she started out taking him a drink of water, and did from then on...This union remained until Del’s death, January 1990.
Into this union four children were born. Initially, premature twin boys-Melvin Dean Perry and Marvin Gene Perry-were born on December 13, 1938. Marvin Gene Perry died within 24 hours of his birth. The twins were born at home and placed in a shoe box as their crib. Del was working for Bill Taylor of Balko at that time.
Billie Charles Perry of Beaver was born in Beaver on February 3, 1942. Del worked for Elmer Classen in Balko at this time. The family moved to what is referred to as "The Home Place" in August of 1943, Joyce Dell Perry Gunsaulis was born December 15, 1944, while at the "Home Place", located seven miles southeast of Beaver.
Then in 1953, Del and Eura purchased a home four miles south of Beaver from Chet and Lucille Crane. While living on the farm, the couple was involved in dairy, wheat and cattle. Eura always said when the couple did their field work together-when one made a left turn, the other one turned left at the same time, because they were always "side by side." And so it was their entire life together.
In the spring of 1974, Del and Eura decided to move to town and live in Beaver. After retiring in 1974, Del and Eura often enjoyed their leisure time camping with friends at Canton lake and in South Texas. The couple made their home in Beaver until Del’s passing in January 1990. Eura continued to live at 701 Avenue F until March 31, 2003, when she moved to the Beaver County Nursing Home.
Eura was baptized at the Balko First Baptist Church. She moved her membership to the Beaver First Baptist Church in 1953. The church members were meeting at that time in the old church building. When the new Beaver First Baptist Church was built, Del used their wheat truck to move a load of brick from Clinton to Beaver to help build the church, which stands today.
Eura died at 7:00 p.m. on March 31, 2003, and is remembered by her family and friends as a hard worker, a seamstress, a disciplinarian and a mother with a great love of her family. She is the "World’s Greatest Mother!"

His father, the Reverend William Barr Leonard, a Presbyterian minister and farmer, and his mother, Mary Elizabeth Rich Leonard, a teacher and owner of ladies’ clothing stores in Beaver and Coldwater, KS came to Chickasha, Oklahoma Territory in 1900 and moved to Beaver in 1903.

His entire adult life was spent in Beaver until failing health necessitated his and his wife’s move to Oklahoma City in 2000 where they lived next door to their son Tim and his wife Nancy. His long and productive life in Beaver was devoted to public service, the practice of law and his greatest love of all, farming and ranching.
He served in the Oklahoma State Senate from 1942 to 1950 where he represented the district comprised of Cimarron, Texas, Beaver and Harper counties. While in the Senate he served on the Appropriations and the Revenue and Taxation Committees, authored the Oklahoma Brand Registration Law, obtained funds for paving State Highway 3 through the Oklahoma Panhandle and for building new dormitories at Panhandle State University in Goodwell. Always active in church, community and civic affairs, he was a lifelong member of the First Presbyterian Church in Beaver. He was also active over the years in the Beaver County Farm Bureau, the Rotary Club and the Beaver County Historical Society. In the late 1940’s he served as president of a committee formed to bring telephone service to the rural areas of Beaver, Texas and Cimarron counties. This later became the Panhandle Telephone Cooperative.
His primary interest and affection was always for the land. As a young boy and during his student days he always worked on the family farm southwest of Beaver. In 1939, he bought a small ranch southeast of Beaver near Clearlake. He later owned ranches in the Kansas Flint Hills and in Meade County, KS as well as other farms in Beaver County.
