Holmes
Neil Dewayne Holmes was born October 1, 1978, in Haskell, TX to Billy and Helen Mary (Cadenhead) Holmes.
Neil graduated in 1997 from Beaver High School where he was involved in football, Ag and baseball. He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Beaver.
Neil was active in the Beaver Volunteer Fire Department and was a member of the Beaver Firefighters Association. He was employed by the Oklahoma Department of Transportation.
He died November 28, 2002, near Beaver.
He was preceded in death by his grandfather, Billy Wayne Holmes; grandmother, Betty Schuermann; Uncle David Wayne Holmes and cousin, Angela Proctor.
Survivors include his parents, Billy and Linda Holmes of Woodward and Helen Mary and Wayne Clements of San Angelo, TX; three sisters, Misty and Kevin Woods of Wylie, CO, Susan and Tim Shrum of Forgan and Kimberly Holmes of San Angelo, TX; two brothers, Kevin Clements of San Angelo, TX and Bill Ron Meyers of Laverne; grandparents, Dr. Frank and Billie Cadenhead of Haskell, TX and Eldon Schuermann of Woodward; great-grandmother, Nellie Bird of Haskell, TX and many aunts, uncles and cousins and a host of friends.
Funeral services were Monday, December 2, 2002, in the Beaver First Baptist Church with Jason Dirks and Oscar Ragan officiating. Interment was in the Elmwood Cemetery, Woodward.
Winfree
Inez Lansden Winfree was born September 17, 1908, to William and Cecilia Mulvey Lansden at their homestead west of Forgan. She died Friday, November 29, 2002, at College Station, TX.
She graduated with the class of 1927 from Forgan. She was a registered nurse at a Houston, TX hospital for many years.
Survivors include a son-in-law, Frank Waddell of College Station, TX; three grandchildren; one nephew, Joe Lansden of Beaver and two nieces, Cheley McAlister of Beaver and Kathal Bales of Norman.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Joed Winfree; daughter, Joan Waddell; and two brothers, Merle Lansden and Willis Lansden.
Graveside services were held at Houston, TX on Monday, December 2.
Huebner
Charles L. Huebner, 60, Turpin , died Saturday, November 16, 2002, at Norman Regional Hospital in Norman.
He was born June 30, 1942, at Liberal, KS, the son of Ernest H. and Augusta "Gussie" P. Wald Huebner.
He attended and graduated from Turpin High School in 1960 and attended Central State University in Edmond for two years. He was a lifelong farmer in the Turpin community and was manager of Perryton Equity at Turpin for several years. Charles was a county commissioner of Beaver County for the past 21 years.
He is survived by one son, Craig Huebner and wife, Cindy of Turpin; two daughters, Kim Hall of Turpin and Heather Looney and husband, Jeff of New Boston, TX; his fiancee, Nelda Gray and her daughter Amy of Purcell; two brothers, Joe Huebner and wife Dorothy of Amarillo, TX and Felix Huebner of Turpin; four grandchildren, Brandon and Brooke Bryan, and Desiree and Chase Huebner.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
A Celebration of Life of Charles Leroy Huebner was held at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, November 20, 2002, at the Grace Evangelical Lutheran Church in Liberal, KS with Pastor Andrew Wehling presiding. Interment was in the Liberal Cemetery.

Smith
Mattie Easterling Smith died Tuesday, November 12, 2002, in the Western Prairie Nursing Home at Ulysses, KS at the age of 95. She was the daughter of Henry Norvilla and Lizzie Zimmerman Easterling. Mattie was born on June 10, 1907, at Rotan, TX.
Soon after Mattie’s birth, the family moved to northeast New Mexico by covered wagon. She attended several different schools in New Mexico and later in Oklahoma where she graduated from high school in Jennings, OK on May 25, 1925. Mattie enrolled at Oklahoma A&M.
On December 24, 1926, Mattie married Walter Reed Smith at the home of his parents in Vici. From this union Mattie and Walter were blessed with five children: three sons, Philip Gordon, Walter Reed and Kerrin Ray, and two daughters, Novella Jean and Vastyl Ann.
Mattie continued her education and received her Bachelor of Science degree from Oklahoma A&M in Stillwater and later a masters degree from Northwestern State University in Alva. Mattie taught school along side her husband and raised the family in Fort Supply, St. Louis, Carney, Inola, Vici, Hardesty, Plainview, and other places. In 1960, Mattie and Walter moved to Laverne, where she taught school until 1971 when she retired with 30 years of service.
In 1989, Mattie was recognized as the Oklahoma Mother of the year which was given by the American Mothers, Inc., a national organization dedicated to "showing the best American home and family."
She is preceded in death by Walter Reed Smith on December 28, 1982; two sons, Philip Gordon Smith August 2000 and Walter Reed Smith on September 6, 1971 and a daughter, Vastyl Ann Smith Smart on April 22, 1965.
Mattie leaves as her survivors, a son, Kerrin Ray Smith and wife Sharon of Johnson, KS; daughter, Novella Jean Brown and husband Billy of San Antonio; 11 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren, three great-great grandchildren and a host of relatives and friends.
Funeral services were Saturday, November 16, 2002, at the United Methodist Church in Laverne with Rev. Diana Northcutt officiating. Interment was in the Laverne Memorial Cemetery.

Pugh
Denzil Garland Pugh was born on January 8, 1943, in Balko to Floyd Woodrow and Myrtle Marie (Young) Pugh. He graduated from Balko High School in 1961 and went on to obtain a masters degree in Education. He was a debate coach at Goddard and at Wellington High School where he was still teaching.
Garland died in the Southwest Medical Center on Saturday, November 9, 2002, at the age of 59
He is survived by his son, Cody Hayes of Wellington, KS; two daughters, Teri Long of Liberal, KS and Denise Janko of Beaver; his mother, Myrtle Pugh of Balko; two brothers, Donald Pugh of Yukon and Wayne Pugh and wife, Leila of Shattuck, five grandchildren and a host of relatives and friends.
Funeral services were Wednesday, November 13, 2002, in the Balko Baptist Church. Interment was in the Pleasant Hill Cemetery.
Schell
Leona E. Schell, age 89, died Tuesday, November 12, 2002, at the Beaver County Memorial Hospital.
She was born October 22, 1913, at Byers, KS, the daughter of Oliver Leonard and Jennie Elizabeth King Swafford. When she was four, the family moved to Colorado for a short time and then moved back to Kansas where she graduated from Byers High School in Byers, KS in 1932.
Leona met John I Schell at a musical convention in Dodge City, KS. They dated for 18 months before marrying in Leona’s parents home near Liberal, KS on March 11, 1936. John gave her the choice of a wedding ring or a cow to start their life together, Leona chose the cow. They made their home in Plains, KS where they farmed and ranched while she maintained their home. John died February 21, 1996.
She is survived by three sons, Richard Schell and wife, Paulette of Elberta, AL; Don Schell and wife, Karen of Beaver and Dale Schell and wife, Lorraine of Plains, KS; two sisters, Leota Lamber, her twin of El Reno and Loris Banker of Lawrence, KS; 10 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren.
Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by a daughter, Jo Ann Schell on August 1, 1992; a sister, Elsie Riney; two brothers, Melvin Swafford and Milton Swafford, and her parents.
Funeral services were Friday, November 15, 2002, at the Friends Church in Plains, KS with Pastors Dan Biernacki and Randy Littlefield presiding. Interment was in the Plains Cemetery, Plains, KS.
Pope
Floyd E. Pope, age 92, of Wichita, KS, died Tuesday, November 12, 2002.
He retired in 1975 after 27 years of service as a elementary principal in the Wichita school system.
Survivors include one son, Jim Pope of Wichita, KS; two daughters, Sharon Earnest and Dianne Kitch, both of Wichita, KS; two sisters, Bessie Appleton of Buffalo and Rosetta Neal of Freemont, MO, five grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
A memorial service was Saturday, November 16, 2002, at University Friends Church in Wichita, KS.
Cvaniga
Nina Cvaniga was born January 4, 1911, at the Maple Ranch in Beaver County to Pearl and Robert Maple. She died November 7, 2002, in Edmond at the age of 91.
Nina was raised on the Maple ranch and attended school at Mocane, Beaver and Goodwell. Nina raised her children on her ranch in Beaver County and was a hard working ranchwoman.
In 1952, Nina and other ranching women organized the Oklahoma Cowbelles, where she served as Secretary/Treasurer and helped put together the Oklahoma Cowbelles Cookbook. In 1935, Nina was initiated into the Eastern Star and served as Worthy Matron. She received her 50-year pin in 1985.
In later years, Nina tried her hand at other occupations. In the 1960’s, she raised and raced quarter horses. At the age of 76, she received her brokers real estate license in Texas, and also worked as the secretary and bookkeeper for the Tomlin and Wolfe Construction Co. for three years. Nina was also a licensed airplane pilot for 15 years.
Her parents, and brother Harry, who was her only sibling, and her two sons, Mark Mayo and Robert Mayo, preceded her in death.
She is survived by her daughter, Margaret Smith of Dallas, TX; six grandchildren, Frank Kuykendall of Seattle, WA, Ronnie Kuykendall of Phoenix City, AL, Dwayne Kuykendall of Blessing, TX, Stephen Mayo of Porta La Cruz, Venezuela, Meredith LeMaster of Bartlesville and Randall Mayo of Beaver, several great-grandchildren and many friends.
LAWSON
Herbert Ronald "Ronnie" Lawson was born on April 28, 1942, in Beaver to Herbert Noble and Gloria Carollea (Johnson) Lawson. Ronnie attended school in Beaver and graduated from Beaver High School.
After high school, he attended the University of Oklahoma and then worked for the family business, Lawson Title Company. In 1976, Ronnie took over Lawson Title Company and started Ivanhoe Petroleum. In 1989, he sold the title company and Ivanhoe Petroleum and relocated to Enid where he worked for the Oklahoma State Department of Transportation as a right-of-way agent. In 1993, he moved to Moore and continued to work for the state until 1999, where he started to work for Smith Land Services. At the time of his death, October 25, 2002, he lived in Oklahoma City.
On June 1, 1965, he married Della Pearl Judd. To this marriage were born four children, Terri Diana, Linda Denise, Shannon Lynne and Lee Ann.
Preceding Ronnie in death were his parents, Herbert and Carollea Lawson; father-in-law, Lee Judd; his grandparents and great-grandparents and nephew, Michael Judd.
Survivors include four daughters, Terri Long and husband Tim, Denise Janko and husband Chris, Shannon Caseltine and husband Jeff and Lee Ann Monty and husband Tyler; 12 grandchildren, Ty Williams and wife Kira, Chanci Peterson and husband Nick, T.J. Maness, Jeremiah Janko, Tanner Long, Zachariah Monty, Sarah Caseltine, Alexis Janko, Joshua Monty, and Michael Caseltine; his sister, Sherry Jenkins and family; his mother-in-law, Mae Judd and a host of other relatives and friends.
Funeral services were Tuesday, October 29, 2002 at the Beaver First Christian Church with Daniel Houghton officiating. Interment was in Pioneer Cemetery.
Harper
Jim L. Harper, 72, of Liberal, KS died Sunday, November 3, 2002 at Southwest Medical Center in Liberal, KS.
He was born August 1, 1930, at Oakwood, OK, the son of Clarence J. and Vera E. VanWinkle Harper.
He was a veteran of the Korean Conflict, serving in the U.S. Army. In 1947 he began the Allied Sign Company, which he then sold in 1979. In 1982 he began the Rainbow Neon Company, which he operated and later sold in 2000 and retired.
On July 28, 1980, he married Helen M. Murray at Clayton, NM. She survives.
In addition to his wife Helen, he is survived by two daughters, Shar Lea Harper of Liberal, KS and Amber Ann Harper of Arkansas City, KS; two stepsons, Dan Murray and wife Marla of Salina, KS and Jody Murray of Norcross, GA; two stepdaughters, Terrie Behrendt and husband Ted of Turpin and Dawn Eby and husband Bart of Harvest, AL; two sisters, Martha VanGundy of Colorado Springs, CO and Juanita Coleman of Mt. Prospect, IL; nine grandchildren, Wesley and Joseph Patterson, Walton Ward, Christian Dunn, Anthony, Michael, Matthew, Christina and Christopher Mora and ten great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, three sisters and one son.
Graveside services were Friday, November 8, 2002, a the Blue Mound Cemetery, rural Balko, with Rev. Stan Lehnert presiding. Military Honors were presented by the American Legion Post #149 of Beaver.

Jacobs
Walter Clarke Jacobs, 79, died Saturday, October 26, 2002, at Medicalodge of Atchison, KS. Funeral services were Tuesday, October 29, 2002, at the United Methodist Church in Atchison, KS with the Rev. Doug Williams presiding.
Walter Jacobs was born February 10, 1923 in Elmwood, the son of Jess Edward and Pearl Evelyn (Clarke) Jacobs. He attended Garrett School near Elmwood and graduated from Beaver High School. He went to college at Panhandle A&M, but joined the Navy in 1943. He was stationed on the USS Steel DE-8, a destroyer escort. He was honorably discharged in 1946.
After military service, he attended the Apostolic Faith Bible College studying ministry and then went to Central Missouri State University graduating in 1951 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Education.
He received his lifetime teaching certificate in 1951 from the State of Missouri and taught middle school math, reading and social studies for the Butler County School District R-V and for the Cass County District #17, both in Missouri. Mr. Jacobs resided in Kerhonkson, NY for several years and moved to Atchison, KS nine years ago.
On April 20, 1947, he married Leota Chitwood in Baxter Springs, KS. She preceded him in death in March 1982.
Survivors include one daughter, Le Fern and husband Dennis Pike of rural Lancaster, KS; one brother, Les Jacobs of Cassville, MO; four sisters, Pauline Messner of Logan, Ilene Sanger of Beaver, Wilma Clay of Eagle Rock, MO and Jean Addleman of Adrian, MO; six grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Trafford
Judith Ann Trafford, age 61, of Wichita, KS, formerly of Forgan, died Thursday, November 7, 2002. She was a retired recruiter for PDS technical services.
She is survived by her mother, Edith Lenertz and a brother, Jerry Lenertz, both of Coldwater, KS; son, Jack Lousch of Manhattan, KS; daughter and son-in-law, Jill and Troy Carter of Forgan; stepchildren, Debra and Bill Johnson and Beth Wilson, all of Little Rock, AR; grandchildren, Madi and Kenan Lousch, Cassandra, Kodie and Tanner Carter, Trey and Nick Massingill, Bethany Scott and David Johnson and two great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by husband, Floyd Trafford; son, Scott Lousch; father, Lester Lenertz and sister, Roberta Rhodd.
A memorial service was Tuesday, November 12, 2002 at the First Presbyterian Church in Coldwater, KS.

Whittaker
Opal Stockton-Whittaker was born on February 22, 1908, in Bogard, MO to Ruben and Ethel Canady. God took Opal home on November 8, 2002, at the age of 94.
Opal moved to Oklahoma with her parents and sister Mildred in April of 1908 and settled south of Gate. When Opal was three, the family moved to Mocane. Opal attended grades one thru eight in Mocane and attended her freshmen year of high school at Knowles. She graduated from Forgan High School in 1927.
Opal went to Panhandle A&M College in Goodwell where, after one year, she received a teaching certificate. She started her teaching career in Garland in 1928. Opal taught from then on, for 45 years at 12 different schools in and around her home in the Oklahoma Panhandle. In 1954, she received a Bachelors degree from Panhandle State. In 1959, Opal was selected as Beaver County teacher of the year. She went on to earn her Masters degree from Northwestern State College in Alva in 1964.
Opal moved back to Gate in 1949 and taught at Gate School for 22 years. She then taught at Buffalo for two years and retired in 1973 although she continued to substitute teach after that.
On April 14, 1933, Opal and Glen Stockton were married, and to this union three children, Pat, Rita and Mike, were born. On May 24, 1972, Opal and Glen Whittaker were united in marriage and were together for 15 years, until Glen’s death in September of 1987.
Opal liked all kinds of sports and especially enjoyed watching her children and grandchildren compete. She was an avid fan of football and basketball but enjoyed any game in which someone from Oklahoma was playing. She was a dedicated bowler for 25 years and bowled competitively until her mid 80s. Opal was proficient at everything she did, which included sewing. She made over 100 quilts, and all of her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren received one of her quilts. She was always active in community, family and church activities.
Opal was baptized in 1928 at the Baptist Church in Goodwell and later was a member of the Gate Methodist Church.
Opal’s family was her greatest joy and source of pride. She, in turn, was a joy and source of pride to them.
As a teacher and mother, Opal had a reputation for expecting everyone to "never quit and always give all you’ve got." That describes Opal, too. She has left the legacy of a person who gave "all she had" in everything she did throughout her lifetime.
Opal was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, sisters, Mildred Jones and Bernice Jeffris, and brothers, Emmett and LeRoy Canady.
She is survived by her children, Pat Stockton and wife Mary Lou of Merritt Island, FL, Rita Meadows of Healdton and Mike Stockton of Oklahoma City; ten grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her sister Nadine Mapes of Ellensburg, WA and many nieces, nephews and friends.
Funeral services were Monday, November 11, 2002, at the Friends Church in Gate with Rev. Leah Jones officiating. Interment was in the Knowles Cemetery.

Rogers
Daphne Irene Rogers, 84, of Ellinwood, KS died Tuesday, November 5, 2002, at Central Kansas Medical Center in Great Bend, KS.
Daphne was born November 29, 1917, in Wagoner, OK to George Arthur and Beulah Collins Bobo. She had been a resident of Ellinwood, KS since 1988 having formerly lived in Mooreland, Beaver and Keota.
On December 2, 1938, she married Howard Earl Rogers in Checotah. He died February 24, 1980.
Survivors include her son, Howard E. Rogers of Ellinwood, KS; two brothers, Hubert Bobo of Checotah and Walter Bobo Muldrow; grandsons, Jerry Rogers of McPherson, KS and Jim Rogers of Hutchinson, KS; granddaughter, Jennifer of Manhattan, KS; great-grandsons, Jonathan Rogers and Jacob Rogers, both of McPherson, KS and niece, Holly Spencer of Drumright.
She was preceded in death by three brothers, Cecil, Cornell and Charles; infant son, George Arthur and sister, Ethlyne Huffman.
Funeral services were Friday, November 8, 2002, at Calvary Baptist Church in Ellinwood, KS with Rev. Mike Trent and Ray Willlis officiating. Graveside services were Saturday, November 9, 2002 at Haskell Memorial Cemetery in Haskell, OK with Rev. Cal Hunter officiating.
Howard
Graveside services for Mabel M. Howard, 86, of Norman, were Friday, September 27, 2002, at Kiowa Cemetery in Logan with Dr. Marcus Adair officiating.
Mrs. Howard died Tuesday, September 24, at Norman Regional Hospital.
She was born February 13, 1916, to Pete and Alice (Thompson) Morris in Logan. She moved to Norman in 1961.
She is survived by a son, Verner Howard of Norman; daughter-in-law, Esther Howard of Oklahoma City; two granddaughters, Charla Cheek of Salt Lake City, UT and Carla Mains and husband, Mike of Tulsa; four great-grandchildren, Christopher, Jenison, Michael and Jodi; two great-great-grandchildren, Brandon and Michelle; two sisters, Gerie McNerlin of Perryton, TX and Irene Boileau of Anthony, KS, and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Fred C. Howard, and a son, Freddie Wayne Howard.
Laverty
Ronica Jill Laverty, died suddenly on Tuesday, September 24, 2002, in the Woodward Regional Hospital at Woodward at the age of 28. She was born June 14, 1974, at Laverne, the youngest of five children to Ronnie Lea and Donna J. (Welch) Mead. She lived in and attended several different schools in various parts of the country including the Beaver Schools at Beaver.
On December 23, 2000, she was united in marriage to Sheldon Lynn Laverty at Lipscomb, TX. The family made their home in the Logan community.
She was preceded in death by her grandfathers, Buck Mead on October 14, 1995 and Myron Welch on October 6, 1989.
Survivors include her husband, Sheldon Laverty; daughter, Jaci Brittnie Laverty and son, Cutter Lee Laverty, all of the home; parents, Ron and Donna Mead of Buffalo; brothers, Vernon "Bud" Wallis of Dodge City, KS and Colt Mead of Cheyenne, WY; sisters, Christeena Jackson of Dodge City, KS and Ginger Wallis of Laverne; grandmothers, Ruth Mead of Greensburg, KS and Laura Welch of Dodge City, KS; father-in-law, Jerald and wife, Carol Laverty of Laverne; mother-in-law, Donnica and husband Rusty Tregellas of Booker, TX and a host of other relatives and many friends.

Knoles
Tim Knoles, 30, of Tyrone, died Tuesday, September 10, 2002, at the Wesley Medical Center in Wichita, KS.
He was born December 4, 1971, at Hamilton, OH.
He attended school at Beaver. He lived in Russell, KS six years before moving to the Tyrone community where he was working as a diesel mechanic. Tim enjoyed working on old cars, in restoration and mechanical.
Survivors include his four children: Olivia and Tyler Knoles of Russell, KS and Christopher and Keirston Knoles of Tyrone; his companion, Crystal Carmody of Tyrone; his parents, Robert and Gail McIntire of Turpin; three brothers, Clay Knoles of Little Rock, AR, Smitty and Chad McIntire, both of Liberal, KS; four sisters, Cheryl Usrey and husband Robert of Pauls Valley, Michelle Keither and husband Jack of Rogers, AR, Cindy Standridge and husband Raymond of Little Rock, AR and DeeDee Luebbers and husband Danny of Liberal, KS; grandmother, Delores Shepherd of Beaver; an uncle, David Bentley of Turpin; two aunts, Vickie Mitchell and husband Mike of Crane, TX and Sandy Gray and husband Tom of McCarney, TX; seven nephews and six nieces.

Brower
Bob L. Brower, age 67, of Pampa, TX died Friday, September 20, 2002, in Amarillo, TX.
He was born July 3, 1935, in Avant near Ramona, OK. He graduated from Hoisington, Kansas High School in 1954, where he met and married Juanita Marie Woydziak January 17, 1955, in Beaver. They were high school sweethearts and were married 47 years.
He retired as a production foreman from Cities Service Oil Company in 1990. His career with Cities Service began in Hoisington, KS; then moved to Lindsay, OK for a couple of years. He resided in Beaver for 13 years before moving to Moore for three years. He had lived in Pampa, TX since 1976.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Troy and Velma Brower and a brother, Leon Brower.
Survivors include his wife, Juanita, four children and 12 grandchildren; Rick and Vicki Brower of Dohoa, Qatar and children, Debra, Trisha and Michael; Roy and Patti Brower of Kirkland, WA and children, Becca and Tony Perkins, Kathy and Betsy; Linda and Jeff Trimble of Ulysses, KS and children, Gwen, Jason and Chad; Janice and Jimmy Miner of Pampa, TX and children, Jessica, Jared and Joshua; and two brothers, Don Brower of Lyons, KS and Danny Brower of Kiowa, KS.

Claybrook
Joe DeLoren Claybrook was born on September 2, 1930, in Boyd, OK to Joe and Malva Beatrice (Chuesburg) Claybrook. He attended school at Palestine, Bethany and graduated from Balko High School in 1948. He attended Panhandle State University graduating in 1952. He was working as a fabrication inspector for the city of Detroit when he retired due to ill health.
Joe died on Thursday, September 19, 2002, in Detroit, MI at the age of 72.
He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister.
Survivors include his sons, Charles Claybrook of Channing, TX and Bobby Claybrook of Skillmon, NJ; daughters, Beverly Sparkman of Elkhart, KS, and Donna Jo Ledford of McPherson, KS; four sisters, Donna Kippenberger of Guymon, Doris Sumrall of Mooreland, Darlene Nelson of Elko, NV and Dolores Bartel of Balko; one brother, Clarence Shorb of Irving, TX; 14 grandchildren, three great-grandchildren and a host of other relatives and friends.
Funeral services were Wednesday, September 25, 2002, in the Chapel of Clark Funeral Service with Joe Day officiating. Interment was in Bethany Cemetery, Bryans Corner.
The family suggests memorials to any cancer society or favorite charity.
Barth
Ramona Aileen Messner Barth, the oldest child of Wilbur Jacob and Hazel Isola Bridges Messner, was born on November 17, 1929, in Booker, TX. She died Monday, September 23, 2002, in Woodward at the age of 72.
Ramona attended school at Sophia, Overstreet, graduating from Laverne with the class of 1947. She later attended practical nursing school at Woodward, graduating with the class of 1963. She served as a LPN at Laverne, Shattuck, Buffalo and Beaver hospitals.
Following her high school graduation, Ramona married Bill Barth at her parent’s home near Slapout. To this union were born two children, Claudia Jo and Hank Jay.
Preceding her in death were Claudia Jo, Bill and her father, Wilbur Messner.
She is survived by her mother, Hazel Messner; brother and sister-in-law, Milton and Bebeanne Messner; son, Hank Barth and wife Mary Chris; grandchildren, Zeb and Lissa Barth; nephew, Van Messner and family, all of Slapout; grandson, Midshipman Fourth Class Will Barth of Annapolis, MD; niece Vicki Perkins and family of Norman; one special aunt, Pauline Messner and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.
According to Ramona’s wishes, her body was donated to medical research. A memorial service will be held at Catesby United Methodist Church September 29, 2002, at 11:00 a.m. with Reverend Carole Reich officiating.

Jackson
Harry A. Jackson, age 92, of Borger, TX died Friday, September 20, 2002, in Borger.
Mr. Jackson was born on August 30, 1910, in Rising Sun, IN and had lived in Borger since 1943. He was owner and refrigeration service technician of Jackson Refrigeration Rentals and Leasing. He was also co-owner of Jackson’s Paint and Wallpaper.
Survivors include his wife, Marie Jackson of Borger, TX; son, Gary Jackson and wife Lynda of Slidell, LA; two daughters, Charlene and husband Glen Buckles of Borger, TX and Bette and husband, Michael Moscarello of Rockwell, TX; sister, Loudella Davis of Beaver; nine grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren.
Services were Tuesday, September 24, 2002, at the First United Methodist Church with Rev. Jim Terry, Pastor, officiating. Interment was in "The Garden of Serenity" at Westlawn Memorial Park in Borger, TX.

Bridwell
Robert Ross Bridwell was born February 19, 1923, in Beaver County. His parents were Hugh Vivian and Crystal Perkins Bridwell.
The oldest of five children he attended school at Beaver and Guthrie thru the 10th grade. He worked for Civilian Conservation Corps from April 1940 thru March 1941 in Buffalo. He served in U.S. Army from January 1943 to January 1946 in the 799th Military Police Battalion in the Pacific Theater.
On March 31, 1947, he married Velma D. Mosburg in Meade, KS. He worked on the Barby farm after the marriage. He also worked for the Oklahoma Highway Department until he retired in 1989.
Survivors include his wife of the home; two daughters Betty Marie and husband, Eugene Schollen-berger of Tuscon, AZ and Roberta Dorene of Spearman, TX; one son, Roy Glenn and wife Joy of Forgan; nine grandchildren, Eugene, Jr., Brandon, Dakota, Brandi, Sandra, Melissa, Jennifer, Kyle and Blake; 19 great-grandchildren and 19 nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents, parents, one brother and oldest son, Robert Dean.
Funeral services were Monday, September 16, 2002, at the Beaver First Christian Church with Dr. Don Rogers officiating and Jim Sutherland assisting. Interment was in Pioneer Cemetery with the Beaver American Legion Post 149 doing graveside rites.
Kippenberger
James Richard ‘Jim" Kippenberger, 64, longtime Guymon resident died Wednesday, August 28, at Baptist St. Anthony’s Hospital in Amarillo, TX.
The son of Dr. L.H. and Catherine (Perring) Kippen-berger, he was born March 27, 1938, in Okeene and the family moved to Guymon in 1948. Jim graduated high school from the Abbey, Canon City, CO in 1958, where he enjoyed many memories of fun and practical jokes and established lifelong friendships. In 1962, he obtained a Bachelor Degree in agronomy and chemistry from Oklahoma Panhandle State University in Goodwell.
He was united in marriage to Donna Sue Claybrook on July 7, 1962, in Guymon. Jim was a farmer and was active in St. Peter’s Catholic Church and the Knights of Columbus. Jim enjoyed his neighbors, friends and coffee shop companions. His hobbies included trap shooting, fishing, hunting and his grandchildren.
He is survived by his wife, Donna Sue Kippenberger; a daughter, Carol Lynn Holland and husband, Ross Holland; and a son, Patrick Wade Kippenberger and wife, Tracy, all of Guymon; two sisters, Lou Ann Batey of Oklahoma City and Sally Gregory and husband, Roy Gregory of Shell, WY and three grandchildren, Bryce Colton Kippenberger, Catherine Nicole Kippenberger and Cody Nathaniel Hoegner.
His parents, Dr. L.H. and Catherine Kippenberger and a brother, Gary Kippenberger, preceded him in death.
Rosary services were Friday, August 30, at 7 p.m. at the Henson-Novak Funeral Chapel, officiated by the Knights of Columbus.
Mass of Christian Burial was conducted Saturday, August 31, at 10 a.m. at St. Peter’s Catholic Church in Guymon with Father Scott Adams officiating. Interment was in Elmhurst Cemetery under the direction of Henson-Novak Funeral Directors in Guymon.

Walker
Dorothy Isis Walker was born July 17, 1926, in Leeds West, England. Her parents were George Collinson, a piano tuner, and Alice Gothard Collinson.
On September 27, 1945, she married John Walker, an American serviceman, at Bury St. Edward’s in the County of West Suffolk. She came back with him to the United State in 1946.
John and Dorothy lived near Elmwood for several years before moving to Beaver. She worked as a telephone operator in Beaver but most of her life she stayed home and enjoyed being a homemaker.
Dorothy died Sunday, August 25, 2002, at Baptist Hospital in Oklahoma City.
Funeral services were held at the Beaver United Methodist Church with Rev. John Breon officiating. Interment was at Pioneer Cemetery.
Lyle
James Cain Lyle died Friday, August 9, 2002. He was born July 10, 1913, in Chickasha. His parents were Ina Cain Lyle and Robert A. Lyle II. His brother was Robert A. Lyle III and his sister was Roberta Stegall.
Jim graduated from Chickasha High School and Oklahoma A&M College, which later became Oklahoma State University. While attending college, he met his future wife, Doris Mae Wells. They were married in Beaver on September 22, 1935. Their first homes were in Oklahoma City and Tulsa where Jim worked for Oklahoma Natural Gas Company.
They moved to Beaver in 1940 and Jim went to work at the First National Bank, which later became the First Security Bank. He was chairman of the Board at his retirement.
Surviving relatives are a son, Doug Lyle and his wife, Barbara of Corpus Christi, TX; a son, David Lyle of Oklahoma City; a daughter, Nancy and her husband Bob Jamison of Beaver; and grandchildren, Susan Lyle, Dean Lyle, Hillary Jamison and Dace Jamison.
Jim was a longtime member of the First United Methodist Church in Beaver, a charter member of Beaver Rotary Club, a Mason and a founding member of the first Cowchip Committee.
Funeral services were Monday, August 12, 2002, in the Beaver Methodist Church with Rev. John Breon officiating. Interment was in Pioneer Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Beaver Nutrition Center or a charity of your choice.

Caldwell
Paul Dean Caldwell died Sunday, August 4, 2002, at the age of 49. He was born to Paul Baker Caldwell and Meadean Brown Caldwell on February 22, 1953, in Beaver. He died in Beaver.
He went school at Balko School through the eighth grade. He transferred to Beaver High School and graduated from there in 1971. After graduating from Beaver, he went to college at Tonkawa for one year.
On March 8, 1975, he married Diana Faye Kane in Meade, KS. To this union was born a son, Jamie Paul on August 27, 1977, and a daughter, Candace Michelle on September 5, 1981.
Paul and Diana have made their home in Beaver County where he has been a farmer-rancher for the past 30 years. He actively supported the activities of his children while they were growing up. Paul has been an inspiration to all those that have witnessed his courage during his fight with cancer. He showed daily his faith in God.
He was preceded in death by two nieces, Melissa Jean Coxwell and Jennifer Colleen Malone, and one nephew Rocky Dean Coxwell.
He is survived by his wife, Diana Faye Caldwell; his son and daughter-in-law, Jamie Paul and Amanda Caldwell; granddaughter, Cheyenne Lane Caldwell; his daughter, Candace Michelle Caldwell, all of Beaver County. He is also survived by his parents, Paul B. and Maedean Caldwell of Beaver County; three sisters and their spouses, Deloris and Norman Coxwell of Booker, TX. Vivian and Corky Godfrey of Pampa, TX and Debra and Gene Fox of Amarillo, TX. Other survivors are four nephews, Scott Coxwell of Perryton, TX, Gregory Malone of Pampa, TX, Jeff Frazell and Jody Fox of Amarillo, TX; five great-nephews and three great-nieces.
Funeral services were Thursday, August 8, 2002, at the First Christian Church in Beaver with Dennis Warren officiating and Brian Loreg assisting. Interment was at the Pioneer Cemetery in Beaver.

Woodson
Ross E. Woodson died suddenly due to a drilling rig accident on Saturday, August 10, 2002, near Decator, TX at the age of 56 years.
He was born September 23, 1945, to John Robert and Lora Thelma (Blosser) Wooden at the family farm in the Logan community in Beaver County and was raised in the Logan community. He attended the Victory Country School before attending the Laverne Schools graduating with the Class of 1963. He attended Panhandle State University in Goodwell graduating with a bachelor of science degree in pre-vet.
On December 18, 1965, he married Joyce Lynne Raney in Beaver. They were blessed with three daughters, Lisa Rachelle, Laura Diane and Sheila Lynne and one son, Ross "Eric". The family made their home on the family farm. Ross operated the family farm and enjoyed raising cattle and farming. He owned and operated his own business "Woodson Commodities" in Follett, TX for 18 years.
Ross served in the United States Army reserves for seven years, and served as a drill sergeant for a time.
He is preceded in death by his parents "Bob" on November 21, 1989, Lora on February 16, 1972 and first born nephew, Mike Long May 1, 2001.
Survivors include three daughters, Lisa Moore and husband Mike of Liberal, KS, Laura Rutschman and husband Jeff of Dodge City, KS and Sheila King and husband Jim of Wann, OK; one son, "Eric" Woodson and wife Nicole of Mooreland; three brothers, Carl Woodson of Lawton, Robert and wife Sharon Woodson of Logan and Wayne Woodson of Woodard; three sisters, Thelma Long and husband Lowell of Granby, MS, Leora Bridgewater and Herbert of Durant and Shirley Woodson of Woodward; six grandchildren; one uncle, Woodrow Blosser of Woodward, other nephews, nieces, cousins and relatives and a host of friends.
Funeral services were Thursday, August 15, 2002, at the Apostolic Faith Church with brother-in-law Rev. Lowell Long and Rev. Ann Holman officiating. Interment was in the Woodson Ranch Cemetery in Logan.

Whisenant
Alice Edna Whisenant, age 96, died Monday, August 26, 2002, at Southwest Medical Center in Liberal, KS.
Alice, the daughter of James Abraham and Estella (Quick) McWilliams was born on March 4, 1906, on the homestead in Beaver County.
On March 4, 1930, she married L.C. "Cull" Whisenant at Forgan. He died December 29, 1994. They made their home on a farm in the Turpin community. In 1946, the family moved to Liberal, KS; however, they continued farming until 1974, when their son, Joe, took over the farming operation.
Survivors include one daughter, June Kissock and husband, Jerry of Ft. Collins, CO; one daughter-in-law, Janet Whisenant of Liberal, KS; one brother, James Ray McWilliams of Perryton, TX, one sister-in-law, Gladys McWilliams of Knoxville, TN; five grandchildren, Tony Ray Whisenant, John Kelly Kissock, Timothy Joseph Kissock, William Jerry Kissock, and Diana Carol Hunter.; six great-grandchildren, Traci Whisenant, Crystal Hunter, Kyle Kissock, Ethan Kissock, Samantha Whisenant and Preston Whisenant and a host of nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her son, Joe Whisenant and sister, Billie Oxelson.
Funeral services were Wednesday, August 28, 2002, at Kitch-Brenneman Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. John Andrews and Rev. John Loucks presiding. Interment was in Liberal cemetery.
Reiswig
David E. Reiswig, 57, of Evansville, IN died Saturday, August 17, 2002, at North Park Nursing center.
David received his bachelor of music education from North Texas State Universaity in Denver, TX; a master of french horn from the University of Wisconsin in Madison, WI; his doctor of musical arts from the Catholic University of America in Washington, D.C. He was a musician with the United States Navy Band in Washington, D.C.; principal horn of the Kansas City, MO Philharmonic and the Honululu Symphony; and third horn in the St. Louis Symphony. He also played with the Opera Theater in St. Louis and was principal horn of the Evansville Philharmonic Orchestra and the Owensboro Symphony.
David is survived by his wife of 34 years, Kathryn Reiswig of Evansville, IN; daughters, Elizabeth L. Reiswig of Asheville, NC and Christina Marie Reiswig of Evansville,IN; brother, Gary Reiswig of East Hampton, NY, brother-in-law, Scott VanDeburgh of Beaver, and seven nieces and nephews.
Services were Tuesday, August 20, 2002, at Methodist Temple.
Hodges
Derek Lee Hodges was born September 4, 1981, to J.W. and Carol Hodges in Beaver and died Friday, August 9, 2002.
Derek began and finished his school years in the Forgan school system and graduated in 2000, with football as one of his favorite subjects.
Adept with his hands, Derek applied that skill as a mechanic and in various creations. He loved his job and was respected and appreciated by the crew members and area supervisors at Cooper Energy Services.
Derek loved to see it rain which gave him ample opportunity to test out his four-wheel drive vehicles. He loved to play in the "mud."
Derek had a wonderful sense of humor, with having a fabulous memory, he enjoyed jokes on himself and on other people.
You just knew you were Derek’s friend, and you knew that you never asssumed Derek knew what you wanted, all you had to do was "just ask." He was easy going and demonstrated a great "BIG" love in his heart for everyone.
Derek lived life to its fullest and he always had a good time. He tried to squeeze a lot out of life. He enjoyed listening to music as well as playing music on his guitar.
Derek’s relationship with God was something like the areas of his life; he kept it to himself, he just believed that he had one.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents Wayne and Faye Hodges; his grandfather, Joe Osteen; and his uncle, Michael DuBois.
Survivors include his father, J.W. Hodges; his mother Carol and Cecil Tedder; his sister, Robin Elfers and her husband, Ray; his brother, Korey; grandmothers, Amelia (Mickey) Ratlief and Sue Osteen; and a host of cherished friends and family.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, August 13, 2002, at the Forgan High School with Jim Maynard officiating. Interment was in the Forgan Cemetery.
Cole
Jimmie Cole died Wednesday, July 24, 2002, at 85 years of age. He was born June 19, 1917, in Beaver County to Braton James Cole and Myrtle McCune Cole. Jimmie graduated from high school in Beaver and married Mary Rathbone on March 19, 1938 in Haven, KS and to this union three children were born.
Jimmie was employed as a grocer for many years with Ideal grocery store and managed stores in Hugoton, KS and Hooker, OK. After returning to the Beaver area to farm and ranch, Jimmie was involved as a Rotarian, a 32nd degree Mason, a school board member for two terms, hospital and nursing home administrator, member of the Beaver Quarterback Club, driver of the activity bus for the schools, and had received his pin for 42 years of service to the Beaver County Conservation District Board.
Jimmie was preceded in death by his parents, and brothers, William Ralph Cole and Clifford Lynn Cole.
Survivors include his wife Mary of Beaver; two daughters, Sharon Gauthier and husband, Fred of Ardmore and Linda Atkinson and husband, Larry of Norman; son, Jimmie Dorsey Cole and wife, Carol of Beaver; grandchildren, Elizabeth Grundy and husband, Tim of Oklahoma City, Stephen Gauthier and wife, Christine of Oklahoma City, Cole Atkinson and wife, Stephanie of Norman, Braton James Cole and wife, Courtney of Valrico, FL, Stephanie McKinney and husband, Mike of Tulsa and Kerri Beth Cole of Beaver.
Jimmie’s surviving great-grandchildren are Stephen Atkinson, Kinley and Carter Cole, Caitlin and Hannah Grundy, and Abigail McKinney. Other survivors include nieces Barba Yates, Carol Joy Cook, and Sheila Stickler, nephew Stanley Cole and cousin Jeanette Evans and many friends.
Funeral services were Saturday, July 27, 2002, at the Beaver First Christian Church with Mike Crow officiating and Edwin Waterbury assisting. Interment was in Pioneer Cemetery.
Phelps
Bobbie Ray Phelps was born west of Beaver on July 15, 1929, to Clair and Beulah Phelps and died Monday, July 22, 2002, in Oklahoma City, at the age of 73.
He attended elementary schools in Beaver and in Troutdale, OR, returning to Beaver his freshman year. He graduated from Beaver High School in 1948.
Bobbie served in the Air Force, taking basic training in San Antonio. He was also stationed in Frankfurt, Germany, as well as at the SAC base in Harlingen, TX, where he was a supply sergeant. He was discharged from the service on December 15, 1954.
On February 14, 1956, he married Camilla Wilson at Clayton, NM. They spent 46 joyous years together.
After his time in the service to his country, Bob roughnecked in the oil fields, worked in the shop with his father Clair, and worked as a shop manger in Madras, OR. Before returning to Oklahoma he worked as equipment manager for Portland General Electric in Madras. In 1978, he and Camilla moved to Enid where he worked for S&T Dozers as equipment manager. In 1983 they returned to Beaver where he worked for the Soil Conservation Service, retiring in November 2001.
He is survived by his wife Camilla; his son, Steven; grandsons, Justin and Judd; sisters, Donna White of Beaver, Clara Lou Gregg and husband, Irtle Joe of Beaver, Jerry Moody and husband, Bill of Kellyville, OK and Betty Latham of Newport, OR, as well as many nieces, nephews and a host of friends.
He was preceded in death by his baby Ricky Ray Phelps, his parents, Clair and Beulah and brothers, Bernard and Clyde (Dink) Phelps.
Funeral services were Friday, July 26, 2002, at the Beaver United Methodist Church with Bill Moore officiating. Interment was in Pioneer Cemetery.

Bridwell
Graveside services were Thursday, July 25, 2002, at Wade, OK cemetery for Montie I. Bridwell, 87, who died Monday, July 22, 2002, at the Medical Center of Southeastern Oklahoma in Durant. Rev. Rick Fennel officiated.
Montie was born May 8, 1915 in Granite to Luther and Myrtle Bridwell. On July 24, 1947, he married Lois Fuller.
He worked as a barber and was self-employed for 30 years. He was in the U.S. Army from January 24, 1941 to September 26, 1945 serving his country during World War II.
Survivors include his wife, Lois of 55 years; one son, Montie D. and wife, Penny of Wade; brother, Paul and wife, Jerry of Forgan; brother, Dale and wife, Virginia of Bella Vista, AR; sister, Pauline Curfman of Beaver and sister-in-law, Leona Bridwell of Beaver.
He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Irene McCoy; brother, Cecil Bridwell and brother-in-law, Joe Curfman.
Parkhurst
Lepha Belle Parkhurst was born to Anna and Ed Ernest in Drumright on October 15, 1919. She died Tuesday, July 16, 2002, in the Beaver County Nursing Home at the age of 82 years.
On February 16, 1936, Lepha married Arthur George Rowe in Welman, CA. Two children were born to this union, Billy R. and Florence Gail. She later married Jim H. Parkhurst in Stafford, AZ. Three children were born to this union, Amanda Ann, Jimmie Lee and Beckie Gwen.
She was a homemaker most of her life, working outside the home during World War II in the shipyards and later as a health care provider. She retired in 1981 in San Angelo, TX, later moved to Beaver and in May 2001 became a resident of the Beaver County Nursing Home.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Anna and Ed Ernest; step-dad, Bob McCune; two brothers, Stanley Ernest and Bobbie McCune; spouses, Arthur Rowe and Jim Parkhurst; daughters, Amanda Ann and Gail Keefer; grandson, Ricky Keefer and son-in-law, Wayne Templin.
Survivors include her sister, Hazel Conseen and husband, Fred of Lakewood, CO; brother, Mike McCune and wife, Gloria of Plummer, ID; her children, Bill Rowe and wife, Betty Sue of Canyon, TX, Jimmie Templin, Delanna Miller of Tucumcari, NM, Beckie Horton and husband, Jerry of Kansas City, MO; 12 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.
Jones
Mason Leo "Pete" Jones, age 88, of Vici died Friday, June 28, 2002 in Beaver.
Funeral services were Monday, July 1, 2002 at the First United Methodist Church in Vici. Interment was in Camargo Cemetery.
Winchester
Leola Virginia (McVicker) Winchester, the daughter of Fred H. and Anna Elizabeth (Dixon) McVicker was born March 2, 1922, at the family farm near Logan in Beaver County and died on Tuesday, June 25, 2002, at the Renaissance Retirement Center in Stillwater.
On September 11, 1937, Leola married Kenneth Winchester in Buffalo with their mothers and Almyra McDaniel as witnesses. Later they moved to the family farm in Beaver County where they lived until Kenneth died in 1997.
Leola and her twin sister, Levona went to beauty school in the early sixties and later operated "The Twins Cut & Curl" beauty shop in the Logan community for many years.
With the exception of a few years in her childhood and the last 5 /12 years of her life Leola lived on the family farm where she was born.
In 1997 she moved to Laverne to be near her special nephew, Pat Pinckard and his wife Florence and their family. She remained in Laverne until her health failed, at which time she moved into a retirement center in Stillwater.
She was preceded in death by her parents, brothers, Ed, George and Charlie and sisters, Leota McVicker, Opal Nielsen, LaWanda Bettencourt and her twin Lavona Pinckard.
She is survived by one sister, Lola Moore of Mt. Vernon, WA; nephew, Pat and Florence Pinckard and their family; Pam, Bill, Kyle, Patrick and Riley Richardson of Edmond; Patricia, Carl, Spencer and Carson Gedon of Stillwater; brother-in-law Calvin and Beula Winchester; sister-in-law, Vivian Herron and Carol, along with several nephews, nieces and many friends.
Funeral services were Friday, June 28, 2002, at the Midway Church with Rev. Jack Cornell and Rev. Bob Taylor officiating. Interment was in Kiowa Cemetery.
Dye
Barbara J. Dye of Thornton, CO, age 69, died Tuesday, June 25, 2002, at her home of a sudden illness. She was a former Liberal, KS resident.
She was born in Pritchett, CO on November 11, 1932, to JB and Lela (Harvey) Moore. Barbara was a telephone operator for Southwestern Bell in Liberal and transferred to Denver, CO in 1978. She was promoted to plant line assignee and retired in 1993 after 27 years with the company.
Survivors include three sons, Terry Reddick and wife, Linda of Beaver, Larry Reddick and wife, Pam of Overland Park, KS and Tim Dye of Thornton, CO; two daughters, Brenda Havens and husband, Jim of Monument, CO and Valerie Branson and husband, Rod of Thornton, CO; one sister, Leota O’Bannon and husband, Ray of Boswell, OK and six grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents and two brothers.
Funeral services were Monday, July 1, 2002, at Olinger’s Highland Mortuary in Thornton, CO.
Fry
Georgia Mae Chambless Fry, 88, of Yukon, died Tuesday, July 2, 2002. She was born May 6, 1914, in Washita County to Benjamin and Tennie Holden Chambless.
After living in Beaver she moved to Yukon where she had been a resident for the last 15 years.
Survivors include her daughters, Saundra Neihart and Tena Fry Hough and husband, Alan, all of Yukon; niece Jacqueline Henderson of OKC, three grandchildren, five great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.
Services were Friday, July 5, 2002, at the First Baptist Church in Yukon. Burial was Saturday, July 6, 2002, at Beaver.
Smith
Darlene "Dar" Smith was born to Glen and Marciel Harryman on August 19, 1933. She died Friday, June 21, 2002, at Southwest Medical Center after a long battle with cancer at the age of 68.
On July 28, 1951, she was united in marriage to Billy Gene Smith in Clayton, NM. To this union two daughters, Kathryn and Janet, were born.
She was preceded in death by her father, mother, and husband.
Survivors include Kathryn and Michael Russell of Liberal, KS; Jane and Jerry Almond of Tipton; grandchildren, Christopher and Amy Almond of Beaver, Becky and Andy Roose of Fort Morgan, CO, T.J. Almond of Beaver; step-granddaughters, Alicia Barton and Christi Russell; great-grandchildren, Tate Parker, Temera Parker, and Nicholas Almond; step-great-granddaughter, Brianna Heckert; two sisters, Glenna Leason and Raedene Thompson and brother Gorlyn Harryman and a host of friends and family.
Funeral services were Monday, June 24, 2002, at the Beaver United Methodist Church with John Breon officiating. Interment at Beaver Pioneer Cemetery following service.
Davis
Jerry Lee Davis, 50, died of a sudden illness Friday, June 21, 2002, at his home.
He was born October 3, 1951, at Beaver, the son of LaVerne D. and Doris Criswell Davis.
Jerry grew up in the Balko community and graduated from Turpin High School in 1969. After graduation, Jerry took computer classes in Kansas City and attended Southwestern Oklahoma State University in Weatherford. He returned to the Balko community, where he was engaged in farming, ranching and owned a gravel business.
On December 6, 1982, he married Trella L. Hill in Beaver and to this union two sons were born.
He is survived by two sons, Colt Lee Davis of Turpin and Heath Vern Davis of Balko; companion, Deborah Cowan of Beaver; step-son, Josh Randall of Woodward; his parents, LaVerne and Doris Davis of Balko; one sister, Karen Gross and husband Joe of Balko.
Funeral services were Monday, June 24, 2002, at the First Christian Church in Beaver with Rev. Mike Crow officiating. Interment was in Liberal Cemetery in Liberal, KS.
The family suggests memorials be sent to the Jerry L. Davis Memorial Fund, c/o the Bank of Beaver City, Turpin Branch, Turpin or Miller Mortuary in Liberal, KS.
Gowan
Stacy K. Gowan, age 33, died Sunday, June 23, 2002, at her mother’s residence in Turpin.
She was born January 9, 1969, the daughter of Jewel R. and Mary Ann (Kost) Musgrave.
She graduated from Liberal High School in 1987. A resident of Oklahoma City for 10 years, she moved back to Turpin one year ago. She worked as a dispatcher for Halliburton.
Survivors include two daughters, Jessica Ann Castenada and Mariana Castenada, both of Turpin; mother, Mary Ann Musgrave of Turpin; brother, Jay Musgrave of Turpin and sister, Tammy Janzen of Liberal, KS.
She was preceded in death by her father, Jewel, grandparents, Glenn and Irene Kost and Lee and Tennie Musgrave.
Funeral services were Wednesday, June 26, 2002, at Turpin Baptist Church in Turpin with Pastor Wyatt Carpenter presiding. Interment was in Restlawn Cemetery in Liberal, KS.

Slatten
Tyson V. Slatten, 24, Plainville, KS, a former Forgan resident died Thursday, June 6, 2002, at Plainville, KS of injuries in a auto accident.
He was born September 20, 1977, at Liberal, KS, the son of Jake and Lesa Oyler Slatten.
He graduated from Forgan High School in 1995 and worked the oilfields several years. He moved to Plainville, KS and was working as a maintenance person at a feed yard.
In 1997, he married Abbie Watson at Perryton, TX.
He is survived by two daughters, Camryn and Reyn Slatten of Bucklin, KS; his parents, Jake and Lesa Slatten of Forgan; one sister, Hanna Slatten of Forgan; grandparents, Jack and Jackie Bob Slatten of Turpin and Kathleen Oyler of Forgan; great-grandparents, Myrle Oyler and C. C. Elliott, both of Forgan; many aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his grandfather Verl Oyler.
Funeral services were Saturday, June 8, 2002, at the Methodist Church in Forgan with Larry Hodges presiding. Interment was in the Forgan Cemetery.
