Bessie Lloyd funeral Friday
Funeral services for Bessie Lloyd, age 62 of Clinton, will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at the True Gospel Tabernacle on Glenn Smith Road in Clinton with Rev. Jealden Carr and Rev. Billy Mucker officiating. Lloyd died late Monday, Nov. 17, 2003, at the Grace Living Center in Clinton. She was born on June 20, 1941 in Tolani, Ariz., the daughter of Elsie Riggs. Growing up in Leupp, Ariz., she graduated from Winslow High School in 1959. She moved to California for a short time and in 1965 moved to Oklahoma where she attended then Southwestern State College at Weatherford. Lloyd worked for the Department of Human Services and Tuberculosis Sanitarium while living in Clinton. In 1968 she married Arthur Lloyd in Kansas. They moved back to Leupp, Ariz. where she taught school for a short time before returning to Clinton and working for the Indian Health Services for 28 years before retiring in 2003. She loved football and following her sons’ games. Preceding her in death were her father, her husband and a daughter, Diane. Burial will conclude in the Clinton Cemetery under the direction of the Stanley-Lee Funeral Home in Clinton. Survivors include two sons, James and Arthur Lloyd, Jr., both of Clinton; a stepson, Keith Tall Bear of Watonga; her mother, Elsie Riggs of Flagstaff, Ariz.; sisters, Margaret Tom of Windowrock, Ariz., Jeanie Haskie of Tsalie, Ariz., Margery White of Flagstaff, Lorraine Yazzie, Lula Leonheart, Carol Robbins, Verleen Bowman; brothers, Joe Yazzie of Leupp, Ariz., Harry Yazzie, Harvey Riggs, Benson Riggs, Jesse Riggs, Sr. and Eugene Riggs, all of Flagstaff; four grandchildren, Morgan, Lexis, Lorenzo and Lous Lloyd; and a very dear friend, Jealden Carr of Clinton.

Jeanne Wells funeral Friday
Funeral services for Jeanne Lavonne Smith Wells, 76, will be held in Tulsa at the First Presbyterian Church Kerr Chapel on Friday at 2 p.m. A Scottsdale, Ariz. service was held this morning at the Messenger Pinnacle Peak Chapel. Wells died at her Scottsdale home on Saturday, Nov. 15, 2003. Jeanne, formerly of Tulsa, was born in Arapaho to Miles Milbury Wil-son Smith and Winnie Myrtle Bray Smith on Dec. 4, 1926. Her 3-year-old son, Richard Brent Wells, preceded her in death in 1955. She graduated from Clinton High School and attended college at Oklahoma State University where she was a majorette. Jeanne met Jim at OSU, and they married on Feb. 1, 1947 at First Presbyte-rian Church in Stillwater. While raising her sons in Sand Springs, OK, she was an active member of First Presbyterian Church as a Sunday school teacher and a Cub Scout mother. In the mid-70's Jim and Jeanne moved to Tulsa where she was involved in many civic and political organizations and campaigns. Jeanne was appointed to the first Board of Regents for Tulsa Junior College (now TCC) in 1969. She and Jim were members of First Presbyterian Church, and Southern Hills Country Club in Tulsa. Her many volunteer activities included Children’s Day Nursery, Tulsa Children’s Home, Tulsa Opera Guild, AFS and was a member of the Seed N’ Weed Garden Club of Tulsa for over 50 years. In 1993 Jim and Jeanne established a residence in Scottsdale, Ariz., living in Terravita and their current residence in Desert Mountain. Jeanne loved playing bridge with the Newcom-ers Bridge Club, Terravita Bridge Group and she founded the Friday Bridge Club at Desert Mountain. Her family and friends will remember her needle-point, her demitasse cup collection, her bridge games, her cards sent to those she loved and her jokes. The family suggests that donations in her honor be made to Hospice of the Valley, 5111 N. Scottsdale Rd, Ste 280, Scottsdale, AZ 85250 or to the charity of your choice. Interment will be at Woodland Cemetery, Sand Springs, Okla. Survivors include her husband of 56 years, James Louis Wells; three sons, Mike Wells and his wife, Peggy, Steve Wells and his wife, Nancy, and Don Wells and his wife, Becky, all of Tulsa; nine grandchildren, Elizabeth Wells Bowlds, Margaret Wells, Mary Jeanne Wells, Daniel Wells, Anna Wells, Ryan Wells, Grant Wells, Sam Wells, all of Tulsa and Dr. Matthew Wells and his wife, Rebekah, of York, Pa.; and four great-grandchildren, Jay Wells, Charlie Bowlds, Jacob Mojica, of Tulsa and Vienna Wells of York, Pa.; her sisters; Velma Ratledge of Manteca, Calif., Alma Ogle of Pacific Grove, Calif., Joyce Stockton of Clinton, Wanda Stone of Tulsa; a brother, Melvin "Pete" Smith of Newton, Kans.; and 22 nieces and neph-ews.

Nellie Brehm services set
Funeral services for Nellie Brehm, age 90 of Clinton, will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday at the Kie-sau Memorial Chapel at the Kiesau-Marler Funeral Home in Clinton with Rev. Charles Murphy and Rev. Richard Deimund officiat-ing. Brehm died Monday, Nov. 17, 2003, at the United Methodist Health Care Center in Clinton. She was born on June 7, 1913 in Gotebo, one of 14 children born to Jessie and Bessie (Bennett) McMul-lin. Growing up in the Col-ony area, she moved to Clinton in 1942. She married John Brehm on Nov. 20, 1932 on a farm south of Weather-ford. Nellie worked for the Clinton Public Schools cafeterias for many years, retiring as head cook in the 60’s. She was a lifetime member of the Hub City Squares square dancing club. Brehm also was a member of the Free Will Baptist Church where she attended Sunday school. She enjoyed crocheting and cooking. Preceding her in death, along with her husband, John Brehm in 1991, and her parents, were a daughter, Ruby Brehm Hays; a son-in-law, Gordon Hays; four brothers; a sister; and two infant sisters. Interment will be in the Clinton Cemetery. Survivors include her daughters, Betty Hays and her husband, Bob, of Chickasha, Wanda Adams of Clinton, Mildred Deimund and her husband, Don, of Clinton; sons, Don Brehm and his wife, Deane, of Clinton, Jerry Brehm and his wife, Lynnell of Burns Flat, J.P. Brehm and his wife, Lorinda, of Oklahoma City, John Dale Brehm and his wife, Kay, of Weatherford; sisters, Edith VanDigelin of Oregon, Callie McMullin of Clinton, Lillian Lewellen and her husband, Ernest, of Clinton, Lois Meeks of Clinton, Alice Crawford of Okla-homa City, Violet McMullin of Clinton; 28 grand-children; 36 great grandchildren; and 12 great-great grandchildren.

Shelby Uzzel services set
Graveside services for Shelby H. Uzzel, Sr., age 82 of Clinton, will be held at 1 p.m. on Monday, Nov. 24, at the Clinton Cemetery with minister Pat Peters officiating. Shelby Hamilton Uzzel was born on Sept. 24, 1921 at Arcadia, Ark., the son of Silas J. and Mary (Eller) Uzzel. He died early Saturday, Nov. 15, 2003, at Integris Clinton Regional Hospital. Reared at County Line near Duncan, after his schooling he enlisted in the U.S. Air Force. As the result of a blind date he married Maye McCormick on March 28, 1944 at Baltimore, Md. Restationed to Florida, they lived there for a short time before his honorable discharge on Dec. 4, 1945. The young couple then moved to Edmond, and he went to work in the oil fields as a roughneck, traveling all over Oklahoma with the oilfield before settling in Woodward. He spent 25 years in the Woodward area, working his way up to tool pusher. He also operated a filling station until they moved to Clinton in 1983. He worked in the oilfield for a short time and also ran Shelby’s Lawn Service for several years. Uzzel was a member of the Church of Christ. Three years ago, his health began to fail and he moved into the Clinton Veterans Center. Preceding him in death, along with his parents, were a son, Shelby H. “Buddy” Uzzel, Jr.; and 11 brothers and sisters. Burial will conclude under the direction of the Stanley-Lee Funeral Home in Clinton. Survivors include his wife, Maye, of the home; and a sister, Elba Graham of Edmond. Shelby H. Uzzel, Sr.

Marik rites set
Funeral services for Lado Marik, age 93 of the Elk City Canute area, will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday in the Whinery Savage Funeral Service Chapel at 403 W. Country Club in Elk City with burial in the Canute Cemetery. Marik died on Sunday, Nov. 16, 2003, at the Bell Avenue Nursing Center in Elk City. He was born on the same date in 1911 north of Canute, the son of Louisa and Stanley Marik. He was involved in many construction projects, in-cluding Route 66, and considerable volunteer work, having served as a Canute volunteer fireman and on the town board.

Veran Waltrip services listed
Funeral services for Verna Pearl Waltrip, age 89 of Arapaho, will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the First Christian Church in Arapaho with Pastor Dean Brookshire and Rev. Sandy Shepherd officiating. Waltrip died Sunday, Nov. 16, 2003, at the Grace Living Center in Clinton. She was born on Oct. 17, 1914 in Muno, Kans., one of 12 siblings born to Otto and Eudora Pearl (Freeman) Parr. Growing up on a farm northwest of Arapaho, she married Duwayne “Trigger” Waltrip on June 29, 1936 in Arapaho. She was a member of the First Christian Church in Arapaho as well as of the Clinton Roundup Club for a number of years. She helped on the farm milking cows and often plowing. Waltrip was known for her chicken noodle soup and tomato preserves. Waltrip moved to Clinton in 1990 and attended the First Christian Church in Clinton. Interment will be in the Arapaho Cemetery under the direction of the Kiesau-Marler Funeral Home in Clinton. Survivors include her sons, Jerry Waltrip and his wife, Sharla, of Arapaho, Denver Waltrip and his wife, Carolyn, of Arapaho; brothers, Max Parr and his wife, Wilma, of Arapaho, Alvin Parr of Chickasha; sisters, Velma Wells and her husand, Jim, of Las Animas, Colo., Dorothy Cunningham of Newcastle, Gracie Hill and her husband, W.H., of California; grandchildren, Tamara Powell and her husband, Kent, DeAnn Sawsyer and her husband, Dax, Sheri Mahanay and her husband, Clint, Yvette Johnson and her husband, James; step-granddaughters, Shannon Cosper and Jennifer McCammond and her husband, Joey; great grand-children, Dasha and Daci Sawyer, Drew and Marly Mahanay, Holden and Hudson Powell, Renee and Jonathon Johnson; and special friends, Danny and Jackie Kisinger. Norma Allen rites Monday
Funeral services for Norma Jean Allen, 76, will be held at 2 p.m. Monday at the Dill City Church of Christ. Mrs. Allen died late Thursday, Nov. 13, 2003, at the Great Plains Regional Medical Center in Elk City. She had lived most of her life in the Dill City area. The former Norma Jean Reed was born April 15, 1927, at Burns Flat to Dennis and Mollie (Wooten) Reed. She attended elementary school in Burns Flat before graduating from Dill City High School in 1945. After working for two years at the Clinton Naval Air Station in Burns Flat, she married Lynn Curtis Allen on Dec. 15, 1946. They made their home at Elk City, later moving to Park County, Wyoming, for a short time. In 1950 they returned to Washita County, and in 1959 they bought the house at Dill City they had lived in for the past 44 years. A homemaker, Mrs. Allen worked with her husband on the family farm. She was noted as a cook and also enjoyed sewing, gardening and canning. Survivors include her husband of 57 years, Lynn, of the home in Dill City; two daughters and their husbands, Shelley and Eddie Smith, Elk City, and Linda and Calvin Kennett, Bethany; one son, Mike Allen, and his wife Brenda, Dill City; one sister, Wanelda Folks, and her husband Leroy, Yukon; two brothers and their wives, Larry and Linda Reed, Bethany, and Donald Ray and Anne Reed, Rogers, Ark.; nine grand-children, twelve great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren. Mrs. Allen was preceded in death by her parents and a sister, Vicki Vincent. Burial will be in the South Burns Cemetery under direction of Stanley-Lee Funeral Home of Clinton.

Willard Couch services set
Funeral services for Willard Ottis Couch, age 60 of Corn, will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday at the Calvary Baptist Church in Corn with Pastor Bob Burkle and Brother Brian Blackburn officiating. Couch died Tuesday, Nov. 11, 2003, at Southwestern Memorial Hospital in Weatherford. He was born on April 4, 1943 in Cloud Chief, the son of O.T. and Viola (Harder) Couch. Growing up in the Cloud Chief and Corn area, he graduated from Corn High School in 1961 and married his high school sweet-heart, Evalene “Ev” Kay Roberts on June 2, 1961 at the Calvary Baptist Church. He enjoyed golfing, coyote hunting and sports. He was an avid supporter of the 4-H, FFA and booster club programs at the Washita Heights Schools and was a proud class parent of the Class of 1983. Preceding him in death were his wife and his parents. Interment will be in the Corn Mennonite Brethren Cemetery under the direction of the Kiesau-Marler Funeral Home in Clinton. Survivors include a daughter, Renee Zeller and her husband, Danny, of Lawton; brothers, Bill Couch and his wife, Pam, and J.B. Couch and his wife, Mary Ann, all of Corn; a brother-in-law, Alton Roberts and his wife, Liz, of Cleveland; a sisters-in-law, Janice Maynard and her husband, Earl, of Arco, Idaho, Jan Roberts Britton of Arapaho; grandsons, Rodney, Riley and Rocky Zeller; special friends Jeff and Amy Brown; and a host of nieces and nephews. Alvina Cook services set
Memorial services for Alvina Cook, age 86 and a longtime Clinton resident, will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday in the Trinity Lutheran Church with Rev. David Darling officiating. Cook died early Wednesday, Nov. 5, 2003, at her Clinton home. She was born on Feb. 24, 1917 in Washita County, the daughter of Robert Albert and Adella (Nunweiler) Mueller. Reared on a farm south of Clinton in Washita County, after her high school graduation she went to work for the Western Oklahoma Tuberculosis Sanitarium as a nurse. In 1940 she married Clyde F. Cook, and they moved to Louisiana where Clyde was stationed in the military. They moved back to Clinton, and Alvina worked for International Harvester and Charles Lasley Insurance. In her spare time she enjoyed dancing, gardening and playing cards. She was an active member of the Epsilon Sigma Alpha sorority and her church. Preceding her in death were her parents and husband. Arrangements are under the direction of the Stanley-Lee Funeral Home in Clinton. Survivors include two sons, Clyde, Jr. and his wife, Jody, of Harrah, Bob of Bartlesville; two grandsons, Benjamin and Samuel; and a brother, Ferd Mueller and his wife, Leota, of Clinton.

VanZandt baby rites Thursday
Graveside services for Faith VanZandt, infant daughter of Faron and Kelly (Marbry) VanZandt, will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday in the Willow Cemetery one mile north of Willow under the direction of the Stanley-Lee Funeral Home in Clinton. Faith was stillborn on Saturday, Nov. 1, 2003, at Integris Clinton Regional Hospital. Survivors include her parents, Faron and Kelly VanZandt of Willow; three brothers, T.J. Butler, Mickey Butler and Cole VanZandt, all of the home; her paternal grandparents, Daniel VanZandt of Ashdown, Ark., Sharon Klinekoe of Childress, Texas; a maternal great grandmother, Hilda Brewer of Memphis, Tenn.; and two aunts, Kristy Marbry of Bartlett, Tenn. and Sharidan Johnson of Elk City.

Ben Levine rites held
Graveside services for former Clinton businessman Ben Levine, age 97, were held this afternoon at the Emanuel Hebrew Cemetery in Oklahoma City. Levine died Friday morning, Nov. 7, 2003. He was born on Oct. 21, 1907 in Marietta, the youngest of six children. He married Paralee Dunlap in 1939, and she preceded him in death in 1975. Levine was an alumnus of Wellston High School and had attended the Ponca City Business College. He served as a Seabee in the Aleutian Islands of Alaska in World War II. After his discharge from the military in 1945, Levine returned to Clinton and the Rambo’s business that became B&L Mens-wear a short time later. The clothing store sold to David Guthrie about 1950. After that, he went on the road for two years representing the Western Hat Company of St. Joseph, Mo. He eventually opened Ben’s Surplus in the 300 block of East Frisco which he operated until he had to retire due to macular degeneration of his eyes in the 1960’s. Levine was a Mason and a member of the American Legion. Survivors include a niece, Blanche Blum Kopp of Enid; a nephew, Maurice Donchin and his wife, Margaret, of Dallas, Texas; a sister-in-law, Ivadale Borror of Thomas; great nephews, Phil Kopp and his wife, Janelle, of Frisco, Colo., Steve Donchin and his wife, Susan, and their children, Benjamin and Samantha, and David Donchin, all of Edmond; a great niece, Louise Septoff Fealk and her husband, Marshall, and their children, Francie, Marcie and Mark, all of Tucson, Ariz.

Jonnie Johnson funeral Tuesday
Funeral services for former area school teacher and Butler native Jonnie Fay Johnson, age 67 of Purcell, will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Wadley’s Funeral Chapel in Purcell. Johnson died Saturday, Nov. 8, 2003, at the Purcell Hospital. She was born on May 17, 1936 at Butler, the daughter of Herman and Mabel Northrup Lowe. Having lived for the past 16 years at Purcell, she moved there from Pernell and was reared and attended school at Butler and Canton. On Aug. 5, 1955, she married Eugene Johnson at Wellington, Texas. She graduated from Southwestern Oklahoma State University in 1970. She taught kindergarten and math at Lexington, Cordell, Wayne and Pernell Schools. She retired in 1987 due to her health. Johnson was a member of the Oklahoma Education Association and was of the Methodist faith. She was preceded in death by her parents. Survivors include her husband, Eugene “Red” of the home; a son, Eddie, and his wife, Rhonda, of Bedford, Texas; a daughter, Tammie Johnson of Purcell; brothers, Kenneth Lowe and his wife, Lois, of Oklahoma City, Ruell Lowe and his wife, Jan, of Ponca City; sisters, Peggy Metheny of Clinton, Margaret Weafer and her husband, Gene, of McAllen, Texas; and a granddaughter, Stephanie Johnson.

Ron Hawks funeral held
Funeral services for Ron Lakota Hawks, age 60 of El Reno, were held this afternoon at the chapel of the Lockstone Funeral Home in Thomas with Rev. Max Malone officiating. A wake was held at the funeral home Thursday night. Hawks died Wednesday, Oct. 29, 2003, at Greeley, Colo. He was born on July 5, 1943 at Clinton Indian Hospital, the son of Richard and Anna Elda (Hawks) Thunderbull, Sr. with the birth name Richard Owen Thunderbull. Hawks attended the Thomas schools before transferring to Custer City where he graduated. He served in the military reserves during his high school years and after graduation entered the U.S. Army where he was a Vietnam veteran. Upon his release from the service, he traveled throughout the northern states as well as Germany, Turkey, Switzerland and Italy. In Germany he met his surviving spouse, Ingrid Kleeman. He was a silversmith by trade and also was known for his ability to perform on the flute. He also made beaded gourds and fans. Hawks participated in the Sundance Ceremony and accepted the Lakota ways and attended their ceremonies faithfully. He was an original member of the Star Hawk Society Gourd Clan, dancing with Charles and Stanley Sleeper when the organization first began. Burial was in the Mound Valley Cemetery at Thomas. Survivors include his wife, Ingrid, of Rechberghauser, Germany; an adopted daughter, Olga Valonas of Colorado; three sisters, Yvonne Pemberton of Geary, Neosho Karen Miles and her husband, Melvin, of El Reno, Kay Wignon Wilborn of Oklahoma City; two brothers, Levi Charles Thunderbull and his wife, Rose, and Eustace Amos Thunderbull and his wife, Jackie, all of El Reno; and numerous grandchildren, great grand-children, nieces and nephews. Preceding him in death, along with his parents, were two brothers, Richard and Arthur; and three sisters, Amy Thunderbull, Thamur Thunderbull Mitchell and Louese Ann PrairieChief Whiteshirt.

Frieda Littke services set
Funeral services for Frieda Josephine Littke, age 86 of Bessie, will be held at 2:30 p.m. Sunday at the Peace Lutheran Church in Bessie with Rev. David Darling and pastor Marvin Kehl officiating. Littke died Wednesday, Nov. 5, 2003, at the United Methodist Health Care Center in Clinton. She was born on Sept. 6, 1917 in Bessie, the daughter of Henry and Josephine (Behnke) Intemann. She grew up in Bessie and graduated from Bessie High School, marrying Adolph Littke on Oct. 1, 1942 at the Peace Lutheran Church in Bessie. She was an active member of the church where she was baptized and confirmed, along with her children and grandchildren. Littke also was a member of the Tabitha Circle and enjoyed quilting, crocheting and especially cooking, making angel food cakes for many occasions. Preceding her in death, along with her husband, Adolph, in 2001, were a son, A.J. Littke; a granddaughter, Kristen Sawyer; and two brothers, Rein Intemann and Albert Intemann. Interment will be in the Peace Lutheran Cemetery at Bessie under the direction of the Kiesau-Marler Funeral Home in Clinton. Survivors include daughters, Arloene Dick and her husband, Gilbert, of Clinton, Rayma Balzer and her husband, Jim, of Cordell, Nancy Sheppard and her husband, Kermet, of Clinton; a daughter, Patricia Littke of Besise; grandchildren, Duane Dick, Alan Dick, Darren Balzer, Susan Balzer, Dax Sawyer, Melissa Littke; and 10 great grandchildren.

McGoffin rites Monday
Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 a.m. Monday at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Clinton for Frank McGoffin, age 79 of Arapaho. Wake and rosary service are planned for 7 p.m. Sunday at the Kiesau Memorial Chapel in the Kiesau-Memorial Funeral Home. McGoffin died Wednesday, Nov. 5, 2003, at Integris Clinton Regional Hospital. He was born on Sept. 7, 1924 at Weatherford, the son of Frank and Florence (Case) McGoffin. He grew up in Clinton, and his first job was delivering the newspaper. A veteran of World War II, he served in the U.S. Navy. McGoffin married Genevieve Klein on Jan. 28, 1950 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church. He worked for SBC Telephone, Helium Plant in Otis, Kans. and later transferred to Shiprock, N.M. An opening became available at the Clinton-Sherman Air Force Base, and he was hired and served until his retirement in 1970. He worked for Jett Distributing and Marcy Distributing. McGoffin also worked for Collins and Aikman, retiring in 1989. He was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus and American Legion. He enjoyed farming and watching his grandchildren play sports. He also liked to square dance. Preceding him in death, along with his wife, Genevieve, and his parents, were his stepfather, Harry Sullivan; a son, Joseph McGoffin; and a daughter, Jennifer McGoffin. Interment will be in the Anthon Cemetery northwest of Arapaho. Bodenstein services set
Funeral services for LaVerne Bodenstein, age 85 of Hobart, will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at the First Baptist Church in Hobart with Rev. Lawrence Gresham officiating. Bodenstein died Wednesday at the Elkview General Hospital in Hobart. She was born on June 3, 1918 in Fanshaw, the daughter of William and Roxie (Crabtree) Thomas. Reared in Apache, she had lived in Hobart since 1959, moving there from Clinton. She married Albert Bodenstein on Aug. 31, 1938 in Stroud, and he preceded her in death in 1974. Having worked at Stanley Furniture, Safeway and J.C. Penney’s for many years, she was a member of the First Baptist Church in Hobart. Preceding her in death were her parents and husband along with four brothers; a sister; and a son-in-law, Danny Bailey. Interment will be in the Fairview Cemetery at Apache under the direction of the Hackney-Gish Funeral Home in Hobart. Survivors include a son, Ron Bodenstein and his wife, Barbara, of Springdale, Ark.; a daughter, Beverly Bailey of Hobart; five grandchildren; 15 great grandchildren; a sister, Jessie Martin of Apache; and a brother, Pete Thomas of Tulsa.

Edna Johnson funeral Sunday
Funeral services for Edna G. Johnson, age 87 and a longtime Putnam resident, will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday in the First Christian Church at Putnam with Bob Johnson officiating. Edna died late Wednesday, Nov. 5, 2003, at Integris Baptist Health Center in Oklahoma City. She was born on Feb. 14, 1916 at Weatherford, the daughter of Frank and Marie (Burgman) Penner. Johnson grew up in Weatherford and graduated from high school there. She worked at the Mark Restaurant in Weatherford for a number of years. In 1965 she married Kenneth Johnson in Vernon, Texas, and they made their home on a farm near Putnam. She reared foster children from 1970 until 1989 and was well known for her cooking. She was a member of the Baptist Church and the Rebekah Lodge. Preceding her in death, along with her parents, were a daughter, Maurine Harry; a sister, Lorene Smith; and a brother, Irvin Penner. Burial will conclude in the Mound Valley Cemetery at Thomas under the direction of the Stanley-Lee Funeral Home in Clinton. The family will greet guests from 7 to 9 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home. Survivors include her husband, Kenneth, of the home; two sons, Robert Gibbins of Sentinel, Gilbert Johnson of the home; a sister, Leona Hayes of Colorado Springs, Colo.; two grandchildren, Steve Yarbrough of Gailsburg, Ill., Andrea Gibbons of Dallas, Texas; and a great grandson, Tyler Yarbrough. The family suggests that those who desire may make memorial contributions in Johnson’s honor to the Western Oklahoma Hospice.

Mable Fey funeral set
Funeral services for Ma-ble L. Fey, age 79 of Guthrie and mother of Dr. Vic Fey of Clinton, will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the Davis Funeral Home in Guthrie with Pastor Ann Smallwood assisted by Rev. Art Bostic officiating. Fey died Wednesday, Nov. 5, 2003, at the Logan Hospital and Medical Center in Guthrie. She was born on Feb. 1, 1924 in Guthrie, the daughter of Roy and Emma (Tappe) Burns. Fey returned to Guthrie in 1964 and had continued to live there. She was a retired sales clerk for Ben Franklin Stores and was an active member of the Guthrie West Warner Church of God. She married Paul M. Fey on June 29, 1946 in Long Beach, Calif. He preceded her in death on May 21, 1998. Her parents also preceded her in death. Burial will be in the Memory Gardens Memorial Park at Guthrie. Friends may call from 8:30 a.m. to 8 p.m. Friday and from 9 to 9:30 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home. Survivors include a son, Dr. Vic Fey and his wife, Donita, of Clinton; a sister, Dorothy Merkle and her husband, Richard, of Colorado Springs, Colo.; two granddaughters, Sandy Ford and her husband, Matt, of Clinton, Holley Fey of Tulsa; and a great grandson, Hunter Ford of Clinton.

Frank Ward's rites Monday
Funeral services for Frank T. Ward, age 70 of Clinton, will be held at 2 p.m. Monday at the Pentecostal Church of God at 18th and Hayes with Rev. David Messer and Rev. Ramus Hicks officiating. Ward died early Saturday, Nov. 1, 2003, at Integris Clinton Regional Hospital. He was born on Sept. 30, 1933 in Montevideo, Minn., the son of Elmer and Julie (Johnson) Ward. Reared in Minnesota, he graduated from Montevideo High School in 1951 and enlisted in the U.S. Army for a short time. He later moved to Oklahoma City in 1963 where he worked on the H.E. Bailey Turnpike before later moving to Perryton, Texas to work in the oilfields. He and Glathea Allen owned and managed motels across the Southwest, marrying on May 10, 2003 in Clinton. They have made their permanent residence in Clinton. He was a member of the Pentecostal Church of God. Preceding him in death were a sister, Jean; a brother, Bruce; and his parents. Burial will conclude in the Clinton Cemetery under the direction of the Stanley-Lee Funeral Home of Clinton. Survivors include his wife, Glathea, of the home; two stepdaughters, Lisa Dowden of Sperry, Twila Martin of Tulsa; two stepsons, Ricky Allen of Perryton, Texas, Royce Allen of Wylie, Texas; two sisters, Peggy and Joan and two brothers, Elmer, Jr. and Charles, all of Minnesota.

Funeral services for Harold “Dink” Driscoll, age 78 and a longtime Clinton resident, will be held at 2 p.m. Monday in Clinton’s First Church of God with Rev. Roy Dobbs officiating. Driscoll died early Thursday, Oct. 30, 2003, at Integris Clinton Regional Hospital. Burial will be in the Rhea Cemetery near Leedey under the direction of the Stanley-Lee Funeral Home in Clinton. The funeral home plans to release a full obituary for Sunday’s edition of the Clinton Daily News.

Ethel Bird's services set
Funeral services for Ethel Carr Bird, age 100 of Clinton, will be held at 2:30 p.m. Saturday in the Kiesau Memorial Chapel of the Kiesau-Marler Fu-neral Home in Clinton with Dois Nix and Pat Peters officiating. Bird died Wednesday, Oct. 29, 2003, at the Grace Living Center in Clinton. She was born on June 10, 1903 at Gaines-ville, Texas, the 13th child of James K. Polk and Lilia Swan (Miller) Shumate. She was 10 when the family moved by covered wagon to Roger Mills County in Oklahoma. On the trip, Indians asked for food at the new homestead using sign language. She left her home at the age of 19 because, ac-cording to her daughter, the elder Shumates op-posed their daughter bob-bing her hair. She also shortened her skirts and wore the long beads of the day in a Roaring ’20’s flapper style. Bird took the position of nanny to the children of a Gracemont banker. In 1926 she married Walter Carr, and the couple lived near Sickles, rearing five children. In 1950, the family moved to Hinton where she was active in the Methodist Church and civic clubs. Mr. Carr died in 1972. She was a member of the Hinton Ladies Sewing Club and AARP. She also played in the Red Hat band, entertaining at nurs-ing home and community activities. She also volun-teered in the Meals on Wheels program and en-joyed quilting, crocheting, bird watching and flower gardening. In 1978 she married William “Bill” Bird, mov-ing to Cordell and later to Clinton. He died in 1995 She was a member of the Church of Christ and lived independently in her home until 1999, later moving to the Grace Living Center. Interment will be in the Hinton Cemetery under the direction of the Kiesau-Marler Funeral Home of Clinton. Survivors include her daughters, Jean Carr of Sulphur, Betty Terry of Clinton, Bobbie Smith and her husband, Harold, of Clinton, Gloria J. Nix and her husband, Dois, of In-dependence, Kans.; 22 grandchildren; 38 great grandchildren; 21 great-great grandchildren.

George Coulson services Friday
Funeral services for George W. Coulson, age 86 of Clinton, will be held at 2 p.m. Friday in the First United Methodist Church in Clinton with Randy Meacham and Sandy Shepherd officiating. Coulson died Wednesday, Oct. 29, 2003, at Mercy Hospital in Oklahoma City. He was born on April 30, 1917 at Elm, the son of William E. and Mary Jane (Shephard) Coulson. He grew up in the Arapaho area, graduating from Arapaho High School at the age of 16. Coulson went on to attend Hill’s Business College and Southwestern Oklahoma State University in Weatherford. He married Vera Lorrene Parr on April 19, 1937 in Clinton. Serving as a mail carrier for a few years, he then began his farming career. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church and had been active on many boards. Coulson was named “Outstanding Cooperator of the Year” in 1993 for his accomplishments in the conservation of soil, water and resources. Interment will be in the Arapaho Cemetery under the direction of the Kiesau-Marler Funeral Home in Clinton. Survivors include his sons, Wade Coulson of Clinton, Larry William Coulson and his wife, Donna, of Estes Park, Colo.; a sister, Betty Jo Taylor and her husband, Nat, of Stillwater; grand-children, Kelly Stephens, Lorry Curtis, Dulcy Mock, Holly Myers, Garth Coulson, Cole Coulson; 12 great grandchildren; and special friends Mark Pruitt, Ken Hamar, Randy Meacham, Jerry Waltrip and Bob Lorenz. Preceding him in death were his wife, Vera Lor-rene Parr Coulson; a son, George Curtis Coulson; and a sister, Florence Ruth Lee. The family suggests that those who desire may make memorial contributions in Coulson’s honor to the First United Methodist Church or to the Arapaho Community Center.

Theissen rites to be Monday
Funeral services for Omega E. Thiessen, age 78 of Clinton, will be held at 2 p.m. Monday in the First Christian Church with Doyle Kinney officiating. Thiessen died at her home early Friday, Oct. 24, 2003, following a lengthy illness. She was born on March 22, 1925 in Butler, the daughter of John T. and Effie (Gragg) Williams. Reared in the Putnam area, she graduated from high school in 1942 and then moved to Clinton where she worked for Southwestern Bell Telephone and Vic’s Café. She met and married John Z. Thiessen on Dec. 6, 1950 in Tacoma, Wash. He was in the military during World War II. After his discharge, they moved back to Clinton and she returned to her Bell job. She also worked for J.C. Penney and began a 30-year career with United Supermarket in 1960, retiring in 1990. Preceding her in death were her husband on Aug. 11, 1980; her parents; six brothers, Don “Dude” Williams, Kenneth Williams, Kirby Williams, Dan Williams, Vernon Williams, Herman Williams; and a sister, Ruth Hamilton. She loved to read newspapers and watch television to keep up on current events as well as happenings in her community, state and country. Burial will conclude in the Clinton Cemetery under the direction of the Stanley-Lee Funeral Home in Clinton. Survivors include four daughters, Poincette Tate of Walkup, N.M., Aleta Wells and her husband, Clyde “J.R.,” of Anadarko, Jo Lynn Mohammad and her husband, Dr. A.A., Johnetta Waldrop and her husband, Pat, all of Clinton; a son, George Thiessen of Clinton; eight grandchildren, Shereen Mohammad, Jamila Mohammad, Shayla Mohammad, Barry Waldrop, Jeremy Waldrop, Todd Wells, Jeremy Wells, Joni Charles; and three great grandchildren. The family has suggested that those who desire may make memorial contributions in Omega Thiessen’s honor to the American Heart Association.

Rites Sunday for Harrelson
Funeral services for Laoma Harrelson, age 92 of Clinton, will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday at the Kiesau Memorial Chapel of the Kiesau-Marler Funeral Home in Clinton with Doyle Kinney and Cameron Williams officiating. Harrelson died Thursday, Oct. 23, 2003, at the United Methodist Health Care Center in Clinton. She was born on June 10, 1911 in Oklahoma, the daughter of Jerry L. and Alma (Anderson) Huey. Growing up around Bessie, she attended the Concord School and married Vernie Harrelson in June of 1929. They lived on a farm southwest of Clinton until 1955 when they moved into town. They owned a self-serve laundry from 1953 to 1975. She was a member of the Custer Avenue Baptist Church in Clinton and enjoyed playing cards and dominoes with her friends. Harrelson also enjoyed cooking. Preceding her in death were her husband, Vernie Harrelson in May of 1979; a daughter, Letha Sawatzky in 1991; a grandson, Wayne Digby; a granddaughter, Cathy Harrelson; a great-great grandson, Skyler Marshall; a brother, Dike Huey; sisters, Ollie Lovelace, Gladys Harrelson, Ruby Douglas, Mable Harrelson and Jewell Meiers. Survivors include her sons, Gilbert Harrelson and his wife, Valjean, of Weatherford, Calvin Harrelson and his wife, Bobbie, of Clinton, Herman Harrelson and his wife, Faye, of Clinton, Ronnie Harrelson and his wife, Frances, of Clinton; daughters, Edna Digby and her husband, Travis, of Weatherford, Geneva Digby and her husband, Robert, of Amarillo, Texas; brothers, Jessie Huey and his wife, Lillie, of Altus, Clifton Huey and his wife, Mildred, of Enid; her twin sister, Naomi Gilbreath of Clinton and another sister, Ida Mangus of Enid; 19 grandchildren; 35 great grandchildren; and three great-great grandchildren.

Mary Brown rites slated
Graveside services for Mary Brown, age 75 of Anchorage, Alaska, will be held at 2 p.m. Monday at the Clinton Cemetery. Brown died Monday, Oct. 13, 2003, at her home. She was born on Aug. 21, 1928 in Clinton, the last child born to John and Viola May Newman. After a brief residence in California in 1976 she moved to Phoenix, Ariz. where she had lived until June 1, 2001 when she moved to Anchorage to be close to her daughter. She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Anchorage. More than 100 family members and friends attended her 75th birthday reception. Arrangements are under the direction of the Kiesau-Marler Funeral Home in Clinton. Survivors include her daughter, Anna Allen of Anchorage, Alaska; sons, John Kimball of Wichita, Kans., Edward Kimball of Dayton, Ohio, William “Bill” Kimball of Dallas, Texas, David Kimball of Flemington, N.J.; six granddaughters; two grandsons; five great granddaughters; six great grandsons.
