Lowber funeral held Saturday
Funeral services for E. Frank Lowber, age 69, Cordell resident, were held Saturday afternoon at the United Methodist Church in Cordell with Jon Wilson officiating. Lowber died at his home on Wednesday, Nov. 28, 2001. He was born on Oct. 16, 1932 at Cordell, the son of William Oliver and Maggie Collier Lowber. After graduating from Cordell High School in 1950, he joined the Army in 1953 and served for two years before returning to Cordell where he farmed until his death. He was a member of the United Methodist Church and was married to Terra Holt on June 14, 1965 at Vernon, Texas. Preceding him in death were his father, Bill Lowber; and a sister, Billoye DeLong. Burial was in the Lawnview Cemetery at Cordell. Survivors include his wife, Terra Lowber of Cordell; daughters, Leah Jones and her husband, Nick, of Cordell, Anna Moncada and her husband, Alex, of El Reno; a son, Kelly Dixon of Cordell; grandsons, Landon and Levi Jones of Cordell, Jonathan and Teague Moncada of El Reno; his mother, Maggie Lowber of Cordell; two sisters, Byrdena Cook and her husband, Eldon, of Gotebo, Lazetta Penner and her husband, Lawrence; a brother, Royce Lowber and his wife, Della, of Cordell; a brother-in-law, Ed DeLong of Clinton.

Jean Felton funeral set
Funeral services for Mrs. Jean Felton, age 92, Hydro resident, will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at the First United Methodist Church in Hydro. Mrs. Felton died Thursday morning, Nov. 29, 2001, at the Maplewood Manor in Hydro. Funeral arrangements are being handled out of Hinton. She was the mother of Mrs. George (Pat) Meacham of Hydro.

Lou Norvell funeral held
Mrs. Louella “Lou” Norvell, age 86, Yukon resident, died recently. She had been residing at the Ranchwood Nursing Center in Yukon. She was born in the Arcadia-Friendship area west of Pocasset, the daughter of Samuel Winfield and Daisy Ethelyn (Hill) Dunlap. She attended school at Arcadia, a rural school near Pocasset, and lived on the family farm until she met Robert Warren “Bob” Norvell of Pocasset. They were married in El Reno and in 1942 they settled on a farm west of Amber. He operated a dairy and she was a homemaker and farm helper. Mrs. Norvell always had a large garden and enjoyed fishing. In 1960, her husband retired from the dairy, and they moved to a farm north of Amber. He died on Dec. 26, 1977. After her husband died at age 62, Mrs. Norvell bought a kiln and started making ceramics which gradually grew from a hobby into a business. She went to craft shows and had customers all over the state. After she was baptized in a farm pond in 1946 she became a member of the First Baptist Church in Amber. She also was a member of the senior citizens group at Amber, and she enjoyed playing dominoes. She continued to live on the farm until she moved to Oklahoma City to live with her daughter, Frankie. Survivors include a son, R.W. “Dub” Norvell and his wife, Nancy, of Amber; two daughters, Carolyn S. Roulet and her husband, Darrell, of Custer City, Frankie L. Still and her husband, Dawain of Oklahoma City; six grandsons; two granddaughters; 10 great grandchildren; two step great grandchildren; two sisters, Vesta Willis of Elk City, Alice Hiskett of Oklahoma City; and several nieces and nephews. Preceding her in death, along with her parents and husband, were six sisters, three brothers, one grandson and a grand daughter-in-law.

Janice London funeral Friday
Funeral services for Mrs. Janice Lee London, age 54, Hydro resident, will be held at 2 p.m. Friday at the First United Methodist Church in Hydro with Rev. Roger Parker officiating. Mrs. London died suddenly on Monday, Nov. 26, 2001, at the Southwestern Memorial Hospital in Weatherford. She was born on April 10, 1947 at Hinton, the daughter of Earl and Iona (Quigley) Shanklin. Reared and schooled at Hinton, she graduated there in 1965 before marrying Joe London on Sept. 1, 1966. The couple made their home in Weatherford. After college, they moved to Clinton where she taught in the school system. In 1975 they moved east of Hydro to the family farm. Mrs. London received her Masters in Education from Southwestern State and became a licensed practicing counselor. At the time of her death she was working for Youth and Family Services of El Reno-Watonga. She enjoyed yard work, especially with her flowers, and working with teenagers. Burial will follow in the Bethel Cemetery east of Hydro under the direction of the Lockstone Funeral Home of Weatherford. Survivors include her husband, Joe, of the home in Hydro; two daughters, Ginger London of Oklahoma City, Robin London of Weatherford; her mother, Iona Shanklin of Hydro; and two brothers, Don Earl Shanklin and his wife, Glenda, of Calumet, Jack Shanklin and his wife, Pam, of Pearsall, Texas. The family suggests that those who desire may make memorial contributions to Youth and Family Services, 2404 Sunset Dr., El Reno, OK 73036-1207.

Raymond Dew rites Thursday
Funeral services for Raymond Eugene Dew, age 64, Guthrie resident, will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday at the Church of Christ at Popular and Warner in Guthrie with Rob McElroy, church minister, officiating. Willard Cox, minister of the Church of Christ at Cape Fair, Mo. will give the eulogy. Dew died Monday, Nov. 26, 2001, at Mercy Hospital in Oklahoma City. He was born on March 28, 1937 at Bessie, the son of Obie Fritz and Ethel Estelle Harrelson Dew. Growing up in Western Oklahoma, he graduated from Port High School in 1954. He was married to Nancy Roberta McWhirter on March 17, 1961 at the Methodist Church in Sentinel. Dew was baptized at the 12th and Drexel Church of Christ in Oklahoma City. The Dews lived in Sentinel for 11 years and owned a convenience store in Cordell. They moved to Mustang where they helped establish the Lakehoma Church of Christ. He also served as a deacon of the congregation. In 1983 they moved to Guthrie where they had resided for the past 18 years. Dew worked in various capacities for the Anderson News for 25 years before semi-retiring in 1999. He was preceded in death by his parents. Interment at Seward Cemetery will follow the services under the direction of the Abernathy Funeral Home of Crescent. Survivors include his wife, Nancy Dew; five children, James Dew and his wife, Barbie, of Guthrie, Kenneth Dew and his wife, Sherry, of Oklahoma City, Roberta Johnson and her husband, Jeff, of Crescent, Robert Dew and his wife, Melissa, of Guthrie, Christina Lentz and her husband, Levi, of Guthrie; two brothers, Albert Dew of Austin, Texas, Obie Dew of Wichita Falls, Texas; a sister, Deloris Waugh of Wichita Falls, Texas; seven grandchildren, Kenton and Sydney Dew, Zackery, Samantha and Jacob Johnson, Benjamin and Hannah Lentz; seven stepgrandchildren, Sue Davison, Kerri Henning, Robbie French, Kirby Darbe, Lillie Simpson, Lorren and Ajia White; and seven step great grandchildren.

Atchley rites slated Friday
Graveside services for Jimmie W. Atchley, age 82, Altus resident, will be held at 2 p.m. Friday at the Parkersburg Cemetery west of Clinton with Bill Osborne officiating. Atchley died Sunday, Nov. 25, 2001, at the Jackson County Memorial Hospital in Altus. he was born on April 30, 1919 at Elgin, the son of True Ernest and Mary Clady (Bird) Atchley. He attended school in Elgin and was married to Ethel Irene Miller on June 13, 1940 at Anadarko. Atchley began work in the produce department of the Safeway store in Clinton before working for the Clinton Cotton Oil Mill for several years, later transferring to Altus where he retired after more than 20 years in the cotton processing industry. He was a member of the Emmanual Baptist Church in Altus, the AARP and the Farm Bureau. In retirement he enjoyed yard work, working on his home, playing dominoes and dancing. Preceding him in death were his parents; his wife in 1997; a son, Warren Ray Atchley; two brothers, Avery Atchley, Billy Ray Atchley; and two sisters, Johnnie and Mildred. Arrangements are under the direction of the Kincannon Funeral Home in Altus where the Atchley family will receive friends and visitors from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday. Survivors include two daughters and sons-in-law, Starla Koehler of Altus, Joyce Jones and her husband, John, of Suisun City, Calif., Brian Koehler of Blair; two sons and daughters-in-law, David Atchley and Roberta of Clinton, Rodney Atchley and Sally of Galveston, Texas, Sue Atchley of Yukon; two sisters, Lucille Stiles of Alamogordo, N.M., Elizabeth Large of Lawton, Byron Atchley of Chickasha, Robert Allen Atchley of Columbus, Ohio; eight grandchildren; six great grandchildren; and a special friend, Lucille Harris.

Funeral services for Amel Buller, Jr., Elk City resident, are set for 10 a.m. Friday at the Whinery-Savage Funeral Service chapel in Elk City. Buller died Monday, Nov. 26, 2001, at his home in Elk City. The funeral service planst to release a full obituary later.

Yelloweagle services set
Funeral services for Nelson Yelloweagle, age 55, Clinton resident, will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday in the Free Will Baptist Church with Rev. Charles Murphy, church minister, officiating. A wake service will be held from 7 to 10 p.m. this evening at the church. Yelloweagle died Sunday, Nov. 25, 2001, at Integris Baptist Hospital in Oklahoma City. He was born on Aug. 31, 1946 in Canton, the son of Andrew and Grace (Surveyor) Yelloweagle, Sr. A 1964 graduate of Longdale High School, he had worked in the oil field and enjoyed fishing, camping and taking part in powwows. Preceding him in death were his parents; a sister, Etheleen Perrin; and a brother, Andrew Yelloweagle. Burial will be in the West Cantonment Cemetery near Canton under the direction of the Stanley-Lee Funeral Home of Clinton. Survivors include three daughters, Yoli Schapansky and her husband, Tony, of Clinton, April Yelloweagle of Shawnee, Leslie Sittingbull of Missouri; a son, Tommy Yelloweagle and his wife, Heather, of Woodward; a sister, Carolyn Plummer of Clinton; three brothers, George Plummer of Woodward, Allen Plummer of Longdale, Elia Yelloweagle of Geary; and seven grandchildren.

Spottedwolf rites slated
Funeral services for Mrs. Sandra M. Spottedwolf, age 58, Bessie and Clinton area resident, will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday in the First Mennonite Church at 19th and Opal in Clinton with Rev. Lawrence Hart officiating. Sandra (Montathachi) Spottedwolf died Saturday, Nov. 24, 2001, at John F. Kennedy Memorial Hospital in Indio, Calif. after collapsing while dancing at a traditional Indian powwow in California. She was born on Aug. 22, 1943 in Clinton, the daughter of Edgar and Anola (Black Wolf) Monetathchi. Reared in Clinton by her grandfather, Joshua Heap-of-Birds Blackwolf, she attended the Clinton schools before graduating in 1961 from the Fort Sill Indian School. That same year she was married to Eddie Henry and was later married to Patrick Spottedwolf in 1967 at Dallas, Texas. Mrs. Spottedwolf had worked in Oklahoma City and Clinton hospitals for 30 years as a licensed practical nurse before retiring in 1997 for health reasons. She had been the princess of powwows in Clinton, Ponca City and Pawnee and had been a champion buckskin dress dancer for many years. She also had been the champion northern traditional dancer for the past eight years. Preceding her in death were her grandparents; her mother; two brothers, Waddy and Rollo Waters; and a daughter, Jolene Jennie. Burial will be in the Clinton Indian Cemetery under the direction of the Stanley-Lee Funeral Home in Clinton. Survivors include her husband, Patrick, of the Bessie home; a daughter, Patrice, age 4; sons, Eddie, Loronzo, Shawn, Anthony; 18 grandchildren; a great grandchild; a brother, Harvey; and two sisters, Christine and Evelyn.

Rachel Schmidt funeral Monday
Funeral services for Mrs. Rachel (Quiring) Schmidt, age 89, Clinton resident, will be held at 10 a.m. Monday at the First Mennonite Church in Clinton with Rev. Dave Gerbrandt and Dan Day officiating. Mrs. Schmidt died Thursday afternoon, Nov. 22, 2001, at Integris Clinton Regional Hospital. She was born on March 10, 1912 in Washita County, the daughter of Henry E. and Elizabeth (Ratzlaff) Quiring. The family lived in Montana and Louisiana before settling in the Corn area when she was four. She attended a country grade school and graduated from Corn Bible Academy and Weatherford High School. Mrs. Schmidt graduated from Wheaton College in Illinois and Southwestern Oklahoma State University in Weatherford before receiving her Masters Degree from the University of Oklahoma. She taught grade school for 14 years in several Oklahoma schools and for 20 years in Visalia, Calif. before she retired in 1971. Her husband, Albert Schmidt, who she married on Aug. 28, 1967, preceded her in death last year. Also preceding her in death were her parents; a sister, Frieda Quiring; and a step-son, Marven Schmidt. Burial will conclude in the Bergthal Cemetery under the direction of the Stanley-Lee Funeral Home of Clinton. Survivors include her step-children, Milton and Ellen Schmidt of Tulsa; Eunice Schmidt of Pender Island, British Columbia, Canada; two sisters, Evalena Koogle of Sacramento, Calif., Blondeen Kolbo of Eagle Grove, Iowa; and a brother, Elmer Quiring of Clinton. Ernest Sawatzky funeral Saturday
Funeral services for Ernest George Sawatzky, age 95, Weatherford resident, will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday in the chapel of the Lockstone Funeral Home in Weatherford with Rev. Leonard Gillingham officiating. Sawatzky died Wednesday, Nov. 21, 2001, at Southwestern Memorial Hospital in Weatherford. He was born on Oct. 29, 1906 near Corn, the son of George and Anna (Quiring) Sawatzky. Reared in the Corn area, he attended a rural school He went on to marry Ida D. Schilberg, and they made their home near Bessie where Sawatzky farmed. In 1940 they moved to Clinton and then moved to Weatherford in 1965. He continued farming until past the age of 90. Burial will be in the Greenwood Cemetery at Weatherford. Survivors include three daughters, Barbara VanLeeuwen of Weatherford, Patt Qugino of Midwest City, Carol Sawatzky of Weatherford; a brother, Henry Sawatzky of Reedley, Calif.; a brother-in-law, Kirt Quiring of Reedley, Calif.; seven grandchildren; 13 great grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. Preceding him in death, in addition to his parents and wife, were a brother, Rufus Sawatzky; three sisters, Hulda, Helen and Elizabeth; a daughter, Ethyle; and a grandson, Bryan VanLeeuwen. 'Rolly' Blurton funeral Friday
Funeral services for Edward “Rolly” Blurton, age 80, Bethany resident, will be held at 1 p.m. Friday in the Cheyenne Church of Christ with Kendall Abner officiating. Blurton died Monday, Nov. 19, 2001, at St. Anthony Hospital in Oklahoma City. He was born on Aug. 12, 1921 at Crawford, the son of Jesse and Lula Blurton. Beginning school at “Little Crawford” he graduated in 1938 from Crawford High School. In December of 1941 he was married to Audrey Merritt. He worked most of his life in the LP gas business, having spent 24 years with Sales Equipment Company in Oklahoma City. Blurton was a member of the Church of Christ. He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Opal Hensley. Burial will be in the Silent Home Cemetery northwest of Roll under the direction of the Stanley-Lee Funeral Home of Clinton. Survivors include his wife, Audrey, of the home; a daughter, Judy Lyde of Oklahoma City; a son, Ronnie, and his wife, Dianne, of Austin, Texas; two grandsons, Greg Lyde of Wichita, Kan., Randy Blurton of Snow Mass, Colo. and his fiancé, Kari Russey of Stillwater; a granddaughter, Molly McDonald and her husband, Bobby Ray, of Oklahoma City; a great grandson, Grant Lyde; a brother, John Blurton of Perryton, Texas; and three sisters, Ruby Klein of Monroe City, Mo., Arlee Githens of Perryton, Texas, Gean Parnett of Phoenix, Ariz.

Betty Hodges services held
Mrs. Betty Duncum Hodges, former Clinton resident, was laid to rest in the Resthaven Memorial Gardens in Oklahoma City on Saturday, Nov. 17, it was learned today. Mrs. Hodges died Wednesday, Nov. 14, 2001, at Oklahoma City. She grew up in Clinton and attended the Clinton schools. The daughter of R.A. “Dick” and Alta Lloyd, her parents along with a brother, Gary Duncum Lloyd, preceded her in death. She was married in September of 1950 to Thomas F. Hodges who preceded her in death in 1983. Survivors include two daughters, Shirley Curry and her husband, Steve, Lisa Aleman and her husband, Marcus, all of Oklahoma City; a son, Gary Hodges of Oklahoma City; and four grandchildren.

Rudolph Gehrt funeral Friday
Funeral services for Rudolph “Rudie” A. Gehrt, age 86, Custer City, will be held at 10 a.m. Friday in the Memorial Chapel of the Kiesau-Marler Funeral Home in Clinton. Gehrt died Sunday, Nov. 18, 2001. He was born on Feb. 8, 1915 in Custer County near Custer City, the youngest son of Adolpho and Adele Gehrt. He worked for a service station in Custer City and was a World War II veteran, having served in the field artillery while being stationed in the Aleutian Islands. Following his discharge he was employed by the Custer City Farmers Cooperative for a number of years until his retirement. He also was a fine carpenter, doing repair, remodeling and construction work. Burial will be in the Masonic Cemetery at Custer City. Survivors include three nephews, Loren Gossman, Bill Gossman, Leland Bertram; and two nieces, Ruth Harms and Carol Simms. The family suggests that those who desire may make memorial contributions in Gehrt’s honor to the New Season Hospice, 1717 E. Main, Weatherford, OK 73096.

Jimmy Rouse services set
Funeral services for James Allen “Jimmy” Rouse, age 47, Clinton resident, will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday in the Pentecostal Indian Mission at 18th and Hayes with Rev. Richard Canoe officiating. Rouse died Saturday night, Nov. 17, 2001, at the Great Plains Regional Medical Center in Elk City following a lengthy illness. He was born on June 30, 1954 at Clinton, the son of Winston and Marie (Blindy) Rouse. Reared in Clinton, he graduated from Clinton High School and attended a course on printing at the Western Technology Center in Burns Flat. He had been disabled since birth and was a severe diabetic for the past 15 years. Rouse was a member of the Church of the Nazarene. He liked to play softball and watch football. Preceding him in death were his father, Winston; and a brother, Roger Rouse. Burial will be in the Clinton Indian Cemetery under the direction of the Stanley-Lee Funeral Home in Clinton. Survivors include his mother, Marie, of Clinton; two brothers, John Rouse of Amarillo, Texas and Winston Rouse Jr. of McAlester. A traditional all-night wake will be held this evening beginning at 7 p.m. at the Pentecostal Indian Mission Church.

Elsie Crane's rites Tuesday
Funeral services for Mrs. Elsie Crane, age 82, Clinton resident, will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the Custer Avenue Baptist Church with Rev. Jeff Scott officiating. Mrs. Crane died Saturday, Nov. 17, 2001, at the Presbyterian Hospital in Oklahoma City. She was born on May 10, 1919 north of Weatherford, the daughter of Bert and Hulda (Mosburg) Zweifel. She attended the Pleasant Hill Country School near Weatherford. On Dec. 24, 1939 she was married to Leon Crane, and they farmed with his family near Custer City. Later, they moved to California where her husband worked for Douglas Aircraft for 24 years. After retiring, they moved to Custer City in 1973, and he preceded her in death in 1994. Mrs. Crane made her home in Clinton for the past few years. She attended the Custer Avenue Baptist Church. In addition to enjoying playing the piano and organ (she played for several local restaurants and nursing homes), Mrs. Crane was an animal lover who took care of many stray dogs and cats. Burial will be in the Greenwood Cemetery in Weatherford under the direction of the Stanley-Lee Funeral Home in Clinton. Survivors include a sister, Emily Bell, of Oklahoma City; a brother, Everett Zweifel of Mission, Texas; and two nephews, Scott and Lee Zwiefel.

'Johnny' Gass dies
Funeral services for Jacob D. “Johnny” Gass, age 79, Cordell resident, were held Thursday morning at the First Baptist Church in Cordell with burial in the Lawnview Cemetery at Cordell. Gass died Monday, Nov. 12, 2001, at the Cordell Christian Home. He was born on Oct. 24, 1922 in Sussex, N.Y. He was a retired Oklahoma Department of Transportation employee and a 45-year member of the American Legion.

Clara Fullgrabe rites Saturday
Funeral services for Mrs. Clara Elisa Charlotte Ihde Fullgrabe, age 97, Cordell resident, will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday at the Peace Lutheran Church in Bessie with Pastor David Darling officiating. Mrs. Fullgrabe died Wednesday, Nov. 14, 2001 at the Cordell Christian Home. She was born on Oct. 10, 1904 near Granavillo, Iowa. In the spring of 1905 she moved with her parents and brother to a farm in southeastern Nebraska near Cook where she spent her childhood and grew to womanhood. She was confirmed in 1919 in the Helena Church by Johannes Lehman. On Oct. 1, 1932 she was married to Pastor Karl Fullgrabe. She and her husband served congregations in Helena, Cook and Wymore, Neb. as well as Bessie and Cushing in Oklahoma. They retired in 1968 at Cordell. Mrs. Fullgrabe enjoyed quilting and baking for others. She was a member of the Tabitha Circle at her church, the Peace Lutheran Church in Bessie. She also served as a volunteer with the American Red Cross. In addition to her parents and her husband, she was preceded in death by a brother, Alvin. Interment will be in the Peace Lutheran Cemetery at Bessie under the direction of the Kiesau-Marler Funeral Home of Clinton. Survivors include a son, Floyd, and his wife, Jean, of Clinton; a grandson, Thomas Karl; and a number of cousins.

Marie Green rites slated
Funeral services for Mrs. Marie Estelle (Scarberry) Green, age 87, former Clinton resident, will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday in the chapel of the Stanley-Lee Funeral Home with Pastor Roy Dobbs officiating. Mrs. Green died early Monday, Nov. 12, 2001, at Southwest Medical Center in Oklahoma City. She was born on April 28, 1914 at Cordell, the daughter of John and Jessie (Stark) Scarberry. She grew up in Cordell and attended school there. On Aug. 18, 1950 she was married to Claud Green, and they lived most of their married life in Clinton. For the past 7½ years she had lived in Oklahoma City. Preceding her in death were her parents; her husband; a daughter, Janice Hill; a son, Bobby Long; a brother, Carroll Scarberry; and two sisters, Mabel Ward and Lela Water. Burial will conclude in the Clinton Cemetery. Survivors include a sister, Francis West of Oklahoma City; a brother, Harold Scarbetty, and his wife, Ginny, of Jacksonville, Fla.; a daughter-in-law, Audrey Bolar and a son-in-law, Jerry “Jiggs” Hill of Clinton, Harold and Carroll Scarberry; seven grandchildren; 18 great grandchildren; seven great-great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Curtis Powers rites Saturday
A memorial service for Curtis David Powers, age 44, Prescott Valley, Ariz. resident, will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at the First Assembly of God in Thomas. Funeral services for Powers were held Saturday afternoon, Nov. 3, at Potter’s House Christian Center in Prescott with Pastor Wayman Mitchell officiating. Powers died Oct. 27, 2001, at the Yavapal Regional Medical Center in Prescott, Ariz. He was born on Jan. 27, 1957 in Thomas, the son of Curtis J. and Irene (Metzler) Powers. Having moved to Arizona seven years ago from Oklahoma, he was a parts salesman for Carquest Auto Parts. Survivors include his wife, Michaela and their two sons, Joshua and Jordan, all of Prescott Valley, Ariz.; his parents, Curtis and Irene Powers of Custer City; a brother, Timothy Powers, and his wife, Terri, and their daughters, Amanda and Carrie.

Robert Bowersock Jr. died on November 2
The death of Robert D. Bowersock Jr. on Nov. 2, 2001, has been learned here. His father was a long-time former businessman here. Services were held on the afternoon of Tuesday, Nov. 6,, at the First United Methodist Church in Wichita Falls, Texas with Dr. Robert Allen and Rev. John Dillard officiating. Burial was in the Crestview Memorial Park. Bowersock, known to his family and friends as “Dave,” was born on July 30, 1915 at Hobart. He graduated from high school at Clinton and attended Southwestern Oklahoma State University at Weatherford as well as the University of Oklahoma. Going on to serve four years in the U.S. Navy during World War II, he received a commission as a lieutenant. He was a naval aviator and a commander of PB4Ys. On Nov. 1, 1944 he was married to Virginia Herod in Oklahoma City. Upon his discharge from the Navy following the war he was employed by the General Adjustment Bureau (GAB), and he and his wife moved to Wichita Falls. He was later transferred to GAB offices in Childress and then Paris, both in Texas, serving each office as branch manager. In 1957 he returned to Wichita Falls as branch manager of the GAB office there until he resigned to establish an independent claims adjustment business. In 1978, Bowersock was licensed as a real estate appraiser, and he went on to concentrate on the appraisal of commercial and residential properties. He was associated with J.B Featherson Associates for 15 years, serving as the company’s president before his retirement in 1993. He served for a time as a member of the Appraisal Review Board for the Wichita Appraisal District and as a court-appointed commissioner to hear and recommend findings in real estate condemnation proceedings conducted by the City of Wichita Falls. Bowersock was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Wichita Falls. He was the first teacher of the church’s young couples By-the-Way Class which he taught for 11 years, continuing as a guest teacher even after his retirement. He and his wife served as youth counselors for the Methodist Youth Fellowship, and he was a member of the Administrative Council, Finance Committee, Pastor-Parish Relations Committee, Board of Trustees and also served as chairperson of the School for Little People. Active in the YMCA, he enjoyed racquetball and swimming and was a regular blood donor. He also served as a volunteer counselor for InterFaith Ministries. Survivors include his wife, Virginia; four children including his daughter, Barbara, and her husband, Charles Luna of Leesburg, Va. and their two children, Michael and David; a son, David, and his wife, Rita, of Bedford, Texas and their three children, Arien, Julia and Jenna; a son, Rick, and his wife, Sheralyn, of Wichita Falls and their two children, Kent and Rob; a son, Doug, and his wife, Tamara, of Wichita Falls and their four children, Kim Miller, Steed Landon and Collin; two sisters, Julia Dobbins of Ardmore, Barbara Darnell of Clinton; a sister-in-law, Jerry Herod of Wichita Falls; a brother-in-law, Jack Wheeler of Clinton; and nieces and nephews. The family suggests that those who desire may make memorial contributions in his honor to the American Cancer Society, the First United Methodist Church of Wichita Falls, Texas Helping Hand Fund, InterFaith Ministries or to the donor’s favorite charity.

Kirkendoll rites slated
Funeral services for Mrs. Marie Kirkendoll, age 79, Clinton resident, will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday in the Bethany Baptist Church with Rev. Billy Mucker officiating. Mrs. Kirkendoll died early Saturday morning, Nov. 10, 2001, at her Clinton home. She was born on April 11, 1922 in Bristow, the daughter of George and Grace (George) Miller. Reared in Bristow, she received her school there and was married to Cecil Kirkendoll there in 1939. They moved to Vinita and finally settled in Clinton in 1966. She cooked for a number of years at Pop Hicks and Trade Winds Restaurant before being forced to retire in 1976 for medical reasons. Preceding her in death, in addition to her husband, were two sons, Cecil Joe and John Kirkendoll; her brother, Virgil Smith; two grandchildren, Toni Washington and Ruth-ann Washington; a great grandchild, Alina Maria Lent; and long-time companion, Creamer “Bud” Hardrick. Mrs. Kirkendoll was a member of the Bethany Baptist Church. Burial will conclude in the Clinton Cemetery under the direction of the Stanley-Lee Funeral Home in Clinton. Survivors include five daughters, Doris Grimes, Gracie Walker, both of Clinton, Ruth Perry of Frederick, Nancy Johnson of Ardmore, Flora Marie Crawford of Oklahoma City; five sons, Lawrence Kirkendoll of Oklahoma City, James Kirkendoll of Wichita, Kans., Jessie Kirkendoll of Clinton, Garnett Hardrick of Oklahoma City, Anthony Hardrick of Wichita, Kans.; two sisters, Viola Jackson and her husband, Elder Eugene Jackson of Wichita, Kans., Lucille Hubbard and her husband, Leonard, of Oklahoma City; two brothers, L.V. Smith and his wife, Lois, of Clinton, Roy Burleson and his wife, Louise, of Wichita, Kans.; 28 grandchildren; 52 great grandchildren; and a daughter-in-law, Ivonne Kirkendoll of Columbia, S.C.

‘Doc’ Carpenter funeral Monday
Funeral services for Dwain Ray “Doc” Carpenter, age 76, longtime Butler resident, will be held at 2 p.m. Mon-day in the Butler High School Auditorium with Richard Sandoval and Jonathan Zerby officiating. Carpenter died Thursday, Nov. 8, 2001, at the University Medical Center in Oklahoma City. He was born on Aug. 28, 1925 in Butler, the son of George W. and Elizabeth (Brown) Carpenter. He grew up in Butler and started high school there before leaving to join the Air Force during World War II. Carpenter came back later and graduated in 1948. He was married to Lou Jantz on Aug. 9, 1948 in Wheeler, Texas before moving to Wichita, Kans. where he worked for Cessna Aircraft for 18 years. They moved back to Butler in 1971 where he farmed until his retirement in 1995. He also ran a Phillips 66 station in Butler. Carpenter enjoyed playing dominoes with his friends and going to the Country Jamboree. A highlight of his life was watching his grandchildren play basketball and his son coach basketball. He was a member of the New Butler Church of Christ, Masonic Lodge and Eastern Star. Preceding him in death were his parents; a great grandson, Braden Miller; two brothers, Frank and Carl; and two sisters, Carrie Powers and Zelma Autry. Burial will conclude in the Butler Cemetery under the direction of the Stanley-Lee Funeral Home in Clinton. Survivors include his wife, Lou, of the home; two daughters, Bonnie Lathrom of Butler, Ginger Baker of Hammon; a son, Curtis Carpenter of Clinton; his twin sister, Doris Gage of Rowlett, Texas; two sisters, Rachel, Johnson of Sedgwick, Kans., Melba Collins of Hammon; two brothers, Howard of Arapaho, Art of Butler; 13 grandchildren, Bena Straub, Phillip Drouhard, Jacque Rivera, Brandon Lathrom, Jennifer Ross, Kendra Postlewaite, Kerwin Carpenter, Ellis McMillan, Olivia Martin, Donald Baker, Andy Baker, Israel Carpenter, Mariela Acosta; 18 great grandchildren, Haley and Tylor Kinney, Pete and Keisha Drouhard, Ciara, Jude, Mathew, Amber Rivera, Jantz McMillian, Carl Amber, Beranda Straub, Brylee Lathrom, Ashlyn Taylor, Chandler Miller, Zachery and Abigail Acosta, and baby girl Baker.

'Mac' McKinney rites Saturday
Graveside services for Tho-mas Everett “Mac” McKinney, age 78, Cordell resident, will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday in the Lawnview Cemetery at Cordell with Clinton minister Pat Peters officiating. McKinney died Friday, Nov. 9, 2001, in the Cordell Christian Home. He was born on Aug. 26, 1923 at Pilot Point, Texas, the son of Brantson and Rettie Mae (Wilson) McKinney. At the age of 12 when his mother died, McKinney hopped a train and has been on his own since that time. He traveled extensively during his growing-up years. On Aug. 11, 1942 he was married to Miss Lucile Winn in Marlin, Texas, and they farmed in Texas until he retired in 1981. Upon retirement, the couple moved to Hobart. His wife preceded him in death in 1999. Over the past few years, McKinney has made his home in Cordell and Clinton. He enjoyed working with animals as well as being with his children and grandchildren. Preceding him in death, along with his wife, were a son, Donald Ray; two sisters, Laverne and Vera; and two brothers, Homer and Ray. Arrangements are under the direction of the Stanley-Lee Funeral Home of Clinton. Survivors include a daughter, Brenda Muncrief of Huntsville, Texas; a son, Gene McKinney of Cordell, Keenan McKinney of Clinton; three sisters, Eva Belle, Frances and Sherry; three brothers, Robert of Waco, Carroll and James, both of Weatherford, Texas; 18 grandchildren; and 12 great grandchildren.
