SERVICES HELD MONDAY FOR BOBBY D. BROWN
November 16, 1999-Graveside services with Reverend Ronald Eldridge officiating were held Monday, November 15 at 2:00 p.m., in The Fairfax (Oklahoma) Cemetery for Bobby D. Brown, 75, who passed away November 11, in The St Luke's Medical Center in Jacksonville, Florida.
Bobby was born February 1, 1924 in Shidler, Oklahoma the son of Jesse F. & Stella Flo (Dean) Brown and graduated from Shidler High School.
He was a retired U.S. Navy Chief Petty Officer and a member of The Shidler Christian Church.
Survivors include: a daughter, Cynthia R.N. Sallee-Brown of Pa'Aulio, Hawaii; a special friend, W. Paul Brann of the home in Jacksonville, Florida; an aunt, Mrs. Edna Mohney of Pawhuska, Oklahoma; a niece, Bettye Boone of Flemingsburg, Kentucky; a granddaughter, Rebecca Schuler and a great granddaughter, Gloria Wilson.
Johnson Funeral Directors, Pawhuska, Oklahoma were in charge of arrangements.
SERVICES HELD FOR MRS. GERTRUDE K. WITT
NEWS RELEASE FROM NEEKAMP FUNERAL HOME (Bartlesville, Oklahoma), November 9, 1999
Mrs. Gertrude K. Witt, Age 79, a native and lifetime resident of Bartlesville, died Sunday morning (November 7, 1999) in a local convalescent facility.
Graveside committal rites and prayer services for Mrs. Witt will be held Wednesday at 2:00 p.m. on the family plot of the White Rose Cemetery in Bartlesville with the Reverend Jess Trammel, pastor of the Bartlesville Tabernacle, presiding.
Mrs. Witt was born in Bartlesville, January 10, 1920, the daughter of Joseph Oscar and Bessie (Files) Line, and attended local schools.
She married Charley M. witt who preceded her in death November 25, 1986.
Mrs. Witt is survived by four sons, Verner Leroy Lowe, Jerry Noland Lowe, Joseph John Hughey and Roger Dale Lowe, all of Bartlesville; three daughters, Burddie Lowe of Norman, Oklahoma, Opal Fern Nading and Carolyn Joyce Lowe, both of Bartlesville; one sister, Gennie Whiteturkey of Bartlesville; one brother, Jack Line of Canada; twelve grandchildren and seventeen great-grandchildren.
In addition to her husband, Mrs. Witt was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, Hubert Line and James Line and five grandchildren, Cathey, Frankie Lowe, Robin Lowe, Jerry Joseph Nading and James Dean Nading.
Services and interment are under the direction of the Neekamp Funeral Home.
SERVICES FOR GLORIA LOTT
November 8, 1999-Gloria Marie Lott, 54, passed away Friday, November 5, 1999 at her rural Hominy home.
She was born February 22, 1945, at Baxter Springs, Kansas to Benjamin Franklin Grier and Hazel (Richardson) Grier and later moved to Hominy where she attended Hominy High School.
Gloria married Charles Lott in 1964 and the couple had two sons. She later married J.T. Lott who survives at the home.
Gloria worked in secretarial and clerical positions and was employed at Benson Lumber Company in Pawhuska for several years but was working in Tulsa at the time of her death.
Gloria was known as a very loving and devoted mother.
Survivors in addition to her husband are: two sons, Tony Lott of Overland Park, Kansas and Shane Lott of Tulsa, Oklahoma; her mother, Hazel Grier of Peru, Kansas; three sisters, Thyra Wright of Joplin, Missouri, Tammy Grier and Sherry Long, both of Peru, Kansas, and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews and friends whom she loved. She was preceded in death by her father and a brother, Frank Grier.
Cremation has taken place. Graveside memorial services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, November 13, 1999 at A.J. Powell Memorial Cemetery in Hominy with inurnment to follow.
Friends may sign the book of remembrance at Powell Funeral Home and at the cemetery until service time.
Arrangements are under the direction of Powell Funeral Home of Hominy.
SERVICES MONDAY FOR HAROLD "BUZZ" WOOD
November 5, 1999-Funeral services will be Monday, November 8, 1999 at 1:30 p.m. in The Johnson Funeral Home Chapel in Pawhuska for Harold R. "Buzz" Wood, 83, who passed away November 4, in The Pawhuska Nursing Home following a lengthy illness.
Buzz was born February 9, 1916 in Ochelata, Oklahoma, the son of Lawrence and Laura (Wiltse) Wood and moved to Shidler, Oklahoma with his parents in 1924 where lived all of his young life.
While in school Buzz was a Golden Glvoe contender and enjoyed boxing. He served in World War II in the Air Force as a staff sergeant and was a turrett, tail and bombardier gunner.
After leaving the Air Force, he moved to Hobbs, New Mexico, where he was the owner of Wood Construction Company.
He married Alla Mae Davis and to them a son, Tommy Harold was born. Alla Mae preceded him in death in 1961.
May 5, 1979 he married Lorene Fonda in Miami, Oklahoma and they moved to Pawhuska in 1990 where he worked for Homeland Market and Alco Department Store.
Buzz was a member of The First Baptist Chruch in Pawhuska. Survivors are his wife, Lorene of the home; a son, Tommy and his wife Conna Wood, a granddaughter, DAnielle Wood and two sisters, Nora and her husband Howard Novell; and Virginia Gage, all of Pawhuksa; three step-sons and a step-daughter; a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Layman Ammerman, Gordon Wood and Kenneth Wood; three sisters, Lela Mangum, Louise Vernon and Betty Charvat.
Burial will be in Grandview Cemetery, Kaw City, Oklahoma with Doctor Larry Wallace officiating under the direction of Johnson's.
SERVICES HELD FOR ROSE DOWNEY
November 5, 1999-Rose Elizabeth Ford Downey, 81, passed away Tuesday, November 2, 1999 in the St. John's Medical Center in Tulsa, Oklahoma.
She was born February 22, 1918 in Morrison, Oklahoma to Warren Edward Ford and Grace Elizabeth (Daffron) Ford and moved with the family to Coyle, Okalhoma when she was a child.
Rose graduated from Coyle Highschool and November 24, 1937, she and James T. Downey were married in Guthrie, Oklahoma and they made their home on a ranch north of Pawhuska for over fifty years. After Jim's death, Rose moved to town and continued to run the ranch.
She was an active member of The First Christian Church, The Christian Women's Fellowship, The GFWC-Heeko Club, the P.E.O., The pawhuska Hospital Auxiliary, The Osage County Cattlewomen and The Red Eagle Home Extension Club.
Rose was preceded in death by her husband, Jim, October 13, 1988.
She is survived by her brother, Edward Ford and wife Gail of Coyle, Oklahoma; three daughters, Joyce Ward and hsuband Edward of Pawhuska, Oklahoma; Carol Henry and gusband Charles of Borger, Texas; and Kathy Ricci and hsuband Henry of Millville, New Jersey; four grandchiildren, Christopher Ward of Pawhuska, James Henry and wife Jennifer of Tulsa, Oklahoma, Jeffrey Henry of Stillwater, Oklahoma and Stephanie Jones of Las Vegas, Nevada; three great-grandchildren, Rose Allison, Kathryn Elizabeth and James Edward Wrd of Pawhuska and a host of other family and friends.
A Memorial has been established in The First Christian Church, Pawhuska, where services were held Friday, November 5, 1999 at 2:00 p.m., with interment in the Pawhuska Cemetery. The Reverend Ronald Eldridge officiated under the direction of Johnson's Fuenral Directors.
MONDAY SERVICES FOR VIETTA MOORE
October 30, 1999-Vietta Francil Sutton Moore was born June 3, 1924 in Red Bird, Oklahoma, to Chester and Sally Sutton and was raised and educated in Pawhuska, Oklahoma.
She attended beauty college in St. Paul, Minnesota where she earned a degree in Cosmetology before returning to Pawhuska and opening "Vietta's Beauty Salon".
While owning and operating the business and working full time for twenty years, she successfully raised four children before relocating to Cincinnati, Ohio where she was employed with the L.S. Ayres Company. She later joined Contour Hair Design, retiring from that company in 1999.
Vietta accepted Christ at an early age and in Cincinnati, joined Allen Temple AME Church where she was a choir member and served on the Women's Missionary Society.
The Allen Temple congregation became her extended family and a place where she found "a home away from home". As an instrument of God, He used her to teach the understanding of kindness, compassion and humbleness.
Vietta's unwavering strength and devotion showed a path for others to follow and her spirit of goodwill affected all who knew and loved her.
When her work was done, October 25, 1999, He sent a guardian angel to carry her soul home. Vietta passed away quietly and peacefully, as she lived her life.
She was preceded in death by a daughter, Suzette Batson, a brother, Connie Sutton and a sister, Noree Clegg.
She is survived by two sisters, Nadine Harper of Pawhuska, Oklahoma; Octavia Waters of Las Vegas, Nevada; one brother, C.T. Sutton of Tulsa, Oklahoma, three sons, Cleo Brown, Minneapolis, Minnesota; Leo Brown, Edina, Minnesota; and Morris Dyes of Houston, Texas; three daughters-in-law, Yolanda Maya Brown, Brenda Bassiganni Brown and Berna Gilkey Dyes; six grandchildren, Tracey Batson, James Brown, Phillip Brown, Camille Ishem, Candice Dobson and Clarice Brown; five great-grandchildren, Kyle Geer, Aaron Dyes, Brooke Ishem, Brigham Ishem and Kaitlyn Batson and a host of other relatives, friends and her Allen Temple Church family.
Services were conducted Monday, November 1, 1999 at 1:00 p.m. in the Johnson Chapel, Pawhuska, Oklahoma, by Pastor Winfred Brown with interment in the Pawhuska Cemetery.
SATURDAY MORNING MASS FOR CLEMENT GEORGE COSHEHE
October 22, 1999-Clement George Coshehe passed away October 20, 1999 in The Integist Bass Baptist Health Center in Enid, Oklahoma, following an extended illness.
He was born April 24, 1931 in Pawhuska, Oklahoma, the son of John and Josephine (Tomey) Coshehe and was a member of The Immaculate Conception Catholic Church.
Survivors include three sisters: Henrietta Mashunkashey, Eva May Yates and Angeline C. Revard, all of Pawhuska and numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Clement was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters, Baby Josephine Coshehe and Mary Rose Holding and a brother, John Henry Coshehe.
Rosary was held at 7:00 p.m., Friday, October 22, 1999 in the home of his sister, Angie Revard, 2207 Bayliss, Pawhuska, where he will lie in State from Thursday Afternoon until service time Saturday.
Mass will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, October 23, 1999 in The Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Pawhuska, with burial to follow in the Pawhuska Cemetery.
Father Leonard Higgins will officiate under the direction of Johnson Funeral Directors.
GRAVESIDE SERVICES FOR HERBERT MURPHY
October 14, 1999-Graveside services will be held tomorrow (Friday, October 15, 1999) at 2:00 p.m. in the Pawhuska Cemetery for Herbert Murphy, 89, who died October 13 (the day after his birthday) at the family home in Bartlesville.
Mr. Murphy was born at his family's ranch near Tahlequah, Oklahoma, October 12, 1910, the youngest of seven children of Thomas Murphy, a businessman and rancher and Amanda Terrell Murphy, a teacher and homemaker.
The family was listed on the Dawes Commission rolls of the Cherokee Indian Tribe.
Upon the death of his father in 1920, Herbert moved with his mother to Pawhuska, Oklahoma, where he later met Dora Emmaline (Dollie) Capps, who he married October 10, 1937.
Mr. Murphy was an experienced horseman, having been a cowboy in his youth. He was a stonemason on a Works Progress Administration (WPA) project in Pawhuska in the 1930's, building what is now the Osage Indian Museum. During World War II he worked for the Atchison, Topeka and Santa Fe Railroad and, in later years, for the Osage County road maintenance crew from which he retired.
Mr. Murphy was a proud and gentle man who seldom expressed emotions or raised his voice in anger. He had a soft heart for children and animals, frequently rocking his own children to sleep when they were infants. He loved fishing and gardening. As a young man he was the pitcher in a local baseball league and later taught his son and older daughter to play baseball, taking them to sporting events when they were growing up in Bartlesville. Survivors in addition to his wife, Dollie, of the home in Bartlesville, include a son, Herbert Eugene Murphy and his wife, Gladys of Kansas City; a daughter, Emma Darlene Capps Murphy of Tulsa; a daughter Anna Christine Roye of Tulsa; a daughter, Sandra Kay Young and her husband, Dr. Jim Young of Bartlesville, Oklahoma; nine grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, four brothers and two sisters.
Long time family friend, Reverend Raymond Redcorn, will lead the graveside services, under the direction of Johnson Funeral Directors.
GRAVESIDE SERVICES FOR HELEN CORNETT
October 14, 1999-Graveside services will be held tomorrow (Friday, October 15, 1999) at 11:00 a.m., in the Pawhuska Cemetery for Helen Cornett, 90, who passed away October 11, in the Pawhuska Nursing Home, following an extended illness. The Reverend Scott Fischer will officiate under the directions of Johnson's.
Mrs. Cornett was born January 12, 1909 in Sentinel, Oklahoma, the daughter of Phillip and B.B. (King) Young. June 25, 1929 in Pawhuska, Oklahoma, she married Judge J. Corbett Cornett who preceded her in death May 2, 1981.
The couple made their home in Pawhuska where Helen was a member of the First Presbyterian Church and active in community projects.
Surviving are a son, James C. Cornett of Tulsa and a sister, Mrs. Thad (Sally) Holcomb of Pawhuska; five grandchildren, seventeen great grandchildren and a host of other relatives and friends.
GRAVESIDE SERVICES FOR MARTIN INFANT
October 14, 1999-Graveside services will be held tomorrow (Friday, October 15, 1999) at 4:00 p.m., in the Pawhuska Cemetery for Albert Leon Martin, son of Ricky Lee Martin and Carol J. Carl of Pawhuska. Albert died shortly after birth October 11, 1999 in the Jane Phillips Medical Center, Bartlesville.
Survivors in addition to his parents of Pawhuska are his paternal grandmother, Patty Martin of Wynona, Oklahoma; his paternal grandfather, Teddy Martin of Grand Junction, Colorado, and his maternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Oliver Carl of Shidler, Oklahoma.
Doctor Larry Wallace will officiate at the services under the direction of Johnson's.
TIM TOWNLEY FUNERAL SERVICES
September 13, 1999 - Funeral services for Timothy Wayne Townley, 34, will be held Wednesday, September 15, 1999 at 10:00 a.m. in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in Pawhuska, with Phil Craven officiating. Burial will follow in the Ethel Reece Cemetery in Barnsdall under the direction of Johnson Funeral Director's of Pawhuska.
Timothy was born April 28, 1965 in Pawhuska, Oklahoma, the son of James Andy and Barbara (Freeman) Townley and died September 11, 1999 of injuries received in a traffic accident on the Atlantic Field Road west of Pawhuska.
Timothy attended the Pawhuska and Barnsdall School Systems and was a carpenter by trade. He and Anjanette Jaye Ames were married in Pawhuska just a few hours before the accident.
Survivors in addition to his wife Anjanette include a son, Skylar A. Ames of the home in Pawhuska; his father James Andy Townley of Barnsdall; his mother, Barbara Townley of Bartlesville; four sisters, Gloria Jean McGowen of Rosebud, Oregon; Brenda Jolene Flowers of Baytown, Texas; Debra Kay Moody of Stoney Point, North Carolina and Pamela Dawn Neal of Perkasie, Pennsylvania; a cousin, Delbert David Townley of Pawhuska and numerous other relatives and friends.
Tim was loved dearly by everyone who knew him and will be greatly missed.
He was preceded in death by a brother, James Richard Townley; grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Herb Freeman and Mr. and Mrs. Alonzo Townley and a niece, Breanna Jo Flowers.
SAM HUBBARD FUNERAL SERVICES
September 12, 1999 - Closed casket services for Samuel Frank Hubbard, Jr., 25, former Newkirk resident, will be held at 2:00 p.m., Thursday, September 16, in the Miller-Stahl Funeral Chapel with Danny W. Cornish, minister of the Newkirk Church of Christ officiating. Burial will follow in Newkirk Cemetery.
Mr. Hubbard was born February 26, 1974 in Wellington, Kansas, the son of Samuel Frank Hubbard and Saba (Sutton) Hubbard. He died September 11, 1999 in Pawhuska, Oklahoma, of massive head and internal injuries received in a one-vehicle accident west of Pawhuska, Oklahoma on the Atlantic Field Road.
Sam received his early education in Argonia, Kansas, until 1984 when the family moved to Newkirk and he finished his education in the Newkirk school system.
After leaving school Mr. Hubbard lived in several areas performing a variety of jobs.
September 13, 1997 he and Kendra Lowman were married in Newkirk and established their home in Ponca City, where he was employed as an asphalt layer for Evans Construction. His hobbies were fishing and dancing.
Survivors in addition to his wife, Kendra, include two sons, Colton and Darrel Wyatt and a daughter, Kelsey of the home in Ponca City; his parents, Darrel and Saba Gregory of Newkirk, three brothers, Shane Gregory of Holtum, Texas, Austin Gregory of Ogden, Utah and Giles Gregory of Newkirk; one sister, Susan Lawrence of Newkirk; his paternal grandparents, Dean and Sonja Gregory of Newkirk and his maternal grandmother and step grandfather, Betty and Lonnie Holley of Harper, Kansas; and his father and step-mother, Samuel Frank Hubbard and Deborah of California.
He was preceded in death by his maternal grandfather, John Sutton, Sr.
Casket bearers will be Bob Brandt, Jason Bruce, Darwin Buxton, Earnie Connely, Curtis Eastin and Billy Eckles.
A memorial fund has been established in Mr. Hubbard's memory to be put in trust for his three children, through Eastman National Bank, Post Office Box 468, Newkirk 74647-0468.
FRIDAY SERVICES FOR DOROTHY BICKFORD
September 9, 1999 - Graveside services will be held Friday, September 10, at 2 p.m., in the Pawhuska Cemetery for Dorotha Carroll Bickford, longtime Pawhuska resident.
Dorotha was born March 25, 1928 in Joplin, Missouri, the daughter of William Earl and Helen (Drury) Carroll and died unexpectedly September 8, 1999 in the Pawhuska Hospital. Dorotha attended Pawhuska schools, was later employed at the G&L Drug Store and was a member of the First Christian Church.
Survivors include a daughter, Shirley Kirk of Oklahoma City; four sons and two daughters-in-law, Gene Bickford of Whitewater, Kansas; Scott Bickford of Wichita; Pete and Lisa Bickford of Pawhuska, Oklahoma and Kyle and Michele Bickford of Wichita; a sister and brother-in-law, Catherine and Jay Esley of Tulsa; a brother, Charles O. "Bing" Carroll of Fontana, California; a sister-in-law, Sally Carroll of Pawhuska, Oklahoma, fourteen grandchildren and a host of other relatives and friends.
Dorotha was preceded in death by her parents and two brothers, Billy P. Carroll and Harold Carroll.
The Reverend Raymond Redcorn of Pawhuska will officiate under the direction of Johnson Funeral Directors.
SERVICES HELD FOR MRS. EVA DOW
Mrs. Eva Dow, age 81, widow of Ray Allen Dow, and a resident of Bartlesville since 1970,
died Thursday afternoon, September 2, in the Jane Phillips Medical Center in Bartlesville.
Funeral services for Mrs. Dow were held at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, September 7, 1999, in the Orion Baptist
Church in Fairview, Oklahoma with Pastor Henry Brown presiding.
Final committal rites were accorded Mrs. Dow on the family plot of the Bethel Cemetery in Fairview.
Pallbearers were Jerry Dow, Darrell Gosney, Edward Wilcox, Bruce Dow, George Tripp and Bob Wion.
Services and interment were under the direction of Neekamp Funeral Home of Bartlesville, Oklahoma.
