JOHN LOREN REYNOLDS
September 8, 2000 – John Loren Reynolds, 52, of Hominy, Oklahoma, passed away unexpectedly September 7, in the Cleveland Area Hospital, Cleveland, Oklahoma. John was born August 29, 1948, in Pawhuska, Oklahoma, the son of William John and Bertha (Burnett) Reynolds. He attended the Pawhuska School System and served in the U.S. Navy. John and Vicki Ann Burris were married November 6, 1980, in Pawhuska. He was Housing Loan Coordinator for The Osage Tribal Housing Authority in Hominy. Survivors in addition to his wife, Vicki of the home in Hominy, are: a son, John Michael Reynolds of Hominy and a daughter, Lacee Rose Reynolds of the home; two nephews, B.J. Smith of Miami, Oklahoma, and John Loren Smith of Kansas City, Missouri; a niece, Christal Weavel of Bartlesville, Oklahoma and a host of other nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. John was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Frances Ella Weavel. Rosary will be recited Sunday, September 10, at 7:00 p.m., at the Wakon Iron Hall in Indian Camp, Pawhuska. Mass will be celebrated Monday, September 11, at 10:00 a.m. at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Pawhuska with interment to follow in the Pawhuska City Cemetery. Graveside military services will be provided by American Legion Post and VFW. Father Leonard Higgins will officiate under the direction of Johnson Funeral Directors. John will lie in state at the Wakon Iron Hall, Indian Camp, Pawhuska, until service time.

ROLAND R. FORD
September 8, 2000 – Roland R. Ford, 87, of Skiatook, Oklahoma, passed away in his home on Wednesday, September 6. Services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, September 9, at Immanuel Baptist Chruch in Skiatook with Mr. Paul Mitts and Mr. Jerald Freeman officiating. Interment will follow in The Osage Garden Cemetery, Skiatook, under the direction of Sien-Shelton Funeral Home. Mr. Ford was born August 28, 1913 in Stigler, Oklahoma where he was raised and received his education. He married Lena Mae Taylor on December 6, 1930 and she preceded him in death in 1977. He later married Dorothy Mae Freeman on March 10, 1978 in Skiatook. Mr. Ford lived in Skiatook for thirty-five years and was active in the community including being a member of the Church of The Nazarene and then of the Immanuel Baptist Church. He was very involved with establishing and taping the television broadcasts of the Immanuel Baptist Church Sunday Services. He was well known throughout the area for his work in the antique business, both sales and refinishing. For many years prior to that, he was in the grocery business in Skiatook as well as several Oklahoma cities including Seminole where he owned his own grocery store. Mr. Ford was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers and his first wife, Lena, the mother of his two children. Mr. Ford will be greatly missed and is survived by his wife, Dorothy Mae Ford of the home; two children, Charles Ford and his wife, Lou of Memphis, Tennessee and Yvonne Matthews and her husband, Matt of Phoenix, Arizona; four step-children, Janie Martin and husband, Roger of Pinson, Alabama; Jerald Freeman and wife Dixie; Larry Freeman and wife, Linda; Paul Freeman and wife Carol, all of Skiatook; fifteen grandchildren, twenty-nine great grandchildren and one brother, Ray Ford and wife, Pam of Tulsa, Oklahoma. Casket Escorts for the services will be: Richard Barnes, Fred Beyl, Jerry Don Shannon, Gene Jones, Dan Griffin and Rick Collins. Music will be performed by Charles and Margaret Carver. Services and interment will be under the direction of Sien-Shelton Funeral Home.

PAUL SHERMAN McALEXANDER
August 31, 2000 - Paul Sherman McAlexander, 80, of Dewey, Oklahoma, passed away August 29, 2000, in the Jane Phillips Medical Center in Bartlesville. He was born in Ottawa, Kansas January 24, 1920, the son of John Wesley and Ruby (Wompler) McAlexander. February 9, 1938, in Ottawa, he married Rosa Louise Cape, who survives at the home in Dewey. Paul was an electrical lineman by trade and worked eighteen years for the City of Pawhuska (Oklahoma) Electric Department. He went on to work at the Red Rock Power Plant near Ponca City, Oklahoma, and the Glenn Rose, Texas, Power Plant before retiring and moving back to Dewey, Oklahoma, where they made their final home. A devoted husband and father, Paul enjoyed hunting, fishing and camping with his family. In the 1950's, as a hobby, he built and raced stock cars and spent many Saturday nights at the track in Coffeyville, Kansas, always with his wife and children until Rosa convinced him him that a man with seven kids needed to find a little safer hobby. After that Paul and his son, Bill, spent many weekends hunting and fishing together and when his other son, Paul Wayne, was old enough, they started taking him with them. Surviving, in addition to his wife, Rosa, are: two sons and daughters-in-law, William Floyd and Ann McAlexander of Tulsa, Oklahoma, and Paul Wayne and Roberta McAlexander, of Pawhuska; five daughters and sons-in-law, Neoma Fay Emel of Portland, Oregon, Karen Kay and Tom Bell of Oklahoma City, Sharon Ray and Lewis Huckaby of Oklahoma City, Linda Sue and Bill Evans of Copan, Oklahoma, and Nancy Louise Nelson of Tulsa; one sister, Leota Crowel of Tulsa; ten grandchildren and eighteen great-grandchildren. Paul was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers, five sisters and two grandsons, Richard Loyd Lott and Jason Michael Nelson. Graveside services will be held Friday, September 1, at 2:00 p.m., in the Pawhuska City Cemetery with the Reverend Larry Wallace of the First Baptist Church in Pawhuska, officiating. The Pawhuska Elks Lodge will host a luncheon for family and friends at 11:00 a.m., Friday. Johnson Funeral Directors are in charge of arrangements.

JAMES KELLY WESLEY
August 31, 2000 – James Kelly Wesley, 96, passed away August 29, at the residence of his son and daughter-in-law, Charles and Donna Wesley, in Tomball, Texas. He was born September 18, 1903, in Summerset, Kentucky, the son of James Mitchell and Laura Belle (Warren) Wesley and married the former Edith Cogburn on December 24, 1928 in Okmulgee, Oklahoma. They were married for sixty-seven years at the time of her death, February 4, 1995. A longtime Pawhuska, Oklahoma, resident, James was retired from The Texaco Company. Survivors are two sons and daughters-in-law: Charles and Donna Wesley of Tomball, Texas and Johnny and Mattie Wesley of Shawnee, Oklahoma; two daughters and sons-in-law, Betty and David Ussery of Gore, Oklahoma and Sue and Lloyd Chaney of Webb City, Oklahoma; a sister, Vinnie Lee Carner of Sapulpa, Oklahoma and a brother, James Mitchell Wesley, Jr. of Beggs, Oklahoma; thirteen grandchildren, twenty-three great grandchildren and seven great great grandchildren. In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by his parents, a brother, Walter Clay Wesley and a sister, LuVena Howard. Services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Friday, September 1, 2000 in the First Church of the Nazarene in Pawhuska, Oklahoma with the Reverend J. Dale Wesley officiating. HAZEL MARIE RAINWATER
August 28, 2000 - Hazel Marie Rainwater, 48, passed away August 25, 2000, in the LBJ General Hospital in Houston, Texas. She was born January 10, 1952 in Pawhuska, Oklahoma, the daughter of William Elmer, Jr., and Anna Colleen (Cheshewalla) Moon. Survivors are a son, William Moon of Pasadena, Texas; a granddaughter, Ashley Nicole Moon of Little Rock, Arkansas; two sisters, Cheryl Pring of Navasota, Texas and JoAnne Miller of Pasadena, Texas and a brother, William H. "Bill" Moon of Pasadena. Hazel was preceded in death by her parents and a sister, Susan Moon. Graveside services will be held Tuesday, August 29, at 2:00 p.m. in the Pawhuska City Cemetery with Father Leonard Higgins of the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church officiating. MARY ROSE ZAROOR
August 19, 2000 – Longtime Pawhuska resident and businesswoman, Mary Rose Zaroor, 95, Passed away, Tuesday, August 16, 2000 in Wheeling, Illinois. Born May 26, 1905 in St. Joseph, Missouri, to Elas and Odile (Smaha) Zaroor, Mary owned and operated The Hollywood Shoppe in Pawhuska for many years, until her retirement. She was a member of The Immaculate Conception Catholic Church. Surviving are a sister, Elizabeth Jenning of Kerrville, Texas; a sister-in-law, Blanche Zaroor of Muskogee, Oklahoma; six nieces, Norma Jean and Fred Stewart of Prospect Heights, Illinois; Gloria Heisley of Tulsa, Oklahoma; Marcia Owen of Dallas, Texas; Karen and Jack Lauderdale, Diane Dugger and Janice Tennant, all of Muskogee, Oklahoma. Mary was preceded in death by her parents and a brother, Fred Zaroor. Rosary will be recited Sunday, August 20, at 7:30 p.m., in The Johnson Funeral Home Chapel in Pawhuska. RUBY LEE KOTHE
August 14, 2000 - Ruby Lee Kothe, 83, passed away in her sleep Sunday, August 13, 2000 following a battle with cancer. She was born July 2, 1917 in Caldwell, Kansas, to the large and loving family of Willard and Lydia (Ancel) Roady. Ruby was married to Easley Chris Kothe September 20, 1936 in Ponca City, Oklahoma, and they lived in the Fairfax, Oklahoma area for twenty years prior to moving to Pawhuska, Oklahoma, to finish their working years. Ruby was a former cook for the Bowring, Oklahoma school. Survivors in addition to her husband of sixty-four years, Easley Kothe of the home in Pawhuska are: a daughter and son-in-law, JoAnn and Phillip Morris of Stafford, Texas; a son and daughter-in-law, Ron "Butch" and Sue Kothe of Sapulpa, Oklahoma; eight grandchildren, Jackie Howard and Jody Onofrey of Stafford, Texas; Ernie Kothe of Sand Springs, Oklahoma; Robin Horton of Tulsa, Oklahoma; Mark Kothe, James Kothe, Patrick Kothe and Stephanie Ned all of Farmington, New Mexico; four sisters, Betty Mae Isaacs of Wellington, Kansas; Maxine Simmons of Ponca City, Oklahoma; Permelia Hodges of Goddard, Kansas and Opal Mullins of Carrolton, Texas; a brother, Carl Roady of Ponca City and fifteen great grandchildren in which she took great delight. Ruby was preceded in death by a son, Donald Kothe of Farmington, New Mexico; her parents, Willard and Lydia Roady; two brothers, Glen Roady of Ponca City, Ray Roady of the home, two sisters, Ruth Miller of Wellington, Kansas and Mary Ellen Roady of the home. Services will be at 10:00 a.m., Wednesday, August 16, 2000 in The Johnson Funeral Home Chapel with committal to follow at 2:00 p.m., in The Fairfax Cemetery under the direction of Johnson Funeral Directors of Pawhuska. The Reverend Greg Hurst of The Drippings Springs Baptist Church of Sapulpa, Oklahoma will officiate.

HOWARD H. NOVELL
August 7, 2000 - Howard H. Novell, 80, a longtime resident of Pawhuska, Oklahoma, passed away August 4, 2000 in the Pawhuska Hospital following an extended illness. Howard was born October 17, 1919 in East Prairie, Missouri, the son of John Calvin and Sophia (Smith) Novell. He attended school and graduated from Webb City in 1939. As a young man he enjoyed singing and playing guitar over WBBZ Radio in Ponca City, Oklahoma, and retired from Pipefitters and Plumbers of Illinois after forty years of service. Howard was a member of the Calvary Baptist Church, Eastern Star, Masonic Lodge and the Pawhuska Elks Lodge. On May 6, 1989, Howard and Nora Mae Wood Pence were married in Miami, Oklahoma, and made their home in Pawhuska. Survivors in addition to his wife, Nora, of the home are: two brothers, O.C. and wife, Joan of LaMesa, California and Bob and wife, Rose of Heath, Ohio; one granddaughter, Laura of Utah; four nieces, one nephew and a host of friends. Howard was a friend to everyone he met. Services will be Tuesday, August 8, in The Johnson Funeral Home Chapel in Pawhuska with interment in The Pawhuska Cemetery with Reverend Scott Hill of the Calvary Baptist Church officiating. JUANITA LAVINA GRUBE DAVIS
August 7, 2000 - Juanita Lavina Grube Davis, 75, a life long resident of the Pawhuska, Oklahoma area has been a Wynona, Oklahoma resident for the last several years. Juanita was born October 28, 1924 in Avant, Oklahoma, the daughter of William Enos and Sadie (Lane) Grube and attended the Shidler, Oklahoma schools. She passed away August 4, 2000 in The St. John's Medical Center in Tulsa, Oklahoma following an extended illness. Juanita was married November 3, 1977 in Pawhuska, to Billy Buck Davis who precededed her in death on December 1, 1994. She was a member of the Victory Baptist Church of Pershing, Oklahoma and a member of the American Legion Auxillary. Surviving are eight children: Belva Randolph of Kaw City, Oklahoma; Elizabeth Cheney of West Memphis, Arkansas; Marcine Cooper and Mary Jane Moore of Wichita, Kansas; John Alkire and Stella Rose Alkire of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma; Dale Lee Alkire of Webb City, Oklahoma and Billy Alkire of Pawhuska; a sister, Pauline Hazlett of Pawhuska; eighteen grandchildren, eleven step-grandchildren, twenty-five great grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Juanita was preceded in death by two sons, Eddie Alkire and Everett Alkire. Services were held Monday, August 7, 2000 in The Johnson Funeral Home Chapel with burial in The Pawhuska Cemetery with Reverend John White officiating. FRANKIE GENE BURGESS
August 2, 2000 – Frankie Gene Brugess, 61, longtime resident of Pawhuska, Oklahoma, passed away July 27, in The Southbrook Health Care Center in Ardmore, Oklahoma following an extended illness. Frankie was born March 16, 1939 in Cleveland, Oklahoma the son of George Vernon and Iva (Ingle) Burgess. He attended the Fairfax, Oklahoma School System and served in the United States Army. Frankie was a member of The Pawhuska Elks Lodge and a heavy equipment operator, retiring from Osage County District One due to ill health. Survivors are a son, Lloyd “Sundance” and wife Eva Burgess of Long Grove, Oklahoma; a daughter, Kala Burgess of Pass Christian, Mississippi; five brothers, Bobby and wife, Jo Monica Burgess and Tommy and wife, Connie Burgess all of Ponca City, Oklahoma; Bud and wife, Georgiana Ricketts of Skiatook, Oklahoma and Blackie and wife, Liz Ricketts of Pawhuska; two sisters, Pearl Sanders and Beverly and husband, Kenneth Thurman of Skiatook, Oklahoma; five grandchildren, Crystal Lea, Coltin Lee, Danica Lynn, Lloyd Franklin, Jr., and Christopher Gene Burgess and a host of other relatives and friends. Frankie was preceded in death by his parents, Lloyd and Iva Rickets; a half-sister, Betty Ruth Ricketts and a sister-in-law, Eva Rae Burgess. MARGARET J. 'PEGGY' (HUBBELL) HELMS
July 31, 2000 – Margaret Hubbell Helms, 70, passed away July 27, 2000 in the Hillcrest Medical Center, Tulsa, Oklahoma. She was born on January 8, 1930 in Fullerton, California, the daughter of John S. and Veva (Saxon) Hubbell. Peggy attended the Pawhuska, Oklahoma School System and Mt. Carmel Academy in Wichita, Kansas. She was formerly employed by Southwestern Bell Telephone Company and The John A. Brown Store, was a Member of the Osage Indian Tribe and The Holy Family Cathedral in Tulsa and was active in The Youth Services of The Holy Family. Surviving are a brother, John Saxon Hubbell of Pawhuska, numerous other relatives and friends. A Wake Service will be at 7:00 p.m., Tuesday, August 1, 2000 in The Johnson Funeral Home Chapel in Pawhuska. Mass will be Wednesday, August 2, at 11:00 a.m., in The Immaculate Conception Catholic Church with burial in The Pawhuska Cemetery. Father Leonard Higgins will officiate under the direction of Johnson Funeral Directors.

HOWARD EUGENE "GENE" GRAY
July 25, 2000 - Gene Gray was born October 7, 1929 in Castle, Oklahoma, the son of Howard H. and Joyce (Johnson) Gray and passed away July 25, 2000 in The Jane Phillips Medical Center in Bartlesville, Oklahoma. A 1947 graduate of Okemah, Oklahoma Highschool, Gene moved to Pawhuska as Agent of The Midland Valley Railroad in 1968. He retired from The Union Pacific Railroad with forty-three years of continuous service, never missing a day of work. Gene was a member of The First Baptist Church of Pawhuska, serving on the Building Committee and various other Church committees. He also served as a Deacon and on the Building Committees in churchs in Miami, Oklahoma, and Muskogee, Oklahoma. Gene was an avid hunter and fisherman.
Survivors are two sons, Kimball Gray of Pawhuska and Gary Lynn Gray of Gore, Oklahoma; five grand children and a great grandson. Gene was preceded in death by his parents and a son, Larry Gene Gray. Graveside services will be at 2:00 p.m., Friday, July 28, in the Pawhuska Cemetery with Reverend Ralph O. Dershem officiating under the direction of Johnson Funeral Directors. Following the services, the family will receive friends at The American Legion Post #198, 1449 West Main Street, Pawhuska.

BETTY JEAN MOORE
July 25, 2000 - Betty Jean Moore, lifelong resident of Pawhuska, Oklahoma, passed away July 23, 2000 In the Pawhuska Nursing Home following a prolonged illness. Betty was born April 20, 1928 In Pawhuska, the daughter of Audie and Dot (Barnett) Moore. She attended Pawhuska Schools graduating Pawhuska High School In 1943. Betty worked 38 years for The Video Theatres, beginning at The State Theater and becoming Manager over The Kihekah, The State and The Circle A Theaters and Corral Drive-In Theater in Pawhuska. When these closed she worked for Clifton’s Gift Shop, Howard’s Insurance Agency, The Osage County Assessor’s Office, Henry’s Jewelry Store and Timmons Oil Company. Betty was a member of The First United Methodist Church and The American Legion Auxiliary Post #97. Surviving are: A sister, Audie Lee Phillips of Pawhuska; a brother, Earl Sumpter of Shawnee, Oklahoma; a niece and her husband, Diane and Bill Todd of Pawhuska; great nieces, Cyndy Pryor and Tara Miller of Pawhuska; a great nephew, John Pryor of Pawhuska; great nieces and nephews, Rylan Pryor, Abigail Pryor, Daniell Lookout, Pendelton Lookout, Christopher Miller, Matthew Miller, Katelyn Lookout and Madison Miller all of Pawhuska; and a host of other relatives and friends. Graveside services, under the direction of Johnson Funeral Directors, will be at 10:00 a.m., Wednesday, July 26, 2000, in The Pawhuska Cemetery with Reverend Mark Smith officiating.

SYBLE STELLA FREEMAN HOPE
July 27, 2000 - Mrs. Syble Stella Freeman Hope, 85, resident of Barnsdall, died at 3:30 p.m, July 21, 2000 in the Barnsdall Nursing Home. Funeral services for Mrs. Hope were held at 11:00 a.m., July 25, in the Parkland Cemetery at Parkland, Oklahoma with Reverend Edgar Beaver of the Barnsdall Freewill Baptist Church officiating. Graveside services and interment were under the directions of the Stumpff Funeral Home Barnsdall. Mrs. Hope was born March 13, 1915 at Avery, Oklahoma to Robert Allen and Stella (Bridge) Shepherd Freeman. She was raised and received her education at Davenport, Oklahoma graduating high school there in 1934. Mrs. Hope was married to Fred Edgar Hope on April 10, 1934 at Chandler, Oklahoma. They made their home in the Kendrick, Oklahoma area until 1937 when they moved to California where they lived for eight years while Mr. Hope was employed in the construction business. Mr. and Mrs. Hope moved back to Oklahoma South of Cushing in 1945 where they began farming until moving to Barnsdall in 1950. Mrs. Hope was employed as a Sewing Machine Operator for the Pawhuska Garment Factory for several years and later was employed at the Barnsdall Public Schools in the Cafeteria until her retirement. Mrs. Hope is survived by one son, Fred Allen Hope and his wife Evelyn of Greeley, Colorado; three daughters, Lois Starr and her husband Earl of Eugene, Oregon, Betty Quillin and her husband Jim of Wynona, Oklahoma and Linda Ambrose and her husband David of Checotah, Oklahoma; eleven grandchildren; Mike, Craig, Mary, Don, Cathy, Ruth, Ken, Eric, Robbie, Rachel and Ryan; fifteen great?grandchildren Wendi, Chrissy, Johnny, Erin, Vanessa, Jerod, Donnie, Shane, Jessica, Kelly, Jeannie, Amber, Kelsey, Kassidy and Bryce and many other family members and friends who were very special to her. Mrs. Hope was preceded in death by her parents, her husband of fifty-one years, Fred A. Hope on October 24, 1985; one daughter, Irene Mae Hope, born May 30, 1938 and died October 16, 1938; one brother, Melvin Freeman, one sister, Lola Milhoan; one great grandson, Josh Riddle born August 8, 1979 and died May 31, 1999; two half-brothers, Elgin Shepherd and Otto Shepherd and one half-sister, Mabel Hann. Graveside services and interment were under the direction of Stumpff Funeral Home, Barnsdall.

DAVID LEE TUCKER
July 25, 2000 - David Lee Tucker 46, of Bartlesville, Oklahoma, died at 8:00 a.m., Friday, July 21, at St. John’s Medical Center in Tulsa. Services were held Tuesday, July 25, 2000 at The First Church of the Nazarene with Dr. Randy Schuneman officiating. Final committal rites were accorded Mr. Tucker in the Ethel Reese Cemetery in Barnsdall, Oklahoma with arrangements under the direction of Walker-Brown Funeral Home of Bartlesville. David was born July 24, 1953 in Pawhuska, Oklahoma to Joe and Ramona (Napier) Tucker. He was a Truck driver for OTRX out of Olathe, Kansas. David is survived by his parents; Joe and Ramona Tucker of Bartlesville, one brother and sister-in-law; Ron and Carol Tucker of Barnsdall, one sister & brother-in-law; Pat & Bill Sanders of Woodward, Oklahoma, nieces & nephews; Scott and Shelby Tucker of Barnsdall, Leslie & Daniel Sanders of Woodward and his former wife Vicki Frisinger of Charleston, West Virginia. He was preceded in death by one brother, Billy Joe Tucker. David was a strong believer in organ donation and his family carried out his wishes.

THEODORE "TED" WALKER VASSAR
July 14, 2000 - Theodore "Ted" Walker Vassar, Ponca City, Oklahoma resident, died unexpectedly Wednesday, July 12, 2000 at St. Joseph Regional Medical Centeri Ponca City. He was 61. The funeral service will be held at 10:00 AM, Monday, July 17, 2000 at the Trout Funeral Home Chapel in Ponca City, with The Reverend Dr. Michael Kear, Pastor, Friendship Baptist Church officiating. Burial will follow at Odd Fellows Cemetery in Ponca City. Ted was born on September 2, 1938 in Pawhuska, Oklahoma to Benjamin Franklin Vassar and Opal I. Campbell. He was raised in Pawhuska, where he attended schools. Ted joined the United States Navy in 1955 following his graduation from Pawhuska High School and returned to Pawhuska after his service. Ted moved to Wisconsin in 1962 and worked as a pipeliner in the oil fields. He married Cheri Jennejahn in Waukesha, Wisconsin on September 13, 1964. In 1978 the couple moved to Ponca City where Ted worked in the Alky Unit at the Conoco Refinery. He retired in 1994. Ted enjoyed woodworking, yard work, spending time with his family and friends, and enjoyed a good cigar and a cold beer. He is survived by: his wife Cheri of the home; his mother Opal Bowers of Ponca City; one daughter, Valerie Snethen and her husband Vernon of Enid, Oklahoma; three sons, Daniel Vassar and his wife Susan of Laverne, California, Matthew F. Vassar and his wife Tammy of Ponca City, and Lee Vassar of Ponca City; thirteen grandchildren, Alexandria Barnett, Holley Barnett, Victoria Barnett, Tyler Snethen, Christopher Vassar, Zachariah Vassar, Nicholas \/assar, Jordan Vassar, Tanya Vassar, Theodore Vassar, Mikelle Vassar, Gabrielle Vassar, and Tanner Vassar; four sisters, Deloris Sharpe of Memphis, Tennessee, Loretta Garrison of Stillwater, Natalie Epperson of Ponca City, Kathleen Rowe of Ponca City; two brothers, Bill Hargraves of Ponca City and Bob Hargraves of Ponca City; several nieces, nephews, aunts, and uncles. Ted was preceded in death by his father and one grandchild, Hannah Olivia Vassar. Casket bearers will be, Kurt Crowder, Keenan Pappan, Charlie Edwards, Gary Jernigan, Chuck Smith and Nate Jacobs. Honorary casket bearers will be Christopher Vassar, Theodore Vassar, Zachariah Vassar, Nicholas Vassar, Tanner Vassar, Tyler Snethen, Paul Besse, Walter Evans, Dan Hicks, Gene Henderson, Pat Rettberg and Darryl Barnett. The family will receive friends at their home at 3204 S. Ranch Drive, Ponca City.

LOLA ELNORA EICHER
July 11, 2000 – Lola Elnora Eicher, 63, passed away Monday, July 10, 2000 in Jane Phillips Memorial Medical Center. She was born August 6, 1936 in Haskell, Oklahoma, to Marlon and Bertha Garrison. Lola is survived by two daughters, Susie Owens of Cleveland, Oklahoma and Tina and her husband, Ted Rogers of Oglesby, Oklahoma; two sons and their wives, Russell and Debra Hurd of Owasso, Oklahoma, and Gary and Teri Hurd of Dewey, Oklahoma; three sisters, Dee Collins, Stella and husband, Sherald Dilley, and Pat and husband, Bill Hurd all of Wynona, Oklahoma; one brother, Earl Garrison of Wynona and numerous other relatives and friends. Lola was preceded in death by her parents and seven brothers. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, July 12, at the Antioch Christian Fellowship in Wynona, Oklahoma, with pastor Ray Collins officiating. Interment will follow in A.J. Powell Cemetery, Hominy under the direction of Powell Funeral Home.

VIRGINIA INGERSOLL
July 11, 2000 – Graveside services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, July 12, for longtime resident of Pawhuska, Oklahoma, Virginia Ingersoll, 85, who died July 9, in The Pawhuska Nursing Home. Virginia was born August 7, 1914 in Yonkers, Oklahoma, the daughter of Daniel H. and Martha Cordelia (Holland) Hatfield. A member of The First Baptist Church, Virginia owned and operated Virginia’s Beauty Shop for many years until failing health forced her to retire. Survivors are a son, Rick Ingersoll of Skiatook, Oklahoma and two sisters, Cornelia Kafer of Pawhuska and Juanita Barrietta of Tulsa; two grandchildren, five great grandchildren, numerous other relatives and friends. Services are under the direction of Johnson Funeral Directors.

VIRGINIA IRENE HIGH
July 11, 2000 – Virginia Irene High, 36, passed away July 9, 2000 in Pawhuska, Oklahoma. She was born June 24, 1964 in Hominy, Oklahoma, the daughter of Roger and Sophia (Maker) High and attended Hominy Schools and Tri-County Tech in Bartlesville, Oklahoma, moving to Pawhuska in 1998. An Osage Indian, she was a member of The Native American Church and The Osage Indian Baptist Church. Surviving are: two brothers, Randolph Lookout and Ira Lookout, both of Pawhuska; five sisters, Sophia Lookout, Libby Lookout, Deda Bighorse and Debra High all of Pawhuska and Mildred High of Hominy and numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Virginia was preceded in death by a daughter, Virginia Louise High, her parents and a sister, Henrietta Lookout. She will lie in state at the Wakon Iron Community Building in Indian Camp, Pawhuska where services will be held at 9:00 a.m., Wednesday. Burial will be in The A.J. Powell Cemetery, Hominy under the direction of Johnson Funeral Directors.

JAMES LEONARD TRAMMEL
July 11, 2000 – James Leonard Trammel, 80, longtime resident of Osage County, Oklahoma, passed away July 7, 2000 in The Jane Phillips Medical Center in Bartlesville, Oklahoma, following a brief illness. Mr. Trammel was born February 7, 1920 near Peggs, Oklahoma, the son of James Leonard and Iva (Pannel) Trammel and moved with his family in 1928 to The Osage Hills State Park and Okesa, Oklahoma area where they have remained. Leonard was a retired farmer and oil field worker. Mr. Trammel married Louise C. Warner October 15, 1941 in Bartlesville. He was a veteran of World War II, serving in The U.S. Army. He received two Purple Hearts and other citations. Survivors in addition to his wife, Louise of the home are four sons, Edward H. Trammel and Charles Trammel both of Okesa and James Trammel and Garry Trammel both of Bartlesville; a brother, Jessie Trammel of Bartlesville; a sister, Ethel Pearson of Okesa; nine grandchildren, fifteen great grandchildren, two great great grandchildren and numerous other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Anna Christian Trammel, his parents, three sisters and six brothers. Graveside services were held Tuesday, July 11, in The Pawhuska Cemetery with The Reverend Tim Prater officiating. Military Rites were presented by The American Legion Post and The Veterans of Foreign Wars. Johnson Funeral Directors were in charge of arrangements.

BETTY ANN SMITH
July 7, 2000 - Betty Ann Smith, 61, longtime Pawhuska, Oklahoma resident, passed away July 4, in The Pawhuska Hospital following a prolonged illness. Born May 18, 1939 in Durant, Oklahoma, the daughter of Guy T. and Betty Ruth (Cardin) Choate, Betty graduated from Durant High School. She and L. C. Smith were married on October 7, 1957 In Durant and moved lo Pawhuska shortly after their marriage. The Smiths owned and operated a Montgomery-Ward Retail Store in Pawhuska for a number of years and have owned and operated Smiths Total Service Station for many years. Betty was retired from the Pawhuska School System and was active In The Pawhuska Hospital Auxiliary. Her favorite hobbies were baking bread and going to garage sales with Jo Thornton. Memorial may be sent to The Pawhuska Hospital Auxiliary and The American Society Relay For Life in Pawhuska. Surviving are; Husband: L.. C. Smith of the home, two sons, Bill Smith of Pawhuska and Mike Smith of Fairfax, Oklahoma; A daughter, and son-in-law, Lee Ann and Mike Embry of Fort Worth, Texas; a brother and sister-in-law, Tommy Dan and Helen Choate of Ardmore, Oklahoma; two grandsons, Tyler Guy Smith and Lee Charles Smith; two granddaughters, Jessica Smith and Blair Kathryn Embry and numerous other relatives and friends. Betty was preceded in death by her parents and a brother, Charles T. Choate. Graveside services were held Friday, July 7, at 2:00 p.m., in the Pawhuska Cemetery with The Reverend Ronald Eldridge officiating under the direction of Johnson Funeral Directors.

CAROLYN JENNIE LYNN
July 7, 2000 – Carolyn Jennie Lynn, 65, was born December 23, 1934 In Pawhuska, Oklahoma, the daughter of Denver L. and Genevieve (Cummings) Curry and died July 3, 2000 in her rural Pawhuska home. She attended Pawhuska schools, graduating from Pawhuska High School in 1952. She studied Dance under Mrs. Evelyn Whitsitt and later gave lessons in Pawhuska and Shidler, Oklahoma. Some of her early hobbies were bowling, duck hunting and trout fishing. Jennie was married to J. Roger Lynn and the couple had five sons. She was a member of the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Pawhuska where Funeral Mass was celebrated Friday, July 7. Interment followed in the Pawhuska City Cemetery. Survivors are four sons, John Patrick Lynn and Joseph Roger Lynn of Norman, Oklahoma and William Roger Lynn and Michael Kelly Lynn of Pawhuska; two sisters, Joann Wells of Laguna Niguel, California and Cecelia (Sue) Holden of Talala, Oklahoma; ten grandchildren and seven nieces and nephews. Jennie was preceded in death by both parents, her brother, Denver and her son, Stephen Allen Lynn. She will be extremely missed as a compassionate mother, sister and grandmother. Johnson Funeral Directors were in charge of arrangements.
